this is a good time to think about the future. this convention is celebrating its 100th anniversary. it is even more for looking ahead to the demanding future. just as on your stay, we instinctively think "i wonder where i will be a year from now?" so it is natural for the republican party to ask today even 100ll happen years from now?" if we are as courageous and forward looking and as determined under the bright of the 20th century, as abraham lincoln and his associates were, republican party will

continue to grow in the confidence of the american people beyond the second centennial. the point is this. our policies are break today only as they are extending tomorrow. he is in league with the future.

i want to demonstrate the truth of a single proposition. the republican party is the party of the future. i propose that the plot form or right in 1956 because they are most in need with the future. and for the future of the republican party and will be decisively approved by the american people in 190056. -- 1956. i believe itrom the bottom of my heart that what i say is based upon certain abstentions.

the present and the future are bringing new kind of challenge to local governments, water supply, highways, health, housing, developments and usefuls of atomic energy, with two-thirds of us living in big cities, the urban organization and redevelopment must be given high priorities, highest of all, perhaps, will be the priority of first class education to meet demands of our swiftly-growing school-age population. the party of the young and of all ages says let us quit fighting the battles of the past. let us turn our attention to these problems on which the long-term well-being of our potter so urgently defends. first, the republican party is the party of the future because its the party that draws people together.

conscious, barn burner, vegetarians. now 100 years later, the republican party is again at the rallying point of americans of all callings of ages, races and incomes. forward moving, straight down the road, fighting program for their own for their bright future. some opponents tried to call it a party. indeed, it is a in interest party. that one interest is the interest of every man, woman, and child in america. and most surely as long as the republican party continues to be this kind of a one interest party.

a one universal interest party. it will continue to be the party of the future. and now, the fourth reason, the republican party is the party of the future cause baits is a party to which the many things that still need doing will be done and will be done by enlisting the fullest energies of free creative individual people. republicans approved that it is possible for the government to have a warm sensitive concern or the every day needs of people while steering clear of the big brother is watching you kind of interference. the individual and the special are the young person who has the tight federal monopoly on problem-solving. it deserves opportunity for

the economic power in terms of adequate military preparedness. during the past three and a half years, our military strength has been constantly augmented and intelligence. our country has never before in peace time been so well-prepared militarily. so long as the world -- so long as the world situation requires, our security must be there, our economic power as everyone knows is displaying capacity for growth which is rapid and even while supporting records military. we must keep it growing, but moral strength is also essentialual. today we are competing for men's hearts and minds and trust and all over the world.

there again, we find constructive work for each of us. what each of us does how each of us act, has influence on this place. now collective security we live in a shrunk in world, a world in which oceans are in hours a world in which a single minded of scattered freedoms of scores of struggling pent independent people to ensure the combined strength of friendly nations is for all of an mel end elementary matter. and in the days.

then the strength is not military strength alone, the heart of the collective security principal is the idea of helping other nations to realize their own political, economic, and military. the strength of the world lies not in cementing the free world into a second monolithic mass to compete, it lies rather in the yoon is that comes of a voluntary association of nations which however diverse are developing their own capacities and asserting their own national destinies in a world of freedom and mutual respect.
