let's begin with the story we have been following for three days now. florida authorities are looking for a missing florida girl in a georgia landfill. somer thompson disappeared while walking home from school. investigators are checking the landfill near georgia. they're looking for her body. no word yet what led anymore the them there but somer's mom talked about the last time she set eyes on her daughter. >> i did her hair for her. i can't remember if i told her i loved her. i went to work and told them to have a good day. she wasn't feeling well. i told her just to try to go to school. if you need me, call me. can you imagine? officers have expanded their search in the orange park area near jacksonville. they say they have interviewed

dozens of known sex offenders in a five-mile radius of their home. volunteers scour the woods and officials say they need one single break in this case. they expect to update us later this afternoon on the search. we'll bring it live right here. keep it on hln. another story from another mom. the mother of missing virginia tech student morgan harrington said she was excited about going to see that concert in virginia. she helped her pick out her concert outfit. we're talking about 20-year-old harrington and some of her girlfriends went to see this heavy metal band. that was saturday night. the last time her friends saw her they said it was right around 8:40 p.m. local time. last night harrington's mother talked to our own nancy grace about the time she spent with her daughter just before she vanished. >> ms. harrington, thank you for being with us. >> thank you so much for letting us come on and put morgan's information out there. i appreciate your time so much.

>> i have a little girl. she's about to turn 2. i cannot imagine, ms. harrington, pouring my heart and soul into her and her brother and then somebody making off with her or her just vanishing like this. you were with her in the hours before she went to the concert. what was her frame of mind? what was she talking about? >> she was excited about the concert. she brought home three outfits she tried on for me. we chose one. she said, mama, it is a rock concert so this probably is not what you would choose. is this one okay? you know, it was cute. she was covered. i said that one will do fine. you know, we're pretty close. i was excited for her. you know, you have to give your kids wings. >> even the band metallica posted an appeal for information

for her on their own website. friends even fellow concert goers started facebook pages to try to find her. nancy grace will join us at the top of the hour to talk all about these late breaking developments in the search for both morgan harrington and little somer thompson. that's happening in less than an hour. 2:00 eastern time right here on hln "news and views." definitely stick around for that. also new here today, florida police say misty croslin was robbed monday night while she was trying to buy illegal drugs. she was baby sitting haleigh cummings the night the child disappeared back in february. croslin was one of the three people robbed at an apartment complex and one of the three told officers they had driven to the complex to buy illegal drugs. croslin and haleigh's dad divorced just last week a couple months after getting married. so many kids out there with flu like symptoms stayed out sick that a chicago area high school had to shut down. there are no confirmed cases of

swine flu but more than 900 kids stayed home yesterday. that is nearly half of the school's student body. the school in st. charles will not reopen until monday at the earliest. the high school held the homecoming game and dance last weekend and that's why officials think the illness spread to so many kids. working out can be a terrific way to stay close with your family. susan hendricks has more in today's health minute. >> reporter: when deana's doctor prescribed exercise to strengthen her bones, fitness is a family affair. she and her three children work out together burning calories and learning discipline of tae kwon do. she's noticed changes in her son and daughters. >> i believed it helped them tremendously physically and it

here's a story we want to talk to you about. a 37-year-old man with muscular dystrophy is appealing a ruling that allows his insurance company to cancel the coverage that's keeping him alive. here he is. ian pearl uses his wheelchair and needs a breathing tube to survive. his medical treatment costs $1 million every year. his father's policy with guardian insurance included home nursing care for life. in a money saving move here, guardian decided to discontinue coverage against plans where claims were the highest. most costly. plans the company referred to as

dogs. pearl sued to keep his coverage but lost that fight that means come december 1st he'll lose his benefits, something he calls a death sentence. >> people ask why, why do i need this sort of coverage? why do i need this sort of assistance? they do for me what i cannot do for myself, which is everything. >> guardian reported $447 millions in profits last year. investment income more than $1.5 billion. this brings us to our views question of the day. want to start with e-mails and then go to callers. james sent an e-mail that said --

in boston federal authorities say they uncovered a terrorist plot. a 24-year-old massachusetts man arrested last year in connection with this very probe now faces even more serious charges. his name is tarek mehanna accused of conspireing to kill, kidnap, maim or injure people in foreign countries that includes u.s. military personnel in iraq. prosecutors say the plot didn't get very far thankfully. >> alleged following the events of september 11, 2001, this group believed that carrying out attacks in areas like pakistan was not feasible for them and travel there had become more difficult. it's alleged that mehanna was involved in exploring other options like shooting or killing

one or two specific members of the executive branch of the united states government. >> prosecutors say mehanna and his conspirators plans to attack a mall were foiled when they wouldn't buy automatic weapons. police say they may have stopped a columbine like attack. a 15-year-old new york boy is in a psychiatric hospital for allegedly plotting to attack his former high school. investigators found gasoline, fuses and a machete and he tried to buy an assault rifle. >> parents don't know what's going on in that child's room unfortunately. >> he must be very troubled. >> police say he planned the attack for next april 20th exactly 11 years after the columbine high school killings in colorado. here's something you probably didn't know so i'll tell you. health insurance companies are exempt from federal antitrust laws but if top senate democrats get their way, they may not be much longer. senate democrat leaders announce

a bill that would revoke the industry's exemption. it would mean greater federal regulation for the health insurance industry. insurers trade group calls it a political ploy to distract attention from the issue of rising health care costs. a little girl speaking of health care denied health insurance for being too little. the her parents told affiliate kmgh in denver that she's perfectly healthy. here she is. she's 2 years of age. she weighs 22 pounds. united health care says she doesn't weigh enough. it says most insurers have guidelines and standards are based upon the cdc and other medical sources but her parents were floored. >> just because a child is above the 95th percentile or below the 5th percentile doesn't mean they're unhealthy. it means they're a different body type. >> what we want to see is insurance companies have legitimate reasons for denying coverage.

>> the girl is now insured through a government program and united health care says besides height and weight guidelines it looks at medical treatments and in this case here the girl is being treated for an active gag reflex. united health care also says they reconsider cases if the child shows steady growth after treatment. did you eat breakfast this morning? like the sugary cereal? how does a box of sugary cereal end up with label calling it a smart choice? fda officials say they will crackdown on misleading food labels. the food industry started putting smart choice labels on that may not be nutritious. the fda is developing nutritional standards and says products would have to meet its standards before labeled as healthy or smart choices. take a close look at this video with me. this is video of a man -- there he went thank goodness. nearly flattened by a bus in

the problem causes interruptions in breathing that can increase fatigue during the day. the ntsb says sleep apnea has been found to be a factor in accidents. the fda and other transportation agencies say they are working on discussing fatigue problems. a jet coming into atlanta landed on a taxiway instead of a runway monday night. if another plane had been there, a crash could have been catastrophic. the faa is investigating this. the delta flight was carrying 194 people and declared a medical emergency and was given permission to land on a different runway but it landed on a taxiway that runs parallel to a runway. delta says both pilots have been removed from flight duty until the investigation is complete. a man who relies on a service dog to get around is running into trouble here. arthur schwartz is an iraq war veteran with no car and every time he boards a bus he is bracing for a fight. this is one of the stories that's getting a lot of

attention on our website, cnn.com. let's talk to melissa long about that. i thought if you have a need for a service dog it shouldn't be a problem. >> whether or not it's a visible need is the issue. the fight you mention that this gentleman gets involved in every day is all around his dog. the name pearl. his 3-year-old boxer. he relies on this boxer to help with his disability. his disability is post-traumatic stress disorder. you can't see this disability. service dogs are allowed on miami-dade buses but he has trouble boarding because his disability isn't a visible one. he suffers from ptsb. one of his duties was to identify american bodies. his anxiety is part of the reason he doesn't drive and relies on public transit. bus drivers make it very difficult to hop on board. >> got on a bus to go to the va,

the swine flu vaccine you may have to wait. the cdc says production is behind schedule. you probably won't get it until mid november. you should take precautions to prevent spreading h1n1. the latest information on swine flu is it is hitting kids and young adults the hardest. more than half of the hospitalizations were people 24 and younger. deaths from swine flu seem to be concentrated among the young. >> this is dramatically different than what we see with seasonal flu. with seasonal flu 90% of fatalities occur in people 65 and over. it is reversed here. nearly 90% of our fatal kis are occurring in people under 65. this is a chicago area high school. they had to shutd the school

they are searching a land fill near folkstown, georgia. i know that is another state. somer went missing in florida. it is 55 miles to the north of where somer went missing. police want everyone to know they are searching there not because of a tip or a hit by a cadaver dog but because that is typically where the trash in somer's area is taken. they are going there. also at this hour, teams of volunteers are walking arm in arm through the area, through the woods looking for little somer. just 7 years old. she was doing everything right. >> she was with friends, nancy. >> with a group. broad daylight, 2:45 in the afternoon. like a lot of working moms, mom calls home at 3:05 and finds

somer is not there. mom races home and counters a sheriff's deputy en route and reports the child missing and the search kicks off. that is an advantage not a lot of missing children have. that the search kicked off so quickly. we hear delays of days on end before the child is reported missing. this is what i find extremely interesting, richelle. a few days before somer goes missing another girl age 5 from the same neighborhood, there is an attempted abduction on her. she is riding her bike. she's alone. a hispanic female with two males in the back seat try to lure her into the car. your mommy sent me to come get you. she wants me to give you a ride home. they have to be connected, richelle. >> they haven't officially said that, though, right, nancy? they might just be holding back that information? >> i don't have to see the thunderstorm to know it has

rained. if i go outside and women are running by with their raincoats on and men are putting away their umbrellas. i know it has rained. please, richelle, this was a couple of days before somer goes missing. one block away. a 5-year-old girl similar to somer attempted abduction. a good samaritan intervened and saved that little girl's life. >> nancy, we have been paying close attention to what somer's mother is going through. i want to play some of that now. >> i did her hair for her in the morning, put it up in a pony tail. i can't even remember if i told her i loved her. i went to work and told them to have a good day. she wasn't feeling well and i told her just try to go to school. if you need me, call me. >> wow, nancy.

that brings this home for people that might not pay tension, they might think this is another missing kid. you have to stop and pay attention to what this is doing to families. look at her. >> it is tearing them up. as a victim of violent crime myself it brings back horrible, horrible memories of those first minutes and hours when you learn something has gone terribly wrong with the one that you love the most. this mother is in hell. police, sheriff, volunteers, everyone has joined together to find this child. i have to give you the horrible statistic. that most abducted children are dead within hours. and, yes, richelle, there are exceptions. elizabeth smart just to name one. there are many, many exceptions to that rule. but they are the exception. >> you reached out to another mother as well.

we have just learned that authorities are looking for signs of a missing northern florida girl r in a land fill in georgia. 7-year-old somer thompson disappeared monday. she was just walking home from school. she was with other children. investigators are searching through this land fill near folkstown, georgia. where trash from somer's neighborhood is usually taken. this morning somer's mom talked about the last time she saw her daughter. >> i did her hair for her in the
