so many republicans joining with democrats in the senate to support legislation that would mean 14 more weeks of unemployment checks and six more on top of that in states with high unemployment. look, this isn't law yet. you can't call your unemployment office yet and try to file for an extension or something like that. but it means this is taking a big step forward, bringing it closer to reality. it should come to a physical senate vote, and then it will be reconciled with the house version. we will see what happens but keeping track of these. i know there are light ofa lot of people counting on them. airlines are looking to fill seats and coming up with cheap airfare, the kind you haven't seen in years. southwest is having a airfare sale $25 for a one-way ticket. you know you never pay that fare. that's the marketing number. you do the math and taxes and fare, round trip about $90. still very cheap not for the holidays of the some of the other airlines are coming up with some of their own sales or these little pop-up sales.

together. i used to brag i was the only world champion never divorced. i figured no matter how bad it got we'd get through it. it got to the point where everything was so negative. we couldn't be friends with the neighbors, i couldn't have people over, it got to the point where i got sick and tired of being sick and tired. a few years before the divorce i started praying to be happy. it got to the point where it couldn't go on any more. >> hulk almost sounds like he is still heart broken. leslie, there hasn't been a lot of sympathy for him. are you having any for him about now? >> i don't know. i went from being cynical to feeling sappy because yes i do feel for him. i really do. marriage is a lot of work, especially if you have cameras in your household. especially if you're a celebrity. you know i think the neat thing about hogan being so open and yes, a book deal does coincide or book selling with this, is that he's a big tough guy, a big strong guy, and even you know
11:28 am
rich people, celebrities have problems in relationship, the same problems that we non-celeb non-rich people do. and big strong guys can feel like not the lions but like mice and made to feel that way by women. >> let me ask you this ken. you think the sympathy factor as i mentioned has waned for hulk hogan with all of the drama when his wife and son and all of that. you think speaking out like this he's going to get people back? >> yeah i think hulk has been in the public eye for about 30 years now. he's actually extremely popular very loyal fans. i think he's playing to that fan base with this book, with this interview. he's a very emotional guy. he's an excellent showman and knows how to sell product and is doing it now. >> i want to move on to rosie o'donnell and her bombshell confessions in a new brilliant interview with howard stern on his radio show. rosie confessed her own mother didn't believe that her father was molesting her from the age of 6. now, in the interview rosie says
11:29 am
she had proof even back then and it's really painful to listen and hear rosie admitting this stuff. take a listen. >> well although i had a tremendous amount of urinary tract infections i constantly needed to be on sulphur medication as a child. when i would go to the doctor the doctor would look and say to me do you touch yourself? i don't know if you know you have children, but that doesn't start for a child at that age. >> she also told howard she never got into much detail before because it was painful for her siblings to hear this stuff. as a radio host you know how brilliant howard is, creates the safe space for celebrities to say things in the studio. separate from that why do you think she is saying all of this right now? >> i think she feels safe to say it. not just with howard. she's at a point in her life she can talk about it and i think she realizes as a parent herself and as she ages as a woman it's
11:30 am
something she has to do. there are so many children that are abused and molested by family members and you know it's so sad, a.j., how many parents don't believe them when the perpetrator is in the family. i hear from people like this on my radio show all the time. and one parent won't believe them. >> i always say, hearing people like rosie speaking out, can certainly help other people who may deal with it and don't want to confront it. hopefully it will do some good. i'm sure she'll do that with her radio show. she confessed to calling oprah winfrey in a panic after the whole tragic scene happened at columbine high school. >> at the height of my columbine insanity i called oprah winfrey. it was an error in judgment. she was kind i'll give you that. i don't know that i was coherent. and i was just saying we can do it together -- >> we can change the world. >> right. she's home in chicago going who is this girl and why the hell did she -- how did she get my
11:31 am
number? >> i love her for being candid. at the time rosie had her talk show. two of the most influential women on tv we hear rosie admitting she doesn't always have it together. is that why people continue to love rosie? she shows you rosie warts and all. >> i think it's an attraction. her blog has been one of the most read celebrity blogs because she is so honest. i think at the end of the day what we're seeing is rosie o'donnell, 47 years old, she has children going through what she call as crossroads in her relationship with kelli carpenter, saying you know what i'm going to be myself. i'm sick of hiding, trying to be perfect for everyone and letting it hang out and it's refreshing. >> going to make for great radio when her show begins. i thank you. as we move on tonight, is steve phillips a sex addict? the sportscaster was fired for having an affair with a much younger co-worker now headed to he hab. is he a sex addict or hiding out

11:36 am
week. >> you know what bothered me. i was watching i think it was showbiz today. they had who's whatever notorious celebrity of the week. is it hulk hogan for his breakup with the family and they had this guy as the celebrity. and he's not a celebrity, he's a guy who broke the law. he's not even -- you don't have to be on, you only have to think about a reality show to be a celebrity now. >> we appreciate your watching. one thing it's obviously called "showbiz tonight." provocative celebrity too, jay. steve phillips confesses he is a sex addict. the fired espn sportscaster is heading to rehab for his sex addiction. these bombshells came one day after we learned espn fired phillips for his scandalous affair with a 22-year-old co-worker and his wife is also giving him the boot. but does steve phillips need a trip to sex rehab? or is this just the latest celebrity excuse to behave
11:37 am
badly? with me in new york, marvet british, also in new york is hila an entertainment journalist. steve phillips' agent confirms he is in rehab. he said it got to the point where he needs help and this was the best way to do it. he also says this to the associated press. steve phillips is not a sleazebag. he's a good guy who just fell off the wagon. all right. plenty of people cheat get caught, face the music. i get that. when a celebrity somebody like steve phillips cheats and more do it and they blame it on sex addiction. dafbd duchovny, am i missing anything or is steve part of a new sex addiction ep dem diddic. >> sex rehab works if you check in before you get caught. so no, this is not a strategy that we're going to buy.
11:38 am
he got caught having sex with someone other than his wife. that doesn't make him a sex addict. it makes him a cheater. >> this may surprise you but i'm no medical expert. you got to hear about steve phillips making this sex addiction claim. >> one of the questions here is when is someone a womanizer and when is someone a sex addict? i don't think we should trivialize sex addiction. i get asked almost every day am i a sex addict. most of the time i say no, you're just a jerk a guy acting out. >> the doctor says sex addiction is pretty rare. steve phillips could be one of the rare cases. i wish him luck in treatment but from what i've seen i have to wonder, if steve might suffer from being both a jerk and an addict? >> he could possibly be afflicted with both of those situations. i mean, he has a history, so it may be a chronic problem that he has. i don't know. i mean, if you're an addict, the
11:39 am
first thing any doctor will tell you is stay away from temptation. he obviously didn't make an effort if the p.a. he has to work with is a hot little chick like that. i'm not giving him credit yet. >> back to the theory about the whole pr strategy. my good friends at "the view" did have plenltty to say. is this more about saving his soul or saving his butt? watch this. >> let me ask you you think he'd be going in there if he hadn't been fired? >> not at all. nobody goes into anything unless they have to. >> marvet you agree with joy. celebrities don't go to rehab unless they have to because it is part of the formula to rehab not only themselves but their careers. >> i agree. if he was taking a proactive approach and decided to check in before he got caught and this became an explosive story we might buy it. he's doing it as reactive to try to save his marriage and his job
11:40 am
and reputation. >> he didn't save the job. i guess he's looking out for the next situation to come along. another story, the victim of the roman polanski sex assault says leave him alone. and leave her alone. it's samantha geimer, who was 13 when polanski drugged her and had sex with her, 31 years ago. she's gone ahead and filed legal papers to try to stop polanski from being extradited and wants the thing dropped. in the legal filing she says that having to relive this nightmare is making her physically ill and she could lose her job because of all of the attention she's getting. don't you think that what she wants should carry some weight here? >> i think it should carry most of the weight. laws are in place to protect victims, and right now she's not being protected. she wants it to go away. this seems like more of an ego thing for the authorities to try and get this guy after 30 some years. >> what do you think, marvet.
11:41 am
almost like she's victimized twice. >> i agree. she wants to not open old wounds, she wants to move past this. she wants -- no one wants their past to haunt their future. and that's clearly what this is doing. she's the victim so i think her voice should be heard. >> it will be interesting to see if they are sensitive to that. i'm no legal expert but the experts will say this is a federal situation and not up to her. thank you guys. appreciate it. it looks like there are going to be plenty of kates for this halloween. yeah sorry to report the kate gosselin wig is a huge seller. kate says that she even thinks it's funny even though she's not going to see money from it. >> tlcp.r. e-mailed me there was one of the hottest wigs of the halloween season was going to be the kate wig. but they don't call it the kate wig because then they would have to give me some of the proceeds so there's nowhere on the package that says my name which
11:42 am
i find very interesting and no i do not benefit from the proceeds. i hear it's back ordered from now till the end of time. somehow i managed to get my hands on one and i'm just hanging onto it for -- i don't know. my reaction, i laughed my head off. that is plain ridiculous. and i hear everywhere there's going to be all of these jon and kates for halloween and there have been in the past. now there is a wig for the there is a wig, like they line up their eight kids in strollers and whatever. i think it is funny. you know it's humorous. i think that it's great that people with laugh at us and with us. >> back ordered until the end of time. i'm laughing right now. you better get your kate wig or order it while it is hot because kate is already thinking what her next hair style will be. michael jackson's movie "this is it" is about to open. it looks like it's going to rake in some big, big bucks. dead celebrities making a living on their iconic images. there is a market worth hundreds of millions a year. >> it is a "showbiz" special

security. >> i haven't been told that yet. i mean this just happened over the weekend. i have to look into that and find out. i can't speak to what the no 2i6motive motives and rationales but from what i'm hearing, the dance was going well people were having fun, that everybody who was there was in the building and they had closed the doors. the situation to be contained. this girl had left so they didn't know that she had returned or came back. we have anticipated it yes. i believe that you have to anticipate any potential problem. and that's something that should have been discussed. >> in addition here 19-year-old former student was arrested trying to flee the scene. as many as two dozen people witnessed the rape and didn't say a thing to police. 21-year-old man accused of killing university of kentucky football player howard is set to be arraigned today on murder and conspiracy charges. john william lomax iii is being
11:52 am
held on $2 million bail. four people have been arrested for their different roles in howard's murder. not a single one of them is a student at the university of connecticut. howard stabbed to death october 18th during a fight just outside of a dance on campus. the entire uconn football team of course, attended his funeral monday in miami. after several delays of low-hanging clouds nasa finally launched its first ares 1-x rocket. it took off from kennedy space center just about 30 minutes ago. here are those pictures. nasa is hoping this rocket will eventually replace its shuttle fleet and help a future missions to the the international space station. the ares is also part of nasa's plan to return to the moon and possibly even mars. tennis legend andre agassi making a stunning confession. he once used crystal meth during the heyday of his career and lied about it. confession coming in a new auto biography.

11:54 am
really all over the country waiting for this documentary to come out. there was so much hype surrounding it. let's talk first about the festivities here in los angeles. we were downtown outside of the nokia theater where it really looked like an award show. i mean, there were chandeliers. you had the fans in the middle, all cheering. many of them had on the glove, the jeweled gloves. people like will smith, jennifer lopez, jennifer love hewitt. they all made their way down the red carpet. everyone wanting a piece of michael jackson on the last footage really his last piece of work, his final days, he was gearing up for the 50 concerts in europe and, you know he never ever made it on to the stage. so to speak. but again, he wowed fans and family and friends alike yesterday. here's a little bit of what we heard from some jackson family members as well as supporters regarding this late superstar. >> it's going to show the humane side to him and to show people
11:55 am
what he was prepared to do. >> it's an important movie to see because even though michael would never want anybody to see him like halfway rehearse but he gave out full out even during rehearsals. >> absolutely nobody downles and it's all michael and unguarded and raw and real and he's beautiful. >> and you know, brooke director and producer addressed some of the criticism that's been levelled at the film, saying that there were possibly body doubles used, some other people saying including family members that this isn't something that michael wouldn't have wanted to world to see, him not at his best rehearsing in fact. but again, last night that really seemed to matter. people really embraced the superstar, the true talent that michael jackson was. and the reviews raved rave all across the board. >> just one quick follow-up since i know you and your producer had the coveted tickets last night. what were your impressions? you really got to see michael jackson kind of raw, right? >> we couldn't stop rocking the
11:56 am
entire time. every jackson song was really a favorite. you would hear "smooth criminal" and say, wow that's my favorite or "billie jean," oh my god, that takes me back. that was pretty amazing. but i think something that my producer and i also spoke about is how candid, how you saw michael jackson in a light you never seen him before. dressed down in sweats. sucking on a lollipop making mistakes. there are parts in this documentary where he says, let me redo that that was my fault. he's such a perfectionist. again, you can see some of the criticism where people are saying maybe michael wouldn't have wanted this out but i think people really appreciate it know that he had a human side as well. >> the film officially out to everyone starting today. >> absolutely. it's going to be shown at cinemas across the country, like this one where we. the screening begins in a couple hours from now. >> good deal kareen wynter live for news l.a. thank you. still to come here. hardware store worker got canned over a button.

12:00 pm
when he wouldn't take the button off. >> as a christian and as a citizen of america you know it's time that we stand up for our country and quit being pushed around by everybody else. >> the pretense that they use to fire him was, oh by the way, your button isn't home depot issued, so therefore, we're going to fire you because it was, you know it's not as easy to say we don't like the fact that you have a bible with you. >> attorney calls it religious discrimination. home depot say it's not company policy, button policy is a way to respect everyone's beliefs and this is our your views question today. i've got a lot of callers on the phone. let's get going. first up dave in nebraska. dave, what do you think first amendment rights or no? >> caller: first amendment rights, yes. this company has pushed it too far. the young man wasn't admonished until he started bringing the bible to work. this company and their beliefs and the way they're acting now,
12:01 pm
do not deserve our money or our support. this young man is definitely, should be -- it's not derogatory. >> dave, you say yes he should be allowed to wear it. got to go. rick, rick calling in from florida. do you agree with dave? >> caller: not at work, no. he's on the job. if you're clocked in it's your you know, job to do whatever the policy states. he's not working at t.i.g. fridays, he's not required to wear flare. i'm pretty sure they don't even let you wear a button like that. frankly, if a jewish person comes in or a muslim person comes in or any other person that doesn't have the exact same opinions or views as that one person it may offend them. when you're at work, you have no right to offend other people. >> it is under company policy, no non-home depot buttons. e-mail from randy says i believe home depot is well
12:02 pm
within their rights to fire him. we live in a secular society and an individual's personal religious beliefs should remain personal. it's always interesting to me regarding persons who belong to conservative christian faiths how they want to be able to put it in your face in the workplace, shopping centers, or any other place they may find themselves. however, when someone who is a wiccan, for example wish toes do the same thing, they are all up in arms. peggy in san diego. peggy, what are your thoughts? >> caller: blatant form of prenlg his and religious discrimination. if they ban that button they have to take off their crosses, cover any tattoos, take off their lanyards that say wwjd, what would jesus do. if you go into home depot, anybody with a digital camera can take pictures of anyone with their aprons they all have buttons all over it. it was a simple form of discrimination because he was reading the bible. and if you're going to ban the bible again, then ban all books.
12:03 pm
>> yes, discrimination. nancy in north carolina nancy do you think he should have been fired? >> caller: no, it's a shame that this man lost his job over what he believed in. this world is kor rupt. christian s do need to take a stand. i'll be pray for this person who fired him. they were wrong. home depot just lost two customers here. >> wow, a lot of people talking about this. again, the question we're asking, should a company's dress code be allowed to infringe with your religious beliefs? call us 1-877-tell. hln. send us an e-mail, cnn.com/hln. or text us, your words and name to hlntv. standard text rates do apply. sarah palin getting money for her upcoming book? nothing necessarily unusual about that. but she's got big bucks even before resigning as governor of alaska.

the shocking reaction among some of the students. >> well, this has really outraged the community here. let me tell you what's going on at the school campus. we were there yesterday and you know, while students are outraged, the talk among some of these students, they're saying that some people are actually blaming the victim saying that she was drunk and that, you know she shouldn't have done that. some people are saying that people used to make fun of her for other various reasons. other students are hearing that and saying, you know how can you blame her. so it's this back and forth. school district officials are really upset that students are reacting like this and actually tonight, there is going to be a community meeting at richmond high school. they're inviting parents to come. they're inviting students to come. and discuss safety. they feel that a school assembly is also needed to address the fact that there were so many witnesses, maybe up to 12 people, who actually stood there and did nothing about it.

that's very bothersome to the administrators here at richmond high school. so that maybe gives you a sense of, you know, people are laying blame, some on the victim, some saying of course not. of course it's not her fault. how can you say that. so i think, though, for the majority of people they are saying this is definitely a heinous crime. they're encouraged that police have been making arrests. and you know this is positive news that police seem to be gaining good leads. >> >>. new information here out of connecticut. the 21-year-old man accused of killing university of connecticut football player jasper howard is set to be arraigned today on murder and con spir vas si charges. john william lomax iii is being held on 2$2 million bail. four men have been arrested in the role of howard's murder. none of them is a student at uconn. howard was stabbed to ded

ares 1-x vehicle lifted off at the kennedy space center here just about 11:30 eastern time. now, the entire flight only lasted just a little over two minutes. the vehicle climbing to 130,000 feet before the first and the second stage separated. it reached nearly mock v, five times the speed of sound. i got to tell you broorkke, it got out of here in a hurry. you can see it in a longer distance as it moved up into the sky. but from everything that they looked at, first blush, it looked like it went perfectly. now, they have 711 sensors on board that vehicle, so now it's up to the science team, the engineering teams from nasa and from atk, the rocket builders go back and look at that data and really see how the vehicle performed.

just looking at it it seemed to go perfectly. separation at about two minutes in. again, at 130,000 feet. the upper stage flying off and then falling into the ocean. the lower stage falling back as well. but on parachutes. that stage will be recovered and can be reused just as the shuttle solid rocket boosters fall back on parachutes and are reused. so a big day for nasa. brooke quickly. one of the reasons why is because the president and his science team have yet to go ahead and give the final stamp of approval on whether the ares rocket is the way they want the u.s. space program to proceed down the road. this really validates the rocket maker and nasa's approach to the future of spaceflight by getting this first launch off so successfully. brooke? >> nasa hoping to prove this technology will work. john zarrella for us at kennedy space center. thank you. fans and celebrities have gotten their first glimpse here at a movie showing of mike gel
