"The single dumbest phrase in military history is 'our diversity is our strength.' I think our strength is our unity. Our strength is our shared purpose, regardless of our background regardless of our gender, regardless of our race. In this department, we will treat everyone equally," said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on the elimination of DEI initiatives at the Pentagon. The secretary delivered remarks on his vision for the military before Defense Department personnel at the Pentagon. He spoke on the three pillars of his goals for the military, which were restoring the warrior ethos, rebuilding the military, and reestablishing deterrence. On deterrence he said, "it starts at our own southern border border security is national security," and that 100% operational control of the border was a priority.
