ms. campbell, remind viewers what the coalition is, how long you've been around and how your group responded. >> black civic participation has been around since 1976, we are the right organization focusing on voter empowerment, women's leadership, with focus on social justice issues, policy, funded by foundations and unions and individuals, corporations. >> right after this segment you are heading out to speak out a rally taking place today, who is a rally for and what are you going to say at the rally? partner with the national women's lawt: center and i think 30 or 40 other organizations and today is dark in itself, celebrating the fact that we had the first black woman who's
2:55 pm
going to not just be nominating but also to continue to advocate for her to have a fair hearing. as black women and women of color we tend to hire physician, we have a harder time, a lot of antimes barely in the confirmatn process. >> you've been through this process times before, confirmed of the circuit court on a bipartisan vote little. over nie months ago, your expectation that this will be any different than that one? >> based on what happened when his administration announced was going to have this as his campaign promise, the next time he had the opportunity to appoint an african-american black woman to lead his nominee, there was negative backlash and even doing that and the names

floating not from his mouth but the media, people being attacked, all kinds of things so that in itself the last week once the president was announced we need to make sure as black women in leadership we are set to rally around for them have a fair process. we were on capitol hill last week, we had policy dates we were here last week and back again this week. >> take your phone calls and questions, 2,027,488,000. ray hawkins 2,027,488,001. independent 2,027,488,002. about 22 minutes, all in, same questions we asked in the last
2:57 pm
segment, what role should will you think judge jackson's race and gender play over the next four days here on capitol hill? >> as a w woman and a black wom, i have things when i walked in the door, what it represents is lived experience in this nation, issued of diversity and inclusion an opportunity, what's happening here is we've always had exceptionally qualified black women and women of color but we've not seen in the highest court of the land not represented on the highest court so this is where one of my friends said opportunity meets experience that's what she walked in the door with. haven't been black and a woman, i can relate to that how
2:58 pm
challenging it is to have opportunities of these experience yet to have a handful of women to fit on the court. only two out of 233 years but the country is diverse so i think what she will bring is the lived experience and also being black and a woman and it's a plus. >> what about the experience and background and being a public defender? >> i think that is unique because you don't see that in that space, her being able to have that experience and speaking about her experiences but more important, she understands the rule of law and the constitution and she would bring back where she walks in the door and wants to go through the confirmation process and i'm cautiously optimistic but
2:59 pm
fairness rules the day, she will be confirmed and hopefully by a majority of the senate and maybe pie in the sky to some but sometimes good things can happen in bipartisanship. >> she was confirmed to the court of appeals position nine months ago five bipartisan vote, 53 -- 44, she's 51 years old, undergraduate law degree from harvard and she would be former federal public defender to serve on the supreme court. elizabeth calling from maryland, independent. you are up first. >> i'm just wondering, what you think the republican senators on the judiciary committee are going to do? you think they will have a hard time with the republicans are not? >> you can watch the rest of this segment on the c-span now
