bodies in his basement, pack ya backyard and living rool. police found four more corpses and a skull at anthony sowell's home yesterday .firefighters will search the walls and floors of the home. police spoke with nancy grace about the investigation. >> well, we're working right now with the cuyahoga county coroner's office to identify the victims. we've asked people in the community to come forward with any information on missing persons. >> sowell is expected to be in court in about 90 minutes from now. as a registered sex offender, he was required to check in regularly with police, but officers didn't have the right to go into his house, but they would stop by to make sure he was there. >> deputy goes up, knocks on the door. if the offender answers the door or whoever answers the door, says, yes, the sex offender does live here, he does reside here, he does sleep here. that's all that we are allowed to do by law.

more on our top story. republicans may be on the come back trail. the gop is expected to sweep two key gubernatorial elections in new jersey cnn projects that chris christie defeated jon corzine there. then we take to you virginia where cnn projects that bob mcdonnell crushed creigh deeds. it may not be a direct referendum on president obama's entire presidency to date, but it's a punch that leaves a bit of a bruce for the democrats. the president came up short after personally campaigning hard for did democrats in new jersey and virginia. and it may signal trouble for democrats in the 2010 midterm elections. on the upside, exit polls show majority of voters in both states say president obama's job performance was not a factor in their vote. now, the virginia loss may sting the most for the obama camp.

cnn projects bob mcdonnell trounced his opponent about 59% to 41%, almost 20 points difference there. last year president obama was the first democrat to carry virginia in more than four decades. now, he won over independent voters there. mcdonnell won independents by more than 20 points, so they're watching that statistic certainly. now, republican victorieses that may being tempering -- or may be temper tempered, rather, by the lig loss of a congressional seat? upstate new york. the race there turned into a vicious internal battle. democrat bill owe weapons beat conservative doug hoffman. they had big problems with hoffman's republican opponent, that was dee dde scozzafava. she brew from the race on saturday and endorsed owens.

other important elections. the gop swept two key gubernatorial races. in new jersey, chris christie defeated jon corzine and in virginia, bob mcdonnell crushed creigh deeds. and richard lui i is hooking at the wider implications of last night's election results. >> good morning. one helping that folks will be watching here especially the gop, weak voter turnout among younger folks. remember in 2008, young people turned out in throngs for president obama. not so last night when you take a look at the data. some new jersey's race, for instance, the age group of 18 to 29 made up just 9% of the vote, down from 17% in 2008. hen in virginia, another example for you there, 10% of the electorate was age 18 to 29 there, too. >> interesting. okay. so how might these republican wins affect president obama? >> the wins may have a big

impact on president obama's ambitious policy agenda that we've been telling our viewers about as he tries to push through a massive health care bill. there's a climate change bill that's also looming on the horiz horizon, too. very large considerations this. the president may have more trouble rallying moderate democratses to get on board for those two items. david gergen talks about this. >> it may give pause to some in the house of representatives that the president is counting on with regard to health care, the environmental legislation called cap and trade, and a whole host of other things. they may be running a little more scared tonight than they were this morning. >> so was president obama watching the results? reportedly he did not plan on watching election returns last night. the white house senior adviser saying that president obama was more likely to watch the chicago bulls basketball game than politics. of course his hometown team there. >> and he's a big basketball fan. all right. thanks so much.

there have been a lot of reports about some of these cars, toyotas, lexuss, just they suddenly speed up. and that includes the pictures you see here before a fiery crash that killed a california highway patrol officer, his family. the lexus they were in sped up to more than 120. they couldn't get to slow down. at first the blame was just the matt, but thinking that the matt had jammed the gas pedal. 4 million of the matts were recalled. but had will may be who are to this story. this "new york times" reports that the government is still investigating. they're looking at the gas pedal design, the floor plan of the cars that have been involved. there's a little bit of confusion over some of the statements about whether the investigation was closed. it's not. they're still checking. some workers who don't get sick pay right now, imagine, they'd be in a tough pay if they got any flu symptoms. they's be thinking i know i'm supposed to stay home, but i need to go to work to get paid.

well, they could get five days of pay according to some new legislation coming from a california lawmaker. the government is looking at this bill basically this congressman, george miller, has proposed this bill that could help he says 50 million people who don't get paid leave. now, the thing is, it doesn't just mean you can call in and say i think i've got the swine flu and stay home. it would be if the boss said, hey, you're feeling sick, just stay home or maybe we're worried about that. we don't want the office in trouble. so you can stay home. businesseses that already have sick pay, they'd be exempt from this. warraen buffett. one of the word's richest because he's made great bets in the stock market. now he says he's making a big bet on america's economic future. yesterday he made the biggest deal of his life when his berkshire hathaway bought the burlington northern santa fe railroad. the company is worth -- i think

it was about a $40 billion deal and buffett says this is an all-in bet on the economic future of the u.s. basically he's saying i think the economy will do better and that means that the railroad will do better as they ship more stuff. so we shall see. police say they found stacks and stacks of stolen luggage at somebody's house. looks like a huge suitcase scam. how one officer cracked it.

quarter till the hour. overhauling your health care may take longer than expected. yesterday senate majority leader harry reid was asked if his health care bill would pass this year. reid refused to give a time table. democrats say the congressional budget office blew either deadline for analyzing the bill's cost. the senate cannot vote until they're finished and the delay also may mean that reid is having trouble getting enough votes. if you've lost your luggage, there is a chance it might be in phoenix, folks. two people are charged with

stealing more than 1,000 suitcases at sky harbor international airport. it all started when an airport officer saw a man take a piece of lug allege from a baggage claim carousel and drive away. police polled help and they found so many suitcases in it his house, they couldn't even count them all. okay. so folks in an ohio school district appear to be getting high school sports back? that's after voters narrowly approve adverse shal tax increase. here's rafer weigel with that story. >> yeah, good morning. the southwestern school district facing a steep budget crisis, cut all sports as well as drama and transportation. well, three times voters shot down a levy increase to keep these programs. early results report the increase was approved this team by just a few hundred votes. here's the deal. owners of a $100,000 home would have to pay 227 bucks per year to keep the programs. but this has been such a fiery

that's traditionally how these two races have gone in the years after the presidential race. but the president is quite pop already lar in both new jersey and virginia. >> democrats still made election history. richard lui will take a look at a new york congressional race in a few minutes and more on the implications of the elections. we're hearing some emotional reaction about three missing north dakota soft ball players who were found dead tuesday in a jeep in a pond. rafer weigel has more on this disturbing story. rafer? >> natasha, authorities had been looking for the three since late sunday night. they are 22 years old, 21 and 20. the three made frantic calls to friends before the line went dead and they were found inside their jeep in a pond near dickinson state university. it was believed they were star gazing. a former teammate and coach took

the news hard. >> in she was my daughter, i would be proud. she was an awesome person. >> she was great, very fun-loving, funny as can be. like you could joke with her. she wouldn't care. >> natasha, right now authorities do not suspect foul play. >> just so sad. rafer, thank you. overhauling your health care, it may take longer than expected. yesterday senate majority leader harry reid was asked had if his health care bill would pass this year. reid refused to give a timetable. democrats say the congressional budget office blew its deadline for analyzing the bill's cost. the senate can't vote until they're finished. the delay may also mean reid is having trouble getting enough votes. a justice of of the peace who refused to marry an interracial couple has resigned. that's the word from state officials in louisiana. keith bardwell with says he does not regret his decision. but he told wbrz he was advised to step down after the couple

filed a discrimination lawsuit against him. kind of curious if we have snow to deal with today. let's check in with bob van dillen. i know denver lately has been snowy. >> last week they got hammered pretty well. not much going on when it comes to snow. we have a clipper type system dropping out of the upper midwest, rolling through the great lakes, throwing light rain into central ohio. all the blue you see is all rain. the white shading is supposed to be snow, but that's not reaching the ground. i don't think you'll see much in the way of that stuff. you get into central and southern indiana, they're getting decent the rain right now. picking up a bit. here's the radar picture coming out of central ohio, little batch of rain north of columbus. that should stretch into cleveland, western p.a., virginia, maryland. it will be on the light side. off to the west a little farther, here is your indianapolis radar, just a few streaks of lighter blue, the

light rain, dark blue, heavier rain. clipper storms move fast, don't have a lot of moisture with them, but the wind can pick up behind them. here's the chicago radar. you guys are dry. into milwaukee as it swings on through, more rain coming in from the west. that's a backstage of it. once it passes through, you should see a little bit of partial clearing for you, which should be pretty nice. down by florida, couple showers, thunderstorms, you can see them mainly offshore from miami. one thunderstorm cell just off the beach of miami beach. lightning strike right here is drifting towards the west. you will get the storminess off and on today mainly from ft. lauderdale through the south, the keys. live to nyc, temperatures are going to be pretty nice. world series game six tonight. looks like it will be just fine when you get towards the bronx, cloudy skies. little bit of a breeze out of the west, about 10 miles per hour, but they will get the game in. there is the citicorp building, the tallest in the middle of the screen. looking pretty good. there's the forecast. it will be the clouds come in

>> it may not be a direct referendum on president obama's presidency to date, but a punch that leaves a bruise. he came up short after personally campaigning hard for democrats in new jersey and virginia, for instance, so this might signal trouble for democrats in the 2010 midterm elections. on the upside, the ex-ity poles show a majority of voters saying president obama's job performance not a factor in their vote. the virginia loss, though, could sting the most for the obama camp. republican bob mcconnell trounced his opponent by almost 20 points last year president obama was the first democrat to carry virginia in four decades. he won over independent voters there. this time around, mcdonnell will won independents by more than 20 points. >> four decades is significant. the republican victories may be tempered by the big loss of a congressional seat up in new york. tell us what happened there. >> the race turned into a

grandma's number. it's frustrating. more americans saw those mortgage rates go under 5% and they jumped, took some action. the mortgage applications rose for the first time in four weeks as people refinanced. they wanted to cut their mortgage payments. the mortgage bankers association says that rates averaged about 4.97% in the latest week. the all-time low was in march, 4.61%. still, people see under 5% and they go, all right, i'm ready to do something. >> jump in and take advantage. all right, jen. thanks. the folks at miss usa, the pageant, they wanted to get reimbursed for making miss california usa look great in her bikini. now it appears they've changed their minds.

a colorado ski town has voted overwhelmingly to legalize small amounts of marijuana. early returns show that more than 70% of voters in breckenridge approved of the measure to make up to one ounce of pot legal for anyone over 21. now, it's largely symbolic because marijuana possession is still a crime in colorado for people without medical clearance. detainees at the u.s. facility at guantanamo bay won't be getting the h1n1 flu vaccines after all. the task force responsible for

the detainees said last week they would be getting vaccinated. but lawmakers criticized the plan because of shack seen shortages in the u.s. the white house says there's no vaccine in gitmo and none's on the way. a texas student says that he is being discriminated against because he dresses like a woman. the high school senior wears women's clothing every day. but when he added on heels and a wig on monday, the principal told him to change or go home. he says he's not going back to school unless he can have his wig with him. >> i would like to be able to wear what i have on and wear my hair and everything and still be treated the same and have an equal education opportunity as well as others do. i don't want to be segregated or sent home because of what i have on. >> a school spokesperson says the principal was enforcing the dress code which says boys' hair cannot go past their collar. the oldest peace corps volunteer in the world got some really special recognition from secretary of state hillary

garrido's parole. you remember he was under parole supervision for rape when with jaycee dugard was did napped in 1991. >> it's wednesday, hump day. i'm natasha curry in for robin meade. more infants and young people are hospitalized for the h1n1 flu. but in california older people are more likely to die from it. a study in the journal of the american medical association says that the fatality rate from h1n1 in california is around 11%, but for people over 50, the fatality rate is as high as 20%. the study looked at california cases from april to august. now to the election results from some of the most watched races around the country. in new york city, michael bloomberg will serve a third term as mayor. he set a record for personal campaign spending with more than $100 million. but he still only won by five

29 made up just 9% of the vote. that is down from 17% in 2008. then in jirnvirginia, 10% of th electorate was 18 to 24. >> how might these republican wins affect president obama? >> one thing we'll be looking at is the wins may have an impact on president obama's ambitious policy agenda, this as he troys to get through a massive health care bill, a climate bill looming on the horizon as well. the president may have more trouble rallying modded rat democrats to get on board. david gurgen thinks about that. >> it may give pause to some moderate and conservative democrats in the house of representatives when the president is counting on with regard to health care, the environmental legislation called cap and trade, and a whole host of other things. they may be running a little more scared tonight than they

good morning. welcome back. the exact cause of a sudden problem with some toyotas and lexuss where they suddenly speed up, the exact cause remains a deadly mystery. right now the government has more to say about it. transportation officials say that it could be more than just the floor mats. there have been a lot of these reports about these cars just suddenly speeding up. imagine how dangerous that would be, including this fiery crash. it killed a california highway patrol officer and his family. their lexus sped up to more than 120 miles an hour. they just couldn't get it to stop. first the blame was just on those mats. the thinking was that the mat jammed the gas pedal. 4 million of them were recalled but there could be more to the story. this morning's "new york times" says the government is still investigating. looking at gas pedal design and

the floor plan of the cars. because of all the fear about the h1n1 swine flu, you've heard the government. they said, if you get this, please stay home if you get sick so the epidemic doesn't spread. but what if you don't get sick pay? that's the case for millions of americans who maybe think, look, i can't afford to stay home. now a congressman is introducing a bill so that people who don't get any sick pay could get up to five days off with pay. congressman george miller says 50 million people could be affected by this. you could get it if the boss says to stay home. the boss could do that to keep everybody else healthy. it is up to the boss. a new recorded high this morning for goal. it's now trading just below $1100 an ounce. what does it tell you? it tells you that governments around the world could be thinking that that's the safest place to keep their money. of course, they have a lot of it. instead of in foreign currencies like the u.s. dollar. and here's a subject you

show a majority of voters in both states showing president obama's job performance, not a factor this their vote. the virginia loss though could sting the most. bob mcdonnell trounced his opponent. last year, president obama was the first democrat to carry virginia in more than four decades. he won over independent voters there at that time. mcdonnell this time won independents by more than 20 points. >> four decades. the republican victories, they may be tempered by the big loss of a congressional seat in upstate new york. >> the race turned into a vicious internal battle. bill owens beat doug hoffman. sarah palin chimed in on this race. they had big problems with the opponent, dede scozzafava.

she withdrew from the race saturday and endorsed owens. since the civil war in 1872. >> wow, my goodness. >> a lot of years. >> thank you. and more people are getting sick in a massive recall of ground beef. we're talking about a half a million pounds of ground beef that have been recalled and we want to make sure you don't eat it. the cdc says 28 people are now sick. two people died after eating the contaminated ground beef and you might have it in your freezer if you bought the store brand beef from any of those stores. now might have heard us say earlier in the week this was only at stores in the northeast, but this has spread. people are getting sick all across the country. what happened is the stores, not

in more than four decades. in new jersey, incumbent jon corzine lost to republican, chris christie. mr. obama has campaigned hard for corzine. here's ari fleischer on what this means for the obama administration and democrats. >> first year of any election, midterm right after presidential, party in power almost always suffers big losses. that's what you can anticipate if history's any guide. here's the killer statistic if i'm a democrat. in virginia in 2008 when barack obama took virginia, people under 30 were 21% of the electorate. today, they were 10%. the black vote was 10% of all virginia votes last year. today, it was 15%. the very coalition that put barack obama over the top is not showing up. >> an independent candidate won a third term. michael bloomberg set a record

for campaign spending of more than $100 million, but only won by five percentage points. in atlanta, a battle is going to a runoff. a woman will face an african-american state senator. houston is headed for a runoff, too. if the front-runner there wins, she would be the city's first openly gay mayor. a sheriff says three missing college softball players found dead likely drove straight into a pond in the dark. it's believed they were stargazing when this happened. the sheriff says their jeep was found in ten feet of water hidden behind tall grass and does not suspect foul play. the governor of rhode island just signed a bill to make indoor prostitution illegal. since the '80s, there's been a

and green ar rows in new york. up to a solidly higher open. payroll processing firm adp says just over 200,000 jobs were lost in october, which is a slight improvement from the previous month. earlier this year, the same report showed more than 700,000 jobs lost in a month. so the trend is good even if it's painful. a separate report showed planned layoffs for october. later today, we expect to hear from wha the federal reserve has to say about jobs. policymakers are almost certain to keep rates close to zero. investors will be looking closely to see if policymakers think the growth last quarter is sustainable. gm walking away from a deal to sell opal. gm says europe's business

ago. he's accused of keeping at least ten bodies in his basement. his backyard and his living room. he's being held without bond, but a judge decided to hold him for that and after prosecutors called him an incredibly dangerous threat to the public. police found four more corpses and a skull at his home yesterday. today, authorities will search the walls and floors of the home. we'll keep you posted, but that video just in. the folks at the miss u.s.a. pageant wanted to get reimbursed for making her look great in her bikini, but now, they have changed their minds.

implants. she said by confirming she had them, the pageant violated her privacy. she also said she was fired for being against same-sex marriage. the pageant said she violated her contract. the rapist is being held without bond. richard lui is working on that for us now and has other important stories for us. >> shocking story. police say they have found four more bodies an a skull at anthony sowell's house and the prosecutor had something to say before bond was denied. then the body of a woman who was two months pregnant was found in a florida bayou. and then, hold on to your law books, a judge is letting a convicted robber sue the people that chased him after the robbery, but he has to do something first before he can file. we'll have the details in about 15 minutes. >> that last one really got my

people in an ohio school district appear to be getting

high school sports back after voters approved a tax increase. rafer weigel has the latest on that story. no sports, then suddenly, they're getting it back. >> the southwestern school district cut all sports as well as drama. three times, voters shot down the levy increase to keep these programs. it was approved this time by just a few hundred votes. owners of a $100,000 home would have to pay $227 per year to keep the programs. it resulted this threats and shouting matches in town hall meetings and police reportly had to break up demonstrations. stephen colbert is coming to the rescue of american speed skating. the bank withdrew because it went bankrupt. he announced it would pick up

the tab and the crowd goes wild. viewers are being asked to go to colbert's website and make a donation or to the u.s. speed skating website. lance armstrong's bikes fetched $1.3 million at an auction to raise money for his cancer foundation. seven bikes. they were nice bikes. the frames were designed by artists. lance said parting with the bikes was not easy since he likes to keep the bikes he races, especially when they're worth several million dollars. it was a good cause. my wife hates this story. tom brady's wife is putting the super in supermodel. just a month away from giving birth to the couple's first child, she is close to getting her helicopter's license.
