recall christi and folks watching, president obama campaigned on changing the tune in washington. i feel president obama is working hard to put his plans to work. his problem is a house and senate as that hasn't learned to work together for the good of the whole country. when they do, our whole government will be awesome. here is an e-mail from tim. obama's presidency is like his political career, much talk and little done. he is speaking to reporters daily but hasn't done anything. tim is waiting for something. let's get to a phone call. maria is calling from oregon. thanks for your patience. what is your take? >> caller: i voted for barack obama. i am a democrat and i am very disappointed in the way the country is heading. i do not believe that we need to give him more -- i don't believe in the patience thing. lydia was saying we need to give him time. he is putting too much on his plate. i am very disappointed in how
2:10 pm
thin skinned he actually became. he needs to focus more on running the country rather than campaigning and, you know, his comments against people that oppose him is really disappointing to me. i feel he is polarizing this country politically. >> so you want to see some action. maria, thank you very much. a lot of posts on my facebook page. go to richelle careyhln. this is what joe says, joe says obama is the one who said he would fix everything. more broken promises, maybe instead of playing basketball and golf, more work. jackie wrote stop hating on the president. we need to give him time to clean up the mess republicans made. we need to remember he is only one man and there is a lot of -- this is what she says, crap that needs to be cleaned up. marilyn made her point to our

your views camera. look at this. >> i think president barack obama is doing a wonderful job. i'm looking at the challenges he had when he came into office and i think he's made a sizable dent and improved it and i think in the next year just as he said, it is a big ship, you can't turn a big ship around in one day, in one month, in one year. i expect him to continue at the rate that he's done and i think we're all going to be pleased with what he's done. >> thanks to marilyn. christi you had to sift through a bunch of welcome back messages. you have a comment you want to share. >> i think this comment shows how polarizing it is. people love him or don't like him. i think the fact that the gop is regaining office is speaking volumes about the job obama is doing. the main message is there are promises. people are getting disillusioned with him. can you say one term.

2:34 pm
i think one of the glaring questions here is what took police so long when you're talking about at least ten decomposing bodies, to get to this house and discover them? >> well, the police chief answered that question i believe in his news conference. there were very few, i believe one or two calls to the area or to that house regarding a disturbance and one incident regarding that smell that the police were notified about. i will admit to you this, perhaps they have to change their rules down there with regard to checking on sex predators. the sheriff's department did follow their guidelines and go there one time. that has to be relooked at. >> okay. one of the things we've noticed is when some of those folks talk to the media, some of the investigators, they are really emotional. this has been described as one of the deadliest crime scenes in cleveland history. how intense a toll does this

days after a california state student was found beaten in his dorm room and died his parents got a shock when they opened their mail. they got a $29,000 bill from the hospital even though their son was insured. along with the bill, here is the thing, a detailed letter explaining doctors' efforts to revive their son. that forced them to relive their loss. >> barely enough energy to finish your sentences, having to sit down and deal with something like this out of the blue is extremely difficult. >> i honestly don't think that there's any civilized country anywhere in the world that would allow parents of a murdered boy to receive a bill like this and a letter like this.

2:44 pm
are exchanging these back rubs for. of course, as you might jump to immediately, mating, that is one of the things you get in exchange for a back rub. sometimes being allowed to hold a baby. researchers found females would mate after receiving 15 minutes of grooming and would stay loyal to that male. all that social climbing and trading of goods points towards a biological market. researchers say it is not that different from the market we have in the human world on wall street. as one researcher put it, only the strong survive isn't quite the right motto. it is more like only the cooperative survive in this trading world of the jungle. so 15 minutes and you get a little something something. >> cheap date. >> that is how it works with monkeys. >> cheap date. that is what bruce said in my ear. one from me. reggie, thank you so much. >> all righty. >> here is a subject you probably don't want to get too

close to. bad breath. we are going beyond the surface. it may be a problem you can't simply brush off. >> a big concern among patients obviously is bad breath. it is really the bacteria that causes in part the bad breath. p peridontal or gum disease. you are smelling the bacteria. perhaps a crown is loose. you get the bad breath from the bacteria under the crown. many concerned parents say my child's breath is awful. if you see big golf balls in the back of the throat, the tonsils harbor bacteria. hydrogen peroxide diluted 50/50 with water is a good mouth rinse. another important thing people don't always think about is

3:02 pm
remains of at least ten people in and around sowell's home, including a skull discovered in the basement. law enforcement appears visibly disturbed by the apparent killing spree. >> 24 years in law enforcement along with the other guys that have quite a bit more time. we've never seen anything like that. it's very challenging from an investigative standpoint. from an emotional standpoint. the investigators on the ground doing it. the coroner's office. so, it's emotional. but the guys are -- the men and women are professional. they're going to continue doing their job. >> neighbors say they complained of a foul smell, a decomposing smell in the area. it probably came from a nearby business that sold sausage. at a news conference later the county coroner may release the causes of death for the four bodies discovered yesterday.
3:03 pm
well, the sowell case is an issue jane velez-mitchell is looking into and has been for days. lots of questions about why the bodies were never found even thee he was checked in on consistently because he was a convicted rapist. what impact is this having on investigators? >> you just heard one of the investigators talking about this, chuck. this has to be emotionally overwhelming. imagine you're in that house, dealing just with the stench. the stench of death that neighbors said was overpowering from a distance. you're in there looking for more bodies and you've already found ten plus a skull sitting in a bucket in the basement. these investigators, incredible professionals that they are, have dealt with pretty gruesome crimes. we know some pretty hideous crimes have come out of cleveland, ohio. but this one takes the cake, and it is going to create essentially post-traumatic stress disorder in these
3:04 pm
investigator who is are going to have to get therapy and get help and get counseling for what they are dealing with. and now the search for more bodies has in fact expanded, chuck. they are going in a six-mile radius of this home. and looking in every abandon building, in every shed, wondering, could this guy have buried more bodies in these abandon areas. this is a nightmare. and, of course, you're hearg from neighbors who said i could have been one of the victims. he invited me in for a drink. >> i'm surprise not one missing person's case has been cleared by this. they don't have a positive i.d. i don't mean finally cleared. but nobody has come forward and say my daughter could be in there. my mom could be in there. >> i think there's a lot of speculation. there are people saying, hey, my cousin and my relative disappeared and lived in the vicinity. but the decomposition of the bodies is probably presenting an obstacle to positively identify them and therefore match them.
3:05 pm
you would think with the dental records alone they would have to be able to match some soon. i'm sure this is just the beginning of a major investigation. we're going to start hearing now the identities of these women. this is going to add a layer of horror to the story as we learn who these people are. right now they're numbers. soon they will be people. >> let me pose one thing. cbs spoke to a young woman whose mother went missing. she was a drug addict. she went missg from the neighborhood a year ago and the daughter said when she went to police they laughed and said oh, she'll show up for christmas. >> i think there is a double standard when it comes to looking for missing women and there is an aspect to it where if the person is a troubled person the police don't give it the attention they should. you know why? they need to find that person. that's a human being. and where that person is there could be others. as we're learning in this case.
3:06 pm
>> good to see you, jane. lot of passion. jane velez-mitchell with "issues" every night on hln. investigators think three softball players made the deadly mistake of driving straight into a farm pond in the dark. they may not have been able to see it. no foul play suspected in the deaths of 22-year-old kyrstin gemar, afton will yom son and ashley neufeld. it was found resting on its wheels in ten feet of water. signals for the women's last desperate phone calls led investigators to the pond hidden by tall grass on private property. word that correction officials failed to supervise garrido's parole. he's accused of kidnapping jaycee dugard and holding her captive for 18 years. the associated press said he committed numerous parole violations and officers missed

>> surveillance cameras captured some of the burglars. you can see images. police say they may be part of a major theft ring. americans exercise the power of the ballot once again and raise more questions than they answer. nothing new there. what were voters thinking as they went to the polls in the off-year election?
3:10 pm
the chairman of the republican party insists he's not gloating but admits he's smiling about the results of the off-year elections. the gop won in one state and impressive in another. two governor wras races up today. both seats held by democrats. a new york congressional seat in republican hands for a century is no longer. chris christie is the first republican to win a statewide new jersey race in more than a decade. jon corzine spent nearly twice as much as christie in the campaign. that didn't overcome the strong negative impression voters had of the long-term governor.
3:11 pm
virginia has former state attorney bob mcdonald. he handedly defeated legislator creigh deeds and will succeed tim kaine, who is chairman of the democratic national committee. well, the special election, the one for the 23rd district in upstate new york provided one last twist in the wildly dramatic campaign this district has only elected republicans for more than 100 years. he defeated doug hoffman. the gop nominee quit the race last week. it's our "your views" question. richelleca kaicarey is looking what you have to say about president obama, one year to the day after he was elected. richelle? >> my eyes are on fire from some of the stuff i've been reading. and our producer, i think his ears are burning. people are really, really passionate about this. there's a few basic camps. people say this is not the president's fault. he inherited this.
3:12 pm
people who say everything is his fault. it's been a year since barack obama became the 44th president of the united states. we've been asking. how do you think he's doing. do you think any of the elections you've been talking about. here's the comments. you've been lighting up my facebook page. this is what nick says. richelle carey, hln. nick says that he, president obama, inherited a bad economy and huge problems. everything will turn around but it will take another year. this has been a standard comment we've been getting. this one is unusual. cory says we need to tone down the hope. listen. i voted for obama. now that that is out of the way i'm going to tell you this, everyone went into this with their expectations way too high. really, how do people keep getting their hopes up like this
3:13 pm
every election. high hopes lead to disappointment. she's like, get over it people. things don't change that much. i wonder what cory has been through in his or her life. could be a guy as well. kim is on the phone calling from virginia. all right, kim. you had an election there, didn't you. >> we did. we did. i was just calling in because i wanted to voice my opinion. i'm a die hard republican. i'm really sad. the big guys keep getting bigger. the small guys get smaller. 1/3 of what he was making before. these guys are taking advantage of it. contractors are. they're burning up, you know, these guys, good guys working in the business. 20, 30 years. try to pay them $8 or $10 an hour. our president needs to step up and do something about it. i think he's a good guy. i think he's got the means to do it. i just think he has a lot of
3:14 pm
