are now approved and are moving into the root of the internet. without question there's a lot of learning. we're convening in the next two months group of community members to work with and really meher, it's a bit early for to catalog. and it's not for me to catalog limits for the community including businesses. all of the work we do is obviously transparent so this will be shared public we and everyone will the how we can do better next time. i will give you an example. relates in our

effort to make sure that this program has diversity. and that those who may be around the world to not have the knowledge or the know-how to participates could of more easily participated. we tried to do some things in the late stage of the program that's quite frankly was a little too late. to get the diversity in the properties patient. program will, the reopen and at some point we will learn from many of the lessons are cataloging right now. there are some controversial elements of this program you there's no question this is -- we are -- change and innovation more often than not

bring about a set of new issues we did not expect. i think what is important is to see how we are addressing these understandea and to that it's not a top-down institution. while you and i may have a view on the appropriateness of the top-level domain, it is not for me or for any individual or even the board to make these calls, is we sendngs work it back to the community and have the community build consensus and come back to us question that should be asked of implementing the communities consensus guidelines? fail the not then i institution. i think thed's,

next round of this program will clearly be even more successful in that we will avoid some of the pitfalls that frankly maybe no one had even imagines because this is brand-new. it's new territory. some of the new top-level domains are making a big difference. expansion of non-latin script domains is bringing billions of people around the world who don't even have one script keyboards into domain names. that's fantastic. other top-level domains are providing people with authenticity. if you buy an extensive watch online from any domain, you may

have apprehension as to the source of the watch. but if you're buying and using this as an example and omega watch from a site that has as its top-level them in. omega has means the company omega itself and of that domain to a trusted retailer the new would hope that would get you much closer to authenticity of what you're getting. the catholic church is using the the system ensure that they've managed for hundreds of years of box that gives people a sense that institution and the website is actually associated with the death of church. there are many good values. taiwan, n.y.c.. paris.

their building communities top-level domains. there are many good things also that this program is bringing to the surface -- to the service of the user. finally, you are leaving your position earlier than resent? why? what's next? yearse turner was three and my term actually ended a few months ago, but we did agree me an extrauld give soway at the couple of years that i have a chance in the time to complete some of the major programs. it was not necessarily the intention that i, it was available to us into the community if needed.

i think we can to the determination that's indeed that was a good decision because part of the runway was needed. but that i won't need the full runway and i made the determination that march would be a sufficient time to complete of the major programs i have and i look forward to frankly solid continuity it i can. >> president and ceo of i can. >> in a little while we will have live coverage of pope francis at the festival of families in philadelphia.

guests and friends. the united states is an experiment in freedom, ordered by law and ordered to basic truths about the human person. the greatest good in the american character comes from our belief in a merciful god, a god that guarantees the dignity and rights of all his children. alexander hamilton was one of america's greatest founding fathers. he helped write the constitution at independence hall.
6:52 pm
he was also one of our greatest immigrants, born in the west indies, he was a friend of george washington. he fought in the revolution. he wrote nearly 2/3 of the federalist papers and set the united states on a course to become a world pattern. -- power. the lesson in his life is simple, this is a nation where no single group or class owns, it is a country where a person comes from nowhere nowhere can still make a difference. it is a nation where a man who never knew his own birthday, hamilton was born out of wedlock, can take part in a new order. he reminds us that immigrants from around the world renew this country in every generation. they breathe new life in the bosom of america.

we live in an odd time in history. when the church defends marriage, the family, the unborn child, and the purpose of human sexuality, she is attacked as being too harsh. when she defends immigrant workers and families broken by deportation, she is attacked as too soft. the church is neither of these. pope john the 23rd described the church as a mother and teacher of humanity. a mother that understands and loves the whole human person from conception to natural death, always consistently and everywhere. when it comes to immigration, the church reminds us that we

are all children of the same loving god, that makes us brothers and sisters, despite borders that separate us. and in arguing over borders to keep people out, we need to be vigilant against erecting those same borders in our hearts. my dear friends, the person who speaks that truth most powerfully is here today. i invite the holy father, a son of immigrants, to share thoughts with us now. pope francis. [applause] [cheering] [applause] pope francis: [speaking spanish] pope francis: one of the highlights of my visit is to be here at independence hall, the birthplace of the united states of america. it was here that the freedoms which define this country were first proclaimed, the declaration of independence, which stated that all men and

women are created equal. that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights and that the government exists to protect and defend those rights. these ringing words continue to inspire us today. even as they have inspired peoples throughout the world to fight for freedom to live in accordance with their dignity. but history also shows that these or any truths must constantly be reaffirmed, reappropriated and defended.

the history of this nation is also the tale of a constant effort lasting to our day to embody lofty principles in social and political life. we remember the great struggles which led to the abolition of slavery, the extension of voting rights, the growth of the labor movement and the gradual effort to eliminate every kind of racism and prejudice directed at the successive waves of new

americans. [applause] pope francis: this shows that when a country is determined to remain true to its founding principles, those principles that were foundational and based on respect for human dignity, that country is strengthened and renewed. when a country keeps in a memory and remembers, he continues to grow and be renewed and to assume and take into this -- its bosom new people. [applause] pope francis: all of us benefit

a great deal from remembering our past, remembering which remembers, does not repeat past errors. instead, it looks with confidence to the challenges of the present and future. remembrance fades a people's soul from whomever would it dominate it for its interests. when individuals and communities are guaranteed the exercise of their rights, not only are they free to realize their own potential, but they also with this, with their work, contribute to the welfare and enrichment of all of society.
7:00 pm
[applause] pope francis: in this place, which is symbolic of the american way of -- the model of the united states, i would like to reflect with you on the right to religious freedom. [applause] pope francis: it is a fundamental right which shapes the way we interact socially and personally with our neighbor
