democracy. >> welcome back we are joined by armstrong williams a columnist tv talkshow host and entrepreneur, welcome to the program. >> good morning. >> you been largely supportive of president trump's actions this first month in office, tell me why and why you think trump 2.0 as it's being called is different from the first. >> is a broadcasting in a media owner it is not about being supportive of the president or not i think me as a responsibility to be as a referee until the facts about what any administration is true whether biden harris or trump or vance and i'm reading through my own notes. i think if we look atk the legl border crossings them anything about the fact on the border you have less than 260 people
1:58 pm
cosseted a versus 11001 biden harris ran the white house you could not ignore the progress of the american people. that's one of the things that the president promised he would deal with when he was running for president.ed i happen and when you talk about doge he and elon musk campaign together and they made it clear they would reduce the waste and fraud in government they want to make sure that the taxpayers money works better for them obviously there's a lot of chaos in the process and people being terminated that probably should not be terminated, there is some harm that is being done by an chaos particularly at the speed that president trump is moving obviously you're going to have to have corrective courses and this is why it's necessary that congress unlike the last congress conceded so much of the responsibility to the white house to do their job this is why we have a check and balance system in place by the courts in the congress to make sure you
1:59 pm
balance that with the president does because the president cannot shut down a federal agency that is funded by congress that's congress' role in a think congress. >> it has been shut down in those programs have been stop even the sign has been taken on. >> that is true the u.s. aid is so unique in its own way and we understand that but there is a lot of waste fraud and abuse in usaid and other government agencies. the conversation that we should have and we should criticize the president constructively, that's what a democracy is but if you look at the whistleblowers when they talk about waste and checks that are being written because they have been written this way for so long you cannot even question whether they're going to terrorist organization or people that are living
2:00 pm
$5 billion might not seemed like a lot when you get thehe budgetf the united states government but it's a start i'll take my own example you live. somebody in the media and covered the action agencies around the country and you have people that go to the agencies to get that played and make sure they're able to have the water turned on they cannot pay their rent on time and sometimes with the agencies will do is pay them three affirmative answer they say people come back at the same time and a lot of these goes on is betterme management and we lt these agencies to a lot of good a lot of people like the elderly but sometimes people need because the systems have become so corrupted ms. manners at the people that really need it don't get it so the fact that the president and elon musk is pursuing the government efficiency . . . accountability and responsibility is a good thing. and as a ceo of a business, i understand.
2:01 pm
we can talk about have a good idea when you there's nothing like human interaction the e government particularly here in washington dc on the government shutdown it affects tourism it affects the economy it affects everything, yes there might be people who may need to work from home but so many people need to be back at work. >> as you said, you are a businessman and you have cautioned elon musk not to approach the federal government as he would in downsizing one of his businesses. what you see is a fundamental difference there as how you elon musk should approach the good objective of reducing fraud in the federal government?
2:02 pm
>> it was in the baltimore sun on sunday b while you might have noble intentions you cannot run a private business the way you run the federal government government musk as w he may be asked to work with congress he has to work with people within the agencies that you have to trust to a certain extent, there are people willing to tell you, you can't shut down agencies and not realize the harm you can do in the long run because it becomes the narrative you cannot become a dictator when it comes to the government because you will lose. as well intended as he may be he will fail in the process. because what he's doing is so important he should respect the different processes that are in place that can better help them accomplish the goals he's trying to achieve.
2:03 pm
>> if you would like to join our conversation with armstrong williams you can do so start calling you now. this is on the front page of the paper for today it says "christian leaders grapple with new trump policies targeting "anti-christian bias, eradication of the eaei program provoke reactions from marilyn's clergy" explain that article. >> pastor al hathaway a prominent pastor in baltimore is quoted throughout the article he talks about the old-school bible in biblical understanding. when donald trump skated theft with an attempted assassin bullet where it grazed his ear you can see the blood even he said that god saved him and it
2:04 pm
was an act of god. many christians will see that as god had a greater purpose for donald trump. so therefore, donald trump as a president about destiny and destined for donald trump to win but you look at donald trump's character people say that what donald trump does in his personal life is not necessarily what christians adhere to. but they also point to david and adulteress, he betrayed his wife, god was able to use him for a greater good. >> he also repented. >> i'm not saying the president has not t repented i don't know what he does in his private life but we do know when you pick about donald trump's extraordinary journey, the indictments, lawsuits, people given up on him, , the fact tha he can come back surviving an
2:05 pm
assassin's bullet and become president again for christians that has a very spiritual strong foundation for them they think there's a greater good in donald trump and this is why they believe donald trump might be the possibility that donald trump could usher in a golden age but i would say you have to be cautious with that because the bottom line is, donald trump is human sometimes you don't want to become a ãfor the president everything he does he support it and you turn a blind eye to the things that you could caution on him, you don't want to be an enabler. he's not sending out crazy tweets it's not attacking people the way he has attacked, you see a more mature laid-back and more measured president i say tthat i do think that dona trump experience as a businessman has to have some compassion about his politics and the bible tells you don't allow your good to be evil spoken of so he has to be very measured i like the fact that he is getting along very well with elon musk and i like the fact that he's working very well with congress, the people
2:06 pm
that seem to be upset seem to be the democratic legislators, members of congress and some of the articles you see in the media but for the most part americans 55 to 65 percent are willing to give donald trump a chance to see if his policies will work in the long run. the american people believe these are the promises made the promises kept let's give him a chance i just don't know how long the honeymoon will last. >> let me ask about ddi, diversity equity inclusion efforts, are you as supportive of president trump efforts to essentially take that out of government completely? >> i think that's what he promised to do. >> that is nghappening, they ar all closing. >> it's one thing to talk about the equality.
2:07 pm
but equity is a different hing. i don't want anyone to give me an e advantage because of what they perceive my race is. i want to go back to the dream of doctors martin luther king that a man is judged not by the color of their skin but the contact of their character. let me also cautioned that racism bigotry is not dead. people still harbor that in their hearts. people are not always do what's in the best interest of people because sometimes they cannot let go of the baggage of their ancestry but the government needs to be ããi don't like filling boout a form someone asked me what my race as i don't want somebody to proceed just because some kid got into college scholarship they got there because of their race. i think it incheapens those who fight hard work hard parents make sacrifice those that study to be the best and brightest not only in the classroom but wherever they are i think that we live in a country today we should be judged not by the
2:08 pm
color of our skin not by our sexual preference but by the content of our character and work ethic and sacrifice and discipline.. >> and you think that's gonna happen during the next four years, he. >> that's a process. nothing is happening overnight. >> you are optimistic? >> i am cautiously optimistic. i don't have an issue with what the president is doing because i find it shocking that some of these campaigns made all these promises are actually keeping them. the problem is democrats did not take him seriously for the speed he's working as in his late 70s his focus is organization the way his team has been in place putting these executive orders together this is well planned out did not happen overnight. donald trump is prepared.
2:09 pm
whether congress is prepared or not that's a different question. >> i want to show you a clip of hakeem jeffries house democratic leader talking about programs. >> it's about economic opportunity for everyone. we support merit for everyone. based on what you know not who you know the problem it seems to be unfolding is that there are some in this country who want an america of the billionaires by the billionaires and for the billing errors. not for working-class americans, middle-class americans are everyday americans, a country of the billionaires by the billionaires and for the billing errors. diversity equity inclusion are about economic opportunity for
2:10 pm
everyone. even if you're not wealthy well off for well-connected. these are values that everybody in this country should embrace. >> what do you think of. >> i was with him until he got to billionaires. when you talk about the dei programs somebody watching us today you ask how the average lower income person benefits from these rsprograms, how much the government really change their lives for the biting harassers in the white house trump pence in the white house than other people that were poor when biting harassers in the white house therefore now. wendy stock about contracts that go to gufriends and colleagues talk about congress
2:11 pm
that rules that we have to abide by but you cannot have conflict of interest they are able to indulge in stocks and companies that come before the legislative body these guys, it wasn't until recent the civil rights laws that he alludes to apply to congress i don't want to call him a hypocrite but this is political grandstanding now. until they learn the lessons to try to support donald trump where he is to try to improve gei where they don't favor some illogical things like race agenda, where it works for people because they're qualified in the best at what to realize ey got this messaging they had was profoundly defeated. they need to face reality they lost and they need to find a new message that resonates with the american people because until they do so they will continue to lose and lose again the democratic party has been
2:12 pm
decimated because e they lost trust they oused to be the par of the working class of america and middle-class america that democrat that voted for donald trump even those in michigan who consider themselves to be muslim and how in the world could you support donald trump in his policies they are voting for family values not just about whether the economy is about what is gender iaffirmin you talking about drag queens teaching children in the classroom parents cannot have a say so in if their children are going through some kind of sexual evolution, the bottom line americans still care about traditional values. >> you ready to talk to callers? >> yes. >> homer is a republican in
2:13 pm
florence massachusetts. >> amen and hallelujah to everything he said. you are highly intelligent. and wondering why was okay for joe biden to fire americans federal workers for not getting a vaccine and people in the military but not it's not now it's not okay for trump. i irnoticed bill clinton had 400,000 federal employees is not going to happen under trump, it's not even close. i don't know why everybody's complaining.there's 303 389 ã ãyou can continue watching this on our website at c-span.org. >> we are encouraged with how that's going we owe that to our colleagues who have been willing to step up and very committed to getting across the finish line despite a lot of democrat resistance. try to make it hard but as we continue to line through the process we have been successful in getting 18 done tomorrow we
2:14 pm
will do cash patel we have a couple more we will tee up for next week. with regard to legislation i think as you all know senator graham and the budget committee last week reported out a bunch a budget resolution. that tease up an opportunity for us to move out across the floor. as you all know that unlocks budget reconciliation which will follow from it and this particular budget resolution addresses the presidents priority, top priority, securing the border. rebuilding military and parading energy dominance for the country. it's focused on those three things folks on the border on national security and energy. the house is working on a different budget resolution. we certainly wish them all the success in moving it we will work closely with them more power to them but they are trying to get the tax piece of
2:15 pm
this done and done quickly and obviously we all want to see that president tax priorities addressed which is making not only tax 2017 tax extending but making them permanent. that is certainly the priority for most if not all of the republican senators here in the congress. we will continue to work together in a way that ultimately gets us across the finish line and helps put the president's agenda in place. those priorities are very clear as outlined our budget resolution helping with what the house is doing i think we are on a good track to achieve success. if we achieved success it's can be a good thing not only for the president but for this country. >> are you defying the president was going on with your own budget
