nba player and your screen ekpe udoh is the fun of her book club. he's played for the warriors the clippers the jazz most recently with the beijing royal fighters. mr. sub ekpe udoh how did you start your book club? >> of afghan and thank you again for having me. the book club started when i was in milwaukee. there was a media relations guy and we wanted a unique way to interact with fans. i am a book reader that became a hobby of mine would be cool to open up a book club. >> host: looking at the bookshelf into it looks like you have become a book reader. what made that change?

>> they are was a couple of things. in college my best friends to this day would always send me a articles of different things like finance and does this and i would always ask him about it we would talk about it. i had a wild night and the next morning my bible wasig so i just started reading the bible and it just clicked. >> host: in an article when you are with the utah jazz this is what most players have headphones on inaz music playing to get into the spirit of the game you have a book opened. >> yeah.

i would usually try to bring a book with me toal the game or if i'm going somewhere by myself it just helps me clear my mind of what's about to take ways in the game. i r. denote the game plan so it just helps to get those butterflies away before the game. >> host: what kind of looks you gravitate towards? >> guest: me personally i am historical. i loved to read about the history of the world and the book club is mostly thrillers and a lot of memoirs. >> host: give us an example. >> guest: we did barack obama, the promised land and that was a great memorial." we didat have the witch was another favorite look of all

times to the book club enjoyed those two reads. >> host: this is a quote, people don't realize how will whole life can change buy one book. is that something that is appealed to you over the years? >> i'm always trying to get players to read. i try to be that role model and i love to see athletes just reading and have a book. that quote speaks her to who i am continued to grow through. >> does anybody participate in your book club? >> guest: of course, of course. ' we started i would send out an assignment for a quick buck but now i send one out once every upper month. it's like a massive list of once

you sign up you get the e-mails reach e book. a couple of years ago i started a series called -- and then we'd have a conversation. at that time i was in salt lake city but now in our thing is on zoom. >> host: would authors participate in the author talks? would they be glad to participate? >> guest: yes, sir. recently i had one with marvin peterson and his memoir. >> host:t: what is that book about? >> guest: is about his life. i guess about his upbringing and his decisions and he had to do a stint in prison.

and that made an impact outside of society. he is just and building on that. it's a wonderful book and a wonderful read. >> host: that is a book that's booktv is also covered and i won't can watch it on line at booktv.org.tv mr. ekpe udoh how do you conduct your book club? meme >> guest: we are on twitter. follow the #'s and we usually meet every thursday at 8:00 p.m. eastern and we will go for an hour or an hour and a half dependingk on the book in theco conversation. >> host: was the easiest way for people to find thatt schedule? >> guest: the easiest way i think is to follow me on twitter

@ekpe udoh and pay attention to my tweets. i do a lot of free tweeting but at some point in time i put out the schedule. >> host: is their book do you go back to every couple of years and reread? >> guest: the alchemist is one of them -- is another one. i think that's been it. i will read power of the moment. >> host: mr. udoh growth in oklahoma and played for baylor in the university michigan and went on to the nba and worldwide basketball. it's basketball is big in china that is the united states? >> guest: i think it's probably bigger. they really enjoy basketball but i have to say they won the

national championship this year. last week i went there to support my former teammates and to check-in. >> host: were you able to get your teammates to read books as well with you? >> guest: not necessarily with me but some would start asking me for book recommendations. once i get them there it's up to them. >> host: how many books a year do you read? >> guest: the book club is 15 and me personally depending on my mood i had 35 to 40. if i'm overseas i'm knocking out more books. >> host: are you b able to access physical books are the read them on line?
