a brutal deadly beating. four people charged with first degree murder. a vicious attack captured on this cell phone video. so disturbing. derrien albert, kicked, hit in the head with a 2 x 4. promising future. his memorial was even burned. so why was he a target? a man in a wheelchair stops a suspected man from groping a little girl in the toy aisle at walmart. the suspect tries to run but our hero makes a tackle. i'm going to have the honor of talking with this brave man, coming up. controversy, opinion, your

point of view. this is "prime news." welcome once again. i'm mike galanos. we have major developments in the haleigh cummings case. the last person to see the 5-year-old is avoiding police. misty cummings now back in satsuma, florida, after a blow one with her new husband, ron. so won't haleigh's stepmom come clean? i spoke with castacey kaiser an t.j. hart to sort out some answers. misty back in satsuma. where was she? >> she was down there in orlando with a friend for a day or two and went to the universal theme park, spent a few days in and around that area. and then i spoke with misty just last night, so with her mother-in-law said that the two got together for the weekend.
6:02 pm
ronald and misty. also went to a mark, let junior play, get away from all the hubbub with the things that goes on. and ron came back a day early, and since then the police have held open an open invitation for her and extended that once again, any time he wants to, welcome to come in and get that timeline straightened out. >> was there a nasty fight, her and ron and that's why she high tailed it to orlando, or was this a planned trip? help us out with that? >> my sources say it was a planned trip, but there are other conflicting stories that say yeah, a fight did take place. during this period of time, a pond was being drained. no one knew if there was a child in the pond. there were a lot of people stopping by, a lot of friction
6:03 pm
going on. remember, her brother was in jail on $50,000 bond for theft of a gun, and he had just made mention that he didn't believe he was home the night the baby disappeared. that factored into a lot of the hubbub that was around that household too. >> haleigh's grand mother was on nancy grace last night. let's listen to some of that. >> to me, it's a very dysfunctional family. and that's the best way i can describe that. one minute, you know, they say one thing and the next minute they call and say, well, i was sorry, you know, i didn't mean to say that. and we'll do better next time. i just don't know what to think of the whole thing. >> that's ron's mom. stacey kaiser, dysfunction, that's putting it mildly, suspect it? >> what it sounds to me is a family that doesn't take good
6:04 pm
responsibility for their action and make change when they're supposed to. >> let's get in a call. jennifer, your thoughts? >> caller: hi, mike, love your show. okay, my theory is, sir, on haleigh cummings, i do believe misty took haleigh and junior to the party, okay? this is very parallel to the casey anthony case. >> you're thinking the partying was a part of that with little kay leigh and casey as well, huh? >> yes, sir. this is where the young mothers, it's a growing trend. they take their children so they can party. >> you're not the only one that believes that theory. t.j., clarify for us, again, we're backtracking here but the theory there was a party, that
6:05 pm
misty took the kids to or at least haleigh. what do we know of this theory? >> this comes from a letter that our radio station received. it came from a party pal of misty's to her boyfriend. he took it to greg page's mother, she scan faxed it to us. she makes reference to a signed statement by a guy named joe and it's all about this statement that she alludes to that state there was supposedly a party where haleigh was taken with junior and misty was with a few other people. the baby allegedly ate oxicontin, died and dumped into a pond. a pond was drained but whether or not that has any relevance to the letter or not, but that's the story going on. coming up, michael jackson's
6:06 pm
autopsy is out. we're finding out he wasn't the sickly skeleton he was portrayed by the tabloids. he was a healthy 50-year-old. no illegal drugs in his system. this should be a huge blow to the defense of dr. conrad murray.

there are homes littered across this country. there's a new program to help ease this buying crisis. but the program is off to a slow start. >> thank you. >> reporter: finally, lisa has the key to a new home. the first she's ever owned. when is the house warming party? >> right now. >> reporter: but reaching this moment has been a test of endurance. she bought the house with the help of nsp, which has $6 billion to help people buy foreclosed homes in 250 cities
6:09 pm
nationwide. most of the money hasn't been spent yet and how it's distributed varies from state to state. but in phoenix, arizona, the goal is to help 900 home buyers. but six months into the program, lisa is just the third person to close on a home. so what has it been like? >> it's been rough. it's been a long process. >> reporter: tired? >> no, i was more annoyed. >> reporter: since june, we've tracked lisa's progress. one of the programs offers prospective home buyers up to $15,000 to cover down payment and closing cost. the idea was to help banks get foreclosed homes off their books and keep neighborhoods from d deteriorating. did you find banks were eager to deal with you? >> no, not really. pretty up every bank except fannie mae was unreceptive to
6:10 pm
the program. >> reporter: the housing department official in charge of dishing out the money in phoenix says people like lisa are competing with real estate investors. they offer the banks cash, usually at a lower price. lisa bid on nearly 30 homes before striking a deal. so you still think this is money well spent? >> i do. any time you stabilize a neighborhood, that's the fabric of our community. ghost towns don't do anybody any good at all. >> reporter: maria is trying to build momentum, she's helped organize this spanish-language telethon to get the word out. there's reason to be optimistic about the plan, another 72 families have been approved and ready to start home shopping. everyone here agrees this program is off to a slow start, but the neighborhood stabilization program won't last forever. the clock is ticking. it's set to expire toward the

end of next year. all right, from ed to this. let's meet one of cnn's top ten heroes. >> hello, i'm john legend. during last year's cnn heroes, i had the honor of performing and helping to recognize the great works of everyday citizens changing the world. as founder of the show many campaign, which seeks an end to global poverty, i'm thrilled to help cnn introduce one of this year's top ten honorees. now more than ever, the world needs heroes. >> approximately 1 billion people lack access to clean water. it's killing more children than aids and malaria combined. yet all that can be prevented. i felt like they wanted to be a part of something. i used to be a bar tender and
6:12 pm
now i provide clean water to people in need. i got on the ground in darfur. their biggest concern was the huge loss of life because of the unclean water. that's when water changed the burden. whether they're filtering water or drilling a well, we want to educate people already on the ground, enabling locals to fix their own water. the joy is the only thing that helps lift the burden. you can be anybody and you can change the world. i'm walking truth of that. coming up on the show, david letterman comes out on national tv, admits he's had sex with multiple women who worked for him. why did he come clean? because allegedly he was being
6:13 pm
blackmailed by a cbs producer from another show, demanding $2 million. we'll hit this on all fronts, from the blackmail plot to letterman coming clean, to whether or not it was even right for him to have these relationships in the first place. i know you're sticking around for that. and become a fan of "prime news" on facebook. check it out. become a fan. more coming up.
6:14 pm
6:15 pm
welcome back to "prime news" on hln. david letterman admits last night on his show that he had sexual relationships, plural,
6:16 pm
with women that had worked for him in the past, came clean because a producer for the show "48 hours" threatened to blackmail him. we'll take your calls. two of my favorite guests joining me, lisa bloom and also with us cooper lawrence, psychologist and author of the book "the cult of celebrity. lisa, you can make a good argument, good move by letterman to go on the offensive and make fun of himself before someone else can take the first shot at him, right? >> yeah, absolutely. he did what he had to do, because once he went in front of the grand jury and testified yesterday, that's over a dozen citizens. once law enforcement is involved, there's the potential for leaks. so as a comedienne, he had people laughing. he makes himself the butt of the jokes right off the bat. who can top that? who is going to make it worse for letterman, he's come out
6:17 pm
swinging and very effectively from a pr point of view. >> cooper, your take on this as you watch it unfold? not only last night but beyond as people talk about it today. >> he used the word "sex." he didn't say i had inappropriate relationship. he came out in front of it and the best defense is an offense, is that -- i don't know sports, is that the right -- >> the best offense is a good defense. >> but what's really great is you can't fault him and say, he's gotten special privileges because he's a celebrity. this is just a man who was caught and he came out and said yep, i did it. >> let's get some calls in and get into further what went down here. christina, your thoughts? >> caller: i can't agree more with lisa bloom. 100% i agree with her that he took control of the situation that wanted to control him. this is a guy who's had stalkers in the past, who have invaded
6:18 pm
his privacy. and the fact that he's had inappropriate or sexual relationships with people in the workplace, that's about as shocking as, i don't know, something that's not shocking. >> we'll get into that a little further. maybe he was on the offensive, but he's not innocent in this. there are workplace issues. one more call and we'll continue the conversation. debbie in illinois, your thoughts? >> caller: i disagree. i'm glad that the blackmail plot has come out, but i think we're -- we as a nation take it so lightly anymore that oh, yeah, we can just make fun of it and i won't look quite as bad as everyone. i think they should look into it. cbs should look into it. >> lisa, you think cbs will say what did happen here over the past few years? >> yes. and i just think that they
6:19 pm
would. here's the issue. are they all consenting adults and no one is hurt and making any claims of inappropriate conduct? then i think he's off the hook. if somebody makes another claim, we have a different issue. >> i want to read a facebook comment. this is sandy m. writing that making light of a boss having sex with his employee is not funny. it's clear abuse of his position of boss. no respectful boss would do this. let's listen again as david letterman, as he gets the cheers and laughter as he fesses up. >> the creepy stuff was that i have had sex with women who worked for me on this show. now, my response to that is, yes, i have. [ laughter ] i have had sex with women who work on the show.
6:20 pm
>> cooper, what do you make of that? sandy on facebook was offended. then you have the audience laughing and cheering. >> i see their point, for sure. we have in this country decided that people having sex with each other, it's perfectly okay. but we don't know the full story. we don't know if he came on to her. we don't know the full nature of the relationship or the whole story behind it. i think people meet in the workplace all the time. >> let's hit on that. >> i'm agreeing with some of the callers, that we have made light of sex and there's nothing private anymore. >> lisa, aren't there policies in place? i mean, reportedly david letterman at the time with one any way, he could have been in his 50s, the person that worked for him in her 20s. clearly someone that worked for him. how does this play out when you
6:21 pm
talk about workplace policies? >> well, almost every company has a policy against sexual harassment and the law is that you can't sexually harass an employee. you can't say you have to have sex with me or else you're not getting promoted. the more common kind is hostile work environment. did the relationship create a hostile work environment so that other employees felt uncomfortable or threatened. i think that's the concern of your facebook viewer and many others who expressed that concern. >> i have friends on the letterman show and i called them and asked them what they knew. and they said they were so discrete, nobody knew. this is the kind of thing that when they found out about it, they found out like we did. they were all shocked. >> i think they were all laughing and clapping because they were so shocked. >> stay with us. y8
