this president can tell us the next four years will get it right. this president cannot tell us that you are better off today than when he took office. [cheers and applause] america has been patient. americans have supported this president in good faith, but today has come the time to turn the page. the day has come to put the disappointments of the last four years behind us, to put aside divisiveness and recriminations, to look ahead at what can be. now is the time to restore the promise of america. [applause] many americans have given up on this president, but they have

not ever thought of giving up, not themselves, not on each other, and not on america. what is needed in our country is not complicated or profound. it does not take a government commission to tell us what america needs. what america needs is jobs, lots of jobs. [applause] in the richest country in the history of the world, this obama economy has crushed the middle class. family income has fallen by $4,000, but health insurance premiums are higher. food prices are higher. utility bills are higher, and gasoline prices have doubled. today more americans wake up in poverty than ever before. nearly one out of six americans is living in poverty these are not strangers. these are our brothers and

sisters, our fellow americans. his policies have not helped create jobs. they have to present them, and this i can tell you about where president obama would take america. his plan to put taxes on small businesses will not add jobs. it will eliminate them. his assault on coal and gas and oil will send energy and manufacturing jobs to china. [applause] his trillion dollar cuts to our military will eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs and also put our security at greater risk. his $716 billion cut to medicare to finance obamacare will hurt today's seniors and oppress innovation in jobs and medicines. his trillion dollar deficit

saw, a slower economy, restrain employment, and cause wages to stop. to the majority of americans who now believe the future will not be better than the past, i can tell you if a rock obama is reelected, you will be right -- if barack obama is reelected, you will be right. i am running for president to help create a better future, a future where everyone who wants a job can find a job, where no security of for thue their retirement, and a child will get an education that leads to a good job, and i have a plan to create 12 million new jobs. [applause]

paul ryan and i have five steps. first, by 2020, north america will be an energy independence by taking invented of our oil, are cold, and our gas. -- oil, coal, gas. [applause] second, we will give our fellow citizens the skills they need for the jobs of today and the careers of tomorrow. when it comes to the school your child will attend, every parent should have a choice, and every child should have a chance. [applause] third, we will make trade work for america by forging new trade agreements, and when nations sheet in trade, there will be

unmistakable consequences. -- when nations cheat in trade, there will be unmistakable consequences, and fourth, to insure every entrepreneur and jobs creator their investments in america will not vanish as they have increased. and we will cut the deficit and put america on track to a balanced budget. [applause] fifth, we will champion small businesses, america's engine of job growth. that means reducing taxes on business, not raising them. it means modifying regulations that hurt small businesses the most, and it means we must rein in skyrocketing cost of health care by repealing obamacare.

[applause] today women are more likely than men to start of business. they need a president who respect and understand what they do. let me make this clear. unlike president obama, i will not raise taxes on the middle class of americana. [applause] as president, i will respect the sanctity of life. i will honor the institute of marriage. i will guarantee america pause

first liberty, the freedom of religion. president obama promise to begin to slow the rise of the oceans. [laughter] and to heal the class next -- the planet. my promises to help you and your family. [applause]

i will begin my presidency with the jobs tour. president obama began his with an apology to our. america and he said dictated to other nations. no, america has three other nations from dictators. -- freed other nations from dictators. >> usa, usa, usa! usa, usa, usa!

like every american was relieved the day president obama i gave the order and seal team 6 took out osama bin laden. on another front, every american is less secure today because he has failed to slow iran's nuclear threat. in his first tv interviewer as president, he said we should talk to a round. we are still talking, and centrifuges are still spending. president obama has thrown allies like israel under the bus even as he has relaxed sanctions on cuba. he abandoned our friends in poland by walking away from missile defense commitments, but if he is eager to give president clinton the flexibility -- the flexibilitytin he desires.

under my presidency our friends will see more loyalty and mr. putin will see more backbone. [applause] we will honor america's democratic ideals because of free world is a more peaceful world. this is bipartisan foreign legacy of tremendous and reagan, and other my presidency -- of truman and reagan, and other mine -- under my presidency we will return to it again. you might ask yourself if the next few years are really the america we want. the america that was won by the

greatest generation. as the america we want our a one trillion dollars from china? a dozen failed to find the jobs needed by $23 million and half the kids graduating from college -- does it fail to find the jobs needed by $23 million graduated from college? the america we all know has been a story of many becoming one. united to preserve liberty, united to build the great as the economy in the world, united to save the world from unspeakable darkness. everywhere i go there are monuments and now for those who have given their lives for america. there is no mention of their race, party affiliation, or what they do for a living. they lived and died under a single flag fighting for a single purpose. they pledge allegiance to the united states of america. that united america can unleash an economy that will americans back to work, but will once again lead the world to innovation and productivity and will restore every father and mother is confidence therir children's future is brighter. that united america will have a military so strong no nation will ever dare to test it. [applause] that america, that united america will of hold the consolation of rights endowed by

speech. we will also be taking tweets. you can be part of our process. also go down on the floor to hear the reaction from some of the delegates. that is where we are going to start. >> ohio is a key battleground states. what did you think of the speech tonight? >> the release shows that those of us that believe in america stand -- it really shows that those of of that believe in america stand for everybody and that we can live our dreams for ourselves and our grandchildren. i have a brother-in-law that came to this country for a better life, and he has lived the american dream, and he inspires me and my family. i am a third generation business

owner, a truck driver, and it inspires me to do better, not only for me and my family but for my community. >> he talks about going after the women's vote and trying to get undecided. likes i think he did. not just we want your vote because you are a woman or because you are in ohio or michigan. we want your vote because you are an american. we want to make this country a better place for us and our children. >> what stage are you from? >> ohio. >> what did you think of the speech? five it was phenomenal. it was thrown-job. i think he is exactly in -- it was pro-job. i think he is exactly what we

about god and those things. that is scary to me, because it is the sentimental imagination in politics rather than the moral imagination in politics, and ron paul represented moral imagination by asking tough questions about the morality of even having a medicare program, the morality of even having a federal reserve system, the morality of even having an overseas empire, and what we have today in the sentimental imagination of politics is very much like what mr. obama did four years ago, and both the democrats and republicans are really giving a political argument that is what empires do, not one republican soup. >> let me jump in at that point. we have a lot of people who want to comment tonight. similar sentiments from dave on twitter.

they support the patriot act and the drone of strikes. back to the floor. >> there were 100,000 loans. all delegates from his home state are here. where are you from? what did you think about the speech? >> i am from massachusetts. i thought the speech was fantastic. a new direction for this economy and the country. >> i am patricia. i am from south boston, massachusetts. i thought the speech was unbelievable. i thought he hit a homerun. >> i am from massachusetts. i thought mitt romney did an excellent job was explaining why we should believe in ourselves. >> i am a republican from massachusetts. mitt romney did a great job explaining how he is going to turn around our country and

this was an introduction to america at large, and i think he did a great job of explaining why obama should not be reelected and why he should be affected. if i have one trouble with the convention, it was the coverage, with people like chris matthews thing in his spoon on a high chair, complaining about racist republicans and ignoring hispanics speakers and ignoring african american speakers. you guys are great. >> robert, you are on. >> i thought the speech was a fairly good speech. it did reintroduce romney to the american public. it did not change my mind. i will still vote for president

obama. i would like to remind all of your listeners that faces the second worst recession we have ever hand -- this is the second worst recession we have ever had if you include the great depression, and we did not get out of the great depression until a second world war was started, and that allowed roosevelt to be elected for three terms. it took time to get america back on its feet, and it took a world war to do it. i do not think we need a war to get back on our feet. we just need more time. also, the references made to welfare, and appealing the se, i wouldwork costlau like to remind listeners a lot of republican governors, including mitt romney, requested those records for their state,

and on medicare, even the congressional budget office has said the way funds are being shifted to obamacare actually improves medicare. >> thank you for your call. back to the floor. >> we have a delegate from maryland. we have another year from michigan. what is your impression of the speech tonight by governor romney? >> i think he is a wonderful man, by a man of great character. he is someone who gets things done. we have had three and a half years of smoke and mirrors and a lot of charm, but this man is someone who when he says he is going to do something, i think he is going to follow through,

and he has got my vote. laxities would cost comment, how did that. -- >> clint eastwood, how did that play? >> he is an actor. everything he did was wonderful. he believes what he believes. i thought it was fun. >> senator rubio? >> he is great. i just told my husband, who was the guy before romney? he was really good. >> we have the michigan delegation, and this is a souvenir from michigan you are going to take back your home state. >> we are taking it to republican headquarters so as we make phone calls, remember, we helped nominate our home town boy, mitt romney. >> can it romney win michigan? >> i think he can. i think him being born and

of the politicians have a vote in that process, so if we are truly advocating for the needs of the american people, i think all elected officials participate in that process, so i think when we say he is not successful, is it is a reflection on all parties, not just the president, and secondly, i was listening to mr. romney give his speech, and as we spoke about freedom and how we define america, he was talking about how they came to better looking for a life. the native american came to the country and had a different experience. i think when we talk about the future of this country, there are some cultural issues in our
