love is patient, love is kind. it is not envy. it does not boast. it is not proud. it is not dishonor others and is not self-seeking and is not easily angered. it keeps no records of wrongs. love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. love never fails. where there are prophecies, they will cease. where there are tongues they will be stilled. where there is knowledge it will pass away. for we know in part and we prophesy in part that when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. when i was a child i talked like a child, thought like a child, recent like a child. when i became an adult, i put the ways of childhood behind me. for now we see only a reflection in a mirror but then we shall see face to face. now i know in part that i show

introduction. i appreciate it very much. what a great senator you are. i want to think a friend in a man of profound faith and patriotism who has also become a great friend. you have become much friendlier when you have a majority of two or three or four. it could even be five pretty soon. but for a little while it was one and it is mike john's or -- mike johnson. thanks as well to somebody doing a fantastic job, senator thune. thank you very much. [applause] it is not easy. it is really great and leader's police -- leader steve scalise, a brave guy. i always say it. and senator chuck schumer.

thank you very much. senator hassan thank you very much. good to see you. congressman jeffries, thank you. and many other leaders in the room. a great group of people. if we could ever come together, it would be unbelievable. it may never happen but it should and maybe it will. from the earliest days of our republic, faith in god have always been the ultimate source of strength that beats in the hearts of our nation. we have to bringig back. we have to bring it back much stronger. it is one of the biggest problems we have had over the last fairly long period of time. we have to bring it back.

thomas jefferson himself once attended sunday services held in the old house chamber on the very ground where i stand today so there could be nothing more beautiful than for us to gather in this majestic place and reaffirm that america is and will always be one nation under god. at every stage of the american story, our country has gotten courage from our trust in the almighty. deep in the soul of every person's got his eight special plan and glorious mission for america and that plan is going to happen. i hope it happens sooner rather than later. it is his hand that guides us every single step of the way, and all of you and the things we

have to do is see the defining role that faith in paris played in the life of our nation and we have to look at this building and each other. we can look at each other to find in most everyone in this room faith has been very strong for the people in this room. there is the statue of john winthrop who proclaimed that america would stand as a city upon a hill with the eyes of all people upon us. almost 400 years after that famous sermon, we see that the lord's help the city stands taller and shines brighter than ever before or at least it soon will. in that same hall we find the statue of the great roger

williams who founded the state of rhode island and named its capital city providence and built the first baptist church in america. it is williams that we have to think for taking religious liberty part of the bedrock of american life. and today we must protect the fundamental freedom with absolute devotion. we must stand strong, just like generations of americans have done on battlefields all around the world. away from the magnificent rotunda, another statute watches over visitors to the capitol, george washington, the founder of our country, often called for americans to join together in prayer very often. more than two centuries later this morning, we heed president washington's wisdom and follow in his mighty footsteps. he was a strong man and of great

religious strength. the stories of legends like washington, winthrop and williams remind us that without faith in god there would be no american story. every citizen should be proud of this exceptional heritage. we have an unbelievable heritage, and we have to use that and make life better for everyone. that is white as we approach the 25th times 10 anniversary, think of that, 250 years we will be celebrating next year of our country's founding. i signed an executive order to resume the process of creating a new national park full of statues of the greatest americans who ever lived. we are going to be honoring our heroes and honoring the greatest

people from our country. we are not going to be tearing down but we are going to be building up. it will be called the national garden of american heroes. some of you will be on that soon to be followed -- hallowed ground. there are a couple of you that i can see right now. it is the president's sole opinion. [laughter] and i have given myself a 25 year period and then somebody else by that time. it will be very built up. it will be something very special and i hope that congress will fully fund this wonderfully unifying project at the first possible opportunity. it will be very important so

that more of our people can be inspired by the faith and courage of patriots like those who we honor in these holes. one of the incredible americans whose memory my order will celebrate is also recognized with a statue in the capitol from the great state of north carolina, who everyone love, reverend billy graham. my father used to take me to watch the crusades. he would take me to yankee stadium. i remember so well and i remember it more than any yankee games. and i've seen a lot of inky games. -- any yankee games. the people loved him. i saw him with franklin, i don't know if franklin is here. he has done a great job with
8:28 am
helping on tragedies and problems like in north carolina, california. he is always the first one there. his father is very proud of him, i can tell you that. billy graham was a very special. one floor below us, reverend graham's statue stands with an open bible, the page turned to a letter from the apostle paul which reads, let us not grow weary of doing good, for a season we will reap if we do not give up, never give up. how about me, if i had given up, i would not be here right now. who knows where i would be. it may not be a good place. if it were up to the democrats, it would not be a good place. there can be no better message for the leaders gathered here to never give up.
8:29 am
we must never grow tired. we must never grow weary, and we always must practice good. as we know last week only a few miles from here our nation witnessed a terrible tragedy when it 67 people were killed in a horrible accident near reagan airport. as one nation, we take solace in the knowledge that they are in the warm embrace of a very loving god. none of us knows exactly when our time on earth will be over. we never know. a truth i confronted a few short months ago when there was an incident that was now fun. it was not a good thing, but god was watching me. the chances of me being here, my sons are shooters, a very good,
8:30 am
don and eric, and the chances of missing from that range with that gun, don equated it to a one foot putt. one foot, that is pretty bad. two feet can seat missing but one foot, you can't miss. he gained some religion. he went up 25% and if you'd know him, that's a lot. [laughter] he said there had to be someone who saved you and i think i know who it is. and i said, don, you've come a long way. he is a good guy. my two sons really couldn't believe it. had i not turned right just at that time, and the audience, 55,000 people standing in this way could there were a few people on the bleachers. there was nobody there except
8:31 am
for my all-time favorite chart in history, the chart on immigration. immigration saved my life, so we will be good for immigration. had i not made that turn, and quickly. it was almost as though a deer bolted. they say the only way you miss on a good shot is if you bolted. i turned to the right to look at the chart and i said, what was that? but god did that. the chances of turning, there is no reason to turn. the chart is rarely brought down. i brought it 20% of the time, and it is never a night right. it is always on the left and it is always at the end of the speech, never at the beginning. if i was a little more than the 90 degree angle, it would be no good and if it was a little less, it would be no good. it went right along the edge.
8:32 am
it didn't affect my hair, can you believe that? [laughter] it might have touched it, but not where it counts. not the skin parts. honestly, it changed something in me, i feel. i feel even stronger. i believed in god but i feel much more strongly about it. thank you. [applause] thank you. but that event, like the tragedy last week, should remind us all that we have to make the most out of every single day that we have. who would think that you are in space and the odds of that happening are so small even without proper control. we should have had the proper control. we should have had better equipment. we don't.
8:33 am
we have obsolete equipment. they were understaffed for whatever reason. i guess the helicopter was high and we will find out exactly what happened. but the odds, even if you had nothing or nobody, the odds of that happening were extremely small. did you ever go to a driving range, hitting hundreds of balls and thousands of hours, i never see another ball hit another ball. you never see them hit. it was amazing that could happen. there were a lot of mistakes made and it should have never happened. but regardless of that, it is amazing that it happened. i think that is going to be used for good. i think what is going to happen is we are all going to sit down and do a great computerized system for our control towers. brand-new and not pieced together obsolete trying to hook up a land system to a computer
8:34 am
system. the first thing some experts told me that happen is you can't hook up land to satellites and you can't look up satellites to land. it doesn't work. we spent billions and billions of dollars trying to renovate an old broken system instead of saying, cut it loose and let's spend less money and build a great system, done by two or three very good companies, specialists. they used 39 companies. that means 39 different hookups have to happen. and i don't know how many people of you are good in terms of all of the kinds of things necessary for that. it is very complex stuff. but when you have 39 different companies working on hooking up, in different cities and different people, you need one company with one set of equipment, and there are some countries that have unbelievable air controller systems, and they
8:35 am
-- rebels would have gone off when that helicopter literally had the same height because it traveled a long distance before it hit them. bells and whistles would have gone off. they have it where they actually can virtually turn the thing around. it would have just never happened if we had the right equipment. one of the things and i will speak to john and mike and chuck and everybody but we have to get together as a single bill just passed where we get the best control system. when i land in my plane privately, i use a system from another country because mike captain tells me, i am landing in new york and is in the system and i won't tell you from a country but because the captain said it is so bad and obsolete that we can't have that we are going to have the best system.
8:36 am
a lot of money but not that much money but it will happen fast and be done by total professionals, when it is done you will not have accidents. it is virtually not possible to have. each of us is blessed with a precious chance to help lead america to renew our pledges of faith and everything else and bring us to new heights and create a future of promise for our people and for ourselves. we had the most important people in the country here because you are the ones who are going to make the decision and you are the ones who are leading us into so many different things, whether it is the right air control system a right sized military or what to do and what not to do. the most important people. in many of you are very religious. i know so many of you are very religious and i think that our country has so badly been hurt and we are very hurt by what
8:37 am
covid did to religion. it really hurt it badly. people couldn't go to church for a long period of time. even going outside, they were given a hard time. i am not blaming anybody for that, but it was very hard to gather so they started using computers. in the combat, it is just a whole new experience they have to get used to. but it is starting to come back. we had a fantastic thing happened yesterday. the army had the best recruitment numbers they have had in more than 15 years. they think it could actually be 25 years. [applause] more than 15 years, just now. and we were talking about it numerous times that we don't have people joining our military service. we don't have people joining our
8:38 am
police force. we have to cherish our police. it is so dangerous that you open a car and they start shooting and they have blackened windows and you don't know who they are. the door opens and a gun is pointed at your face and you can't do a thing about it. your friends will take them out and is a dangerous thing. we have to cherish these people. today we join our hearts and prayers and recommitting to putting our country first. we have to put our country first and make america stronger and greater and more exceptional than ever before, and we have to make religion a much more important factor now could we have to make it an important factor. if we do that, our job is going to be much easier. it unifies people and brings
8:39 am
people together. and then the democrats and republicans can start having lunch again. i remember a while ago they were out to dinner all the time together. we had one from queens and he was a friend of my father, but he would have dinner and he was a democrat but he would have dinner with republicans and it wouldn't make a difference. today it is like shocking and it shouldn't be. we have to get together. we all know what is right and what is wrong. there is going to be a compromise on both sides but we have to do the right thing and get together. you did it with marco rubio. he got 99 votes and the only vote was our vp, who maybe
8:40 am
should've been there to make it 100. i may have been angered if it was 100. that might be a step too far. [applause] pam bondi had support from democrats and some others had some good support. it is doable. we had a recent bill having to do with a very beautiful young lady who was killed from georgia , and that bill was very bipartisan. it was a beautiful thing to watch. if possible, we have to unify. there is big division. some people want an open border and some people in a closed border. that's a big difference. how do you solve that problem? some people want men in women's sports and some people don't. i was with someone yesterday
8:41 am
when the bill was signed so mad that men couldn't participate in women's sports. he was a very smart guy and went to a great school and was a great student, and he actually feels that should happen, men should be able to play, meaning transition into women's sports. and you talk to him, and i don't understand it. i don't understand how the problem ever got started in the first place. it just seems so simple. he is a good person just believes it. it is not going to be easy to convince him otherwise. so where is the middle ground? it is hard to have middle ground. you can either do it or you can't. a lot of good things are going to happen. a lot of people might be surprised to hear me say that of all people but i think a lot of good things are going to happen because our country has got some
8:42 am
big headaches but we have tremendous spirit right now. the spirit was up 49 points this morning. that is the biggest increase in the history of whatever the poll was. so the spirit is there and it is a big factor in probably the hardest thing to get back. the rest is easy. i want to thank you all and congratulate a lot of the new members. i so -- seat so many of you who ran great races, david, that was a great grace. so many great races on both sides. it is good to be with you. and god bless everybody. we want to come together and the happiest and the everything that is going to beat happy. people of religion are going to be happy again.
