legalizing. act of they were angry with him. i got angry with them. this black president hasn't done anything for his own people. he has, and i don't want to get off subject here, but how dare the sus -- that his panics -- how dare the hispanics break the law in coming here to america. they are breaking the law. host: turning the election into a sports event. it's already over, folks. bye, harry. referring to harry reid. showing the steely resolve of the british leader, prime minister david cameron. next is lewis joining us from baltimore. good morning. independent line. caller: thank you for taking my call. i've been a democrat and
9:46 am
republican and i'm now independent. i retired as both a soldier and a teacher. watching the debate of the two strategists, it seems like the democrats are more willing to accept art of the blame -- part of the blame and be a little more open to discussing with the republicans -- they seem to be the old way, just straight ahead, not accepting any responsibility for what's going on. i think they are out of touch with about 80% of america. host: ok. justice antonin scalia also in attendance. he is roman catholic. the traditional mass at saint matthews cathedral. we are live outside the cathedral. al from texas is next, good morning. caller: yes, i would like to talk about no labels. it is getting to where everybody walks up and, it is either democrat or republican, not knowing the candidates.

i've seen this numerous times in my own local area. where do i put the d or r? d.ee more about the i think it is time we get to the no labels, to where we can -- they know the candidates instead of the party. this president wouldn't be here if it wouldn't have been for that. the: thanks very much for call. scott from belmont, michigan, good morning. caller: how are you? host: not too bad, how are you? . you had a guy calling -- caller: if you had a guy calling from georgia. there was the constitutional restaurant -- is that right? host: your point is? caller: the 16 republican congresspeople -- they said they were going to run the government like the taliban,

9:50 am
host: ok. thanks very much for the call. from "congressional quarterly," "cantor's top now?"-- where are they from michigan, mark is on the phone. caller: good morning. i'm doing ok. to -- ling in regards we have a big problem going on in our government, with our president and congress. you've got the president claiming you tell on me. the part -- the republican party says you tell on me, i tell on you. that is why the president has not been impeached. the president says, well, you tell on me and i will tell on you what you did when i was elected, the day i was elected, and you all gathered together and decided to inflict punishment on our country in order to make him a one term
9:51 am
president. and what they did to this country -- host: thanks for the call. william from georgia, good morning. caller: i'm calling to say that the real problem with everybody that is on the other side of the democrats is that we have a black president. and because of that, with him care, now aca, obama that ebola looks like it is coming into the united states, they want to get their worst -- they are going to get their worst nightmare. people are not going to the doctor. they are going to the er. they are going to wait until they get that fever. when they get that fever, they arty have ebola. host-- they already have ebola. host: coming up in about 10 minutes, senator jerry moran, a freshman senator, chair of the republican senatorial campaign committee. the kansasopics, senate race, where pat roberts is in a tough reelection battle.
9:52 am
here is a portion. [video clip] whoe have great candidates, we have recruited and encouraged and got people who would be great senators to run. we have candidates who can win in their state, not only the primary, but the general election. what's missing here? and this was a significant, intentional aspect of what we tried to do. when i started the attempt to raise money for our candidates for races, even before we had candidates, it was hard to get republican donors to get out the checkbooks. they had been through election cycles in which we didn't have success the people thought we should, and governor romney did not get elected president. so, my take away from that is what matters here is do we have something to market, do we have candidates that are going to appeal to donors. we are going to find out if that is true over the next 30 days. i don't go to bed worrying about what our candidates are going to say and what is going to be the headline in your papers tomorrow
9:53 am
morning. i go to bed at night, i try to sleep every night, but if i can't, i'm thinking about how are we going to make certain the candidates have the necessary resources to win. you're right. i don't know that i like -- i certainly would like to write. -- brag. i don't like talking about how we have not raised the money, but you are right, it is about $30 million different. your question is how does that happen. one thing we don't have this president obama, michelle obama, vice president biden, who, on a night, can raise $1 million, $2 million, and have done it dozens of times for the democratic campaign committee. >> the perception is that you guys are going to win. typically what we see donors try to do is front-run the results in november and they start opening their checkbook. are you going to start closing the gap?
9:54 am
>> we have donors who have been skeptical. i'm glad to hear you say the perception is that republicans are going to win. we've had that perception before, and it didn't happen. i think that republican donors are skeptical about one more time opening their checkbook. host: the full interview with senator jerry moran is coming up at the top of the hour, 10:00 eastern time on c-span's "newsmakers" program. continuing tore write that st. matthew's cathedral for the start of the st.mass -- to arrive at matthew's cathedral for the start of the traditional red mass. the headline this morning from "the washington post," "out of control -- how the world health organization failed to stop the ebola disaster." caller: good morning. -- they were why talking about having an id.
9:55 am
i'm 69 years old. i've never been out of state. i have a driver's license. when they take it away because i'm going blind, i won't have any identification. i don't have -- i've never been overseas. i think the children ought to be able, in south carolina, north carolina, ought to be able to use their college id to vote. they been using that for years. i don't know why they are changing that all of a sudden so that they can't vote. host: by the way, st. matthew's cathedral, historic on many fronts, also the site of president john f. kennedy's funeral mass in november of 1963. onlympromised "compromise leads to over letting -- overl oading bills. consensus can get is good legislation." good morning. caller: good morning.
9:56 am
i'm calling about the nfl game that would be clay -- will be played between the dallas cowboys and the houston texans. if they are so scared of this thea scare, why isn't commissioner canceling this game? host: why would they cancel the game? caller: because they claim that the government is not doing anything about this ebola scare. why should we have over 100,000 people getting infected? host: ok. let's watch the scene outside of safe bathrooms -- st. matthew's cathedral for just a minute. the first sunday in october, the traditional red mass, in advance of tomorrow's first day of oral arguments. let's watch for a moment. ♪
9:57 am
host: quick comment. we're short on time. caller: i would like to comment on eeb la and texas. and i'm wondering why we are very quick to leap frog and what do i mean by that. each state has its own public health system. they have their public health
9:58 am
infrastructure. ebola has conducted reviews at this hospital about two weeks earlier. then still when there's a problem immediately we leap frog from the states to the federal government. what happened in texas is a problem within the texas public health system. we have three patients that have been infected, come to the united states, been treated, been isolated, been cured, and then released. so this is not the panic around the united states, this is to look closely at what each state does, prepares themselves and owns up to their own
9:59 am
responsibility. host: thanks for the call. let me circle back to this headline from the dallas orning news. football one of the issues we've been talking about but also academics as we wrap up our big ten tour. on tuesday the president of the university of maryland and on wednesday we travel to new jersey. this week as we conclude our visit to 14 schools. part of our big ten tour. tomorrow, on "washington ournal."
