states? a look into american culture that has people talking about george clooney, and millionaires and president obama. first our top story, iran says it's successfully tested the longest range missile overnight. state-run tv reports the missiles can hit targets 1250 miles away. that means u.s. bases in the middle east and places like israel and athens are in the range. still, the white house says diplomacy is the best way to deal with iran. >> the reality is there is no military option that does anything more than buy time. the estimates are one to three years or so. so i think, as i say, while you don't take options off the table. there's still room left for diplomacy. >> this comes days after iran announced it has a second nuclear facility it had not acknowledged before.

they say it is for peaceful purposes. u.s. is calling for the strongest possible sanctions against iran if the facility is being used to make nuclear weapons. full access to the new facility. chicago police are using amateur video of a 16-year-old boy being beaten to death to search for suspects now. place in the wrong time. they want people to see the video if it helps identify who beat him up. roman polanski could be extradited to the united states on a decade old warrant. his arrest is getting alolt of attention on cnn.com. polanski pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl. but he fled to france before he was sentenced. saturday swiss authorities arrested him as he entered the country to be honored at the film festival. >> for me a shock and i'm ashamed to be -- that swiss is doing such a thing to a brilliant, fantastic genius. >> earlier this year a california judge rejected a request to throw out polanski's case even though his victim supported it. she says bringing the case up over and over again only causes more pain for her and her family.

here's the big story today. iran says it has successfully tested the longest range missiles in its arsenal overnight. iran's state run tv reports the missiles can hit targets up to 1,250 miles away. that means u.s. bases in the middle east in places like israel, moscow and athens are in the range. an international security expert tells our sister network, cnn, that these launches could affect recent attempts to improve u.s./iranian relations. >> i've spent, like, 15 hours in these meetings. you get different ahmadinejads. one year he was very angry and defiant. another year he was more prof so i recall. this year it was the most conciliatory that i've seen him. he has positive things to say about the p-5 plus one talks. said they could be useful, were an opportunity, the u.s. and iran could both take advantage and try to resolve them through these talks. so that was striking and

different this time around. >> the tests come days after iran announced it had a second nuclear facility it had not acknowledged before. the u.s. wants iran to give international inspectors full access to that new facility. there's a breaking story this morning. president obama will go to denmark to try to bring the summer olympics to the united states again. a senior white house official says that president obama is going to fly there on thursday to pitch chicago as the host city for the 2016 games. he's going to be the first u.s. president to make such a personal appeal. so the president is going to go. oscar winning director roman polanski could be extradited to the united states on a decades old warrant. in 1977 he pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old

girl. but he fled to france before sentencing. saturday swiss authorities arrested him as he entered the country to be honored at a film festival. polanski's victim wants the case thrown out. she says reliving it only causes her more pain. defense secretary robert gates is pushing back at critics who want u.s. troops out of afghanistan. gates says even setting a deadline for a pullout would be a disaster for the united states. he tells our sister network, cnn, it would give the taliban and al qaeda a boost. >> failure in afghanistan would be a huge setback for the united states. taliban and al qaeda as far as they're concerned defeated one super power. for them to be seen to defeat a second, i think, would have catastrophic consequences. >> some democrats in congress oppose sending more soldiers and are trying to persuade president obama to set a deadline. the u.s. commander in afghanistan is asking for more

troops. the president has not decided what to do. all right. new this morning, more than half a million kids in the united states have dangerous reactions to common drugs like penicillin every year. a study in "pediatrics sts says children under the age of 5 are affected the most. 5% of the kids are hospitalized. researchers say parents should pay close attention when your child takes a new medicine for the first time. we are seeing security tapes from the 1995 oklahoma city bombing for the first time. but a lawyer who fought to have them released says there's something strange. four surveillance cameras from buildings around the alfred p.mura federal building went black just before the explosion. he says the fbi is covering something up. so far we don't have a response from the fbi. chicago police are using amateur video of a 16-year-old boy being beaten to death to search for suspects.

some people blame gang violence for the brawl. right now four people are being questioned. >> i don't understand how 16, 17-year-old kids, how you could just stand over someone's body and just constantly beat them and stomp them to death. >> dareon alberts' family says the honor roll student was attacked thursday because he would not join a neighborhood gang. others say he may have been simply a bystander at the wrong place at the wrong time. his parents say they want people to see the video if it helps identify who beat him up. michael jackson is still planning to sell out crowds. tickets went out yesterday for advanced greetings about the documentary of his last days. all 3,000 tickets were gone in two hours. people camped out for days to

tough. 47 in -- tomorrow morning wake up around duluth, fargo. frost warnings. rain left up over eastern maine. that's pulling out for you right now. the rest of the country is extremely quiet. we still have those red flag warnings for a good chunk of nevada in towards northern parts of california and oregon. las vegas as well seeing a high temperature today near 100 degrees. out of atlanta, more rain over the weekend. we knew it was going to come. three inches of rain near duluth. look at this car. i see the barrels. i'm going around. went through the barrels fell right through a sink hole here. unbelievable. the gal of some of these drivers. this guy walked away with minor

a pulitzer prize winning columnist for the "new york times" has died. william safir was once a speech

writer for president clinton. he passed away from pancreatic cancer at a hospice in maryland at the age of 79. conan o'brien is expected to be back on "the tonight show" tonight after he congressed his head during a stunt on the show last week. he was taken to a hospital and released after the accident. nbc has not said what the stunt was. but they were forced to show a rerun on friday night. you may remember this story. countrywide financial corporation had special vip mortgages for some people, including public officials. that's not right. congress is looking into it. our money expert jennifer westhoven has a potentially stunning development about recorded phone calls linked to the vip program. >> yeah. you may remember there were some senators who were named. they said we didn't even know about this. what's going on? what we're learning this morning is that there were phone calls, tapes of them, that were reportedly destroyed. and that's got congress calling

for some more information. now, bank of america, of course, bought countrywide in july 2008. well, a bank of america spokesman told "the wall street journal" the company didn't keep any of these recordings that were involved from before july 2008 when it took over countrywide and terminated that program. but this program got a lot of criticism. well, countrywide got a lot of criticism in general in mortgage collapse. but this program included mortgage loans to two senators, a former housing official. now, they all have denied any wrong doing. but, you know, it's a big question. did this company basically try to give people, some people, influential people, much lower rates in return for positive legislation and no rules for the mortgage companies? a car company that's backed by former vice president al gore got a government loan for more than half a billion dollars. that's got some people outraged. we're asking, what do you think about this? you can tell us on our facebook page. $529 million of your money,
