having to pay full price. that is kind of scary at first until i realized that obama care allows you to get your name brand drugs at half-price. i will save approximately $1,500 this year thanks to obama care. i would say that my life depends on these medications. without the savings, i would have to make a decision on whether or not to take those medications at all. the affordable care act is the most important legislation that has come before the american people as far as health care is concerned that they are going to close the doughnut hole in the next few years. and then it is going to be even better. we all need this plan. all of us need health care. we are all in this together.

>> please welcome carol berman of west palm beach florida. >> i am so proud to be at the democratic national convention from florida. i am one of the seniors that retired into this piece of heaven on earth and i was happy as a clam. but it is not just the sunshine. it is obama care. i am getting preventive care for free. and my prescription drugs for less. but the republican plan has made terrified. not just for me, but firm by three married daughters that are in their fifties.

if governor romney gets into office, the medicare they have earned him returned into a voucher care. seniors will get a voucher to purchase health insurance. but the vouchers won't keep up with the costs. it could push people in the private insurance plans. even though many seniors who are on fixed then come would have to pay up to an additional $6,400 more a year for out of pocket costs, on top of that, he is threatening to repeal obama care on day one. thousands of dollars might be pocket change to them, but it is a lot of money and my family. it is birthday presents for my grandkids and an airline flight

to visit them. republicans are trying to end medicare as we know it, but we are not going to let them. we have worked for our medicare, we have paid for our medicare, and we have earned our medicare. i am proud to have been born the same year that social security was. it was the most important lot of my lifetime. and medicare was pretty great, too. but now we have obama care which preserves the promise of medicare and aecure retirement. like i tell my daughters, let's vote like our lives depend on end. because they do.

but no matter the background, i went to a lot of schools, great parents that made me do my homework. i am a first generation graduate of wake forest university. my parents paid for my education on a patchwork of grants and loans and savings. in the same way we finance my son's college education. it is the same way middle-class parents everywhere do it. education is the key to a strong middle-class and a successful

future. that is why i support president barack obama. he has made the single largest investment in higher education ever. after graduating college, i struggled as a single mom i was working every day just to pay the bills. i did not have health insurance. and days of what i thought was a cold, i ended up in an emergency room with pneumonia. the hospital bills were overwhelming and as a result, i almost lost my home to foreclosure. i found myself at a local food bank. i support president barack obama because he gets its. he knows that no one should end up in an emergency room facing

financial ruin and the loss of middle-class life. my middle class live just because they can't afford a doctor's visit and the $20 whole batch of antibiotics. president obama changed that. he changed that with the affordable care act. here is the bottom line. i have got a lot of challenges ahead of us. president obama is solving them in a way that protects and helps families like mine. that is why i am fighting for helm just like he has been fighting for us. are you ready to fight for him? thank you very much. ♪

threaten there is ha? or why governor romney thinks it is a bad thing that the president ended the war in iraq, but let's stick to the central theme of the economy. we need to do more to get the economy back. we inherited the worst economy in 80 years from the republicans and we have been improving in over their objections and their obstruction. we would like to move quicker. when argument is that the republican nominee, because of his private business experience is a superior job creator. if we elect him president, he will use those private-sector skills to bring many more jobs. we have had an experiment in that. he was governor of the state i lived in. if his private sector experience makes him the super hero of job

creation, we would have seen that in massachusetts. in fact, the record is that during his term, our job growth was only about 1.4%, a quarter of the national average. we were forty seventh in job growth. in fact, i represented an area in massachusetts proudly. it has been hurt by national economic trends. we want health to get the commuter rail for the northern part of the state. we want to get wind energy project that and we want all these things. the under governor romney, we got no help, and n jobs, and i was puzzled. i wondered, how, as i hear about the great ability of this wizard of private-sector financial engineering to create jobs that

we didn't get any at the realize, here is the problem. this is a hard one for me because of my addiction. it turns out our governor was mitt romney and we should have had miss romney. miss romney is a wonderful private sector executive that when he moved into the public sector can transform it. i wish that was the governor. we had to wait to get that started. maybe as a democrat, i should be grateful that we got mitt. if he did all the things we a and were told he could do, he

would've been reelected overwhelmingly. that might not have been good for the democrats but not following the image mcconnell view that your party's advantage is more important than the economic well-being of the constituents. he did the democrats a favor. not the state. after four consecutive republican elections when he ran for reelection, he was afraid the run for reelection and got his lieutenant governor to take the fall and the republicans have not won a major election in statewide office cents. that jobn't get experience and we can't look to the past to be reassured, let's look to the future. there is the governor romney that was going to be better on gay-rights. another is the candidate that

checks with rick santorum. there was the raw meat that was for climate change. have from at what we the candidate running for president. he has now basically committed himself to repeat every failed and a mistaken policy that the republican party employes to bring our country into the greatest recession in years, in which they have followed through tried to retard the recovery. there is a reason for it. for all the talk of how he understands the private sector, he has no understanding whatsoever of the public sector. of course we want to prosper as a private sector. this is full of people that have been successful in the private sector can do that, entrepreneurs and business people. sensible people know that you need a public sector to do those

things that the private sector isn't meant to do. to deal with quality of life. there are things a civilized society needs that we can only do if we do them to gather. that is why governor romney opposed the effort to keep the automobile industry going because he failed to see the importance of a private sector- public sector cooperation. that is why he belittled the concern for public employees and the services that they provide. we have had millions of private sector jobs created, but unemployment is higher than it should be in part because hundreds of thousands of hard- working public employees have been let go. finally, there was the financial

sector. the single biggest cause of the economic collapse was the failure of the republican right wing and unfortunately some democrats joined in to allow the public sector to regulate the private sector. i want a strong financial community, but i don't want some prime loans being given to people that can't pay them back. i don't want derivatives engaged in in countries that can't back up when they get in trouble like aig. i want a consumer effort to protect the saver and a borrower from abuse. i don't want to municipalities to be advised by unscrupulous people that get them into trouble and lose money. we began, in 2009, to put in place a set of rules to prevent the kind of abuse that led to the economic disaster.

he opposes all of that. he has called for the of -- repeal of financial form, allowing about regulated financial community to go back to where they were. every mistake the republicans made to bring us into trouble, resisting getting out of trouble and to keep us from getting into trouble again, rummies supports -- romney supports. when the kingdom of france came back into power after the revolution, they began to make the same mistakes they had made before. someone said they appeared to have forgotten everything. someone said, they couldn't forget anything because they never learned anything. the current deep party dominated republicans not only hasn't learned from the mistakes of the past, they are determined to repeat them. we will not let that happen. thank you.

next four years will affect us more than anyone. and on november 6, we are going to send barack obama back to the white house. because of the president's affordable care act, 3.1 million young americans who were previously uninsured can stay on their parents' health insurance. mitt romney and paul ryan want to take back coverage away. president obama double the funding for pell grants. romney and ryan and would cut scholarships that are critical for creating opportunities for those that need them most. this president, on so many issues -- immigration, lgbt

rights, women's health, he proves that he cares about all of us. he will keep expanding opportunities. as a young lgbt latina, it seems to me that mitt romney only cares about an elite few. mitt romney recently called my generation a lost generation. he is wrong. but we know exactly where we are going forward, not backward. we are going to register voters, knock on doors, turn out the vote, and don november 6, reelect our champion, president barack obama.
