i'll be very brief. before you do the oath of i want to say this is a proud day for jim comby, for patrice, and for his five for president obama, for attorney general holder, and this judge who hired jim as the first law clerk 28 years ago. an even prouder day for the men and women of the fbi and who care about this premier law enforcement agency, fbi ding all of the former directors and former attorney generals, many of whom are here today. ever since our year together, which was great fun, by the way, we both learned our new jobs, i've told jim who's 6'8" as you see, to watch his head. -- jim didn't b need prompting from me.

guy. a modest he's always been serious about his work. but at core, he's never taken too seriously. after that first year, i had high expectations for jim, that exceeded is due in no small part to the open enerous modest kind of person that he is. jim, of course, is a fine hardworking and smart. but he's also a natural leader inspires those around him. his ability to inspire has been vident throughout his remarkable career in law enforcement. s a decorated assistant u.s. attorney in new york and virginia, u.s. attorney for the york, rn district of new deputy attorney general under -- ashcroft and al the bush administration, he has chieved but one thought was pinnacle of the law enforcement career. and now this. experience, all of this past experience that jim has had makes him particularly

on children to breaking up al cells to disrupting activities, thwarting the plots. expanding. keeps the nature of the threats are always changing. nfortunately, the resources allotted to that mission has been reduced by sequestration. i'll keep fighting for those resources because our country asks and expects a lot from you and we should make sure that you have the resources that you need to do the job. especially when many colleagues could put your lives on the line nations. the least you can co-do is make sure you have the resources for operations are not disruptive because of politics in this town. good news is things like judgment, adership, and compassion, those resources least, ntially, at

inexhaustible. it's critical to seek out the best people to serve them. folks who have earned the public trust. judgment.excellent even the most difficult circles. those that possess not just a law, but ledge of the also a moral compass that they and we can always count on. hat's what you have in jim comby. i'll tell you, i interviewed a number of extraordinary candidates for this job. all with sterling credentials. but what gave me confidence that this is the right man for the job, wasn't his degrees, wasn't to resume, it was in talking him and seeing his amazing family, a sense that this is right y who knows what's and what's wrong? and is willing to act on that
