the fbi is releasing more information about the man who allegedly planned to bomb a target in new york on the anniversary of 9/11. the materials authorities say he planned to use, and where he allegedly got them. >> i'm still holding on to the steering wheel. i was just -- i took about four to five seconds. that's how fast it was to have enough time to react. just holding on for dear life. >> the driver ran right off of a road and plunged 150 feet down a steep cliff here just inches away from the ocean. now he talks about his long wait for help and his dramatic rescue.

>> threatening to put him in jail or fine him $1,000 for helping out their neighbor. >> this woman got in trouble with the state for watching her neighbor's children. she says she's helping out the friends. but the state says, she's breaking the law. good saturday morning to you. i'm natascha curry. this is hln. topping the news this morning. the man accused of plotting a bomb attack to coincide with the anniversary of the september 11 attacks is back in new york. a judge has ordered naji beulah zazi to remain in custody. authorities said zazi planned to make bombs from house hold chemicals he bought from beauty supply stores. an employee from the beauty supply store in new york described zazi as a regular. he gave the fbi a videotape that shows zazi buying a large amount of hydrogen peroxide here. >> there was some small talk. and specific to the product, i believe, one of the employees actually asked, what are you

using all of this stuff for? and he jokingly said, oh, i have a lot of girlfriends. >> zazi's father, mohammed with a lid zazi and a cleric from queens have been arrested and charged with lying to federal agents. he's a mixture between a wannabe gangster and rock star. that's how one neighbor describes a terror suspect. but a 19-year-old jordanian national appeared in court. he's accused of trying to blow up a dallas skyscraper by driving a car with what he thought was a bomb in to the garage. dash cam shows his arrest here on september 10 for driving without a license. president barack obama is hailing efforts to get the world's economy back on track. wrapping up the two-day g-20 summit in pittsburgh, mr. obama said the global economy has been brought back from the brink of the worst financial crisis since

the 1930s. but the message was overshadowed by iran's admission that it has a second uranium enrichment facility. this comes a week before teheran meets with the u.s. and five other western powers. mr. obama says the international community is united in its opposition to iran's program. >> iran is on notice that when we meet with them on october 21, they're going to have to come clean and they're going to have to make a choice. are they willing to go down the path which i think ultimately will lead to greater prosperity and security for iran? giving up the acquisition of nuclear weapons? and deciding that they are willing to abide by international rules and standards in the pursuit of peaceful nuclear energy? or will they continue down a

path that is going to lead to confrontation. >> teheran quickly fired back. mahmud ahmadinejad called mr. obama's criticism baseless. hi he accused the u.s. president for reneging on his call for international unity at the general assembly. >> translator: we did not expect mr. obama within less than 48 years -- 48 hours, to basically violate the commitment that he spoke of at the united nations. in the wake of the revelation it has the second enrichment facility, what possible military option does the u.s. have? barbara starr takes a closer look. >> reporter: this is the new ground zero in the u.s. fight with iran over its nuclear weapons program. here, 20 miles north of the holy city of qom, is where president obama says the regime has built

a secret underground nuclear fuel plant. it's been an intelligence cat-and-mouse game to track iran's latest secret nuclear site. satellites have watched overhead for signs of dirt or vehicle movement. but how can you know what's going on underground? >> that could have been through human intelligence. that could have been through penetration of their -- their computer systems. it could have been a mistake iran made and told someone what was going on. many ways. >> reporter: add to this, two other major worries. another enrichment facility at natanz and a nuclear center at ishmahan, part of iran's program to spread the program across the country and bury facilities underground. putting part of the crown jewels underground could make it tough for the u.s. or israel to effectively bomb these sites and it's tough to know if any

attempt to destroy them is successful. >> centrifuges are sensitive if you whack the mountain hard with very high levels of explosives. you may be able to cause damage through vibrations and the shock waves that go in. but in general, it's very hard to destroy something bury in a mountain. >> reporter: could iran be right in betting the u.s. can't destroy the underground facilities? the u.s. has been trying for years to build a penetrating bomb that could punch through hard rock to destroy deeply buried weapon sites. in an interview that aired sunday on cnn's state of the union, defense secretary robert gates said any military option would only delay, not end iran's nuclear program. >> the reality is, there's no military option that does anything more than buy time. >> reporter: one idea on the books for years -- a 30,000-pound bomb that would be dropped from a b-2 bomber aircraft. there's one complication in this

belt and only suffered a few scrapes and a bump on his head. over the last week, we've been talking about the severe flooding in the southeast. what's in store for the rest of us and that area as well? check in with meteorologist reynolds wolf for the latest forecast this weekend. hey, reynolds. >> i hate to say it, it's back to the forecast in parts of the southeast. we had in some spots two feet of rainfall earlier in the week. i don't think it's in that area today. in spots, the poor drain annual. alabama, tennessee, of course, unfortunately, georgia. we could be dealing with a chance of flash flooding. we had flash flood watches and warning in effect. now through parts of the deep south. the portions of the appalachians. the reason why is this area of low pressure, this frontal boundary, everything driving to the east where it will interact with the moisture coming in from the gulf of mexico and the atlantic ocean. late-day showers and storms a possibility. if you head to the west, a

police in san diego are switching lanes on drag racing and hoping to make it safer. it was a sanctioned race at qualcomm stadium. the aim here is to offer teens an alternative to dangerous illegal street racing. >> we really try to keep a safer community, safer streets. and they need to bring it on to a track. we just have to racetrack. not street. it works. we know that it works. >> in 2002, 48 deaths and injuries were blamed on illegal street racing. this year, police say there's been only one fatality reported. a michigan woman says that the state is threatening to fine her and possibly send her to jail, even, for baby sitting her neighbor's kid. the woman says she's just helping out her friends. the state says she's running an illegal day care. bill dobson with wzzm has the story. >> like, oh my gosh, oh, my gosh. >> reporter: when she opened the

former president bill clinton says he's changed his mind on the controversial issue of gay marriage. in an interview with anderson cooper on the sister network, cnn, the former president says he now supports the idea of letting gay couples get married. >> and i -- decided i was wrong. that if -- that if our society has an interest in coherence and strength and commitment and mutually reenforcing loyalty, then if gay couples want to call their union marriage as states and several now of a religious body will sanction it. i don't think the state should be able to stop the religious bodies from saying it. i don't think the rest of us should get in the way of that. >> clinton is saying he does not

the man accused of plotting a bomb attack to coincide with the anniversary of the september 11 attacks back in new york. a judge has ordered najibullah zazi to remain in custody. authorities say zazi planned to make bombs from house hold chemicals he bought from beauty supply stores. the guantanamo bay detention center may not be closed in time to meet president obama's deadline of next january. sources tell the associated press the white house is running in to legal and logistical hurdles to moving more than 220 detainees still there. and tears of joy in north korea today as families who were separated for decades are being reunited.

o'brien is recovering after hitting his head during a stunt for his show. doctors examined him today at the hospital. he's keeping quiet about his condition. the network is not saying if show production will resume next week. last night, they aired a "tonight show" rerun. o'brien is making light of the mishap. in his statement, he said, quote, i was enjoying playing with mrs. lincoln. next thing i knew, i was in bed being served cookies and juice. a powerful explosion in a city marketplace killed eight people and injured 45 others. it happened today in northwest pakistan. police say that the suicide bomber packed a car with more than 200 pounds of explosives. they arrested two suspects, but did not say how they may be connected to the attack. meanwhile, a separate bombing at a pakistani police station hours earlier killed six people. vice president joe biden is promising quick federal help for

impact your world. banks make a lot of money from extra fees. but soon, you, the customer, could get a break. jennifer westhoven is looking out for you. hey, jenn. this week, some of the big banks decided they were going to trim those nasty overdraft fees. bank of america and wells fargo started it. chase, u.s. bank followed. maybe more. so the question is, is that going to be enough to pacify congress? congress has been hearing a lot of people saying they're furious after getting socked by overdraft fees which could be around $35. and if you make a mistake and get hit with a few in one day, it can be hundreds of dollars in some cases. well, banks don't want to give them all up. overdraft fees are a gold mine for them. they brought in $38 billion this year alone. so banks are hoping to give an

county and municipalities that exist in all of the state of maryland. >> i know as a group i know there are several initiatives taking place. there is a new one. checkpoint strike force. >> yes, it is a research based-multi-state situation where we pick and we go out there and we look for drivers that are impaired and work to get them off of the road and we do that through our sobriarity checkpoints and our saturation patrols. >> and so, which jerse - jurisdiction, one specific area or all of the jurisdictions now involved? >> all throughout maryland, the chiefs of police have signed on. every jurisdiction signed on in some way shape or form to participate in the checkpoint strike force. >> and so do you find that the checkpoints are helpful in

hopefully lowering traffic fatalities? >> absolutely. fatalities have been reduced 20 percent in the areas where we are doing the checkpoints . it proves to be extremely beneficial to us in many different ways. >> and do you find that the residents are supporting the checkpoints and do you have partner necessary this effort? >> yes, we do. as you know, it is a powerful organization of mothers against drunk drivers. we work with them chosely in this endeavor and other organizations. their surveys indicate 85 to 90 percent of the people they talked to support the checkpoints. >> do you do these at specific times of year or are the checkpoints ongoing initiative. >> they are ongoing initiatives. they will be taking place every week and everywhere and where you think that it is the best

possible opportunity to deploy the work force and effective use knowledge of our people in this endeavor. >> as you are having the checkpoints and i know initially you are looking for impaired drivers, but are you finding other things when you are pulling over the impaired drivers? >> oh, yes. people are very surprised what we run into on the checkpoints. the main focus is to get the impaired drivers that use alcohol off of the streets and identify them. but we are running into people who have warrants on them. their licenses are suspended, some people have drugs in the vehicle this we were able to detect and find. there is a whole gamut of things and seat belt usage. it helps us with the seat belt

initiatives and child safety seat. we are able to make different observations and of course, we put a lot of emphasis on the seat belt usage and child safety seat as well >> i know some jurisdiction or most of the them, there is zero tolerance if you don't have your seat belt on, it is amazing that people are still driving without them. >> it is with the seat belt usage, if you are involved in an accident with the impaired drivers that use alcohol that gives you that much more of a chance to survive. >> how can citizens assist with the checkpoint strike force? >> we need them to be our eyes and ears out there. as with many thing necessary law enforcement and we ask citizens to do. if they see a person driving erratically or aggressively and feel they are under the influence of alcohol. pick up the cell phone and dial the number 911 or what ever it

administration was taken aback by general mcchrystal's assessment of afghanistan's problems and the sheer number of troops needed to fix them. >> -- whether adjustments should be made. >> reporter: president obama says he'd only support expanding the insurgency if it's proved to ultimately defeat al qaeda. another consideration is a more limited goal ensuring al qaeda doesn't operate in afghanistan. a just released audio tape allegedly from osama bin laden himself suggests he's listening to that debate. al qaeda warns european nations to leave the u.s.-led coalition and get out of afghanistan. >> reporter: the analyst monitored the recent elections in afghanistan. he says there's a third option on the table besides immediately sending more troops or scaling back the mission. >> i think the leading

car plunged 150 feet right off a steep cliff at devil's slide. for nearly two hours, jesse garcia's car teetered on the rocks inches from the ocean. >> i noticing i was falling backwards and i felt the car leaning towards the right. so it was rotating as it was falling and i can hear and feel the bumps and the car crashes on the rocks. >> garcia managed to call 911, but they had a hard time finding him because of dense fog. then they had to repel down the cliff. luckily garcia was wearing his seat belt and only suffered a few scrapes and a bump on his head. over the last week, we've been talking about some severe flooding in the southeast. and what's in store for the rest of us and that area, as well? let's check in with reynolds wolf for the latest forecast on this weekend. hey, reynolds. >> i'll tell you, i hate to say it, but rain is back in the forecast for parts of the southeast. we had in some spots nearly 2

feet of rainfall. i don't think that's going to be the scenario today. still in spots, poor drainage, low-lying areas, especially in parts of alabama, tennessee, and, of course, unfortunately georgia. we could be dealing with the chance of flash flooding. we already have flash flooded watches and warnings in effect and advisories. not only through parts of just the deep south, but also portions of the appalachians. the reason why is because this area of low pressure, this frontal boundary, everything driving off towards the east where it's going to interact with moisture coming in from both the gulf of mexico and the atlantic ocean. late day showers and storms certainly a possibility. meanwhile, when you head out to the west, very hot, very dry in many places, including southern california and over parts of the four corners. high temperatures for the day, take a look at this, 81 degrees in memphis, 73 in atlanta, 91 in tampa, 64 in new york, 100 in las vegas, and 105 in phoenix. the tropics continue to stay pretty active. we have a system we're watching out there. this tropical depression eight right here in the middle of the screen. it is forecasted to strengthen a little bit.

police in san diego are switching lanes on drag racing and hoping to make it safer. yesterday, drivers lined up for the annual law enforcement drag race. it was a sanctioned race at qualcomm stadium. and the aim is to offer teens an alternative to dangerous illegal street racing. >> we're really trying to keep a safer community, safer streets, and they need to bring it on to a track. you just have to racetrack not street, it works, we know it works. >> in 2002, 48 deaths and injuries were blamed on illegal street racing. this year, police said that
