spacecraft ten minutes from a simulated liftoff when a flash fire hit at 6:31 tonight eastern standard time. they were in their space suits, buttoned up inside the craft when the fire hit. there was a flash and that was it according to a nasa spokesperson watching just a few hundred yards from the launch pad. president johnson tonight mourned the death of the three astronauts. he said that they gave their lives in service to the nation. mike wallace at the cbs newsroom in new york. >> this has been a cbs news special report. i'm a white male and i am prejudice. the reason is, is something that wasn't taught but it's kind of something that i learned. i don't like to be forced to like people. i like to be led to like people through example.
