we have pounded the payment and shaken hands and have had conversations and one people over person by person. this is the old way to get politics done in new hampshire. my confidence in the system is reborn because of the people in new hampshire, because they turn out at these town hall meetings and nobody forces them and tell them they have to do it. it is because they believe in a better tomorrow for the united states of america. [applause] thank you very much. they turn out to the town hall meetings and they turn out to the house parties and a year from the candidates and then they smi and digest it all and render a judgment. here we set tonight, ladies and gentleman, with a ticket to ride and move on. here we go to south carolina, thank you also very much. thank you for all the folks up here. thank you for everything you have done in new hampshire. we came up about 10 days ago and the poles had is lagging about 1% or 2%. the most recent bull was about 3%. -- the most recent poll was about 3%. we wanted to respect the process here. when you run in a state like new hampshire, we knew it would be tough. going out and believing in the american people is our message and we believe we had opportunities we need is someone

who would go out and speak for all americans to have the opportunities we took the message to talk about faith and family as the bedrock of our society. [applause] by your work and a grass-roots efforts and the crowds we had, we built this campaign here in new hampshire in a short period time we did not spend a lot of money but was put a lot of effort into this. we came with a campaign was and we delivered a message not just for new hampshire but we delivered a message for america that we have a campaign here --

[applause] that we have a campaign that has a message and a messenger that can deliver what we need which is first and foremost to defeat barack obama. [applause] it is a message from the grandson of a coal miner, someone who believed deeply that the responsibility he had as someone who risked his life for a sovereign, a decaying, when he served in the austrian army during world war one and he fought on the russian front. if it wasn't for the aid of a

friend in the middle of the night crawling out from a foxhole and pulling my wooded grandfather back into that foxhole i would not be here today. he fought for someone who did not care about him or his freedom or his children's freedom. he came to america because he wanted to make sure that his children would be in a free country and his grandchildren would be in a free country. ladies and gentlemen, that is our charge and that is what is at stake in america today. [applause] let me assure you, he was not deterred by century -- temporary setbacks. he believed in the greatness of

this country and he believed in the, -- freedom of opportunity this country presented. we will go on to south carolina. [applause] for those who would like to think that somehow or another that this race can be over and in one or two states, states that have been the backyard and a home of a certain candidate -- [laughter] who, by the way, i want to congratulate ms. romney for a great victory tonight. [applause] he worked hard in this state and invested in this state and the people of new hampshire gave him a very hard-earned victory and i spoke with governor romney and congratulated him on that wind and said i am looking forward

to engage in on this subject matter of the issues, talking about records, talking about how we will best put the -- put the best foot forward and the best person for to deliver a message to the american people but can unite us. we have an opportunity in this race. we have an opportunity to be the true conservative, the true conservative who can go out and do what is necessary not just to win this race and we can win this race. [applause] to be the conservative who understands that at the foundation of our country, our institutions that are crucial for us to be successful nation,

families, families that are bonded together as the foundation that is still virtue and faith in our children, to build strong communities and build a great nation from the bottom up -- that is the message along with a government that understands that we have to create a playing field for all americans of a variety of different skills sets to be able to be successful in this country. we have a message back and appeal not just in south carolina but across this nation and in particular, in the states that are necessary for us to win this election. the states that are the swing states like pennsylvania, ohio, indiana, michigan or, the states i have been successful flight in pennsylvania in winning elections, ladies and gentlemen, we will not only well and deliver a message of the basic structure and foundation of our country be if faith or family an

opportunity of society but we will do so understanding that with faith in the american people, we can not only wipe out this deficit, we cannot only rebuild this economy, we can not only have a strong america that stands up for the values i just talked about, but we can do so and a huge victory that will rally this country to take on the great challenges we have before us. the state of new hampshire who were so warm and so generous to calista and kathy and jackie. it was wonderful how many people were positive and actively supported and helpful. i am delighted to have had this chance to spend time and learn more about the key concerns here. i want to thank everybody here who has been helpful to us, particularly speaker o'brien who did a great job and lori sand berm. [applause] one of the great virtues of running is that everywhere you go, you learn something and you pick up a better understanding of america. i have to say that the leadership that speaker o'brien and the house showed in developing a brand new approach that i hope will become adopted everywhere in america where they actually had the ways and means

committee report first and it indicated how much money they would have and they then actually adopted a budget to fit their income which is the opposite of every other state i know of in the country which writes a budget and tries to tell you what they need. the result was a very courageous and a very serious effort in which they cut 11% out of spending which is a remarkable achievement which is accomplished in washington, would begin to move was back on the right track. speaker, i commend you for the leadership. [applause] this is step two of the long process. having been an historian and active in government a long time, you learn certain things.

we have an opportunity, i think, to unify the country around a message of jobs, economic growth, and very dramatic programs. the opportunity is to reach out to everybody of every background would rather have paychecks than food stamps and convince them that what ronald reagan did in the 1980's in creating millions of new jobs, what we did what i was speaker in the 1990's in creating millions of new jobs can be done again. this campaign will go on to south carolina. [applause] we will offer the american people something very different. we will offer them an opportunity to participate in very dramatic, very fundamental

change in washington d.c. and we will prove that i both understand the principles that i understand the practice. i learned a lot of those principles from ronald reagan and from architecture. i got to practice them as a junior congressman working with president reagan. i got to practice them as speaker working with bill clinton. i want to suggest to you that when ronald reagan was president, we had to find a way to get votes for the house despite the fact that tip o'neill was speaker. when i was speaker, we had to find a way to get bill to sign despite the fact that bill clinton was president. i believe that we had a republican house, a republican senate, and a gingrich presidency, it would be amazing how much we could get done and how rapidly we could get it done. [applause]

so, we will take to south carolina tonight and kickoff tomorrow morning a campaign for jobs and economic growth, a campaign for a balanced budget, a campaign for returning power to the states to the 10th amendment, a campaign for a strong national security, a campaign for a stable, solid social security program both for people now on it and for the young people who are here who deserve a chance in their lead time to have an even better program with an even greater return because if we are smart, we can do better things for people. the washington alternative is how we raise taxes and cut spending in a way that causes you pain. that is exactly backwards. this is part of learning.

we had a debate the other day and were asked a question about the heating systems program and that was phrased in a washington way. are you going to run a bigger deficit to you can help more people or are you going to cut people off and hurt them so you can shrink the deficit? nobody on the panel asked about an alternative. what we simply went out and developed american oil and gas and brought down the cost of heating oil and did not need to help people and the price came down? [applause] that idea of doing more and doing it better it does not exist in the washington lexicon. it makes it very hard for our friends in the news media to cover because it is so strange. what if you were just innovative? what if you had new approaches? what you did everything

americans have always done? the fact is, the entrepreneur orial free enterprise system which attracted people from benjamin franklin to the wright brothers, to henry ford to thomas edison to bill gates and steve jobs, that model of maximizing development of new approaches, new energy, new opportunities, new technology has raised the standard of living of people across this plant more than any other system in the history of the world. [applause] you have been wonderful to us here. i'm asking each of you not to slow down. in the next couple of days, make a list of every person you know in south carolina and every person you know in florida because those are the next "great contest and as we get to

south carolina, as the choice becomes clear, as people understand that there is a bold reagan conservative approach of lower taxes, less regulations, more american energy, a sound dollar and actually being in favor of creating jobs, the office -- the opposite of the obama program of higher taxes, more regulations, less american energy, and attacking the people who create jobs -- look at those two models. i believe we can reach out and we can create in the jury that will shock the country and in the jury that will begin to put us back on the right track. it is doable. it is a daunting challenge but consider the alternative. if we do not go the extra mile and we do not offer a vision powerful enough to unify americans and we continue -- and we continue down the road that obama has this on -- but more than obama, the bureaucracy has a son, the judges have a son,

the entire pattern of how washington operates, more years of decay, more years of inadequacy, more years of falling behind, more years of growing weakness -- that is the alternative. i believe it will take someone who is capable of debate in barack obama face to face, delivering the conservative message, winning the argument in order to overcome his billion dollar machine. with your help, as your spokesperson representing your values on behalf of our children, our grandchildren, and our country, i will do everything i can to win the opportunity to represent you this fall into beijing and then defeating barack obama. thank you. [applause] this could not have happened without the help lot of people. i just need to mention a few of them. special thanks to senator kelly ayotte, governor john sununu -- i don't know where he went. senator judd gregg, congressman charlie bass. they have spoken for us and they have fought for us across the state. thank you also, mayor. ted gatsis.

the many state legislators who have been tireless workers on our behalf. one state senator deserves special mention. jeb bradley is out there somewhere. he has fired up audiences everywhere we go. thanks to ray burton, and others who have been there for us from the very beginning. we are grateful to the people who lead our campaign in new hampshire. jim merrill. [applause] jason mcbride, and a special thanks to the thousands of volunteers who have devoted countless hours to our calls. finally, we want to thank the people of new hampshire. [applause] they are the active part of this democratic process. the ones we met by knocking on

doors, visiting towns and cities throughout this great state, and who turned out to meet us at one of our many events. now, guess what i want to do? i want to introduce the man who next president of the united states, mitt romney. [laughter] this state has always been a very special place for our family. we made a home here and filled it with great memories of our children and grandchildren. the granite state moment we just enjoy it is one i will always remember. it is great to have family here. tonight we celebrate, tomorrow we go back to work. [applause] we do remember when barack obama came to new hampshire four years ago, he promised to bring people together. he promised to change the broken system in washington. he promised to improve our nation. those were the days of lofty promises made by a political candidate. now we're dealing with a failed president.

the last three years have not offered much hope. the middle class has been crushed. nearly 24 million of our fellow americans are still out of work. the median income has dropped 10% in the last four years, and soldiers returning home from the front line are waiting now in unemployment lines. our debt is too high and opportunities are too few. and this president wakes up every morning and looks across america and is proud to announce, it could be worse. it could be worse? bet's not what it means to an american. it could be worse. of course not. what defines us as americans is our unwavering conviction that we know it must be better and it will be better. [cheers and applause]

[chanting mitt] that conviction guides our campaign. it has rallied millions of americans in every corner of this country to our cause. over the last six months, i have listened to anxious voices in town halls and town meetings, visited with students and soldiers, in breakrooms and living rooms. i've heard stories of families getting by on less, of carefully planned retirements now replaced with jobs at minimum wage. but even now amidst the worst recovery since the great depression, i rarely heard any speech of hopelessness. americans know that our future is brighter and better than these troubled times. [applause]

we still believe -- we still believe in the hope, promise, and the dream of america. we still believe in that shining city on the hill. we know that the future of this country is better than 8% unemployment or 9% unemployment. it is better than $15 trillion in debt. it is better than the misguided promises and broken policies of the last three years and the broken promises of one man. the president has run out of ideas. now he is running out of excuses. and tonight -- and tonight, tonight we are asking the good people of south carolina to join the citizens of new hampshire and make 2012

the year he runs out of time. president obama wants to put free enterprise on trial. and in the last few days, we have seen some desperate republicans joined forces with him. [booing] this is such a mistake for our party and for our nation. the country already has a leader who divides us with a bitter politics of envy. we have to offer an alternative vision. i stand ready to lead us down a different path where we are lifted up by our desire to succeed, not dragged down by our resentment of success. in difficult times, we cannot

[applause] abandon the core values that define us as a unique nation. we are one nation under god. made no mistake, in this campaign i will offer the american ideals of economic freedom a clear and unapologetic defense, and we're going to win with that message. but you know that our campaign is about more than replacing the president. it is about saving the soul of america. this election is a choice between two very different destinies. president obama wants to fundamentally transform america. we want to restore america to the founding principles that made this country great.

he wants to turn america into a european-style social welfare state. we want to ensure that we remain a free and prosperous land of opportunity. [applause] this president takes his inspiration from the capitals of your. -- europe. inspiration. [applause] [cheers and applause] this president is making the federal government bigger and bloated. i will make it simpler, smarter, and smaller. [applause] he raised the national debt.

i will cut, cap, and balance the federal budget. [chanting mitt] this president has enacted jobs killing regulation. i will eliminate them. he lost our aaa credit rating. i will restore it. he passed obamacare. i will repeal it. [applause] and when -- and when it comes to the economy, my highest priority as president will be worrying about your job, not about saving my own. [applause]

now internationally, president obama has adopted an appeasement strategy. he believes america's role as leader in the world is a thing of the past. i think a strong america must and will lead the future. he does not see the need for overwhelming military superiority. i will insist on a military so powerful no one would ever think of challenging it. [applause] he criticizes our friends like israel. i will always stand with our friends. [applause] and he apologizes for america, and i will never apologize for the greatest nation in the history of the earth. [applause]

our plans protect freedom and opportunity, and our blueprint is the constitution of the united states. [applause] now the path i lay out is not one paved with ever-increasing government checks, and cradle to grave assurances that government will always be the solution. if this election is a bidding war for those it can promise the most benefit, then i am not your president. you already have that president. if you want to make this election about restoring american greatness, then i hope you'll join us. if you believe the disappointment of the last few years are a detour, not a destiny, then i am asking for your vote. i am asking each of you to remember how special it is to be an american. i want you to remember what it was like to be helpful and excited about the future, not

to dread each new headline. i want you to remember when you spend more time dreaming about where you send your kids to college than worrying about how to make it to the next paycheck. i want you to remember when our white house reflected the best of who we are, not the worst of what europe has become. that america is still out there. we still believe in that america. we still believe -- [applause] we believe, we believe.
