watch this weekend on the cspan networks. monday on landmark cases. tinker v. des moines independent school district. a case b about student free speech. in 1965, five students from des moines, iowa wore black arm bands to school to protest the vietnam war, violating local school policies. the students challenged the school board's free speech restrictions and the resulting supreme court decision established the students keep their first amendment rights on school grounds. our guests are mary beth tinker, one of the five students who challenged the school district. she was 13 at the time. after two decades as a nurse, she began working as a free speech advocate for students touring at schools and youth centers and eric jaffe, a fall
