over warrantless wiretapping is threatening to expose ongoing intelligence work. holder wants the lawsuit thrown out. the first time the white house has tried to envoke the state secrets privilege. the bush administration envoked the privilege to get numerous lawsuits thrown out following the september 11 attacks. talks between afghan president hamid karzai and the man challenging him for his job have broken down. christiane amanpour who appears on cnn learned that karzai's oh poend, abdullah abdullah will likely boycott the runoff. the former ambassador to afghanistan predicts it country will have a power-sharing deal between karzai and abdullah. california officials say they're going to try to reopen the san francisco-oakland bay bridge on monday. but they say they can't guarantee it, even though they'll be working the whole weekend to repair it. the bridge was closed on tuesday after three steel pieces fell off of it in the middle of rush

hour, right in to traffic. they crashed right in to the laebs and injured one person. the bridge carries about 280,000 vehicles per day. so, it's halloween as we mentioned. a lot of people are going out trick or treating. it's exciting. but is there going to be good weather for all of that trick or treating going on. reynolds wolf joins us with a look at the forecast. it happens to depend on where you're going to be. on the eastern seaboard, there's going to be the frontal boundary and area of low pressure. west, dry conditions, warm in the desert southwest, you get to the pacific northwest, scattered showers are going to be a possibility. in terms of high temperatures today, you can expect the highs to get in the 60s, atlanta, memphis. 70s for washington, d.c., boston. 61 in philly. 50 for denver. you get to halloween night, it gets interesting. the rain is going to stay for

karzai and abdullah. california officials say they are going to try to reopen the san francisco-oakland bay bridge on monday. but they say they can't guarantee it, even though they'll be working the whole weekend to repair it. the bridge was closed on tuesday after three steel pieces fell off of it in the middle of rush hour, right in to trafficment. it crashed right into a person. the bridge carries 280,000 vehicles per day. there will be plenty of costumes and candy to go around tonight. but parents, what do you do with all of the chocolate and sugar at the end of the night. >> most of them probably get a couple of pounds of candy. it's crazy. it's absolutely insane if they are allowed to put all of that inside of them. >> reporter: well, one dentist wants your kids to trade in their treats for cash. and it's all for a good cause.

nine banks part of the same holding company have shut their doors. that brings a total of 115 banks closed by the fed so far this year. an average of ten banks have failed every month in 2009. but that is still nowhere close to 1989's record high of 534 bank closures, which took place during the savings & loan crisis. a tanker here has stopped leaking oil in to san francisco bay. the leak started yesterday morning when a fuel line ruptured on a panamanian flight tanker in a fuel transfer. san francisco's mayor says hundreds of gallons of oil have spilled into the bay. officials are telling people not to swim in the bay and to avoid local beaches. the coast guard says it looks like the oil spill was caused by a mechanical failure. anna nicole smith's former boyfriend and two doctors are going on trial. a california judge ruled yesterday there is enough

evidence to try them. they're accused of conspiring to illegally give her controlled substances and of supplying drugs to an addict. but boyfriend, howard stern, and the doctors say they didn't know she was addicted and they were trying to help her. they pleaded nopgt. their arraignment is scheduled for december 11. hey, do you take a really good look at your bills before you pay them? if you do, you could find some hidden fees that really add up. as gerri willis reports, those gotcha fees are everywhere. from cell phones to cable service. to credit cards and banks. to airline travel and hotel stays. experts say the average american is spending close to $1,000 a year extra on hidden fees and surcharges, a nickel here, a dime there. >> that's real money. married couples, we're talking about $2,000. that's a nice chunk of change to

and the average fee for a hotel stay is close to $25, roughly $95 a year per person. bjorn hanson is a professor for nyu's tische center for hospitality. he says the hotels have gotten more creative in what he calls it surprise fee. >> hotels in 2008 collected $1.75 billion on fees and surcharges. some of the fees that surprise the guests the most would be an early departure fee, a cancellation fee, mini barre stocking charges. luggage or baggage holding fees. >> reporter: some hotels go as far as charging resort amenity fees for towels and some urban hotels charge a daily fee for receiving faxes. the best way to avoid being surprised by hidden fee and surcharges is to ask up front before every transaction, what's the final cost i'm going to pay. according to the report, consumers had the most success

california officials say they are going to try to reopen the san francisco oakland bay bridge on monday. but they say they can't guarantee it even though they'll be working the whole weekend to repair it. the bridge was closed on tuesday after three steel pieces fell off of it in the middle of rush hour right into traffic. they crashed right into the lanes and injured one person. the bridge carries about 280,000 vehicles per day. oh, there'll be plenty of costumes and candy to go around tonight. but parents, what do you do with all of that he has chocolate and sugar at the end of the night? >> most of them probably get a couple of pounds of candy. and it's crazy. it's absolutely insane if they are allowed to put all of that inside them. >> one dentist wants your kids to trade in their treats for cash. and it's all for a good cause.

nine banks all part of the same major holding company have shut their doors. that brings the total to 115 banks closed by the fed so far this year. an average of 10 banks have failed every month in 2009. but that is still nowhere close to the -- to 1989's record high of 534 bank closures which took place during the savings and loan crisis. a tanker here has stopped leaking oil into san francisco. the leak started yesterday morning when a fuel line ruptured on a panamanian tanker during a fuel transfer. san francisco's mayor says hundreds of gallons of oil have spilled into the bay. people are not supposed to swim in the bay and avoid local beaches. looks like the oil spill was caused by a mechanical failure. anna nicole smith's former

boyfriend and two doctors are going on trial. a california judge ruled yesterday that there is enough evidence to try them. they're accused of conspireing to illegally give her controlled substances and supplying drugs to an addict. but boyfriend howard stern and the doctors say they didn't know she was addicted and they were trying to help her. they pleaded not guilty. their arraignment is scheduled for december 11th. hey, do you take a really good look at your bills before you pay them? well, if you do, you could find hidden fees that really add up. as gerri willis reports, those gotcha fees are everywhere. >> from cell phones to cable service. to credit cards and banks. to airline travel and hotel stays. experts say the average american is spending close to $1,000 a year extra on hidden fees and surcharges, a nickel here, a dime there.

saturday, i'm natasha curry, thanks so much for watching hln news and views. a man hunt is now underway in cleveland, ohio, for this man, 50-year-old anthony sowell. on thursday, they went to arrest sowell on charges of assault and rape. but when they went to his home found two decomposing bodies up stairs and a freshly dug grave in the basement with another body in it. police searched in and around the house and found three more bodies. none of the bodies have been identified, but people who live in the neighborhood are worried about who was buried in sowell's home. >> i pray to god it's not my cousin. and if it is my cousin, i'm sorry. >> sowell was convicted for a 1989 rape and served 15 years in prison. well, the stock market's took a dive that we haven't seen in a while. all three major indices went down. and the dow had one of the biggest one-day drop in half a

year. the consumer spending went down in september, the first time in five months. at the same time, personal incomes remain flat, some economists worry the recovery could run out of steam if consumers start spending less. president obama is getting more advice as he considers his next move in afghanistan. the president met yesterday with a joint chiefs of staff and other top military advisers. this comes in the deadliest month for u.s. forces there. sources tell cnn, each branch of the military got a chance to explain the impact of sending more troops. the army and marine corps have expressed concerns that it would be tougher to give troops promise time at home with their family. as the obama administration considers itself strategy in afghanistan, a state department official there resigned in protest of the war. and matthew hoh said he'd been getting a lot of support for his decision. in a letter he said he was leaving quote because i fail to see the value and worth of
