album cover displays that. the latest information on swine flu shows it's really hitting kids and young adults the hardest. the cdc says in the past seven weeks, more than half of all hospitalizations were for people 24 and younger. and deaths from the swine flu seem to be concentrated among the young. >> this is dramatically different from what we see with seasonal flu. with seasonal flu, 90% of fatalities occur in people 65 and over. it's almost completely reversd here. nearly 90% of our fatalities are occurring in people under 65. >> now they don't have the swine flu, but so many kids called in sick with flu-like symptoms that a chicago area high school had to shut down. more than 900 kids stayed home yesterday. that's nearly half of the student body. >> actually, our staff is continuing to work. we didn't have a major staff outage, which was fortunate for us. so our staff actually are going to divide up all 2200 students each day and make sure, check on

their wellness and from that we'll be able to ascertain whether we can open on monday or not. >> the homecoming day and the dance for last weekend and officials think the illnesses may have spread there. senator john kerry will probably get a big congrats from president obama today. kerry helped convince afghan president hamid karzai to agree to a runoff election. fraud investigators say more than 1 million ballots from the august votes were invalid. karzai needed some persuading for a revote. kerry shared his own similar experiences like his tough decision not to challenge votes from the '04 presidential election. police may have stopped another columbine. a 15-year-old new york boy is at a psychiatric hospital for allegedly plotting to attack his former high school. investigators say they found gasoline and fuses and that he'd been trying to buy an assault rifle. police say his parents had no idea it was going on. that's the part that other parents could relate to. >> sometimes we just, as

parents, just really don't know what's going on in that child's room, unfortunately. >> he must be very troubled. >> police say that the boy admitted being angry with kids at the school because he had been bullied. investigators believe he was planning the attack for april 20th, the same day as the columbine high school killings in 1999. a public option for health care reform isn't dead yet. a top aide to house democrats says they've cut back on the spending in their proposal so that now it's more in line with the senate plan. capitol hill bean counters estimate both would cost less than $900 billion over ten years. a final bill could be ready in the next few weeks. we're hearing emotional new details about a virginia tech student who vanished from a metallica concert on saturday. morgan harrington's mom says they expected her back at the house on sunday to study for a math test with her dad. >> as you can tell, we're pretty distraught with her absence, and

want her back home as soon as we can in time to take that math test would be fine because we miss our little baby. she is our precious daughter. and we hope that this attention can help bring her back to our home. >> her mom says she was with her saturday morning helping her pick out an outfit for the concert. police want anyone who took pictures at the convert to look closely at them to see if they spot harrington. metallica posted a message on their website asking for help finding the woman. there is possibly more trouble for balloon boy's parents. now the faa says it is also investigating last week's incident. a separate investigation by local officials could lead to criminal charges if they decide once and for all it was a hoax. plus, for the first time, we're hearing richard heene's 911 call when he said he thought his son had flown away in a balloon. >> we thought we had the thing tethered down, and my -- i think

most wanted list. eduardo ravelo is wanted for racketeering but official say he's also responsible for dozens of murders and assaults, plus drug trafficking and extortion. correspondent richard lui joins us now. what makes this guy more dangerous, say than other murder suspects? >> interesting details here. ravelo is a leader of the barrio azteca gang in elpass oh, texas. he rose to you power last year by brutally killing the guy he replaced. he also has strong ties to the drug cartel just across the border in juarez, mexico. agents say ravelo does their dirty work killing their enemies in exchange for drugs, which he then sells in mexico and the united states. so some reasons why he might be dangerous. the fbi also thinks that r ra voo elo is hide with his wife and children in a mexican neighborhood controlled by his gang. the fbi agent who has been tracking him says he's not flashy, lays low and is well protected. >> he has an entourage.

he has body guards. he has armored vehicles to protect him from, you know, rival gangs and also rival cartels. >> authorities think he also drastically changed his appearance. this is his driver's license photo from 1998. but agents say he has since shaved his head, manipulate his fingerprints and even got some plastic surgery. more on business now with jen westhoven. how does a box of sugary cereal end up with a label calling it a smart choice. that's what health officials want to know. we look at that. doesn't seem to make sense. >> i just want to say, richard lui, mafia detective ♪ >> making fun of the richard heene song. >> you can change it every day with your topic. the green check that's coming on some of the foods you might see at the grocery store. it's something the industry did because they wanted to try to come up with a uniform labeling

system. they are called the smart choice labels. that's what it looks like but a lot smaller on the box. the fda says they are going to make sure that those are accurate labels. they say they'll develop nutritional standards by the government agency and then say products would have to meet those standards before they could be labeled as healthy or smart choices. we've talked about how it's not just sugary cereals like fruit loops but many of them, but also mayonnaise, for example, that's getting the smart check that's causing some people to go, really? really? that's a smart choice? what? honda says it may start building the fit right here in the united states. that would bring some jobs and manufacturing work here from japan. that would be some good news in a bad economy. not a definite choice yet. but there's the fit. looks a little like a mini minivan. honda has been surprised by how many americans have been buying it. no final decision yet but honda already has two plants in ohio and one each in alabama and

indiana. fear about the flu has caused such a demand for hand sanitizer that the makers of purele are asking please do not hoard the stuff. go to industries from ohio has tripled production. they are working 24/7. but they are worried that supplies are limited. you have plenty of it, you don't need to go out and buy like a gallon dispenser. here's a story about a bad return on your investment. a guy spends nearly 12 grand to build a tree house. now he has to tear it down. why the city is saying get rid of it.

authorities fear for a little girl who they say never made it home from school on monday. officers in north florida are working 12-hour shifts looking for 7-year-old summer thompson. they turned up nothing in her neighborhood yesterday. and now suspect foul play.

swine flu appears to be most dangerous for kids and young adults. the cdc says since september, more than half the swine flu hospitalizations have been in people under the age of 24. they think that older people have some immunity to the swine flu thanks to exposure during an outbreak decades ago. president obama honors some vietnam vets for a daring rescue of fellow soldiers. he gave the military's highest unit honor to troop "a" first squadron of the 11th armored combat regiment. in 1970 they rescued soldiers surrounded by enemy fighters. the president says these soldiers defined the meaning of bravery and heroism. intense video here.

a bus full of teachers caught in a flash flood in colombia had to be pulled from the water. this happened after a river burst its banks. everybody made it out okay. heavy rain across the country included out roads forcing some to sit in traffic for hours. just wanted to pause so i could say morning. you might want to get your hiny out of the bed if you're going to be late. you get ready and i'll get your brain ready. 16,000 nurses could walk off the job because they say their hospitals haven't prepared enough for the swine flu. a california nurses union says their members do not have good access to protective gear, that they need to use while treating patients with the swine flu. >> making sure the n-95 respirator mask is available, hepa filters, isolation rooms. all the things we need to be able to keep ourselves safe and healthy. >> the nurses say they'll walk off the job for one day, october 30th. the move would affect 34

hospitals in some of california's biggest cities. the hospitals and nurses union are in talks to avoid that strike. today the fbi releases the latest addition to their most wanted list. three new people will make the top ten this week. we told you about eduardo ravelo. agents say he's a texas gang leader and a hit man for a mexican drug cartel. correspondent richard lui now. so another man with ties to mexico just made the list as well. >> that's right. from those openings that just came open. joe saenz. he's trafficking drugs across the border now. but he first got on their raid nar 1998 when he allegedly killed two rivals of his quat row flats gang. saenz was out of sight for a decade but police spotted him on surveillance video last year at a murder scene. >> if you look at the video you know, he's rubbing his hands before he goes in the house. he's smiling. it looks like he really enjoys what he does. he enjoys killing people.

>> an idea there of who he might be. >> in addition to the gang related murders, saenz, kidnapped, raped and murdered the mother of his child because, robin, he thought she might turn him in. >> so frightening. you know, the fbi says that this guy has been involved in gangs for at least 15 years. that's a long time. why has it been so hard to catch him? >> j. edgar hoover started the most wanted list in 1950. 491 people have been on it since then and 463 were caught. that's an almost 95% track record. so if you get on the list, it gets tough for you. you'll probably get caught. also tips from the public that were responsible for about one-third of those arrests. the fbi hopes the publicity from the most wanted list will lead to the break they need in these cases. of course, saenz is on the run, difficult to catch. >> richard, thank you so much. new details this morning in the beating death of a chicago honor student. murder charges were dropped against one of the four teens accused of killing 16-year-old

tough to get it to stick when it's that warm. hopefully you won't see any travel delays out of that. texas, thunderstorms, showers developing near dallas. heavier rain around amarillo. see that line as it moves up toward the north. the whole rain shield itself is going to move slowly to the east over the next couple of days. next 36 hours, a lot of rain pile up. 1 to 4 inches around the areas by texarkana back to dallas through ft. worth. all the way in towards florida by probably friday morning. showers going all the way towards the north around nebraska. extends way on in toward the upper midwest. a little light snow across south dakota, too. how about the bad weather for the east coast. live to miami, florida. big thundershower now moving ashore. that's what it looked like. the rain around the region. you can see off and on showers all morning long. haven't seen a delay at the airport yet. if one sets up shop right over you, you definitely will. better weather up towards the north. a decent south wind for you coming up around new york city.

police say a robbery suspect prayed with a clerk before he robbed her. they say the armed man went into a check cashing company in indianapolis on monday. eventually the clerk started crying and talked about god. the suspect said he had a 2-year-old to support so he and the woman prayed about overcoming his troubles. police say that he took her cell phone and 20 bucks and then surrendered the next day. prices of some things are dropping but sending your kids to college is not. our money expert jennifer westhoven is here. what's the going rate right now? >> well, depend on the school, but for a one-year if you are going to a private school, more than $35,000 a year. that's tuition fees, room and board. of course, a public school is a lot cheaper than that, but their price is still 6% higher.

so it's about $15,000 if you are in state and more than $26,000 if you are out of state. that is tough. we're talking so much about so many prices that have come down. not for school. the only good news we could find in this annual report by the college board, there are more students who are qualifying for some kind of financial aid. could be a grant. could be some kind of tax benefit. about two out of three now. so that is helping a little. but, i mean, marginally compared to how much it costs for an education these days. $25,000 a year times four is 100 grand to come up with. i want to keep you up to date on what's happen with the possible extension for unemployment benefits. it's been stuck in the senate. now by some accounts, it's because republicans want to tack a number of amendments on to the bill, including one that has to do with a.c.o.r.n. others are talking about maybe the housing credit there. the trouble with all of this

political dithering is that the bill is not retroactive. so anybody who loses their benefits now while they are all arguing inside the beltway, you will be ol. you would be out of luck. so that is a problem. the current senate plan is 14 more weeks of benefits for everybody and then if you live in one of the states with a very high unemployment rate, you get six extra weeks on top of that. so we're talking about at this point for some people more than a year's worth of benefits if you lose your job. >> right. but what happens afterwards, exactly. like if the job you were in just is an industry that isn't coming back. thank you. remember the woman who slammed her husband and just howled about their prenup agreement on youtube? she let him have it. here she is. well, uh-oh. oh, my goodness. that's how she acted in court? a court is weighing in on their split. that is new for you in about 40 minutes.

cnn.com/robin. a man described as a ruthless killer is the latest addition to the fbi's top ten most wanted list. edwardo ra very well low is wanted for racketeering. but agents say he's also responsible for dozens of murders and assaults plus drug trafficking and extortion. correspondent richard lui joins us. what makes him, say, more dangerous than other murder suspects? >> what he is is a leader of a gang in el paso, texas. the fbi says here that he rose to power last year by brutally killing the guy that he replaced. he also has strong ties to the drug cartel just across the border in juarez, mexico. agents say he does their dirty work killing their enemies in exchange for drug that he then sells there in mexico and the united states. robin? >> sounds like a gunshot just rang out t. wasn't that at all.

the fbi says he's been involved in gangs for at least 15 15ees. why is he so hard to catch? that's long time. >> the fbi thinks he is hiding with his wife and children as well in a juarez neighborhood controlled by his gang. you can see how close it is to his hometown of el paso in map here. agents say he also avoids being flashy, lays low and is well protected. >> he has an entourage. he has bodyguards, he has armored vehicles to protect him from rival kbangs and rival cartels. >> authorities think he also drastically changed his appearance. this is his driver's license photo since 1998. agents say he shaved his head, manipulated fingerprints and has gotten plastic surgery. >> the fingerprint thing is fascinating. richard, thank you. >> sure.

i ask you, how does a box of sugary cereal end up with a label "smart choice." jennifer westhoven is looking out for us. i do choose the cereals that have the high fiber. i'm well aware they've got carmel and sugar and everything else in them, but they do have high fiber. >> there was one consumer advocate who said, you could take sawdust and throw vitamins in it, and it would qualify with that label. the fda says they'll look into it. we told you about the smart choice labels before. the food industry started using them, they want a uniform way instead of every different food company having all their own symbols, they wanted a uniform way to do it. but when sugary cereals and mayonnaise got the green check on the box, that started raising questions. maybe you were thinking, that doesn't sound so nutritious to

me. the fda says now it will develop some nutritional standards and products would have to meet its standards before they could be labeled as healthy or smart choices. we'll watch that one. honda says it may start building the fit here in the united states. that would bring jobs in manufacturing work here from japan, that would be good news in a bad economy. it looks a little bit like a minivan but smaller. honda has been surprised by how many americans are buying this. they originally designed it for the japanese market. no final decision, but we'll watch. congressional leaders may be getting closer to extending the home buyer tax credit, that $8,000 tax credit. we'll see in what shape, if it's more money, less money. the white house has been saying, hey, just how much is this going to cost? more than a million home buyers have qualified for the credit, although i saw a headline this morning that the irs has opened

leads they have but nothing has turned up this little girl. it's obviously a very nervous time for family members as they're thinking about this little girl. deana thompson said her daughter has never run off before. she made a note that she is a twin and that the twin is obviously lost without the little girl. her name is summer thompson. just days after one of their feem mates was killed, the university of connecticut football team had an emotional return to the practice field. the season does not stop even though something awful has happened, rafer. >> that's right. somehow the kids need to find the streblg to move forward. tuesday the team returned to the field to try to get ready for saturday's game against west virginia. beforehand, howard's parents had this moment with the team. well, in the next half hour we'll have more on that. sorry. we'll also have the yankees who have a new secret weapon, kate hudson. i'll explain later.

detectives say that thompson was walking home with her sister and friends but ran ahead after they had a fight. today the fbi releases the latest addition to their most wanted list. three new people will make the top ten this week. we told you last half hour about ravelo. agents say he's a texas hit man for a drug cartel. another man with ties to mexico just made the list as well. >> that's right. joe sigh enz, the fbi saying he is trafficking drugs across the border, but he first got on their radar back in 1998 when with he allegedly killed two rivals of his gang. saenz was out of sight for a decade but at least spotted him on surveillance last year at a murder scene. >> if you look at the video, he's rubbing his hands before he goes in the house and he's smiling. he looks like he really enjoys what he does. he enjoys killing people. >> well, mad to the gang-related

snow. they're out there. here's what it looks like. look at the red shaded counties right there. 10 to 18 inches of snow toward the lower parts of colorado, northern new mexico, 4 to 8 inches around colorado springs. those are the advisories. that's the winter storm aspect of this storm. on the front side it's all rain, going to be heavy at times. here's what it looks like around amarillo, showers coming in around the northern part of the panhandle, stretching into the oklahoma panhandle. will all that rain is going to move on into dallas, already there by ft. worth. one to four inches of rain over the next couple of days all stretching into georgia by sometime friday. that's the path of this storm on the other side of the country, the pacific northwest, seattle looking at clouds and rain for most of the day. here is a live shot of this. still dark, but you are going to see rain off and on with a temperature only in the mid-50s. 58 degrees at the high with rain today, couple of delays at the airport probably, too. had to snap my fingers at adam.

students do need that. there was one little bit of good news in this report. it's that more people are qualifying for some kind of help. so that could be a grant, tex benefit. that's helping, but not that much. of course, i've always said i'm going to try to keep you to date on what's happening with the possible extension on unemployment benefits. you haven't heard me talk about it for a while because it's been stuck in the senate. this is just update to tell you it's stuck. by some accounts it's because republicans want to tack a number of amendments on to the bill including one with about a.c.o.r.n. the problem is this version isn't supposed to be retroactive. anybody who loses the benefits while the politicians dijer, they won't be able to get any of these extensions whatsoever. the current senate plan is 14 more weeks of benefits for everybody and then if you live in a state with high unemployment, you'd get an extra six weeks on top of that. it does mean, though, that some are qualifying for more than a

a man described as a ruthless killer is the latest edition to the top ten most waned list. he's officially wanted for racketeering, but is also responsible for dozens of murders and assaults, plus drug trafficking and extortion.

richard lui joins us now. what makes him more dangerous than other murder suspects? >> he is a leader of the gang in el paso, texas and officials say he rose to power last year by kill tg guy he replaced. he also has strong ties to the drug cartel across the border. agents say he does their dirty work, killing their enemies in exchange for drugs which he then sells in mexico and the united states. the fbi thinks he's hiding with his wife and children in a mexican neighborhood controlled by his gang. the agent who's been tracking him says he lays low and is well protected. >> he has bodyguards, he has armored vehicles to protect him from you know, rival gangs and also rival cartels. >> now, authorities think he also drastically changed his

that tripled. shares are up 4.5%. we have financials to talk about, too. different story. morgan stanley posted its first quarterly profit in a year thanks to strength in its investment banking unit. wells fargo hit a record of more than $3 billion, but there are underlying problems. morgan commercial real estate business losing money. wells says losses from bad loans climbed to $5 billion. and sun microsystems says it will cut 3,000 positions over the next year because of the deal to buy rival, oracle. talk about jobs, job losses, we often talk about detroit. one reason why is that brand romance is gone. it's been gone for a long time. one company find that is only about 20% of car shoppers stayed

he's also trying to improve tomorrow. he's part of a new medical school with a new program. he says he's teaching students that health care is more than medicine. it's about people. >> you can use your position for a lot more things than you think to help people. and you'll have very nice cars. the ones with the fastest cars can help the poor the quickest. >> reporter: this summer, he was presented with the presidential medal of freedom from president obama. it's the nations highest civilian honor. then, it was back to work, far from the white house. >> it looks pretty normal. >> reporter: on this day, he and his team were trying to make her feel better, free of charge. he thinks it's gastritis, an inflammation, not cancer. for now, the news is good.
