during the korean war, it was blowing up supply chains. >> the destroyers are smaller ships that would defend larger ships and that would travel in a fleet around the aircraft carriers in the battleships. defendtheir jobs is to the aircraft carriers and keep the enemy away we forget sometimes about the last where we had spacecrafts splashing down in the oceans. a fleet would be in the area to pick up the afternoon. -- astronaut. normally a destroyer would come along the capsule and pick up the space capsule. part of theas

gemini recovery mission in the early 60's. it never got a chance to pick up a gemini capsule because it was sent to vietnam to fire on begun liners they called it -- on iners.-- the gun l this is where we have the 52 gun mount. this is a five inch, 38 gun mount, which is i-5 inch diameter -- a five inch damon or projectile that weighs about 56 pounds -- diameter projectile that weighs about 56 pounds. they can shoot at airplanes. and theyshoot at ships can shoot a distance of over 10 miles. they could sit off the coast of korea and vietnam and shoot at targets on land. the ship was top gun in vietnam.

it is the anti-submarine rockets. this is the rocket launcher right here. eight compartments holding rockets. it would launch rockets that carried torpedoes or death yardss off 1000 to 10,000 and could drop those weapons in the ocean to destroy enemy submarines. now we are going to proceed through the magazine, where they stored the rockets and torpedoes. first we have big racks for the rockets. back here we have submarines. these are the mark 44 torpedoes. these are the homing torpedoes that would home in on the sound of a submarine and chase after it. >> you had room for maybe 15 if they stack up on top. we have 11. another one here and three more on top.
