he's played in the past for the box, the warriors, clippers, the jazz and most recently with beijing royal fighters. how did you start your boo club?lu >> good afternoon. thank you for having me. bookclub started while in milwaukee. i didn't grow up a book reader and it became a hobby of mine in the behoove me to open up a book club. >> looking at the bookshop behind you, it looks like you have become a book reader. what made that change? >> i think it was couple of things. in college, my best friend would

always send me articles on different things like finance, business investing opportunities and then i would ask him to paraphrase army and we would talk about it. then i think i was in miami and i had a wild night and next morning my bible was next to me and i was feeling guilty from the previous night so i started reading the bible and it started and it just clicked and i haven't looked back since then. >> so in an article when you are with the utah jazz, while most players have headphones on and have music playing to get into the spirit of the game, you have a book open. >> yes. i would usually try t to bring a book with me on in public going by myself.

it just helps me clear my mind of what's about to take place in the game. i already know the game plan and get those butterflies right before the game. >> what kind of book do you gravitate toward? >> me personally, i am a historical, i love to read about the history of the world. the book club, mostly thrillers and lately a lot of memoirs. >> give us an example of who. >> barack obama the promised land and that came with a couple of stories. that was a great memoir. we did heavy which was another one of my favorite of all times. i really enjoyed those. >> this is a quote, people don't

realize how our whole life can be changed by one book. malcolm x book. is that something that appealed to you over the years? >> one 100%. i was always trying to get my friend, just anybody. i try to read, having a book. one thing i have been able, i think that speaks perfectly to who malcolm x was and who i continue to grow into. >> can anybody specific in your book a club? >> of course, that started out with the sign for every book but now maybe once every other month like a master list. once you sign up you get an e-mail for each list and if we

have an event. a couple of years ago i started a series where we would read a book and i would invite the author to have conversations but this time i was in salt lake city. >> authors participate in your talk? they right to participate? >> yes. i think while i was in utah and recently i had one with robin peterson with his memoir. >> what is that book about? >> it's about his life. about upbringing and decisions he is imprisoned but was able to make an impact outside of

society and he has been building fund that it's a wonderful read. >> the reader. you conduct your book club? >> we are all on twitter. follow me and pay attention to the schedule and all of the #. it's usually every thursday 8:00 p.m. eastern we'll go for like an hour to an hour and a half depending on the book and the conversation. >> what's the easiest way for people to find that schedule? >> easiest would be to follow me on twitter and just pay attention to my tweets. i do a lot of retreating

sometime i tweet the schedule. >> is s there a book you go back to every couple of years to. reporter: ? >> the autobiography of malcolm x. i think i spent it. i'll read the power of -- now. >> you grew up in oklahoma, played for baylor and university of michigan and went on to the nba and worldwide, is basketball in china as it is here in the states? >> first i had to say shot out for the championship this year. >> your former teams are in thes playoffs. >> yes, a lot of them.

i just check in with former teammates. >> were you able to get your teammates to read books as well with you? >> not necessarily with me and asking me for recommendations and that's where it starts. >> how many books a year do you read? >> club is 15, me personally depending on g my mood, another0 or 35 to 40. if i'm overseas, i knocked out close to 50 books. >> are you able to access physical books or do you read online? >> all of the above.li some i just do audiobooks but not if i can go to stores and
