1:10 pm
welcome back. we are joined now by cenk uygur who is a democratic presidential candidate but also well known as the host and founder of the young turks. welcome to the program. >> thank you for having me, kimberly. appreciate it. >> why are you running for the democratic nomination? >> because joe biden is going to lose. i don't want to run into this iceberg right now. we are headed straight for the iceberg. joe biden is being an egomaniac. 77% of americans don't believe he can finish the term healthy. that's a stunning number. three quarters of americans are not sure he can finish the second term. he's 15 points behind from when he barely beat donald trump. he's losing almost every swing state, independents by ten points, losing, lose, losing, and he's 37% approval rating. there's no chance an incumbent
1:11 pm
with a 37% approval rating will win the election. i'm in it to knock joe biden out so we can get a real democratic candidate and a strong democratic candidate, not a guy who mumbles and cannot finish his sentences and is in it only for himself. i mean what a giant ego he has. you're willing to endanger america, the voters, democracy, all on the line for his own narcissism. that's why i'm in the race. cenkforamerica.com. >> when you announced your run, repeating what you just said, biden is not going to wing cenk uygur said during the announcement. it should not have been me. it should have been someone else. there's only four months left we must change course. he has a 10% chance of running. i'm running as a proxy, running to win, and also as a proxy for
1:12 pm
any other candidate. the last bit in particular for your announcement, you're running to win but also running as a proxy, what do you mean by that? >> yeah, initially the thought was that, if someone like me can get up to 20-25 points, people will think, wow, this guy who is a talk show host and has a nationalized citizen issue we will get up to later, he's up to 20 or 25, obviously governor whitmer would easily beat biden. he's a weak candidate. the problem is those democratic officials are not promoting courage. 85% chance you will win, and wow, okay, i will get it. since they are basically not showing any courage at all, by the way, if any one of them entered the race, they would easily beat joe biden. easily. their lack of courage is stunning, okay? but since they have not come in
1:13 pm
yet because apparently the democratic party is the authoritarian one, and they were told to sit down, and and they sat down. my job now is just not biden. i'm going to keep telling people things that are super obvious that politicians don't say because they are politicians. they get their bread and butter by joe biden and nancy pelosi and these folks. they are too old. the whole country knows they are too old. let alone the fact he didn't do enough. the right or wrong guys. even if you love joe biden and watch msnbc and think he's god's gift to humanity, it doesn't matter. he's going to lose. i am the messenger, and you know, if you will, paul revere of sorts. biden is going to lose. in fact, i bought bidenisgoingtolose.com. it redirects to my campaign site. it's so obvious.
1:14 pm
>> cenk, you said you would be a proxy for any other candidate, and representative phillips is another candidate, and also doing a primary challenge against biden. why not him? >> look, there's nothing wrong with dean phillips. i'm glad he entered the race. i want more people to enter the race. i'm not the only one who wants more candidate against himself, but is supportive of the other candidates. maryanne williamson has been in the race and is leading me and dean by a lot. i don't know why she is not all over television. which other candidate says this about people? i'm thrilled dean came into the race, but number one, maryanne is tripling his numbers. it's not like he has taken off yet. if there's a fair argument to say why don't you all rally around her as opposed to dean, but that leads to my last point, it's not about dean. he's not only showed courage entering the race, but he's good on money and politics. when people say, oh, now a real politician has entered the
1:15 pm
race, why don't you all go sit down? the real politician got us in trouble in the first place. the only reason i care is because i understand politics and i understand they have instant name credibility, and most importantly the press will hear them out and publicize what they are saying. that's why they would have a good chance of winning in a small narrow of time. in 2028, i will see them on another day in another context, and that's when progressives will win. right now we need anyone who can beat donald trump. it's not joe biden. guys it's not like i have animosity towards joe biden. i have it because he's an eg omaniac and will not let go. it's not about him. it's about donald trump. we cannot lose to trump. apparently everyone you see who is a democratic politician is a liar because they all say the democracy is on the line, and this is the most important
1:16 pm
election of our time. that's why we are running a guy at 37%? that's why we are running the guy losing every swing state? losing to a guy like donald trump? one of the most unpopular politicians of our lifetime. if you're for joe biden, don't pretend it's the most important election of our lifetime. you are saying i don't mind losing as long as i keep the ego of the dear leader. >> how is your campaign being financed? what does your staff and infrastructure look like at this point? >> it's being financed by the people. there's no fancy folks coming in to whisper in my ear, you should really keep the drug prices high. here's a $1 million check to do it. by the way, guys, let's be honest, a rare chance you can hear an honest person on television. and the campaign contributions from corporations are bribes. we all know they are bribes. >> does that mean you won't
1:17 pm
take them? >> oh, of course not. corporate pact money, no way. people say i hate the american people and will take what the corporations give me. why is pfizer giving money to republicans or democrats? why is exxon mobil giving money to a politician? goodrich has funneled about $9 million into joe biden's campaign. you think it's because a. they care about the general welfare or b. they care about making sure we have the right policies in america because they are deeply moved or c. they are interested in goodrich petroleum and its profits? they buy the politicians and say boy, go do what i told you. joe manchin after voting against higher wages in theatrical style in the case of cinema, went to the national restaurant association and collected checks, and they are bought criminals. they just go and do whatever
1:18 pm
their donors tell them. it's the most obvious thing in the world, and they rub it in your face. they are like, these are the guys who didn't want higher wages, and i went and got a check from them, but it's a campaign contribution. no, it's not. it's a bribe. i don't take any bribes, and i'm financed by the people. it is enough financing, and cenkforamerica.com and chip in a dollar as a protest against biden and trump. my staff is fantastic. i need good lawyers, have good lawyers, brad doche was bernie sander's presidential lawyer, and he's on my team. my chairman almost won in the middle of nebraska, and she's fantastic. great digital fund raising time. field operations, and you name it, we got it. >> we want to take your calls in a bit for cenk uygur, and our numbers are the same.
1:19 pm
democrats (202)748-8000, and republicans (202)748-8001. and independents (202)748-8002. on the screen are the presidential requirements. one of those, you be a natural born citizen of the united states, which you are not. so how is it that you believe that you can run for president? >> yeah, so i can show you a clause in the constitution that says black people are three fifths of a person. it's in the constitution, and they amend the constitution. the 14th amendment could not have been any clearer. it says all persons born or naturalized have due process and equal protection. what part of naturalized and equal don't people understand? so there's a supreme court case schneider v. russ where it says
1:20 pm
naturalized citizens cannot be second-class citizens. it's not a small thing. it's small to people who are not naturalized citizens. they think what's the big deal, you can't run for president. that's tiny. >> no, first of all, it's not true. that is deeply bothersome to begin with, but what we hear is you guys are really not americans. we are playing along with you, but you're second class, dirt, and you cannot lead us because we don't really trust you. you may hand us over the hopsburg dynasty. all of you who bled and died for the country, you're just second class. it's a discriminatory part of the constitution. there's a lot of discriminatory parts that were amended out, and specifically by the 14th amendment, and so we are going to take that to court, and we are going to win. if you're a voter out there, you don't have to worry about that. the courts will take care of that. what you have to worry about is who is the best candidate?
1:21 pm
who is honest and wants to deliver for you and has the best policies? that's what you should judge it on. a lot of times the press is like i don't know about the court case, and maryanne, she prayed in a way we don't like, and boo on her spiritualty. all of the nonsense. who has the best policies? who is going to fight for you? joe biden, for example, has a perfectly good policy, public option. everyone is in favor of it, and it's middle of the road, 70% of americans want it. did he fight for you? he didn't propose it. he didn't mean it the minute a democratic leader is elected in the country, all of the progressive groups, left-wing groups all huddle together to figure out how will we pressure the democratic president to do democratic things? every democratic voter knows about it. they will talk about it in the press without saying the words. well, how can the democrats pressure joe biden into passing paid family leave? why do we have to pressure our
1:22 pm
own leader? people never ask that question. why doesn't he want to do it? why did he throw paid family leave under the bus? it's 84%. what is wrong with you joe biden. are you the worst politician in america? why can't you get something passed at 84%. i will tell the truth to the american people. it's because he doesn't want it to pass. his donors think it's going to raise costs for them, so even though it's intensely popular, not just with democratic voters but republican voters and independents, and would pass easily, no one in congress will propose it, and joe biden does not care because they only do the bidding of the donors. >> one more point on the citizenship thing before we go to callers, you have been struck from the ballot in new hampshire and nevada and looking here at new hampshire public radio, and the state ballot law commission upholds barring cenk uygur from the new hampshire primary ballot, and
1:23 pm
they have your declaration of candidacy where you edited things to reflect the legal challenge you're making, and also in nevada that you will not be on the primary ballot there, again after altering the form. >> most of the states don't have the erroneous forms, and it won't be an issue in the majority of the states. for the states that are completely and utterly comically wrong about the constitution, it's okay. that's what the court is for. don't worry about not being on the nevada ballot. i'm not on there today, but that's why we are going to court. again, let the courts handle that. if they say we like the injustice and would like to spit in the face of naturalized citizens, 25 million of you. go die for america. go die for america, but you're second class. >> do you have any support yet? >> we are picking the states we want to sue as we stand now. by the way, if you put on a
1:24 pm
form, in order to run for president, if you're black, signed here that you are three fifths a person, i read it in the constitution. you are not going to sign that. that's outrageous. i'm not going to sign on to my own discrimination. they put out a nonsense form. admit you're a second-class citizen. i'm not going to sign it. the courts can decide is cenk right or new hampshire? 50,000 naturalized citizens in new hampshire. the ballot commission, i'm sorry, but they spit in their face and said ha ha, and the commission said to me, if you lied on the form, we would have let you on. part of the form is wrong, quoting the wrong part of the constitution saying we would let everyone else cross it out, but not you cross it out. that makes no sense at all. that's why you go to the courts to seek justice, and we will seek justice and get justice.
1:25 pm
again, for the voters that's irrelevant. let the courts decide to pick the best candidates. >> lots calls coming through. let's go through as quickly as we can. stephanie in montclair, new jersey, on the democratic line. go ahead, stephanie. can you turn down the volume on your tv please? >> i muted it. okay? >> yes, go ahead, but we can still hear your tv, but see if we can hear you anyway. all right, while you are working on that, let's go ahead and go to lori who is in vancouver, washington, on the republican line.
1:26 pm
>> thank you. the speaker prior to you being on was talking about how he wished the candidates would be representing the country and not just so narrow minded is what he was basically saying, and i thought about that, and i thought, you know, i don't see them speaking about some issues that are so crucial right now, and one of them being in my mind the wave towards socialism, and the hate crimes and hatred overall. all of that combined can be a perfect storm. there was a wonderful educational feature on an article fde.org, and why the pilgrims abandoned common ownership for private property, and it talks about how william bradford saw after a year or two, they were just dying on the vine. they would have failed. he realized it's because they all were commonly storing everything and sharing everything. it was wonderful, but he found there was laziness. >> do you have a question?
1:27 pm
>> yes, i would love to know, does he see whether there is a trend in the party or even in a new party where there is education and there is campaigning and even just the policies that are being established, the legislation that is going forth to change that trend? do they care. that's my question. do the democrats care? do the republicans care? >> all right, let's go ahead and let cenk respond. go ahead. >> there's two different parts of the statement slash question. on socialism, there's so much fear mongering, and i'm not a socialist. i call myself a democratic capitalist. what are we talking about? north korea or finland? because use know, north korea is communist, not socialist, but even if you say venezuela and it's a socialist, that's a different system than the socialism of northern europe. i think when people to the left of me in the democratic party
1:28 pm
talk about socialism, they are talking about denmark and norway that have mixed market to ours and are very, very successful. now to her main point about do any of the politicians care about you? the answer is no. there's a real reason why. both democrats and republicans, the overwhelming majority of them take corporate money, and they are paid to not care about you. they are paid to serve their donors, and they are very good servants. they will do exactly as the checks tell them to do. that's why they never ever fight for you. i mean, earlier caller before i was on described what the american people are going through as a form of torture, and it is. they come out and tell you, we are on your side, and if you vote for us, don't worry. the democrats are right or republicans are right, and we are going to get the bills passed. they never get the billed passed, whatever side you're on. you know why? they are not working for you. they are working for their donors, and the whole thing is
1:29 pm
theater. it's all a mirage. that's why you feel like you're getting screwed every time, because you are. use are totally correct on that. by the way, they split us apart and make us fight over right wing, left wing cultural issues. we disagree, and that's okay. it's a democracy, but they use it to create wedges between us so we don't unite on the issues we actually agree on and can make a difference on. for example, we all want higher wages. how do i know that? it's not just me saying that. every time the higher minimum wage is proposed in the deepest red state, it passes easily. democrats and republicans vote in favor of it because they want higher wages, but when the politicians come in, no higher wages no way, like joe biden, he's a liar. he said he wanted a $15 minimum wage and threw it under the bus in the first interview and said we are not doing it. he had his two allies vote
1:30 pm
against it. they are liars. >> we have a lot of people wanting to talk to. next to anna in california on the independent line. >> hello? >> yes, go ahead, anna. >> hello, mr. uygur. thank you for running. i am now 60 years old, and call it the united corporations of america. so thank you for trusting the corporate influence in our country. my biggest issue is with housing. my daughter who will be close to 40 makes very good amount of money, but she cannot afford to purchase her own home. in l.a. we have an outrageous homeless
1:31 pm
situation. the corporations are purchasing up many, many homes, and they are sitting empty because of greed. people are out on the streets literally because of greed. the democrats have had their proxies on this very channel, and i have called in many times and never address the question directly. they will say we need to build more homes, da, da, da. i wish you would please address the issue in relation to the corporations. >> all right, let's let him go. >> yeah, that is a brilliant point. that is absolutely right. i want to tell the american people something, all of the media and politicians are gaslighting you. what you are seeing and feeling is correct, and they come in and tell you, it's not correct. you should not feel that way, like joe biden talking to the younger voters and hears about their struggles, and he's like,
1:32 pm
oh, get out of here jack, that's a bunch of molarky, we had it tougher. no, you didn't. the facts don't back it up. in the issue she is talking about, private equity companies, the largest finance companies in the world are buying residential real estate as we speak. you can easily look up, and they brag about it. they said we realize the average american, their biggest asset was their home, and that is where you would build wealth. the bankers thought, why are we letting them build up wealth. we should buy the homes and build the wealth, and then we will charge rent, and then we will monopolize the markets, and that way we will drive up the rent. >> so as president what would you do about the housing crisis? >> okay, first of all, i would acknowledge that the private equity companies are doing that, and i would look at it and go, should we allow the corporations to compete against average americans in the home
1:33 pm
market? maybe the answer is yes with limitations and guardrails, and maybe the answer is no. why don't you butt out and let an average american be able to buy houses at affordable prices like we used to before corporate rule, but the politicians never acknowledge it. want to know why? they are almost all financed by private equity companies. >> so you would limit the ability of corporations to own private homes? >> so that is why i said it's an interesting issue and we have to look into it more because if you said, hey, limit corporations ability to own property, that's crazy. they need to own property. that's part and parcel of capitalism and being able to boy a factory, et cetera, but if you say there's areas zoned as residential, and private equity companies and big bankers can not come in and buy in the residential zones, that's worth considering. the reason no politician considers that, they are all bought. i'm not saying in some sort of
1:34 pm
like rhetorical flourish. it's literal. why don't they ever cover campaign contributions? do you think they are giving it for their health? they want to bribe the politicians. >> marty in shreveport, louisiana, on the democratic line. >> good morning. my head is swirling. sir, you are running for president, and this is my first time ever seeing you. if you were president, what would you do, i have three questions to ask you. i just need you to answer the questions. john r. lewis civil rights bill, the stacking or the way that the judicial supreme court is working, and the amount of aid we are giving overseas and what i'm seeing we are trying to draw back on people in the united states, as far as food
1:35 pm
stamps, but we are trying to give more money overseas, how would you address that issue? >> i actually wrote down the three items so cenk can address them one by one. first of all, john lewis civil rights bill, what you would do for enforcement or progress on that, whether or not you might consider adding working to add seats to the supreme court, and also the issue of foreign aid. >> yeah, so first of all, john lewis bill, i want to pass and fight for it, and i want to implement it. that's the problem with democratic leadership. they will tell you they are for the voting rights, and then they throw it under the bus and gave you nothing on it. filibuster, i couldn't do it because of the filibuster. did you know they lifted the debt ceiling the first two years and the lifted the filibuster to pass that? when the stock market is on the line, they can play with the filibuster all day long and it's optional, but the chance
1:36 pm
to give you voting rights, they didn't do it because, oh, filibuster. stop the lies from the democratic politicians pretending to be on your side. i would fight for you and win on the issues. supreme court, i don't believe in stacking it. we have nine justices, and if we add three, they will add five and then seven, and that's not the right way to do it, but yes, the democrats have to win the presidency so they can nominate supreme court justices, and by the way, you know they stole one from us during obama. everyone knows that, so why did they steal one for us? because the democrats don't fight. obama had a whole year, and he said don't worry about it, hillary clinton will win anyway oh, oops. they want to fight for you. the last is foreign aid. guys, i believe in helping other countries. i'm a progressive and believe in expanding the circle of liberty, but i don't believe in
1:37 pm
constantly giving nonstop money for war. for example we are giving israel $14 billion to do what? look what happened on october 7th was horrific, and my heart cries out, and when you hear those stories, if you're not enraged and impassioned for the israeli citizens, something is wrong with you. now there's ten times as many dead civilians on the palestinian side. now we are giving $14 billion for more bombs on their heads? i don't want it. why are our tax dollars not going to our kids or higher education, but going to kill more palestinian children? hell no. i would send zero dollars, not only for extra bombing and deaths, but for the israeli subsidies we are giving. why? israel was one of the top economies in the world. they use it to further the
1:38 pm
occupation. they don't listen to anything we say. why are we giving them money? no, bring it down to zero until they end the occupation. i have nothing but love for israel, as long as they end the occupation, and we can go back to making any decision we like about subsidies, et cetera, and making it be rational. >> what about the foreign aid to ukraine. >> i will not give them a single dollar, and it's crazy to send our money to drop bombs on poor palestinian children. in terms of ukraine, that's a slightly different situation because russia invaded them, and we gave them a promise when they gave away their nukes that we would defend them. the money first goes to the defense contractors and they rob, rob, rob, and hand over what is left to ukraine. i would audit the hell out of the fed and the pentagon. in this case, the pentagon,
1:39 pm
every year they fail the audit and say i don't know where half of the money is. use don't know where $400 million? give me the money back. did that go in the defense contractor hands and grease the politicians? yes, they do. i would be an advocate for the american people, and not for the donors. >> let's keep the language cleaner here. >> i'm sorry. >> let's hear from lydia on the republican line. >> hi, good morning. this guy is a joke. the last election i voted for trump. i am a republican. never again. i will never vote for that criminal. next election is going to be about saving our democracy. therefore, i'm with joe biden. thank you. >> this is an argument that comes up a lot for third party candidates or even people running in the democratic primary that it serves to
1:40 pm
distract or home joe biden. >> oh, has the dear leader been harmed? we should do propaganda to prop him up at 37%. i like that she is open minded and switched from trump. thank you. thank you for having an open mind, no matter what you say about me, but i have to distinguish between two things. a third party run is in a general election. it's costing a couple of points when the guy is a fascist, that's a problem. a primary is not in a general election. a primary helps to pick the stronger democratic candidate, and if you say no, whichevers demigods in washington, if they anoint a leader, it must be a leader, and you must never compete against him. we want the most corrupt guy that the powerful people told us to kiss -- >> i actual want to follow up
1:41 pm
with the primary process. do you think you will get the opportunity to meaningfully engage in debates or any kind of involvement at even the conventions with the democratic party? >> look, the democratic party is supposed to be the people's party, the average guy, and the republicans are for the rich, right? these days the campaign contributions have ruined everything, and so the democratic party has become authoritarian. they always support the most corrupt democrat. that's why they hated bernie sanders. he's honest. boo. get the corrupt guy instead. i have to deal with the dnc, but that's politics, baby. we are in the primary, and it's my job to do the best i can in the circumstances they find myself in. it is what it is. do you think joe biden can
1:42 pm
survive a debate with me? everyone knows you have to hide him in the basement. in a debate, he will get embarrassed. why are you running him in the general election running up against trump? this is really important. there's a mythology they heard the candidate, but not remotely true. in 2016 the republicans had the most vicious, aggressive, strongest primary any of us have seen. they won. in 2020, 27 democrats in a contested primary, the type of primary the media says don't do it. it will hurt the dear leader, they did 27 people, strong primary, and they won. strong primaries lead to strong candidates leading to victories, and we should have as big of a primary as possible. i invite others to run against me, biden, and everyone else. if you want to beat trump, don't go in there with a guy at 37%. look, i will give you --
1:43 pm
>> let's go to more callers here. raymond from colorado on the independent line. >> good morning, mr. cenk. i voted for donald trump, and i'm in 110% in agreement with you. i have a suggestion. instead, well, still run for president, but why not talk to the rock and sit down and talk to him to see if he will run for the democratic party? i would think duane is an entertainer, appealing to the younger generation, an overwhelming favorite and the general as his vice president. you being in the cabinet, i think the perfect person with strength, truth, and integrity, and one thing i would like to
1:44 pm
suggest to cspan, have a webster dictionary there and read what is the definition, what does truth mean? what does integrity mean? i think donald trump is an evil person, and i still think that you would do a great job. thank you. >> what do you think of raymond's idea? >> yeah, he is not wrong. again, the people are way smarter than congressional wisdom in washington. look, he is basically saying a celebrity who is not a politician. the reason people are clamouring for that is because we know the politicians have led us to corporate rule and the status quo, and everyone is dissatisfied with it. it's a form of torture. we want nonpoliticians. in my case, i already tried that, not the rock, but jon stewart.
1:45 pm
i tried to get progressive leaders, and that didn't work, and then the democratic governors to join the race. we have to beat trump, and no incumbent under 50 points wins. an incumbent under 40 points has never won. they are lying to you. he has almost no chance of winning. that's why i tried so hard. when i couldn't get the democratic governors, i tried for jon stewart. he's entertaining, and that matters in modern day politics, and he's a decent human being, who by the way outside of congress, got congress to help veterans and first responders, and he's gotten things done. jon stewart does not realize it, but he would win the primary fairly easily. i'm saying it on tv, john, come into the race. you will win. don't listen to your advisers or whoever is telling you that you can't win. donald trump, you know what he started at in 2015? 1%. 1%, and he rose up. part of the reason he rose up, he was a celebrity, and he was not a politician. the caller is exactly right, and i think the best guy for it
1:46 pm
is jon stewart, but i will take anyone at this point because joe biden is going to lose. >> from our text messages, tom from erie, pennsylvania, says what is cenk's policy position on what is happening on the southern boarder? >> people who watch our show, the young turks, were surprised on the first day of abbott busing people to the democratic cities, i said it makes sense. people were like, why do you think it makes sense to bus the people? >> the border states have to deal with all of that wave of people, and we don't fund them properly, and we don't give them enough help, and then we go haha, it's your problem. once they started to bus them to democratic cities, it was our problem. that's the way it should be. if we are going to pass laws, we should all feel both the advantages and disadvantages of it. now i'm in favor of immigration, and i would send an army of judges there to go
1:47 pm
through the asylum-seeking votes as quickly as possible because we want to be a beacon of light and the shining city on a hill. the people coming over are incredibly hopeful, and they fought through incredible journeys to get here to help their families, and i think the great majority of them are good people. don't listen to the demigods like trump saying they are evil and criminals and that nonsense. but we have to have a process for how to do this right. we have to follow our laws, and yes, i would try to secure the border as much as humanly possible, but i would do it the right, humane way, and we should have to have a system that is rational that allows a certain amount of immigrants in, creates the process for them, and takes the dreamers and makes them citizens, and be decent, but logical and rational instead of the extremes we swing from now.
1:48 pm
>> next up is justin from texas on the democratic line. >> hello? >> yes, go ahead, justin. >> yes, so one thing i wanted to bring up, so this gentleman is running for presidency, and they are here to uphold the constitution, and i heard this man single handedly say earlier our constitution is absolutely nothing because he wants to go around it with him not being a legal u.s. citizen, and that is really bothering me because i feel like that's a big problem with the democratic party. they like to find loopholes with the major situations. the constitution has completely went to crap these days to put it the most logical way i guess i could say. i just think that it's a joke how, i mean the u.s. constitution is not upheld these days, and the fact that he would turn over to the blacks are three fifths of a
1:49 pm
person or whatever his term was, i just think it's kind of ridiculous on how we don't uphold the constitution. >> so before you respond to that, cenk, i want to pull up what you were referencing earlier when we had this discussion, the 14th amendment and specifically section one, looking here at the constitution center, and it says all persons born or naturalized in the united states and subject to the jurisdiction there of are citizens of the united states and of the state wherein they reside. no state shall make or enforce any law that shall abridge the privileges of citizens of the united states more shall any state deprive a person of life, liberty, or property without due process of lie or deny any person the equal protection of the laws. now if you would like to respond to justin. >> unfortunately he accidentally made my point, he's not a citizen.
1:50 pm
we are treated like we are not american citizens. knuckleheads like him think you're foreigners, you're not real citizens, and that's exactly what i'm trying to address. no, we are american citizens. as she just read in the 14th amendment, we are due equal protection. not equal with an asterisk, not really equal, even though we said naturalized in the amendment. he should respect us, are you kidding me? i love the u.s. constitution. one of the great things about the constitution, it allows for amendments because the founding fathers said, we are not going to get it all right here, and you need to amend this document, and it needs to be a living document to adjust to the times, otherwise, it's archaic and out of step. the guy is mumbling into the tv, no, way man. >> cenk -- >> hold on. i need him to understand. what do use think the second
1:51 pm
amendment is? oh, right it amends the constitution. what do you think the first amendment is? it amends the constitution and becomes part of the constitution and makes the constitution better. that's why we love the document >> you mentioned you plan to bring legal challenges, and given the way the courts are, and it could potentially rise up through the ranks, what do you think the likelihood is the courts will take your side? >> first of all, there's no way of knowing. on the one hand they have said that in snyder v. russ, naturalized citizens are not to be treated as second class citizens, and it's unconstitutional to treat us in any way that is less than equal. it was not in a presidential case. i'm being honest with you guys. in the presidential case, i don't know which way the conservative supreme court will go. i know we won't find out unless we take it to the supreme court. if the supreme court says right or wrong, fair or unfair,
1:52 pm
you're not allowed to run, okay, it is what it is. i'm not donald trump and going to say, i lost the court cases, but suspend the constitution. that's what trump said. i'm not in favor of that. i will let the courts decide and live with the decision. >> randy is in kentucky on the republican line. >> good morning. wow. my head is spinning, and if you could look up one thing there and another thing about the constitution, three fifths compromise, and i hear this from democrats so often that blacks and indians were three fifths of a person. i don't know -- can you people just look it up and read that section to people so they will where informed and not distorted or total false truth? i don't know how to nicely put it, but the three-fifths compromise does not make us indian or a slave or black
1:53 pm
person two-thirds of a human. it's just -- i have heard that all my life. the other thing is by black rock and large corporations buying up the homes, go out on the street and find the couples somewhere that are working, maybe not in your neck of the woods or your subdivision, but lower-income subdivisions of couples hoping to buy a home, and now with this inflation we have had, to ask them, and they will tell you very plainly they can't afford it now. they were looking before all of this inflation started, and now with you guys, and i mean, it's shocking -- >> let's go ahead and let cenk respond. i'm looking up the text of the three-fifths clause at the moment. >> you don't have to. it's easy. he's saying three-fifths for the purpose of how much or how
1:54 pm
many representatives the states would get, but brother, you're missing the main point of that, they were counted as not human beings in the constitution in the original document. not three-fifths of a person. they were counted as three- fifths for the purpose of getting more reputation for the slave states. it's a cruel irony of the original constitution in irony, the slaves could not vote or have any rights at all. their kids would be snatched away from them and sold as property, so, brother, you know that you think you're cute saying they were not treat the as three-fifths people, they were treated as nothing, and it had to be amendment you know what amended it? the 14th amendment. the greatest amendment of all time. thank you to the people who won the civil war and the battle to pass the 13th and 14th amendment in the country so black people could be treated as humans.
1:55 pm
that's why we love equal protection and due process. >> i think here we are. y, this is from census.gov. representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states that may be included within this union according to their respective numbers determined by adding to the whole number of free persons including those bound to service for a number of years three fifths of all other persons. that's the specific language. all right, next up, john, in vicksburg, michigan, on the independent line. >> cenk, i'm a big fan of you and the young turks, and i just want to -- well, you already hit on this earlier about what the dnc did to bernie sanders, and that is -- you know, my point is that if any candidate comes in to challenge joe biden, they have to beat the dnc, and that to me, that is
1:56 pm
the problem. now, i believe that 90% of both parties are corrupt to the bone, so anyway, that's my comment, and i appreciate you, and good luck. >> any response to john there, cenk? >> yeah, we know for a fact that the dnc is going around and calling the state parties, saying keep them off the ballot. that's not the democratic party in actively in favor of discrimination. it's sick what they have done to the party of fdr and what they have done to the party of lbj passing the civil rights voting act, et cetera, but look, guys, number one, i say get caught trying, okay? try, try, and try again to actually help the american people pass the bills. i believe in hope. secondly, we got to deal with the situation we have, and not the one we wish we had. i know the dnc is always going to try to rig the election in favor of corporate construct
1:57 pm
democrats and in favor of joe biden. clinton they tried to rig the rules. i'm a big boy. i knew they would try to cheat like that. let's go to cenkforamerica.com and try to beat them. the establishment will always fight back and have entrenched power, but power never concedes without a demand. >> a couple more calls. jonah on the democratic line. >> hi, mr. uygur, my question, what do you think are the effects when a candidate uses ridicule. >> that's interesting. >> i think the effect is powerful, and it works. i know a lot of people, especially on the democratic side grew up on npr and will hate that, no, we have to be gentle and civil and polite and get our -- sorry. >> come on now. >> sorry, i didn't say it.
1:58 pm
i didn't say it. okay. all right, get beat by the republicans with civility and act like gentlemen. no, that's the wrong political strategy. donald trump is good at one thing and one thing only, being loud, ridiculing others, mocking others, and running to the camera, and guess what? he won in 2016 and nearly won in 2020. right now he has a giant lead on joe biden as we speak. sorry, and i know it hurts some people's feelings, but ridicule works in politics. should you ridicule the republicans? well, depends on the situation. good republican voters who want to fight against corruption? no, take the yes for an answer, and if they are republican politicians, and what is trump now proposing? one proposal for the next term, to help the average american? no. to build a wall? no. to lower the corporate taxes again. is that worthy of ridicule? donald trump, you're pretending
1:59 pm
to be a populist, and you want to serve the rich, and god blessed that's the wrong way to go. >> good job. now let's hear from l.j. in grove city, ohio, on the republican line. >> first of all, you don't have an independent line. i registered as independent. >> oh, i'm sorry about that error. we will count you as an independent then. >> so my question is, what is your denomination, number one question, and number two, what is your feelings on this past veterans day that the american flag was taken down, and the palestinian flag was put up. >> where? >> and three -- >> let's give you a chance to respond to that.
2:00 pm
>> okay, so because i didn't have enough hurdles, my denomination is atheist, but hold, if you're a republican or anything like that, i was born muslim, so this is going to be a piece of cake. you know what, guys? i know it's corny, but i actually believe in the american people. they elected barack obama, and yeah, he had a funny immigrant name, too, and his name was hussein, and everyone said they weren't going to, but they. did i believed in him from day one, and barack obama after his first inauguration had an approval rating of 83%. so that is the american american people saying we like that guy. we want that guy. and so there is great goodness and the american people so i don't think they are going to care i was born muslim or i am an atheist pick if you can you say no. he -- i want to be ruled by a religion and i want to be ruled by theocrat's, i'm not your guy. you should go moved to saudi arabia or iran.
