the charges being preferred today. 13 counts of premeditated murder. >> transfer of remains continues and dedicated casualty assistant teams are passionately supporting the families of our fallen. today we will conduct a memorial service recognizing the sacrifice and service of the four fallen comrades. even as we move to resumption of normal operational activity, we do so with the utmost respect for our families as we would never want to minimize the enormity of their sacrifice. here at ft. hood there are several titles. fantom corps. america's hammer. yet the one we are so proud of is the family first corps. as this was spawned from demonstrated focus and commitment to our families. that will continue. to all of our gunshot victims in

local hospitals, one is in icu and 11 remain on the wards. all of them in stable condition. behavioral health professionals continue to assist us here at ft. hood. since the incident over 100 of them have all met at the ft. hood staff enhancing our capability to assess and assist across the command. critical incident stress management teams, unit ministry teams, health specialists, family life consultants, just to name a few are out there supporting us right now. collectively they have been able to make nearly 3,000 individual contacts so far. all of the wounded have received a critical incident stress debrief. >> that's a status update on the victims and how ft. hood and the personnel are coping and moving on. we hope to hear very soon from the criminal investigation division and a spokesman named christopher gray who will announce 13 counts or charges of premeditated murder are to be

filed against the 39-year-old army major nidal hasan charged with killing 13 people on post last thursday. and also a female soldier is pregnant at the time. that may represent a 14th count that could be added representing the fetus. the next proceeding is an article 32 proceeding although major hasan could waive his right to that proceeding and they could go directly to trial. we'll have more on the charges he faces just ahead. we may know next week what the president plans to go in afghanistan. defense secretary robert gates confirms the president is not adopting any of the options presented to him so far. he will spend the next week in asia. he may announce a decision on afghanistan shortly after he returns. he's not rejecting the four proposals from military commanders that he wants to combine some of the best features of several of the options. the afghanistan commander general stanley mcchrystal is

a rural property about 30 miles east of kansas city. bates city, missouri. that's connected to the family. all five are charged with rape, bestiality, forcing children into fake marriages and forced abortions. investigators are searching the property for possible bodies and jars with buried notes from the children documenting the alleged sexual abuse. the sheriff said there are more alleged victims out there. the 77-year-old father and four adult sons made their first court appearance today. three of the men are former lay ministers in the community of christ which used to be called the reorganized community of latter day saints. we have this story just in. affidavits have been filed for arrests and charges in the now infamous balloon boy saga. richard heene has been charged with one count. they agreed to turn themselves in and will plead guilty to

charges tomorrow according to the attorney's statement. the couple may face jail time but the attorney says the prosecutor will recommend probation. she posted pictures of a european vacation on facebook. now a georgia teacher is out of a job.

as you heard, the u.s. army has filed formal charges against the ft. hood shooting suspect. a psychiatrist. military prosecutors have prepared 13 counts of premeditated murder. investigators say additional charges may be filed in connection with that thursday rampage, that bloody rampage on post. 13 people killed. 29 were wounded. hasan remains hospitalized in san antonio. the number of americans who have died from swine flu may be four times higher than believed. "the new york times" says the cdc estimates h1n1 may have killed 4,000 people in the u.s. since april. earlier estimates put the number at 1,000. the virus is not getting more dangerous but the cdc is now counting lab confirmed cases in

deaths from complications related to h1n1 like bacteria infections and pneumonia. a former high school teacher said she was forced to resign over her facebook page. ashley payne was a teacher in georgia. her principal recommended she quit because of a curse word that appeared on her facebook page and pictures from her european vacation. >> i visited the guinness brewery. i went to italy and had wine. i went to the temple bar district of dublin and drank some alcohol there. like any normal adult would. >> reporter: payne is suing to get her job back. the school system isn't commenting so far. one of the victims found inside the cleveland home of a convicted sex offender was buried today. it's the first funeral for any of the 11 victims. police continue searching the home of anthony sowell and the stench of decomposition is getting worse. sowell is charged with five counts of murder.

and running. unbelievable crimes and the men who appeared in court today to face those charges. john, what's the latest? >> reporter: 77-year-old burrell mohler sr. and his four sons did appear in lafayette county court this morning to face multiple charges of sex crimes against children. these are horrific charges involving incest, bestiality, and violent sexual assaults against children as young as 5. this all stems -- the victims in this case at least initial victims in the criminal complaint is the granddaughter of burrell mohler sr. she's 26 years old now. although these crimes have taken place more than ten years ago, and in some case 20 years ago, it is sparking other victims to step forward since news of this broke the sheriff here in lafayette county tells me that other people have come forward and told them that they, too, have been sexually abused as

children by burrell mohler sr. or one of his four sons. they lived in lafayette county here for quite some time. they were active in their church. lay ministers. they worked in public service. and many of them had access or daily contacts with children. and so the investigation has picked up a lot of new leads and as horrible as the initial charges have been for people to hear, this may just be the tip of the iceberg. >> we were talking just before the break apparently people in lexington just can't believe what's transpired just down the road in bates city. >> reporter: that's right, chuck. i'm standing here on the courthouse square and there's a lot of anger in this community. i've had several people walk up to me and suggest that if found guilty these men should be cast ra erated. the crimes are horrible for

welcome back. one of our i-reporters in virginia beach says he's not seen anything like this in years. william bernstein took video as the mid-atlantic coast was slammed by downpours and remnants of tropical storm ida and strong winds from that nor'easter. counterclockwise wind direction as that storm marched up the atlantic seaboard. he saw a lot of flooding and down trees in the area. when he got to the beach he realized how strong the winds really were and the storm as he put it was one for the record books. >> this is absolutely

thank you for being with us. we have breaking news out of texas to share with you. the u.s. army has filed formal charges against the ft. hood shooting suspect, major nidal hasan. military prosecutors have prepared 13 counts of premeditated murder against the army psychiatrist. investigators say additional charges may also be filed in connection with that bloody rampage that was one week ago today. >> we do know that the suspect was not at the readiness center for any scheduled appointments or command-directed activity. again, we are looking at every possible angle in this case. we are working closely with numerous agencies to get a

complete picture of the entire event and we are seamlessly sharing that information with those agencies. >> 13 people were killed and 29 wounded during that attack. hasan remains hospitalized in san antonio in the meantime. and the military doctors who trained him as a psychiatrist expressed concerns about his strong religious beliefs and what they sometimes called odd behavior but didn't consider him a threat. the "associated press" reports hasan's behavior was a topic of conversation when he was a student at a military medical school. he reportedly was considered a mediocre student during his medical training. his superiors reportedly thought his strong religious beliefs interfered with his research. a 77-year-old missouri father and his four sons, adult sons, accused in a child sex crime investigation made their first court appearance today. the five men are charged with rape, beast ideality, forcing children into fake marriages and

forced abortion. authorities are digging up a rural property east of kansas city connected to this family. investigators are searching for possible bodies and jars with buried notes from the children documenting the alleged sexual abuse. the sheriff says there are more alleged victims out there, and he's encouraging people to please come forward. three of the suspects are former lay ministers in the community of christ, which used to be called the reorganized church of jesus christ of latter day saints. the church says their licenses have been suspended. one of the victims found inside the cleveland home of convicted sex offender was buried today. this is the first funeral for any of the 11 victims. more services are scheduled in the next few days, and police are continuing to search the home of anthony sowell. in fact, neighbors say the stench of decomposition is not only back, it's getting worse. investigators are removing evidence from the house next door which appears to be abandoned. sowell is charged with five

counts of murder so far. all but one of the 11 bodies found at the house have now been identified. colorado prosecutors have filed charges against these folk, the parents in the now infamous balloon boy saga. richard heene faces a felony count of attempting to influence a public servant. the charge against mayumi heene, false reporting to authorities is a misdemeanor. the heenes have agreed to turn themselves in and will appear in court tomorrow. their attorney says the couple will plead guilty as part of a plea deal to keep the family together. they may face jail time but that the prosecutor will only recommend probation. police have arrested a suspect in the disappearance of 5-year-old shaniya davis. there is still no sign of that little girl. police say they took this man, clarence coe, into custody last night. she's been charged with first-degree kidnapping. he has a record dating back eight years, including convictions for assault on a female and felony breaking and entering.

please take a good look at your screen. this little girl is still missing. she was reported gone from her home tuesday morning. how she was taken is still a mystery. police dogs failed to turn up the girl's scent in her neighborhood. but on hln's "nancy grace" last night, we learned police have found other clues. >> and now the bombshell tonight, the news is not good. this child's favorite blanket has been found in the trash can of a neighbor at least 200 feet away in her trash receptacle. we've also been told that the blanket was covered in feces. >> nancy grace will have all the latest tonight at 8:00 and 10:00 eastern right here on hln. the president's advisers head back to the drawing board regarding afghanistan. how the decision on more troops hit a snag.

heavy rain from what's left of tropical storm ida, now battering the mid-atlantic. this is the video we got from affiliate wavy in the norfolk area. there are coastal flood warnings in some areas. the storm's moved out of georgia but not before flooding several neighborhoods. some were still recovering from massive flooding back in september. one of our i-report erers w lives in virginia beach took this video as the mid-atlantic coast was getting slammed by the heavy downpours, remnants of tropical storm ida. but they're coupled with strong winds from a nor'easter. he saw a lot of flooding and downed trees in that area. once he got to the beach, he realized how strong the winds really were and the storm, as he put it, was one for the record books. >> this is absolutely spectacular here.

president obama is still weighing options about the afghanistan war and how we should go forward. he is rejecting all of the military options presented so far asking commanders to come up with new ideas. the question remains what does the u.s. want to achieve if the goal is an american victory? what would that victory look like? richelle carey is joining us. what are people say something. >> actually, chuck, to be quite frank the overwhelming majority seem to say for them winning means coming home.

that has been the overwhelming majority. we still want to give you a sample of what we are getting. lots of comments on my facebook page starting last night when the news broke that the president was rejecting the options presented to him this is a comment from chad. chad says how did we go from capture bin laden to let's help afghanistan stabilize their government? let's get back to our main objective with more focus. capture that s.o.b. and bring our troops home. that's how we can win. there's a lot of other comments that are similar to that. not with the s.o.b. part, but we appreciated his passion. i ran it by my boss before i did it. lee from ridgeway, virginia. what is your take? >> caller: hi, richelle. my take is there no easy solution to the war in afghanistan. it is not a winnable situation.

the army has filed formal charges against major nidal hasan. military prosecutors prepared 13 counts of premeditated murder against the 39-year-old army psychiatrist. additional charges may be filed in connection with the bloody rampage a week ago today. >> it's important to remember that the preferal of charges is an important step in a court-martial process. it is merely an accusation. the accused is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty and we have a duty and obligation to protect the constitutional rights of everyone involved. major hasan has obtained legal

representation. an accused soldier has the right to be represented by civilian counsel at no cost to the government and/or detailed military counsel at no expense to the accused. >> 13 people were killed, 29 others wounded. the military doctors who trained hasan as a psychiatrist expressed concerns about his strong religious beliefs and sometimes odd behavior but took no action. it is reported they didn't consider him a threat. the associated press reports hasan's behavior was a topic of conversation when he was a military medical school student. hasan reportedly was considered a mediocre student. his superiors reportedly thought his strong religious beliefs interfered with his research. in missouri a 77-year-old father and four adult sons accused in a sex ring investigation made their first

court appearance, rape, beastiality, forcing children into fake marriages and forced abortion. authorities are digging up rural property east of kansas city connected to the family. investigators say they are searching for possible bodies and for jars, jars buried jars with notes from the children documenting the alleged sexual abuse. the sheriff said there are more allege td victims. three of the suspects are former lay ministers of the community of crist, used to be the reorganized church of jesus christ of latter day saints. the church says their licenses have been pulled. police have arrested a suspect in the disappearance of shaniya davis. police took clarence coe into custody charged with first degree kidnapping. he has convictions for assault on a female and felony breaking and entering. shaniya was reported missing

we can't imagine this, chuck. if you look at the employment lines, those ex-cons are right at the back. a lot of potential employers look at their resume and rap sheet and don't look further when they see a conviction. our team caught up with an ex-convict here in new york trying to find permanent employment after 32 months in prison. his name is greg hedley. he has a temporary job thanks to a nonprofit job called the center for employment opportunities. we caught up with him in harlem early one morning. take a look. >> my name is gregly hedley. i just came home from serving a prison sentence of two to four. this is how i get my life back on track. i'm on my way to work. every day i wake up 5:30, i'm out the door by 6:00. you know, so starts my day.

oh, my biggest fear. it's that being asked that question, what crime did you commit? how can you you know, $40 a day hardly seems like enough. but you know what, i'll take working making minimum wage any day now as opposed to prison and death. it's almost 9:00 a.m., you know. you know, a little rough commute, whatever. i'm about to start my work site now. basically anything that's going to pay the bills right now, you know, help me get on my feet. so right now, i'm the trash man. >> well, that may be what he's doing right now. he makes $40 a day, as he said, but he wants to go onto college and actually wants to get a degree and work for that

we may know next week what president obama plans to do in afghanistan. secretary robert gates confirms the president is not adopting any of the options presented to him so far. the president will spend the next week in asia. he may announce a decision on afghanistan when he returns. gates says the president isn't rejecting four options from military commanders, he wants to combine the best features.

general mcchrystal is asking for 40,000 additional combat troops. gates says the president is signaling the best way to signal resolve and make it clear to the afghan government u.s. commitment is not open ended. u.s. ambassador to afghanistan, retired general carl ikenberry is expressing reservations about any increase in troop levels. published reports indicate he sent classified cables to washington casting doubt on the afghan government's ability to join the fight against the taliban. so this brought us to this question today for your views. how do you define winning in afghanistan? and you have not been shy about your answers, a lot of answers. i put this topic on my face book page, richelle carey hln and got quite a few comments. let me share them.

eastern on hln. the dow rallied more than 500 points during the recent streak but they were unable to add to those gains. felisha taylor has the latest from our desk in new york. >> dow jones back off after six straight positive sessions. it's not much of a surprise to see profit taking after those kinds of gains, they dow fell, s&p lost about 1%. bigger than expected buildup of oil inventories. investors got economic news at the end of the trading day that's literally breaking banks. jumped to $156 billion in october. it's higher than predicted, 13th consecutive monthly deficit. the chipmaker stock soared 20% after the company settled a long-running legal battle with intel. intel paying $1.2 billion to amd to settle antitrust and patent lawsuits. intel shares were slightly

military investigators are filing 13 counts of premeditated murder against the army psychiatrist accused of opening fire at ft. hood, texas, a week ago. there may be more charges filed against major nidal hasan. 13 killed and dozens more were injured. the gunman kept firing until he was shot. they credit a police officer with taking him down. sergeant kim munley was able to fire and shoot the shooter even though she had been hit by three bullets. but senior sergeant mark todd who arrived on the scene at the same time said he is the one who engaged the gunman after munley

was wounded. investigators say the exact sequence of events still is not clear. >> our investigation thus far indicates that two responding police officers, one male and one female, arrived at the scene and both engaged the armed suspect. i would caution anyone from drawing final conclusions concerning the actual engagement in terms of who did what until all the evidence is fully analyzed. >> todd was not hurt. munley is still in the hospital with gunshot wounds to her leg and her hand. the military doctors who train hasan as psychiatrist expressed concerns about his religious beliefs and odd behavior but didn't consider it a threat. his behavior was at the top discussions. he was considered a mediocre student during his medical training. his superiors thought his strong religious beliefs interfered with his research.

a 77-year-old father in missouri and his four adult sons accused in a child sex crime investigation made their first court appearance today. what they are accused of is unspeakable. the men are charged with rape, bestiality, forcing children into fake marriages and forced abortion. authorities are digging up a rural property east of kansas city connected to the family. investigators are searching for possible bodies and jars with buried notes from the children documenting the alleged sexual abuse. the sheriff says there are more alleged victims out there. he's encouraging people to come forward. three of the suspects are former lay ministers in the community of christ, used to be called the organized church of jesus christ of latter day saints. the church says their licenses have been suspended. colorado prosecutors have filed charges against the parents in the now infamous balloon boy saga. reached heene faces a felony count of attempting to influence

a public servant. he turned himself in today. he was booked and released. his wife mayumi wasn't there. she faces charges of false report, a misdemeanor. it's part of a deal to keep the family together. they may face jail time but the prosecutor will recommend probation. heavy rain from what's left of tropical storm ida is now battering the mid-atlantic. this is video we got from one of our affiliates in the norfolk area. virginia's governor declared a state of emergency and coastal flood warnings in some areas as well. the storm moved out of georgia but not before flooding several neighborhoods. some were still recovering from the massive flooding back in september. one of our ireporters said he hadn't seen anything like it in years. tee this video as the

mid-atlantic coast was getting slammed, remnants of tropical storm ida and strong winds from a nor'easter. he said he saw a lot of flooding, downed trees. once he got to the beach he found out how strong the winds were. the storm, as he put it, was one for the record books. >> this is absolutely spectacular here. folks we're down at inlet. what a few hours the surf makes. the surf has come up here. i can't even turn around, it's that bad. that feels awful. oh, my gosh. if you guys could just -- it's bad. that sand is blowing horizontally and vertically as it continues to battle the coast. it's really hard right now to even fathom what's going on here during this powerful nor'easter here. >> what's going on, continues to proceed towards the camera.

we may know next week what president obama plans to do in afghanistan. defense secretary robert gates confirms the president is not adopting any of the options presented to him so far the president will be spending the next week in asia. he may announce the decision on afghanistan when he returns. gates says the president wants to combine make of the best features of several of the options presented to him. afghanistan commander general stanley mcchrystal is asking for 40,000 additional combat troops. gates says the president is looking for the best way to signal resolve and make it clear to the afghan government the u.s. commitment is not open ended. the u.s. ambassador to afghanistan, though, retired general carl ikenberry is expressing reservations about

any increase in troop levels. he sent cables to washington casting doubts on the ability to join. so we've been asking how do you define winning in afghanistan? it's a sort sentence, a short question, rather, but it's really loaded. we know that we've been getting a lot of comments on this topic on my facebook page since last night when the news broke, the president wasn't going to accept any options to him. here is a sample of some of the options. terry wrote this -- this is what lee says. lee says -- ben says --

"the new york times" said cdc estimates h1n1 may have killed 4,000 people in the u.s. since april. earlier estimates put that number at 1,000 of the virus is not getting more dangerous.
