invited a bombshell of her own. she invited back "one day at a time" star valerie bertinelli on the show to surprise mac even though they were doing the show at the same time she claims she was having sex with her father. >> someone wanted to be here today to support you. >> she did? >> yes, she did. valerie bertinelli. valerie bertinelli. >> i, more than ever, look up to you now. you didn't know any of this, did you? >> no. i had no idea what you've been through. >> nobody had. >> i'm so happy you're here. >> it was a nice and comforting moment for mac there. valerie bertinelli told me she used drugs with mackenzie phillips. pat, to hear all this from valerie and the claims today
11:09 am
from mackenzie, "one day at a time" is still in reruns around the world. can we ever look at them the same again? >> i never will. you never know what's going on inside a young person's life. yes, those were the days of reckless abandon, having a great time. there weren't any rules. i'm in tv, i'm a big star. but to find out now what was going on within the realm of her own biological family life is just mind blowing and heart breaking and she is going to be damaged one way or the other for the rest of her life. i only hope that people can take her book and learn from it. other victims are saying, if she's telling, i'm going to go tell. we need help. >> that's what mac is hoping for. i mentioned john phillips, her dad, passed away back in 2001. so we don't get to hear his side of it. but besides valerie's reactions today, oprah got a statement from mackenzie's stepmother who said married to john phillips
11:10 am
while she was allegedly having sex with mac. she says this -- i'm stunned by her allegations about her father. i would often complain to john about her overly familiar attitude towards him and he would tell me, that was just her way. john was a good man and with the disease of alcohol and drug addiction, he was incapable, no matter how drunk or drugged he was, of having such a relationship with his own child. quickly, carolina, genevieve saying thkt happen, but based on the detail today we heard on oprah, does it even seem feasible that mac made this up? >> at first, i thought blackouts. but the fact she owned up to having an abortion and going to her father and it may have led to a pregnancy. i think there's some deep-seated secrets here. >> hard to fathom it's fabric e fabricated. this is another question about her disgusting claim. why did she end her affair with her very own father? >> how did it finally stop? >> and the shockers, they don't stop there. mackenzie also claims "rolling stone"s rocker mick jagger locked her in a room and insisted on having sex with her.

"showbiz tonight" was with halle right after she found out the good news and she told me what motherhood means to her. >> just experiencing what motherhood is all about, unconditional love in my life, to raising a human being that i hope will be someone who adds something wonderful to this world in which we live in. and that's like the biggest challenge i can think of in life right now. >> reporter: berry didn't hide the fact that, yeah, it was hard to get pregnant after turning 40, but it was totally worth it. and if there's a mom with a message out there, it's salma
11:17 am
hayek. she says to all women, it's okay to wait to have a kid. >> salma hayek waited until she was 41 to have her first child. >> reporter: and that's why she makes the "showbiz tonight" and "more" magazine list of fabulous women who have had kids hayek's got her own philosophy on motherhood. motherhood is not for everyone, it's for me, but there's no reason why women should feel rushed to have a child. holly hunter waited until she's 47. she's one of seven children herself and holly may be hollywood royalty, but the beauty of holly is that she is bound and determined to keep her kids out of the spotlight and she has. and nicole kidman's star spotlight is almost unavoidable, and that's why she's right at the top of the "showbiz tonight"/"more" magazine list of women who have had kids over 40. when she was 40 years old, kidman and her country superstar keith urban welcomed their first child together, sunday rose.

spears' ex has revealed he's trying to lose weight and get his sexy back. plus, more stories breaking from the "showbiz news ticker," tv's most provocative entertainment news show continues right now. welcome back to "showbiz tonight." it is 30 minutes past the hour. i'm a.j. hammer broadcasting tonight and every night from new york city. tonight, mackenzie phillips' explosive confessions to oprah today claiming that she had sex with her own father. >> i began waking up after a drug-filled events -- >> yeah. >> -- with my pants around my ankles. >> i am telling you, mackenzie's startling sex confessions today will absolutely blow your mind. here are the big breaking developments. mackenzie who starred in the sitcom "one day at a time" is
11:32 am
the daughter of the late rocker john phillips of the mammas and the papas. she made the jaw-dropping claim on "oprah" today that she was having sex with her famous father for over ten years. i'm telling you, these are unbelievably disturbing details. more big news breaking. mackenzie drops another bombshell today that her incestuous relationship with her father ended as dramatically as it began. you have to got to hear how she says she finally ended their sick sexual affair. and if that's not shocking enough, more big news breaking. mackenzie reveals to oprah how mick jagger of all people locked her in a room to have sex with her. joining me tonight in hollywood, pat lalama, an investigative journalist. also joining me in new york, carolina bermuda, a senior editor for "in touch weekly." this really is such an incredible story involving claims of drug abuse, claims of rape, and mackenzie saying she had sex with her father. and she tells all in this new book called "high on arrival."
11:33 am
and on "oprah" today, mackenzie read an excerpt from the book where she describes how she says the incest first started. you've got to watch this. >> i woke up that night from the blackout to find myself having sex with my own father. i don't remember how it started or thankfully how it ended. was it the first time? had this happened before? i didn't know. and i still don't. all i can say is it was the first time i was aware of it. for a moment, i was in my body. in that horrible truth, and then i slipped back into a blackout. your father is supposed to protect you. your father is supposed to protect you, not [ muted ] you. >> wow. the whole thing is just so sad. you can see her trembling throughout this entire interview. pat lalama, let's go to you first. are you surprised that mackenzie would not only reveal this, but go into such graphic detail about it? >> you know, it's a hard call, a.j. i think, a lot of times,
11:34 am
celebrities feel this is the cathartic moment. put it in a book. perhaps others can learn from it. there's another side of me that says, you know what, why put it in a book? why not go, you know, help treat abused children? do something else. i'm so torn about using the medium for the message. what really troubles me is that she asks the public not to hate her father. that troubles me. how are we supposed to feel about the man. that tells me that she still has some work to do emotionally, i believe. >> i'm right there with you. when we step back from this, think about the magnitude of what we're talking about here. you have this teenage star from an iconic sit come, "one day at a time," having sex with her legendary rock star dad from the mammas and the papas and mackenzie claims the incest was consensual and it was going on when she was between 18 and 29 years old.
11:35 am
what made mackenzie put an end to the sick sexual relationship she had with her dad? that answer is just as shocking. watch what she told oprah today. >> i came up pregnant. and i did not know who the father was. the implications, the reality of that -- >> yeah. >> i had an abortion. and i never let him touch me again. >> you never let your father touch you? >> never. >> because you didn't know if the father was your father? >> that's correct. i didn't know. >> did you tell your father, i became pregnant and -- >> he paid for the abortion. >> but did you tell him that this might be your child? >> well, he knew. he knew it might be his child. >> holy moly. i'm listening to this and i don't believe it. and it's just so sad. carolina, can you wrap your head around why it took mackenzie so long to end what was a disgusting situation? >> no, a.j. this is just such a gruesome account and in detail. it's really hard to wrap your head around anything that's going on or anything that she's
11:36 am
saying right now. the only kind of logic i can put behind this, is at time abused children tend to identify or they tend to keep a relationship going on with their abuser. but this was not a child. she was wean t she was between the ages of 18 and 29 years old when this happened. it's bizarre and it's hard to wrap my head around this as a full story. >> what do you think about that? it's hard for us to understand not being in her shoes or anyone in the shoes of that situation. why did it take so long to end something that's clearly wrong. we're not being judgmental here, it's wrong. >> it's hard to understand it. i think i have a bit of a clue, even though i'm not a psychologist. there's no such thing as consensual incest. he may not have been holding a gun to her head, but the abuse of authority, the abuse of power is just as strikingly powerful over her mind, over her psychologically. you can't get out from under it. if you talk to a psychologist, and i'm sure you folks will do something down the road on this,
11:37 am
they will tell you, she, in her own mind, couldn't get out from under it. the authority, the abuse of authority, there are words i can't even tell you about. this is what was happening to her psychologically. it wasn't consensual. she didn't realize it. she may have thought she was agreeing to it, but her mind was not capable of saying, oh, this is wrong, and my dad shouldn't be doing this, therefore i'm going to stop. >> you're making a great point. having a hard time getting past that word "consensual" all day, but that's what mackenzie claims. and another big bombshell that mack kenne mackenzie made. a stunning revelation to oprah. in the private moment, one of her bigtime parties that we had going on in new york city, mick jagger locked her in a room to have sex with her at a moment that her dad may have walked out to get mayonnaise for a sandwich he was having. here's how she explained it on "oprah". >> so my dad walks out, mick turns around, locks the door and looks at me and says, i've been waiting for this since you were 10 years old. i was 18.
11:38 am
there's no pedophilia involved here. that's not what's going on here. and he seduced me. and my dad comes back and -- that's my daughter in there. let her out! and we just -- we ignored him. it's a dubious distinction having had sex with mick jagger. i mean, come on. >> carolina, it seems like that didn't bottom her, something she almost seemed proud of, groupie-like. >> i agree with you. like she relished in telling that story, it was a dubious distinction. i don't know about anyone out there. but any guy who's going to take advantage of a man's daughter that's his friend, i don't think he would be okay. even after she said her dad called the next day and said, did mick take care of you. like she loves telling the story, and it's another notch on the bedpost. is this the proper place to tell the accounts on "oprah." she should be in a therapist office working through some of the past? >> i hope she is in some serious
11:39 am
therapy for all of this. mackenzie -- this goes back to something we touched upon. she told oprah she compared it with stockholm syndrome, where a prisoner becomes able to trust her captor. and she claims her dad shot her up with drugs when she was 14 years old. mackenzie says she eventually forgave her father for all of this when he was on his deathbed in 2001. but, pat, are you surprised that she could forgive him at all? that's shocking to me. >> you know what, if you covered enough child abuse cases, as i have in the many years i've been a reporter, you will see children in family court forgive their parents for some of the most heinous, unbelievable acts against them. i think there's a biological nature to want to say, it's my blood. if there's something wrong with them, does that mean there's something wrong with me? at the same time, i think most modern psychologists will say, you don't have to love your parents when they do bad things to you. she needs to continue to get help. i hope she is. >> we do too.

gosselin sexy? what is his secret that drives the women mad? the 32-year-old soon-to-be-ex of kate gosselin has a girlfriend ten years younger. is jon gosselin sexy? >> we all know it's certainly not his six pack, but women tend to find him sexy because he's a smooth talker. he goes in and tells the women he's been with that they'll be with him forever, and they believe it. >> this is what some of the women that claim he's wooed them are saying. he's very slick when he wants to be and a very fast mover. in fact, former "star" magazine writer kate major told "showbiz tonight" in an exclusive interview that she lost her head with jon and she told me just how she got swept away the first time they met. let's watch this piece of glory. >> i just thought it was a little bit fast, how he invited me to dinner, invited me to this party with, and then we held hands and kissed in the car. this was all --

>> that was on the first night? >> yes. >> you kissed on the first night? >> unfortunately, yes. >> a fast mover indeed. megan, from what we're hearing about jon gosselin, do you get how women everywhere can be totally and utterly attracted to this dude? >> you know, a.j., some of these women are still in love with the original jon gosselin that america fell in love with. a guy that was a good father, loves his eight kids. that image is starting to peel away. he does carry the sympathy vote pretty well. but these women that currently have dated him, they're not so much in love with jon gosselin as they are with the attention dating jon gosselin brings them. >> our "showbiz tonight" facebook page was in full debate mode. you know what i mean if you checked it out. women were firing off comments left and right. no one would agree if jon gosselin is sexy. sherry h. says, "heck, yes, he does have really pretty asian eyes and hee likes kids and
