prize winner. seventh and ninth grades sisters year's grandthis prize winners of our studentcam documentary competition. they explain refugees and immigration policy. >> a refugee is defined as someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war or violence, and cannot return safely. with so many people fleeing the country's, desperate and without a home, politicians and institutes are arguing over one argued question -- urgent question, should the united states let our refugees into the country? asked middle and high school students to produce documentaries telling us what is the most urgent issue for the new president and congress to address in 2017? students competed for the chance to win one of 150 prizes,

totaling $100,000 in prize money. we received almost 3000 entries from 46 states, plus the district of columbia, england, germany, singapore and taiwan. and now we are happy to announce our first place winner. in the middle school category, the first prize winners are eighth-graders molly doherty, camden lewis, and eva decker from west scranton intermediate school in scranton, pennsylvania for the documentary "u.s. gun violence, a complicated puzzle." for the high school youth category, matthew gannon from gonzaga college high school in washington, d.c. for his documentary entitled "invisible," which deals with homelessness. he also won this year's fanfare contest. he will receive an additional $500. in the high school central category our winner is 12 greater jerrod clark from royal oaks high school in royal oaks, michigan for his feast "enough is enough: dealing with pharmaceutical pricing."
