and 50's this would have been the center of the african-american business district known as paradise valley. district grewment as african-americans were migrating from the south to the north. we called it the great migration. thousands of african-americans are leaving the south, leaving the conditions of jim crow, leaving the conditions of in places like the ford motor company. because of property discrimination, they can't own property everywhere, but there are certain sections they can. from the 1920's through the 19 30's there are three black-owned businesses in this area or very close.

all the things african-americans herewill take place right in paradise valley. it will end up being destroyed after the 1956 interstate highway act. they will fund the building of freeway throughout the country. political leadership shows the footage down the main street. eminente the land by domain. we lose the district after the interstate highway by 1956. residents,-american many of the first wave when they lose their land are going to have to find places. they end up in an area where

jewish residents -- jewish migrants are more likely to rent and sell places to african-americans than any other ethnic group. that westside neighborhood, which is going to be a neighborhood when the 67 uprising would occur. we lose that when we lose paradise valley. it was called urban renewal. itican-americans called negro remvoval. week notice got two to be kicked out, they got an infection notice. there is a wealth inequality between african americans and detroit. now we've lost everything and
