the troops are hold in a trench. every night they have a post set up, maybe 200 or 300 feet from the main body in the trench. every night they put two men out there just to listen and warn us if there is a sneak attack. >> of course they were doing the same thing. on this particular night, henry johnson, who was one of heroesater theories -- when the germans attacked them listen post. approximately 24 germans attacked. almostslugged immediately and johnson fought them off. around, he he swung do for it -- he defeated the 24

germans. ,e had 21 wounds in his body but he refused to die. we finally got out there in the morning and drag their bodies back. they were not dead and both lived. the side effect, today they are both gone. i could say almost anything because most all of them are gone. i am 75 years old and i was only's evan tien then. amre are not many -- and i -- i was only 17 then. there are not many guys who can contradict what i tell you. ch monday at 8:00 and 11:00 eastern here on american history tv.
