well, hello, hello, hello. it's friday. a perfect weekend for a lot of people. you're probably getting your kids ready right now for the halloween parade. tomorrow is halloween. i'm robin meade. in the news this morning a sixth person is charged in a horrifying attack on a girl outside a homecoming dance. one suspect told a family member why he watched the attack and did nothing to stop it. democrats say they have their final version of a health care bill and the house could vote on it pretty quickly. wait until you hear the potential price tag. and a church has been transformed into a little slice of hell.

it's a controversial move, but it's one the pastor says he hopes will pay off with a powerful message. a church. all right. but first, happening right now, an intense search for nine people missing off the coast of southern california. they disappeared after the collision of a coast guard plane and marine helicopter. it happened a little after 7:00 local time last night. 25 miles east of san clemente island. weather conditions are good but that survivors would still be at risk. >> just off the coast 64, 65 degrees. how long you can survive in that is going to depend on your body type, what you're wearing. so i don't know all the individuals involved in this and what they were wearing but 65-degree water is cold, much colder than your body temperature so hypothermia is a threat. >> here is what we know about the crash.

it happened and involved a coast guard c-130 with seven people onboard. and a marine corps ah-1 chopper carrying two people. another pilot reported seeing a fireball near the crash site. and debris has been spotted in the water. dentists, pharmacists, emts and other health care workers will be able to get the h1n1 vaccine shots in new york state. that is part of a state of emergency governor david p paterson declared yesterday. h1n1-related cases have grown in new york state. 75 people have died. take a look at this early taste of winter in colorado. this is part of a storm hitting several western states. hundreds of schools and businesses were closed in denver yesterday because there was so much snow. it's also creating problems on the road obviously. >> it's important people know they're not out of the woods yet. as the roads give the appearance of starting to clear off, they

again? >> eastern colorado, parlts of kansas and nebraska. >> all right. thank you. police have made another arrest in the gang attack on a california high schoolgirl outside her homecoming dance. there are six suspects in custody. four were in court yesterday for the first time and three of them wore bulletproof vests. one suspect's aunt says they only watched the assault and only told her he didn't do anything to stop it because he was afraid he would get beaten up as well. the juveniles are being charged as adults and could get life in prison if they are convicted. police won't say whether any of the witnesses recorded the attack on their cell phones. the house could vote as soon as next week on health care reforms. democrats unveiled their final version yesterday which includes a public option. speaker nancy pelosi says they would finance the $894 billion plan with a tax on the wealthy and cost cutting and medicare and medicaid. pelosi says that the bill will cover an additional $36 million

a jury awarded more than $16 million to the family of a woman who died after she drank a lot of water in a radio station contest. jennifer strange died of acute water intoxication in 2007, more than a dozen bottles of water in three hours trying to win a video game system. the challenge was to see who could drink the most water without going to the bathroom. >> we're gratified with what the jury did. the number that they determined is by definition a fair and reasonable number. >> the defense has argued that the woman's death was unforeseeable. the sacramento radio station fired ten employees after the incident. the jury did not find the parent company negligent. a company rep would not say if they plan to appeal, but he did tell "the sacramento bee" they respect the jury's decision. what halloween character does your boss remind you of? one in five workers said glennda the good witch but villains made

this is difficult but a jury heard a 7-year-old boy's shocking taped interview describes how his own mother attacked him and his 2-year-old brother. michelle kehoe is accused of slashing had her son's throat. her 2-year-old son seth died. police say they found her other son shawn injured in a pond in the family van. this is what he told police as his mother listened in court. >> was mom still there or was she gone? >> she was hurting my baby brother. >> did you try to talk to mom? >> i just hopped into the van and locked the doors. >> police say that michelle kehoe did try to kim herself but she told police a stranger abducted the family and tried to kill her and her sons. kehoe has pled not guilty. her lawyers say they plan to use insanity as a defense. one of the most hated phillies among yankees fans took

as many as nine people are missing off the coast of california right now. they disappeared last night in a crash between a coast guard plane and a marine corps helicopter. another pilot reported seeing a fireball near where the aircraft collided. the navy and coast guard are both searching for survivors. house democrats say that 96% of americans would have health insurance if their version of a reform bill passes. speaker nancy pelosi unveiled the nearly 2,000-page bill yesterday. now she said that she would give lawmakers at least 72 hours to read it before a vote. a week ago president obama

declared a national h1n1 emergency. well now new york's governor wants one for his state. david paterson says it's not the cause of panic but it will keep hospitals from being overrun with swine flu patients and allow other health care workers like dentists and pharmacists to give the vaccine to administer it. those are some of the headlines we're following this morning. i wanted to say, hi, how are u you? i'm robin meade. you know, the san francisco/oakland bay bridge could be open in time for the morning rush this hour. crews worked overnight to finish emergency repairs. the bridge was shut down tuesday. california transportation officials say that pieces of steel including a major beam fell onto the road. drivers are still being encouraged, however, to take an alternate route in case repairs get behind schedule. the birther movement got rejected again. a federal judge has thrown out their latest lawsuit. now in case you're not entirely up on this, birthers believe that president obama wasn't born in the united states and,

therefore, shouldn't be allowed to be president. the president, though, does have a birth certificate that shows he was born in hal hawaii. a high school football player inspired by his mom's battle with breast cancer did something special and here's rafer weigel with that story. good morning. good morning to you, robin. kyle apperton's mother was diagnosed with the disease six years ago. her battle was an emotional one. at the time he was too young to help. what he has done recently makes him our true champion this week. the senior convinced most everyone to wear pink at their home game. there he is right there the players from both teams wore pink arm bands, pink socks, even folks in the stands were wearing pink jerseys all in honor of his mother and other breast cancer survivors and also with the help of the charity swing for life raised about $10,000 through ravels raffles and auctions. >> and showing what one person

can be when he rallies. this is incredible. a reporter in arkansas was talking about why people should not drive through rising floodwaters. this was a live report so imagine it. and this happens right behind her. right behind him. a woman's suv went under. look at this. cameras from the affiliate caught one man jumping in after her and then the fire department showed up and helped him get the woman out safely. so this is live tv. as he was doing a report about it. isn't that something? a hair mayor man -- thankfully everyone was okay. a maryland man could not be there to see the birth of his first baby because they were afraid he might have h1n1. so doctors booted him from his wife's delivery room. so the couple got creative. the dad-to-be coached his wife through her delivery from home using a speaker phone. still, they were heartbroken that he couldn't be there. >> at the moment i had to leave, she got teary eyed. we also had masks on our face so

up to north platte, you pull the picture out just a bit and it's all rain and heavy. shreveport yesterday. louisiana, 5.3 inches of rain. now just a 24-hour period, more rain for the morning. now it's moving in to memphis and continues to stretch all the way up through the great lakes to st. louis, too. you get up to the north further. the rain begins to spread out a bit over northern parts of michigan and the u.p. but the real heavy slug of moisture is now rotating out of lake michigan in towards central mish be mish and it is raining fast. that's about an inch to an inch and a half per hour, the next four hours, flooding concerns are out there. the flash flood warnings is all the areas we have in red. the flood warnings, light green, dark shaded green flash flood watches. moves to the mid-atlantic by the weekend. let me show you video from denver. officially denver so far the latest report, 12 inches of snow. you can see what it looks like here. pine cliff, colorado, about 25 miles to the northwest of denver itself. 46 inches of snow.

also an update for you on the dry wall from china which thousands of u.s. homeowners say has damaged their homes, made them sick or even both. the consumer products safety commission now says it cannot yet establish a clear link to health problems or corrosion in homes. in the past the dry wall was found to sustain sulfur compounds as well as substances that give off a rotten egg odor. the government says it needs to study the matter some more before it considers a recall or a ban. and during the height of the housing boom, materials were in short supply. the dry wall was abundant and cheap. that's why we're seeing more and more of it in the u.s. >> can you imagine you have this new house and it smells like rotten eggs. >> your dream home. >> and the walls are corroding stuff. the new girlfriend of reality tv dad jon gosselin dropped a bombshell and it's not helping with his divorce from kate. here's "showbiz tonight's" brooke anderson. >> hi, robin. good morning to you. coming up on "showbiz tonight"
