if you thought jon and kate's marriage was ugly, wait until you see the divorce. then richard belser, new york's favorite detective, and he's a comedian too, he joins me to discuss among other things his new book, "i am not a psychic." and actress and author valerie bertinelli will be on with me in the studio. she's fin, she's fin and she speaks her mind. all that and more tonight. welcome to friday. well, i don't know about you, but i've had a long week and i
12:01 am
want it to end. lucky for all of us, our long national nightmare is also at an end. i'm talking about jon and kate. sources say the tlc show is being put on hold until the ex-couple work out their differences. this is really crushing me. joining me to discuss this and so much more is sara bernard, "new york" magazine, contributing editor, danny bonaduce, actor and raid show talk show host of 94.1 wysp in philadelphia and judy gold, comedian store air. welcome to the show. >> thank you, joy. >> is that show finished. please tell me. >> it might be. jon is putting a stop to filming. they'll show a couple more episodes until november. that's stuff they've been taking. they're stringing it together. the reason he's trying to stop it is because he wants to star in a show of his own. and now believe is or not, he's teaming up with michael lohan, as in lindsay lohan's father. >> another bargain.
12:02 am
>> right to. do a show called -- to do a show called "the divorced dad's club." >> oh, god, that's going to be a hit, don't you think? do you really want to watch that? >> do you pay attention to this story of jon and kate? >> i have been day paying attention to the story of jon and kate and i find it fascinating that anyone would want to air out their dirty laundry like that. >> i do it for a living. that's my job. >> he's barring -- he wants to bar the tlc cameras from filming his kids. >> yeah. when he was on the show he didn't want them to bar them from filming the kids. >> now it's kate plus no one now. >> it's a vendetta thing to be honest with you. i pretty much did the same thing. i did a reality show with my family at the end of which i ended up getting divorced and we'll put it on hold until these two work out their differences so i'll be dead ten years before you ever see that woman on television with me again so jon and kate plus agent is dead. >> they are both problematic, let's put it that way.
12:03 am
he's a bad guy in many ways. he's cheated on her and took money from her. she was a slhrew on the show though. who do you like beter? >> hard to know who to like better. they are not going away. she has taped a pilot for telepictures with paula deen. >> with paula deen. >> and possibly someone else we know. >> you're in the pilot, too. >> kind of like "the view," a ripoff of ""the view." >> that's what my sources tell me. i could be wrong. >> i can make an educated guess, no matter what move she making today, she gone. >> i heard jon loves the jews, loves jewish people now and his girlfriend is jewish and he might be converting to judaism. >> i heard the same thing about mel gibson. >> you did? >> and it just didn't work out for mel. >> okay. i want to turn now to the first lady of california tmz snapped some photos of maria shriver driving while talking on her
12:04 am
cell phone, illegal since her husband governor schwarzenegger signed a law banning it last year. judy, if arnold can't even get his wife to follow law, how is he supposed to control california? >> you know, this cracks me up. >> why? >> first of all, because look, the guy passes a law and she's signature on the phone. who the hell was she talking to? >> i don't know, maybe her kids. >> probably talking to the kids. i just think it's hilarious. her getting back at him for being a fake republican >> you think he's really a democrat? >> don't you think he's really a democrat. >> don't tell him that. >> i think it's completely overblown. i can't believe it. >> why? >> i was caught at one of the red light cameras talking on the phone while drinking with my mistress in the passenger seat and i thought it's really not that big of a deal. to be honest with you, governor arnold schwarzenegger, while governor of the state of california, was pulled over on his motorcycle which he has been riding for years and was not in possession or had he ever been in possession of a motorcycle license. did he yell at himself? no. he's quoted in the paper saying
12:05 am
there will be swift action at my action tonight. there will be swift action between me and my girl tonight ant my house. it doesn't mean she will feel reprimanded. >> oh, boy, oh, danny macho man. >> drinking -- >> she's younger than i am. >> by the way, she's donating the phone to charity. >> maybe she's not going to get another phone. >> i think she needs a phone. >> maybe the $70 would be better to bail out the state of california. >> she's actually donating it to madd, mothers against dialing. >> let's move on. david letterman had an awkward conversation with tinea fey about sex. take a look. >> did you even know about that or should i bring it up? >> i happened to be reading one of the magazines. >> virgins into their 20s. >> and it says here. >> old virgins. >> it says here you, tina fey. >> yes, we don't have to read that part. >> 24. >> there's nothing wrong with that, is there? >> no. >> yeah.
12:06 am
>> and -- >> couldn't give it away. couldn't give it away. >> cute, isn't she? >> if she had been working for letterman, she probably would have had it done before. >> it letterman going to come off as creepy every time this topic of sex comes up now? how long will this go on? >> i think a long time. he looks like a creepy old guy. >> do you think so? >> i love him, but sorry. just the elephant in the middle of the room but at least he acknowledges it. >> it's certainly a difference of opinion. i think possibly between genders because i look at him and say i can't believe the creepy old guy still gets laid, look at that. >> he's a hero. >> hero to lots of people. >> a hero to you. >> is he a hero to you, sarah? >> this whole thing will last five more minutes. it helps his ratings. two weeks ago, he was killing everybody else and he was number one. >> yeah. >> i think this is only when we get over it a little bit it will only help him. cbs will definitely renew his contract and this will not be the end of letterman. >> i don't think it's the end either. >> what was the point of having your own show if you're not
12:07 am
sleeping with the staff? >> first of all -- >> that is so retro. i can't even go there. >> i want to sleep with one of the producers. it's in my rider. >> but, you know, i think he's not a politician. he's a comic, and, you know, that's what happens on these shows. >> gloria alred is talking about it and her daughter, lisa bloom is saying it's about favoritism more than harassment because the other girls are not sleeping with them and they are not on tv getting after scale. that's the real problem. >> well, i don't think gloria allred, if you're going to talk about somebody, she actually turns the screws on people, it's an entirely different subject. she's just bitter about the whole thing. >> every man who is discus it had on my show they think it's fine. the women have issues. >> i have noticed that. women have issues. but it's true. they are really pissed off at him. >> you're not pissed? >> this is not any kind of a joke. i'm being serious, three
12:08 am
television shows in the last three years and i've slept with a member of every single staff and i don't think one of them wouldn't say that it wasn't a pretty good damn time. >> how long is the extortion case going to go on with the other guy? could he have cash that had check for $2 million? >> i think he believed he could. that's the best part of the whole story. >> he seemed to be just in pain because the girlfriend was cheating on him and everything, i don't know. >> with letterman. >> isn't this guy though a respected producer of a respected news show? >> yes. >> who walks into a bank with a check for $2 million and say by the way can i have $1 million back in cash please. >> a little out of -- >> a little out of it. >> on the other hand he's a single guy and is available. thanks, everyone. >> richard belzer when we come back.

i'm back with my fabulous panel. talk about the magazine, "teen vogue." okay. they are in hot water for putting an unmarried pregnant 19-year-old woman jordan dunn on the cover. sarah, you're in the magazine industry. is someone really losing it over there at "teen vogue?" >> probably. but i have to say i sympathize with "teen vogue" in this situation. i bet they booked this model. she's doing a lot of great things. she was the first african-american model to walk the prada runway since naomi campbell. they were trying to highlight her life along with a bunch of other african-american models
12:13 am
and it ended up after that photo shoot that they found out that she was actually pregnant and due in december. that's a tricky situation because if they had cancelled it they would have gotten a lot of coverage for cancelling this pregnant unwed mom. you know, she's 19 years old, and while that is young, that is not as young as say jamie lynn spears who starred in a nickelodeon show while she was pregnant. >> and what they did to sarah palin's daughter bristol. >> a brilliant point, by the way, that she's in two protected classes, an african-american -- three, african-american pregnant female. ever try to fire that lady? >> they didn't know she's pregnant. she weighs 12 pounds. >> if you're rush limbaugh and screaming at the liberal democrats, you know, the kind of western civilization. if you're like i am the father of a teenaged daughter you don't mind showing them, look, you
12:14 am
really do end up pregnant. you should be very careful young lady. i applaud that. >> instead of saying it's okay to be pregnant if you're unmarried, everybody is complaining about that. >> or if you're beautiful. >> it's part of the conversation though. i think the thing that has gotten them into hot water is their read cher is not 19, but 14 or 15 and it's gotten the conversation going so that might be okay. >> is it okay to be pregnant and not married? am i behind the times on that? >> yeah, it is. i heard it is. >> el with -- >> if you're republican and your mother -- >> "time" magazine says it's pretty much jumped about 30% since the '70s, unmarried pregnant women. >> i didn't say it was bright. >> not really the greatest thing financially. >> i don't think it's immoral but it's impractical. >> it's impractical but a lot of women want to have that baby, they have a lose. >> that need. you've got to think about it. come on. i have two kids. it's annoying. you warned me, joy, and you were right. >> and you're a lesbian. you didn't even have to do it.
12:15 am
>> i know. i went way out of my way. oh, god. >> meanwhile, let's go to another story. across the atlantic "french vogue" is in hot water. they did a spread of a white supermodel lara stone in black face. who is their editor, rush limbaugh, judy? what do you think of that? >> you know, blackface is coming back. i asked the makeup people to do blackface on me and they didn't have enough time. what is the point? blackface with white lips, isn't it? >> it's very insulting to african-americans. >> i don't understand it. >> wealth, if it is not insulting to african-americans, then everybody owes ted danson a huge apology. >> that's right. >> if, on the other hand, it is offensive then we need to dig up al jolson and tell him what a rat he turned out to be. >> that was a long time sdploog when was racism okay? >> it's never been okay, but in those days they could be sort of forgiven in a way because they were that dump. >> really. >> it's really inexcusable today. >> the first amendment will cover you unless you are trying
12:16 am
to incite insurrection. i think they were trying to incite anorexion. >> the jackson jive on australian tv, you saw the whole thing, a turkish news reporter was in blackface while reporting on obama, i mean, what is going on? >> and an episode of "mad men" where one of the characters was wearing blackface but that was also in the context of the time and trying to point out that that was offensive and wrong. i think what's -- what's bizarre about this "french vogue" situation is there's absolutely no context. we can't tell is she doing this to be funny or not. >> what's the point? >> i don't know. they are crazy. they just want to sell magazines. >> they want us to be talking about it. >> exactly. one more story the obama administration is in the middle of a heated feud with fox news. predictably glen beck brought the feud to a whole new and ridiculous level. listen to this.
12:17 am
>> okay. before we discuss this, can i just point out that calling the president a racist isn't a tough question. it's not even a question, you idiot. it's a declarative, okay. i'm back with my panel. >> he is a mental patient this guy. he is out of his mind. >> isn't he trivializing the holocaust a little? >> a little. >> when he brought the jews into in. >> why do we get brought into -- you're not jewish. sarah you're jewish. >> i don't want to be involved with glenn beck. >> we always get dragged into everything. i'm sick of it. >> it's horrifying and shouldn't be taken that lightly. he says when they are done with fox news and he compares it with the holocaust, the holocaust is just a word. 6 million people were gassed to death. how dare he say that? how dare he make that reference.
12:18 am
>> but he's -- let's just try to see what the point is at least. >> the point is that he can say whatever he wants about whomever and just -- there's no censorship but the minute someone says something in retaliation then he brings up the holocaust. >> known he's a victim. >> he is a victim. >> but he is rooting for the first amendment in a certain way. >> i think he blurs that line because after a while you blur the line between the news and entertainment and there are only a few things where having a big recession only a few things that are recession proof in my opinion, drugs, prostitution and entertainment, and i'm for all three. >> yeah. >> you know. >> i think that's what he's doing. >> what the white house is going to do about this? the more attention they pay, the more, the more ratings he gets so it's a kind of situation -- >> is he a ratings idol for you, dany? >> he's an idol of mine in recovery for alcoholism and the second he started talking and i've been recovering for years i immediately started drinking
12:19 am
again, and i really would like to thank him for that because it's going really well. >> do you see a trend? rush limbaugh oxycontin, glenn beck alcoholic, danny bonaduce alcoholic? >> current drinker, not kidding. >> george bush ex-alcoholic, i mean -- >> literally jumping on the wagon. i jumped off. >> don't you think when you're an alcoholic or a drug addict and then you quit you really still have that addictive personality. you've got to put it some place else so where did you put it? >> i put it back in the bar where it belonged. >> where did you put your addiction? what are you addicted to now, talking on the radio. >> talking incessantly. it's horrifying. i use up all the oxygen in the room. >> andy glenn beck's addiction might be getting more and more publicity. >> why don't the republicans -- why do they align themselves with people like glenn beck and rick lunch but a, these zealots? >> who. >> the republicans. >> they are not exactly aligning. >> they don't say anything.
12:20 am
>> they don't say anything. >> because they know they have a base, just like sarah palin. they know she's dumb but she has a tremendous base in the republican party on the right. >> i think that is exactly the right analogy. they handled her so well because they didn't attack her as much as they could because they knew it was just going to add fuel to the fire. if they keep attacking him and pointing this out over and over, if the communications director keeps doing that, he'll gain and they will lose. >> they need to chill. >> i thought it was interesting that rush limbaugh who is such a conservative took so much oxycontin that he went deaf but that's just god blessing him so he doesn't have to hear his show. >> that's funny, danny. >> thank you. >> you ought to be a comedian. >> i've heard that. >> thanks all of you for coming. i enjoyed this. did you have fun? >> thank you. >> thanks to my entire panel. stephen baldwin joins me next. don't go away. what a night. @@@@@@@@@d
