because of the recession the numbers moved up and it's really a scary situation, and we don't have a lot of time left before we have a debt crisis on our hands. all of those things we take for granted, the world's reserve currency, all those things are threatened. so i simply see it as my job elected by my colleagues to take this post to do whatever i can to address this issue, to be sort of a paul revere and to have this country get to have these conversations. with the president, i have a lot of respect for him but i don't respect the political tone that has been injected in this conversation which i think is counterproductive, not productive.

5:03 am
but don't be fooled behind that smile. she told me what you did not approve. you approved the amendment to the amendment but not approved the amendment. if you are following that on tv we have done the amendment to the amendment but not the amendment so we must go back to do the amendment. >> moved. >> moved. >> seconded. >> no discussion. vote again. aye. >> aye. any nays. thank you to my party. the amendment has passed. applause again. i think the presidential torture ban and intent to close guantanamo in conjunction with other agencies is clear on staying true it our evaluation at home. as far as the second amendment which i have withdrawn i feel there is a provision under tr s transnational crime under stronger and the safer and more secure home safeguarding u.s. citizens. i think that the implication is clear this applies whether the citizen is on u.s. soil or elsewhere. i think our values are well represented in this document. thank you very much. >> i'm grateful for your words and they are very important. please give him a round of applause. >> if matt haney would like to speak on this. matt, you are becoming a regular at open mic night here at the democratic party. >> i'm also withdrawing this amendment. i would like to say though that it is critical that we put rehabilitation at the forefront of our public safety policies. as a democratic party who believe in second chances we have to second -- stand up for second chances. we refer to local prison to work programs and talk about focusing on recidivism and have been folks come back to the communities and enter as full members of the community and make sure they are prepared to do that. as a democratic party i think we have stood up for that and we need to continue to stand up for that and i urge the president and democratic party to do that in the second term. >> you are very much on point. i'm going to get your applause in a second. i want to echo your concern to

in certain counties to get a photo voter i.d. is burdensome and suppressive of the vote. some counties in texas it is a 200-mile roundtrip to get a trip to the driver's license office. however, i have been informed in some states it is beyond photo voter that the laws are being put in place can lead to an oppressive result. so, for the interest of clarification, recognizing that one size fits all language provision including photo doesn't take into account the oppressive measures that are being enacted in other states. >> i understand you would like us to first reconsider the amendment then vote to retract the amendment to its prefer language? >> that's correct. >> we have two actions. first is can i get somebody to move to reconsider?
