12:28 pm
one day vote with a turnout of more than 350,000 votes this friday. this story is important for one on for several reasons. first, democrats generally benefit from high turnout. secondly, there have been long lines in democratic areas. the third point, democrats cast 52% of early ballots, according to data. it also asks the question, are the polls wrong again? the general election clearly points to a narrow lead. there's been five poll since the start of december. walker's not live in any of them, and in this poll for emerson college, released in december, they were up two percentage points. it goes on from there, and could we will ask you and get your thoughts on this election.
12:29 pm
the incumbent senator from georgia, at 202748 8001 for republicans. and 204 7000. if you are a georgia resident and want to call and give your thoughts this morning, 202748 8000. we will talk about the impact of the race, especially how it affects the senate. joining us, michael chanel is with us. thank you for giving us your time this weekend. >> thank you so much for having me. >> it doesn't deter the power, but what is the senate watching for today? >> the implications of today's senate race is really important with how you can legislate the senate. of course, if raphael warnock does wind today, that will give me 51 to 49 seat majority.
12:30 pm
that is significant implications. that will no longer be split evenly between democrats and republicans, but if warnock wins, he will have a majority on the committee, which will mean the senate no longer has to use that power for the agreement. and schumer and mcconnell had agreed to it last year. that will be significant, because it can really speed up the committee process when it comes to president biden's nominees. especially the judicial nominees on that judiciary committee. it would then be the majority that democrats would be able to -- them winning an extra seat with a majority could mean that the senator cannot derail the legislative information. when we think of kyrsten sinema, who oftentimes would not vote with the entire democratic caucus, and they have thrown off the negotiation plans.
12:31 pm
that has been set between democratic leaders. the extra vote would give democrats some breathing room, so they don't have to negotiate directly with those lawmakers, and they can afford to lose one vote. and also, we can talk about things like -- especially sicknesses, coming out of covid. by having that extra breathing room, and not all democrats will have to be in washington to cast a vote on every bill, to make sure that it passes. but they have that breathing room, just in case there are any unforeseen instances among senators. those are a few reasons why, and as things currently stand, they will have some significant impacts. >> michael chanel, in a general sense, we've seen president biden in -- how much support from the senate itself, are senators giving either? >> they are giving a good
12:32 pm
amount of support. he was elected along side warnock in a previous senate race. he is campaigning with his fellow home senator throughout this race, and also, we saw recently that hustle walker, ted cruz, he was down in georgia campaigning with her shovel walker. we haven't seen too much on the ground for people like president biden and former president trump. but we've seen those senators jumping in for those respective candidates ahead of today's race. >> when it comes to day-to-day business of the senate, if raphael warnock does when, what does it do for things like if you have the filibuster? and getting legislation passed, getting a certain amount of senators to get on board with that legislation. >> well, look. even if they don't win,
12:33 pm
democrats will still have only 51 votes, so that filibuster is still there. it's still going to be a significant challenge for democrats to get enough republicans on board. i guess technically, they could be opposed to taking away the filibuster, but both manchin and sinema have said that they think that is unlikely. the other outcome here, talking about democrats increasing their majority in the senate, is that the house is still in republican hands so that will be increasing the important work for democrats. largely because if democrats are able to send a messaging bill from the senate to the house, it is unlikely because of the filibuster, and because of the lack of votes. it would likely not move in the house, because there is that gop majority there. so while some procedural things will be different, and certainly things like -- will be easier in the senate. there is still that legislation,
12:34 pm
because the house will be in good hands. >> in a general sense, michael chanel, do you know if we will have a result tonight, as far as who gets it? >> i believe that remains to be seen. as you know, voting has taken longer in terms of casting ballots. so i'm not entirely sure if we will have it, but we will wait to see who wins this race. >> you can find her work at the hill.com. here to talk about today's special election, especially when it comes on the working of the senate. thank you so much for your time today. >> thanks for having me. >> again, you can give us a call on the lines if you wish. 202, 7488. that 702 for democrats and independents. again, for you georgia residents, give us a call at 20274 8003.
12:35 pm
and use that number to texas. in florida, starting us off on the republican line, go ahead. >> good morning. i do not understand for the life of me why i'll vita king, who is doctor king's niece, doesn't go down to georgia and talk to her shall walker. she knows you can't be a black man and be religious and be a man of the cloth and be for abortion. you can't do that. i don't understand why she don't go down there and speak up front to her chilocco are. she knows that warnock has got to be a liar. >> you're not a georgia resident, but i assume that from your comments, you're supporting her chilocco in this. >> of course. why would i --
12:36 pm
you can't be black and be a man of the cloth and before abortion, you cannot do that. >> okay, steven in vienna, virginia. democrats, alan extra, pillow. >> last time i called in, maybe two months ago. and i think it's the first time i'm learning this. the senate has a subpoena power. and it's sort of important to warnock, there are subpoena-ing all these people. because they had hillary for months and years and nothing came of the emails. they have got -- but that's not the answer. so the idea is that they're going to have a caucus in the senate. they just get elected, because
12:37 pm
these guys have integrity and know what you're doing in the first place. when trump bailed on georgia, i wonder why when they talk about the trillions of dollars, they're trying to put the data out there, but obama -- it's all on biden, and trump has all that money when the county was going great. >> okay, we'll leave it there. some of you are spitting on facebook page this morning for the comment there. >> david cohen says, forget about party, walker is not qualified to be an office. this is patty jackson, saying why no warnock isn't an honest representation for georgia?
12:38 pm
because he's a pastor who is supposed to preach redemption. but mudslinging walker's past. walker has made his past and soul right with god. there is nothing past that. kareem utley says hustle walker signifies everything wrong with the country today. how is this man legitimate candidate anyone's eyes? and then darren mccarthy turn says, hopefully people of georgia will choose who is a desire to represent the state in the u.s. senate. i've seen several political ads published by warnock and walker, and be quite honest, these as were despicable and should be beneath and claiming to be a man of the cloth. just my two cents. that some of the reaction there off twitter in this special election taking place in georgia today. you can leave your comments on facebook, at c-span wjet. and you can also text as a 20274 8000.
12:39 pm
we've set aside a special line for georgia residents, as well. it's that same as the text number. this is bill, go ahead. >> yes, good morning. thank you for my call. >> go ahead, you're on. >> oh, great. yeah i'd like to voice my opinion. i don't think i can express myself more than this election here. it means everything to this country in this nation. the people of georgia, in my opinion, i have only got two choices. i think it's a very simple choice. you're voting for two candidates, her shall walker, and senator warnock. and her shall walker, obviously, has nothing to bring to the table except bag of lies and support from trump. but senator warnock, he brings
12:40 pm
integrity, he brings ambition, and he brings vision. not only for the state of georgia, but to the whole country. and i think right now, i've already voted and i am taking my sister today to vote. i think we owe it to the state of georgia and the country, whether you're republican, independent, whatever. do not risk this election over a bag of lies and foolishness. and allow this country to become the greater country that it has the potential to do so. >> so, bill, if i may ask, did you participate in early voting? >> i've already voted. my wife already voted, she voted by mail. my sister in law has voted.
12:41 pm
i am taking my elderly sister, 90 years old, i'm bringing her to -- to vote. >> okay, let's hear from alan. allen in brooklyn, new york. democrats line. good morning, you're next. >> good morning, thank you. i'm a little puzzled at the way to the republicans have traded the issue of her shot walkers immorality. because of the pregnancies he caused in the abortions he requested. to say that the religious view is not only to excuse his wrongdoings but to make the fact that he needed to be forgiven a virtue the stand point of a religious person, but in choosing a senator. then at best, if you forgive
12:42 pm
someone their shortcomings when going into a senate race, that should simply take the issue of sin off the table, and then leave you free to examine the relative qualifications of the candidates. but they are going so far as to turn the fact of his sin into an asset in his campaign, because it gave them an opportunity to express their view of the power forgiveness. and that would be so far from the way they would choose a professional in their own lives. if they want an accountant, a lawyer, a doctor, to treat them, they would not say, oh, i'm going to select you because you did something wrong and you are religious enough to ask forgiveness. but if you are not a skilled professional, why would i want you -- >> okay, that's the view from brooklyn, new york. again, we are talking about today's special election. 202, 8001 for republicans.
12:43 pm
20274 8002, and you can also call us at -- text us at that number, as well. or we will show you some final ads from raphael warnock and her shall walker in the senate special election. >> my daddy woke me up every morning, 6 am. he said, let's get up. get dressed. put your shoes on. he felt that you should always put your shoes on, and just be ready for whatever came. only in america is my story possible, and that's why i am running for reelection. i don't work for the big oil and gas corporations, i work for you. i only work for the best interest of you. >> keep fighting until every child has a chance, every veteran has the benefits they
12:44 pm
deserve. young women should know that they are in control of their own bodies. are you ready to do this one more time? >> are you ready? put your shoes on. we are fighting together. we will stand together, we will win the future together. >> thank you. >> raphael warnock, i approve this message. >> we have never been more optimistic about the future of our state. we cannot rest on our laurels, everyone. you are going to decide who are senator is. this is gonna be a turnout election. who is more motivated? is it them or us? that is right. that is why it is time to retire raphael warnock. we need to stand for hugh hirschville walker for united states senate. >> i am her chihuahua her, i approve this message. >> some of the final ads are being shown leading to today. it is the special election in georgia. we are in mabel tin, georgia.
12:45 pm
marco, ahead. >> well, first, the situation is identifying personal issues for both candidates. you have a situation here where, you know, dornoch has sent his wife said things about him. running over his foot. in response to that, you have people talking about her chihuahua care. either side is not believable. on the other side, you have him telling you he is for abortion. this is one side of people who should be against abortion. otherwise, everybody is for abortion. the pastors are gonna leave people for abortion. each of the people that are supposed to stand up against abortion. look at who's left. obviously, you know, being a christian, i am against warnock for that reason more than anything else.
12:46 pm
on the other side, i am also against pull sides -- you notice the stuff that came up over her chihuahua career. that was after stuff came about warnock and his wife. you see people talk about walker and not warnock. his own wife is against him. i don't see a reason why i would've over warnock because of that. >> did you vote? did you vote today? what is your plan? >> i voted. i am working out of town right now. i voted on the early vote. >> was it a smooth process as far as that wind? >> there is a long line. >> that is mark in georgia. we have a special line to call and give your thoughts on today's election. we have more facebook responses. this is from a viewer. both are terrible choices. teresa hall says that walker knows nothing about being a
12:47 pm
senator beside saying he's running for the house. like donald trump, everything they can with his mouth -- you understand what he is saying. he is a religious leader with a history of public service. which one will georgia choose? dave says a 50/50 senate keeps the democrats at bay. a 51 to 49 senate leads to shenanigans like getting rid of the filibuster, passing these supreme court, d.c. statehood. this election isn't about georgia. walkers in the greatest candidate, but he is a solid vote against democrat policies. that is some responses. you can post your thoughts there. we have heard this from georgia residents. dallas, georgia, we are next. good morning. >> good morning. thank you for having me on. thank you for all that you do. i wanted to say that i am a christian. i am a woman of god. god does forgive. her chihuahua has admitted that
12:48 pm
in all of this. i will be voting for her chilocco today. and i do have a problem if you are on a man of god for wanting abortions. i am a woman. i have a beautiful child. i think that every woman has a right to her body. i think that everybody needs to read into that and understand. i think that democrats have really blindsided everybody with this. we deep into it. we still have our rights. i just wanted to say that. go hirschville. >> alicia, why did you choose to vote today versus early voting? >> i early voted last time. i am a local groomer. i am slammed with dogs for the last week. i did not realize that the early voting stopped on friday. before that, it was saturday. i will be going today. >> is your polling place usually busy? do you expected to be busy?
12:49 pm
>> yes sir. i will wait in line for ever. >> another person giving us that perspective on today's election. we showed you that earlier. there is the question about her chihuahua her. has he lost the middle? one data point from november 8th was especially starred. walk around 200,000 fewer votes in his party colleague in his state. that was governor brian kemp. brian kemp won comfortably over stacey abrams. that points to a great problem. he is not able to connect with modern republicans and independent voters. this adds that warnock bested walker by 11 points in the wanted for voters who consider themselves independent. that is among self described moderates moderates, warnock's margin was much wider. more than 30 points. darren was in florida. he's on the republican line. ron, go ahead.
12:50 pm
>> yes. my name is darren. i live in florida. i am for her show walker. we have to get that seat for the republicans in the senate so we can moderate. we need him to win. it is very important. people don't think this is a crucial place, it is a crucial race. warnock is making a stand. i just hope people don't fall for this time. i didn't like when he ran over his wife. whatever happened there. he always seems like you must work across the aisle, he never does. i want everyone to know that we want walker. >> that is from darren in florida. let's hear from john in new york city. hello. >> hello. >> hi. >> how are you doing? you are doing a good job. you're one of my favorites. i want to bring this abortion thing to the clergy new so-called christians. i want to stay a few statements and then hang out. this is gonna be assured. this is not my statement.
12:51 pm
i want to quote from the bible. these jesus died to give everybody the opportunity to choose right from wrong. ministers say it is wrong to have abortion. jesus gave you the choice. you can do right overall. i am surprised they are not explaining that. just gave you a choice. >> how does that apply specifically to today's race? >> they are getting on one of because they say he is for abortion. he is not for abortion. he is giving people the choice if you want it. that is between you, your job, your family, and your doctor. that is all he is saying. i want these christians, these bishops and preachers to explain to people that you have
12:52 pm
to talk and say that abortion is against god's rules. but you do have a choice. everybody has a choice. thank you. >> john a newer city, the new york times taking a look at certain districts in georgia that might prove to be a challenge for her show walker off i'll warnock. there is a small collection of priests accounts georgia that favored the republicans. rank and, a democrat. -- most of the precincts are concentrated in the northern suburbs of atlanta. they flip their support from one party to another in recent elections. a majority of the states are republican strongholds. they voted for donald trump as president in 2016 by significant margins. in 2020, they shifted to the left. they helped deliver georgia to joe biden. this story also says the georgia voters delivered mr. campbell comfortable victory. stacey abrams did not show the
12:53 pm
same enthusiasm for mr. walker. they cleared the 50% threshold. they sent voters to the polls on that tuesday. there is more about the precincts. that gave you some maps to look at as well if you are interested in the demographics in the dynamics as they play out. you can call land talk about the special senate race as well. -- go to our full lines if you are a georgia resident. , give us a call at eye -- this is teresa in tennessee. we are on the republican line. good morning. >> i have lived in georgia all my life. we have lived in the county's all my life. they all lived there. you media report like it is
12:54 pm
warnock that has this thing beat. they have spent $100 million trying to get raphael warnock reelected. and he is not wiped out her chihuahua korea. they were within a couple of percentage points that took a tour on off. he is always been a good man in georgia. he has been a hometown hero. he had the scandal when he ran for congress. raphael warnock is nothing but a guy who is kicking people out of their homes. he runs over -- what he never talk about him running over his wife? that is his ex-wife. he took his campaign cash to pay over $70,000 in child support because he won't pay for his kids.
12:55 pm
he is a false profit. he is a prosperity preacher. if you give me money, buy me a jet, you will prosper. he support -- you do not report fairly. this is another thing. i want to make a quick. this is another thing i am sick and tired of. people are calling her she'll walker dame and stupid. they elected john betterment. he is not -- >> okay. that is john in south carolina. >> good morning. thank you for taking my call you. i have an issue with people who think pro choice means pro abortion. secondly, i do not believe the hirschville watchers qualified
12:56 pm
to run for office. her schweiger is not qualified to serve in congress. despite whatever the previous color had to say about reverend warnock, hirschville water is not qualified. . to he should stick to football. not all i have to say. >> thank you. we will hear next from jim in wisconsin on the republican line. >> good morning. what i would like to remind people of is that reverend warnock reaches a lot of people. he is one person who reaches congregations. his services televised. he reaches a lot more people. i want to remind individuals that are going to vote that her show walker was traded to
12:57 pm
minnesota for ten individuals and draft picks. i don't know of any other person who is equal to that. that is 10 to 1 among. he supports the right to life. people who use the word choice need to look up choice. >> what does that mean as far as his ability to serve in the senate? >> it means that he has been acclaimed -- he is a strong as ten people. every former football player retires early because of injuries.
12:58 pm
he is gained so much as an offensive player or defensive player. he is worth ten people. he went to minnesota and didn't do as well. he was older. -- those picks that went to dallas made him a top notch team. >> we are going to ronny. democrats mine. >> good morning. i can't say i've never heard an analogy like that. kind of ridiculous. here's a walk it was a good football player. he is totally unqualified for congress -- he is morally unqualified. they're all of these questions that come in on warnock. i would be inclined to get that
12:59 pm
most of them voted for trump and showed support for him -- the role of the things that he did that mocked religion. bottom line is that hershey water is totally unqualified. he is an embarrassment to georgia. the republicans don't care. >> what makes somebody qualified? >> you can tell the same way that marjorie taylor greene, the same way that lauren, they went for one region only. her show walker will be used like a puppet. warnock has shown that he was qualified. >> how has senator warnock shown to be qualified?
1:00 pm
. >> how is were not qualified? >> he is already in congress. he has done a good job. >> you're going to dave on the difficult line. dave in cincinnati, ohio. hello. >> hello. >> we have this on the abortion issue, women should make their own choices. i'm not for abortion. about a woman, i would not have an abortion. -- people were calling it about warnock. that was investigated at the time. who was found not to be credible. we are bringing that up to equate that with walker. it is apples and oranges.
1:01 pm
i can't come up with anything else. he is a solid human being, a pretty good person. [inaudible] i think he will win. easily, easily. >> okay. that is dave there in ohio. >> the election is taking place today. it will not determine who controls the senate. it could determine the political power that democrats have in the senate, what they will have in the next congress. we are talking about that for the next half hour or so. you can call and participate if you wish. (202) 748-8001 for republicans. (202) 748-8000 for democrats. independents, (202) 748-8002. texas. (202) 748-8003. we showed you as a finished out
1:02 pm
the campaigns. we are showing you some more ads. yeah it's hard to say things about each other. here's a sampling of those ads right now. >> i am raphael warnock, i approve this message. >> you hope we don't get better, we do get better. you keep watching us anyway. >> i have seen this video. >> i was watching this movie. it was about vampires. >> what is he talking about? >> is he serious? it's easy for you? >> while both until the vampire. i never knew that. i wanted to be a werewolf. >> he is serious about this, right? >> i was telling this story about this. three of them were pregnant. >> no substance. there's nothing. >> it makes me want to laugh. it makes you want to think that we are joke. >> when china gets all good --
1:03 pm
>> nobody is watching this and being like, oh man, that guy has it together. >> it is embarrassing. let's call it what it is. it is embarrassing. >> character is what you do when nobody is watching. >> warnock thought no one was watching when his ex-wife called police to report his abuse. >> he is a great actor. >> he thought no one was watching when he evicted poor people from their homes. >> we were evicted for $119. >> character is what you do. >> when nobody is watching, you find out who reverend warnock really is. >> i approve this message. >> let's hear from laura in hampton, georgia. good morning. >> good morning. thank you for taking my call. a was calling -- >> we will leave this to go live to a house natural resources hearing on
