caller: thank you. i'm here in jacksonville, florida. 2014. my mother in she was a patient here in jacksonville. they mentione anything about memory, she was doing fantastically. she was 96, and they said she 26 years younger than her chronic logical age. she was placed in the hospital to do an mri. it was very traumatic. when we got home that afternoon, all of a sudden, she said, no, i don't want to sit in the hospital. and herin the next day, primary care physician said, this is amnestic memory loss. my question is, how is that related to alzheimer's?
10:01 am
he did not say it was. when i was 16, and we were in a horrible automobile accident, i never remembered the accident. what is the deal here about a nesting -- amnestic memory loss? host: we will have to leave it there because we are just about out of time. amnestic means memory loss. your mother probably have the disease before she went into the hospital. she had been guarding her symptoms, and not displaying them quite as much. when she loses said offensive, the symptoms can appear that before. there the disease was in process already, and this uncovered it. host: that was creighton phelps,

thank you for being with us. explain what is going on here? clearly, i don't know if you've seen a lot of the reality shows, but they are making a temporary alliance to gaing up on what they see as the bigger threat, in this case, donald trump. host: there have been a number of polls showing john kasich is ahead, but only in the lower single digits. how strong is his support across the state? where is donald trump expected to do well? guest: like other states, it is hard to gauge where support is. there are so many new voters coming out for him. a lot of democrats are actually ballots pulll republican to vote for donald trump. show he is ahead, those polls could be
10:10 am
proven wrong if the so-called reagan democrats come out, and support trump. host: tuesday is significant because it marks the start of the winner take all states. 66 delegates at stake in ohio, correct? guest: that is correct. host: let me go back to the strategy of the marco rubio campaign encouraging people to ohio.or john kasich in guest: the john kasich campaign is irked at the rubio campaign that is beingad run against casing. when they got word that they were encouraging ohio voters to
10:11 am
theyfor kasich in ohio, reacted coolly. in ohio, it is getting a lot of interest both on the republican and democratic side. it has been pretty late to rise up. now we are in the middle of a 10 day hurricane here. host: the democratic candidates will be in columbus on sunday. hillary clinton and bernie sanders. the me ask what you expect on tuesday. does all of this tee up to what you are expecting in cleveland? guest: this is maybe the order

>> we are live at the dayton international airport, awaiting the arrival of donald trump. we actually expect to see the plane arrived just outside this anger. republican president joe candidate will then come down at speak to his supporters this event, taking place in a hangar at the airport. later on today, at new, another event. hillary clinton is in st. louis. we will have that for you on c-span as well. while we await for donald trump, we will show you an event with hillary and bill clinton's ,aughter, chelsea clinton speaking to voters in st. petersburg, florida. >> good afternoon, everyone. what a great crowd. i cannot tell you what an honor it is for me to be here today,
10:15 am
to be able to introduce chelsea. i had the honor of hearing her ak a couple of weeks ago. you are in for a treat. unbelievably impressive. i see a political future here too. [laughter] [applause] i know she is going to talk a as secretary.mom you know this, this is such an important election. we have a tracing candidates, havee are so fortunate to a good choice on the democratic side. one in particular. secretary clinton. she really understands the situation in this country and the world.
10:16 am
there is not any candidate better on foreign policy. for small businesses like greg and leslie, to understanding cities.and supporting it is not happening in washington, in tallahassee, it is happening here. that is why, for summary other elects too, we need to secretary clinton as president. [applause] without further ado, it is my deep honor and pleasure to introduce jesse clinton. [applause] thank you soon: much, mr. mayor, for that introduction. thank you to everyone for welcoming us and allowing us to
10:17 am
invade. although i spoke while the mayor -- sorry, i was standing while the mayor was speaking, but i because i am pregnant. don't take that as a reflection on my gratitude for all of you, taking time out of your busy day to be here, or my busy as of for my mom's campaign, i just hear head, tor's voice in my saying to not stand for too long. i think this is the most important presidential election of my lifetime. i feel that way for two reasons. the first is a deeply personal one. this is the first present n as aon i will vote i mom. i did not know that i could care more for politics or who was holding office, until i became
10:18 am
apparent. i have a 17 month old. or charlotte, at home, and i hope her little brother or little sister arrives safe and happy this summer. coming to events like this. in fact, i don't remember time in my life when i was not at a involved inlly or the campaign. for my dad, when he was running for governor, or whomever my parents were supporting, understanding that local leadership is really important. whomever was running to represent arkansas in the senate or the house, whomever was running as the democratic party standardbearer. this now feel so much more urgent to me. i'm so blessed to be a parent.
10:19 am
willw whomever we elect play a profound role in shaping the country, the world, and the future that my children and their generation will growth and -- grow up in. the second reason this is so important is because i worry care mostthing i wo about is at risk. i want to give you a few examples of that and wiping my mom is uniquely positioned to be a strong and effective president at this time. the first issue is health care. as you may have seen in the debate, my mom now jokes, and i think it is healthy that she can this, before it was called obamacare, it was called hillary care. i remember when she fought really hard for universal health care in the tonight 3-1994.
10:20 am
1993-1994. they did not work out. after that brutal experience, i think no one would have faltered her. she said, we cannot let the perfect be the enemy of the good. creating three years the children's health insurance program. it now ensures more than 8 million low income children, including more than 8000 here in florida. [applause] i say that because like in the early 1990's, republicans control congress. democrats are not expected to
10:21 am
win back the house, not in this election or the next election -- not in the near future. we have to present knows how to find common ground to make progress, particularly on the half of our most honorable, on behalf of americans who are left out, but behind, or not thought about in the political process historically. caree now at 91% health coverage because of the affordable care act. if anyone tells you the portal character does not matter, you can tell them, last year, because of the affordable care act, more women had prenatal care, and more women delivered in hospitals and safely with midwives than any point in history because of the affordable care act. the affordable care act matters. we need to protect it because
10:22 am
republicans are not passively opposed to it. repeal voted 53 times to it. we need to survive governors, like yours, who have not yet costs,d medicaid and cap and finish the work that my mom ago to lowerars drug cost. that is good for people on medicare, but good for the rest of us because it would be hard for the drug companies to look ey and charge us 3000 times what they would charge on medicare. republicans supported a similar effort in the v.a. system. we know that is common ground to be found. we know it is not only when it comes to health care that we have to continue to find common
10:23 am
ground. my mom is really the only person who is running for president on either side of the aisle the has a record of being able to work with republicans. whether on expanding health insurance or radically thehauling adoption in foster care system, something she did with a man named john delay, not exactly seen as a friend to democrats. because of their efforts, there are now 80% more children adopted out through the foster care system. she doubled federal funding for head start programs. she extended v.a. services to national guard men and women when they come home from serving overseas so that their families can be part of the v.a. system. she did that with republicans. we need a president who knows how to find common ground. my mom is only one running coup
10:24 am
has a real record of that. what someone has done is a good indication of what they will do. we also know we need a president who can stand their ground. i want to talk about couple points. the first relates to the supreme court. when i was here a few weeks ago, i had idea the supreme court would be thrust into the spotlight. the passing of justice scalia was a tragedy for his family, his colleagues -- justice ginsburg, who is about as far as justice spectrum scalia, has spoken really movingly about how he, more than anyone else, helped her to learn .he inner workings of the court
10:25 am
i think it is important for us, especially those of us who ,iolently disagreed, as i did with justice scalia on everything to have a sense of humanity. had revealed is why the supreme court is so important. if you listen to to my mother's opponent, he talks about the court mainly in the lens of campaign finance reform. it is usually important that we overturn citizens united. i think it would be hard to argue that my mom does not have a personal interest in that. citizens united was set up with one purpose -- to derail her 2008 present joe campaign. interest real personal
10:26 am
as well as an ethical interest in getting political money out of our system. we know the court is so important for more than just campaign finance alone. in 2013, with justice scalia on the court, the court vacated or overturned a core part of the voting rights act. we are seeing the conferences of that in this election. thereore restrictions -- are more restrictions in 2016 than any point in the civil rights act. we have gone back with more than 50 years. we saw in the week before 's passing, the court made the decision to the positionstay on coal plants and move the united states forward in the
10:27 am
fight against climate change. the court under justice scalia on guneven rulings control. if you listen to what the brady campaign, or moms demand action, the major gun-control efforts in our country, they believe the next time the court rules on gun control, it will be a defe definitive ruling, and this is shouldn-control can and look like in our country. [applause] week, when the court heard arguments against ifas law hb two, which,
10:28 am
upheld would not only restrict a woman's right to choose in texas, but it would deprive more than 25% of women living in texas access to health care. what is also important to organize about hb two is it is not singular. since 2010, there have been more than 300 loss past stretching a woman's right to choose. what planned parenthood says is about 50% or more american women will lose access to affordable, quality, and save health care. if you care about gun control, climate change, voting rights, a woman's right to choose, or women's health, or equity
10:29 am
because wealthy women in this country have always had choices, you have to care about the supreme court's recent history and current history. example. it is still legal in 31 states to discriminate against someone based on gender identity or sexual orientation. now that there is because it's usually rejected right to marry, at leased in theory, they could be fired, kicked out of their homes, deprived of health care. the court is likely to hear challenges to some of the laws next year. the court is only going to become even more relevant. we need a president who understands we do not live in a .ingle issue country we cannot treat our government as a single issue.
10:30 am
we have leadership now and president obama. i hope the senate does its job. favorite is my current hashtag. this issue is not going away. if you look at the average age of the court, and the average age historically at which judges have retired, the next president will likely appoint 2-3, maybe even for justices to the supreme court. this is hugely important. the year, but really, for for siebel future, and certainly for the next president. i think it is so important we have a president who knows how to not only find common ground and stand her ground, but make when in office,
10:31 am
and also not in office. missed the debate last night. i was doing events in jacksonville, but i have watched the other debates. i've watched the rallies and speeches. ofind almost a normalization hate speech deeply troubling. sexism, homophobia, and a worker's rights frederick -- rhetoric, and the list sadly goes on and on. the policy proposals that stem from that to build a wall, to kick out 11,000,000-12,000,000 hard. who are working
10:32 am
of americanlist muslims. my husband, who is jewish, heard was, his first reaction it did not work out for my lists, when there were based on religion. every american should have the same reaction. this is fundamentally un-american. [applause] president who not only stands up against that every day, and makes it clear that there isfor that rhetoric, but also a president who can make government work. i think my mother did that
10:33 am
successfully. she expected all of the entities around the world to know what was happening. secretary kerry continued that. i think that was very important. mans important that a continued it. it is also important that another secretary of state continued it. it will be harder for someone to handle that in the future, even for a secretary of state to tell the thousands of foreign service workers that, all of a sudden, no, they should not pay attention to women and girls. my mom set up a high level
10:34 am
position just to let people know what was happening to the lgbt community around the world. she set up a fast-track asylum when lgbt that persecutedre being and prosecuted around the world for their gender identity, who they love, what they are advocating, on behalf of, they can apply for asylum quickly, sanctuary inty and our country. secretary kerry has continued that. hard forwill be someone to dismantle in the future, to tell her foreign service officers that they should not care about the lgbt
10:35 am
community, or no, there is no longer a dedicated fast-track asylum process. understanding how to make government work, on behalf of our values, really matters in the present -- in a president. as proud as i am to be my mother's daughter, and grateful i am to the example she gave me growing up as a working mom because i watched her work so hard, whether as a lawyer, the first woman chair of the legal services program, or in her efforts to bring the first early public childhood education program, i never doubted that i was the most important person in the world to her. when i was getting ready to leave yesterday morning, i was talking to my daughter. i know she is only 17 month old, by showed her on a map where florida is. i said, i'm going to florida on
10:36 am
behalf of your grandmother because i think this campaign is so important to your future. i sit heresay here -- hereproud daughter, i sit as a proud mother. i want to think all of you for you haveort, all that done. those of you who already voted, thank you. i hope you will talk to everyone you know, or have met, or might meet between now and tuesday, what is at stake in this election, and how you are supporting my mom. thank all of you for all you are doing. we cannot do any of this without you. thank you so much. [video clip] institute. thank you for being here. guest: my pleasure. host: take us -- tell us about your stance on free trade. where do you see it? guest: the mission for center of trade policy is to inform the public and policymakers about the benefits of free trade and the costs of protectionism. a lot of institutions in washington that say they are for free trade, what they really mean is free-trade over there, opening export markets, open export markets keep ours closed. we recognize the benefits of trade liberalization, on the import side, what you can consume without having to produce that stimulates the economy. ,he choices consumers are given

nomination in 2008, they were tripping over one another to see who would reopen the nafta, our wto agreements to make it fairer for americans. it is not new, what is different this go around is the tenor is more strident. there isn't anybody really taking the other side. you would expect republicans to point out the benefits of trade to some extent. i imagine that will happen once the nominations are wrapped up. the general, there is a pivot toward the center. i would imagine the rhetoric will be toned down. host: have you seen a shift within the republican party from stronger support of free trade to less now, as evidenced by rhetoric we have been seeing lately? guest: in u.s. history, from the civil war, until 1934, republicans were the
