efforts to the ebola outbreak in west africa. >> i went to west africa for a ofk to oversee the elements the responsibility and visited all the countries that were endemic and in senegal where we are helping neighboring countries be protected in case they get a case. and when i came back, that was the week that there was a lot of media coverage and there was an understandable but palpable fear even in communities where my kids go to school, for example in washington, d.c. and wanted to know -- [laughter] they wanted to know. people now see that the science-based set of guidelines that the president has go forward in terms if you are at risk and you get actively monitored.

i was actively monitored by a wonderful, local official who called me twice today to get my temperature. a torture for 21 days. i do not need to be quarantined. i follow the protocol. you have to follow the protocol. the protocol is science driven and intended to keep us safe and intended if you get a fever after you have been to west africa, we know who you are. we have contact with you and public officials can trace you and your contacts. they are protocols, very important to maintain a protocolevidence-based that can help us be safe at home and calm and collected and encourage health officials to go to africa and come back safely and securely at no risk to themselves and community. >> you can see of our interview onh rajiv shah tomorrow c-span.

>> "zero to one" refers to an innovation or doing anything new where you do the first thing of its kind. the first word processor, first smartphone, first car, first plane. it has a connotation of breakthrough innovation that is a quantum leap rather than a small, incremental innovation. my book is about how as a society we need to be innovating more and really significant innovations that move the dial are the breakthrough. >> is silicon valley a zero to one, does it have a zero to one mindset? >> there is definitely silicon valley at this point is the center of innovation in the u.s. and i would argue the center of innovation globally. there are certainly a number of companies that have involved these significant breakthrou
