the momented after is that he performed fairly well in the debate. glenn: his apology was not scripted. apologize, one of the toughest things to do is address family members and mr. trump was part of the family. some of the toughest questions family, calling you on the carpet and showing you a pathway out. when i go into the underserved communities, the number one question is, "he has made the statements. how do you know he doesn't feel this way?" this is what talking with them is important. moderator: you are obviously not going to tell us if you support donald trump or not.
2:05 am
i do not want to spend the entire hour on this. you say you are a principled christian conservative. what is principled, christian, about inchinge back to a man who degrades women ? glenn: this is the moment about faith. an individual wants to repent, you give them the opportunity. i want to say, "i want to know what is in your heart." suffering and i want to be able to show that words mean things. moderator: if he declines the invitation, are you done? glenn: the invitation is out there.
2:06 am
people will be weighing in on what they think may happen with the nuclear deal. you told us that the chances are would cheat on the nuclear deal. that struck me as unusual. nobody expects a partner to cheat on them or hiring a contractor who will not do the work. this?oes this say about bennet: thank you for having me and thank you for tuning in. commissioner glenn, thank you for being here. with all due respect, there is no equivalence between a notract and trust does enter into this. i never trusted them.

, there isat i know enough uranium to make 10 bombs and they were close to breaking out with a nuclear weapon. plutonium reactor is filled with cement and they have inspectors looking at this program and i think we should be pushing back on this conventional threat. this was a difficult vote and it was the right vote to do. that, tor: opponents say this is a dangerous signal to give them something they wanted. >> what they got was money they

would have gotten because of the multilateral sanctions and the consequences of not doing a deal deciding when we wanted to attack and we have done this without firing a shot. legislationi have are -- sure they me to see, as we push back against this, how we would be better off. moderator: thank you. the recently-leaked hillary
2:09 am
clinton speeches have given us a new insight on her unvarnished dream ofncluding a open trade and open borders. i believe strongly in free trade. we benefit on free trade and there are groups of people who jobs displaced and we have not done a good job answering that. moderator: what about open borders? bennet: i do not know what it means. moderator: her dream is open borders within the hemisphere. bennet: i don't know what that means. onut border security folks the southern border and gave people a pathway to citizenship.
2:10 am
the only legislation that has passed either house of congress was this piece of legislation. a thing that really worries me isut the debate is that it and i dode being dad not want to allow the chinese to write the rules of the road. short, bute falling we should not turn our back on the rest of the world. moderator: you say that you ,vote on tpp o"
2:11 am
but what would you do to get the deal done? knows whatbennet open borders are and just is not going to address the issue. i want him to commit to saying that he opposes the open borders concept. not going through an immigration process. we know the common language and this is what frustrates people about politics. common sense prevails. door, whaty open does that mean? your door is open. senator to commit to
2:12 am
opposing the stance on open borders. moderator: should this be more open? how would you do it? glenn: i oppose tpp. we cannot give up our sovereignty. article 27 creates a commission of unelected bureaucrats who are going to be able to adopt rules and regulations without the united states eating able to intervene. moderator: any changes you want to make? open, we need to be transparent, stand up for the will of voters and america. moderator: a quick note. this sounds like a spirited drum circle. onhave protesters beating the outside of the building. we assume that they are
2:13 am
supporters of someone who was not on the debate stage. there is a 10% threshold. campaigns were invited to submit polls showing they had support of 1 in 10. ame are using the building as bass drum. gentlemen, if you are not able to hear the questions, ask us to repeat. we will do so. should the residence be allowed to ban fracking? glenn: no,. . bennet: no. moderator: who is the best and worst u.s. president of all time? glenn: i'm a fan of lincoln.
2:14 am
the worst is still to be determined. glenn. i agree with abraham lincoln was the best and i will wait on the worst. can i respond on open borders? ok. greg. -- great. moderator: can you name a republican you recall voting for? bennet: yes. moderator: for you recall? -- will you recall? mynet: who i voted for is business. moderator: you are off the hook. glenn: i believe that all votes are private. there has been an infringement of our rights and liberties.
2:15 am
moderator: what is the biggest leadership characteristic that you do not have? glenn: that i do not have? height. moderator: senator bennett, est leadership characteristic that you wish you had? bennet: i think i am developing patience. my kids would disagree. moderator: heads are shaking. bennet, we will begin with you, syrian refugees have been discussed. we are curious about your stance andt more syrian refugees
2:16 am
how to make a vetting process more effective. does the united states have a duty to let in syrian refugees? ienn: i don't -- bennet: don't think we do. we have to deal with the crisis in syria. it would be better if we took some. the burden of proof should be on the refugee. the vetting process is very thorough. have people who are reasonably concerned about those who are coming from that region of the world. is votingnot support an entire religion or all syrian refugees. that is not who we are.
2:17 am
it is times of difficulty where malues are tested and i an proud to take this stance again. moderator: does the united states have a duty? what would be the standard you would apply? providee have a duty to for the safety and security of the citizens who are here and i am concerned about the fact that we have not secured our border we half to have a way and i spent a lot of time in the underserved communities and our "bor participation rate is a d."
2:18 am
when you think about the black and brown population, one in five are underemployed and it is troubling. we need to understand this clearly before we add more people. it will hurt the people we are trying to help. >> do you support a religious barring immigrants? blanket bansupport and you have to use specific intelligence on how you can screen threats. explore the want to ongoing conflict.
2:19 am
russia is ahat partner. who do you side with? you have a commander in chief that has not clearly ole family need a better working relationship with our allies. russia has leverage because america isn't leading and, when america does not lead, our enemies filled the void. the first thing we need to do is what i will do as senator work to make sure that we are nationaldentifying .ecurity
2:20 am
is assad a partner? glenn: we need to work with identify the threats come up withe and a strategy. moderator: i did not hear an answer to that question. abandon the glad to let me makest and clear that i was part of the and of eight in the senate i would say he was an enemy of humanity. moderator: hillary clinton said
2:21 am
threat.rorism is not a it is not an uncommon theme. that terrorism does not endanger the economy? i don't agree that it doesn't endanger the economy or the society. i think it is important to keep constructive solutions and i would say it is not a threat. this ranks high in the public consciousness and it is the job of people to understand the fear and talk about what we are doing to try to address this . later in the conversation, i hope we have a conversation about isis, syria, and the
2:22 am
threat to the homeland, because people have a right to make a judgment of how safe we are. is a lot ofat there work that is left undone. moderator: now, an opportunity to engage one another again. you are not that talking over one another. glenn: i'm trying to figure out if my mike is on. bennet: it is their first amendment right. glenn: it is their right to do that. debate, theew clear republicans brought forward the resolution to oppose that. why did you filibuster it? bennet: i supported the deal and
2:23 am
i was voting for a deal that i think made the united states more secure and israel more secure. downans that we are facing a conventional threat in the region without an immediate threat of them acquiring a nuclear weapon. glenn: you talk about how inefficient government is. why would you allow the vote to occur? don't you think this should have been able to go up for a vote? bennet: i think that the reason was that i thought it was important for us to get to the vote. the rest of the world had endorsed the deal and they were waiting on the united states congress to finish the deal. the deal cannot go into effect without it and then the money
2:24 am
that was parked in other places would -- they could have built a bomb in secret. glenn: do you consider that a ransom payment, now that iran has access to millions to beef up their military? do you stand by that? bennet: the military was against the deal and they were benefiting from a black market in iran. there is nothing i have heard suggest that this payment that you described was ransom. the policy of the night dates of america is that we do not ransom hostages and we must not. i agree. the amount of money sent his
2:25 am
believed.what was i am a person in congress who has written pledges asian with people who have supported and opposed the deal. glenn: we don't need a speech. we have time, we will do another round of questions. bennet: i thought it was one question. he had four. moderator: you will get follow-ups. bennet: i want to go back to trump. and,alk about leadership when the vote is in front of you and people ask about refugees and that is the topic, shifting to competition on jobs is not an answer. apologize before you said he was unqualified to
2:26 am
be commander in chief and i agree with that. your position was strong, that night. you said, on television, that you were persuaded to his attacks on hillary clinton and that he would put her in jail. i wonder what changed. moderator: a question. bennet: as a father, i didn't hear an apology. he justified what he did by calling it "locker room behavior." moderator: all right. let him respond. this is an area where we agree. donald trump is part of the republican banner. a republican.t
2:27 am
.illary clinton has lied you have yet to say anything. when are you going to hold clinton accountable? bennet: i endorse tillery clinton. -- i endorsed hillary clinton. glenn: trump did something wrong and i called him out on it. has given away classified information. , on youry question is terms, with respect to , your answer has been to advise him to come and have a meeting. answer that, but you are giving a speech. i have suspended my endorsement
2:28 am
of donald trump. here is why. i'm answering the question. bennet: no. glenn: he asked me why. it is about repentance. it is about talking to a family member who did something wrong, looking them in the eye, saying you want to help, and, if you convince me that you have done that, i can't invite you back. you will not even call moderator: we're going to try and keep things moving here. our viewers are weighing in with their thoughts on the future of obamacare. as they answer the question, senator bennett, it was told to
2:29 am
me recently that is obviously not working. people on the state exchange are looking at a 20%-3% price hike next year. are you sorry for how it has played out for people? i'm sorry when anybody's health insurance costs go up. we had huge problems before we pass the affordable care act and we have huge problems today. there is not enough of a market, not enough competition. there is not enough transparency, not just in insurance but what hospitals cost, would cost -- what doctors cost. i believe we should be working in a bipartisan way to not just deal with the health care bill but deal with health care generally in this country, that
2:30 am
is what i've been trying to do and what i intend to do. what am not doing is repealing the affordable care act. more people in colorado have insurance and the had when we thethe bill -- passed bill. there are important steps forward and that we have to do is improve on it. moderator: what specifics for the individual plants? -- plans? bennet: i almost get no complaints my office about medicare. the complaints i get everything will they are from people who have paid their premium month after month to a private insurer and then their child gets sick, they seek to get a claim for filled, and the insurer keeps them on the phone until they
2:31 am
give up. , and ioken system believe that that only passes the first time that we should have a public option for people to be able to choose from if they want that and i still believe that. so you think the competition from a public option might -- bennet: from public, nonprofit and private. moderator: mr. glenn, you get a chance to talk about this come as well. at the same time we learned the marketplace plans were getting worse and said, we learned that employer plans were staying about the same price. how would you change the system without disrupting what is working about the health care system? glenn: he talked about complaints in his office, that is a key point. those are complaints in his office.
2:32 am
if you would talk to people outside of his office about the true pain that they are suffering when they are looking at potentially a 20%-40% increase. he keeps talking about health care, this is about health insurance. we need to use some common sense. when you are out there trying to purchase a good or service, set up it make sense to a system that decreases competition? thateed to have a system increases competition and that is what i think we need to repeal the affordable care act but immediately have something to replace it with. we need to have reform and we need to make sure we are doing things to encourage the market to grow. mr. glenn, the polling would suggest that you've been unable to fundraising to a level that
2:33 am
would make you competitive in this race. i asked you about your lackluster and raising during the primary debate and you said there were great, secret on raising numbers that were going to come out and prove i had asked a bad question. you finished dead last in fundraising. glenn: you judge things on fundraising -- moderator: i'm asking you a question about honesty, those voters relied on your honesty. glenn: i'm here because of fundraising. you equate millions of dollars of special interest money and comparing it with michael bennet. most people have written me a check for $25. they believed in the for me to give me that when they were hurting.
2:34 am
look at the number of people who have contributed to my campaign that used their last bit of dollars because they have been praying over my campaign and the understand that unlike my opponent, i will come out there and talk to them, i will hug them, i will cry for them and pray for them. we'll make sure they have a voice in washington instead of having somebody that continues to put 98 percent of his time with -- --erator: i'm talking about why did you mislead republican voters into thinking there were secret fundraising numbers that were not there? you knew that was true when you said it before the primary. we were able to absolutely fundraising. aise.ndr they should give you confidence in the process that while i raced the least amount of money,
2:35 am
i am here. i be a lot of -- beat a lot of opponents feared -- opponents. have --r: our viewers get to choose the next topic. you can participate live with us to pick the topic. another question on donald trump versus clinton, infrastructure question and education. we will keep the polling open for a moment and look at the results. do you want a question about the presidential race, would you like to here the candidates on stage talk about infrastructure, or would you like to hear them talk about education? we are going to going to a question about infrastructure which handily won that. this will be to you both and it comes from and julie on
2:36 am
facebook. do you have any thoughts on how to fund america's aging infrastructure? , the onebsolutely thing we should not do is raise the gas tax. we need to make sure that the gas tax is being properly a -- e -- applied us i think have been frustrated with sitting on i-25 and i 70. we clearly have issues that we tot address and what we need be able to do is give states more of an influence over how to prioritize the transportation projects. moderator: you want to handle it more the state level? glenn: nice to be more flexibility at the state level
2:37 am
because they are more the source of the issues, they can work in local -- with local governments. we work these issues all the time at the county level. people come up with solutions, they just need the flexibility warner hands. -- more in their hands. all, we have of finally funded a long-term 24hway bill after 23 or short-term extensions. all done in the name of fiscal responsibility, i was pleased to the a chance to work with senator to make sure the bill got over the finish line in colorado got much-needed money. -- by thel the state way, you keep attacking me for not traveling the state, i would put my record of against anyone, including people who do not have to return to washington, d.c.
2:38 am
say, you might be right about some of that but there's one thing i know. because of something wrong in our politics and washington, d.c., we do not have the decency to maintain the assets and infrastructures of the roads and bridges that our parents and grandparents have a decent to develop for us, much less build the infrastructure my kids and your kids will need in the 21st century. go stand on a boat in hong kong harbor for 10 minutes and look at what the investment infrastructure looks like impaired what we are doing. that is why i work with republicans and democrats and independents to repatriate money that is stuck overseas, bring them back to the united states and build infrastructure. that cannot be done by one party alone. moderator: you are over your time. is an increase in gas taxes off-limits? we're far more efficient
2:39 am
cars on the roads than we did before. my answer to your question is my answer to your previous question, let us find a way to repatriate the $2 trillion stuck overseas and bring it back here and invested in infrastructure. you said we should not raise the gas tax. that is an important one. bennet: i don't think there is anybody here he would think you would raise the gas tax. moderator: i helped these will be shorter answers so we can get back to policy questions. senator, do you believe that a lot of mr. glenn supporters are deplorable, as hillary clinton said about donald trump? bennet: no, how is that for a short answer? moderator: is it undeniable that
2:40 am
mr. trumps candidacy has ignited inist, anti-semitic furor america? is that troubling to you and do you blame mr. trump? time tohen it came actually call the candidate out he said deplorable, he did not do it. are you willing to go on record and ask hillary clinton, and say she was wrong? will you say that? bennet: i didn't have to, she said she was wrong, she apologized immediately. glenn: leadership means you don't need to take a poll, you actually do it when it happens. moderator: we only have so much time that we can spend arguing. i do want to talk about -- it was indeed three words long. senator bennett, you voted with -- republican party
2:41 am
president obama 96% of the time. you expect to continue to be in lockstep with senator schumer? becausei don't know, that does not capture the bipartisan work that i've done. this is why have a reputation for being one of the most bipartisan senators. colorado ist to that i will continue to serve in exactly that in way if i am privileged enough to have another term as your senator. my record, whether it is the work we did on immigration, the work on reforming the fda, the work on the arm bill, the work on no child left behind -- i believe it is my job not only to represent the people that vote
2:42 am
for me but everybody in the state. entire primary campaign that he was running against democrats. there was an a single democrat he could work with. they would not vote for mitch mcconnell. the residents of colorado do not believe in that. moderator: we're going to continue -- understand. earlier in your -- moderator: earlier in your campaign, you talked about how you are sick of republicans hing across the.
2:43 am
i will work with anybody who wants to put the country first. let us do a little math. my opponent has voted in lockstep with the administration 97 percent of the time and yet he says washington is broken and in gridlock. let us use a little common sense. if he has voted with the administration 97% of the time on a bipartisan basis, things should be fine in washington, right? rate, have a 97% success using your own math and using your theory that human bipartisan, than we should have budget passed, we should be able to get everything funded, we should be able to deal with the press. this is one of the reasons i want to repeal, core, because core, usly -- repeal common
2:44 am
because obviously we cannot do math. i am denouncing the whole idea of republicans and democrats pigeonholing each other and trying to use leverage to get their way. i was specific with regard to his idea of being bipartisan is for the republicans to support the iran nuclear deal, to support the affordable care act, to the the epa regulations that are shutting down jobs. that is his idea of bipartisanship. why don't see him doing is actually leading, coming forward with solutions that will actually help build the economy. he talks about repatriating money, the best way to do that is to reduce our corporate tax rate. will you support a reduction in our corporate tax rate to bring the dollars back here so we can use them? bennet: that is actually what my bill does.
2:45 am
and let me just say -- moderator: i'm going to move on. asked, unity, our country is based on it and the candidates continue to separate our country. i would like to know what each of you would do to heal the divisiveness and bring unity to the country. glenn: jason, thank you for asking a very important question. i do not like the tone of this campaign. i think it is extremely important bring immunity leaders, law enforcement, and policymakers together. there are real differences that we must be able to talk about. i can tell you, i spent a lot of time in underserved communities. and as a person who has been stopped because of my skin color, that israel that -- that
2:46 am
pain is real. that our inability to come together is what is wrong. i hope that senator bennett agrees with me that we are going to keep this race not about people's character, we will focus on the issues, because anil think that is right. we live in the greatest country out there but we need to respect one another, and that is what i turned about. i will hold myself accountable to that. senator, what you do to heal the divisiveness? bennet: i respect the voters of colorado because i say the same thing to you in my primary elections i say in the general election, and what you just heard appear with the opposite of what he said in his primary election. i care about that because i worked really hard in the time i've been in the senate to build ridges with people on the other side of the aisle to get
2:47 am
results for colorado. so the people with leukemia who did not have drugs who have them now as result of the work i did with a republican from north carolina. the work i did with a republican from tennis i, never -- tennessee, never demonizing the other side. making things better for children and teachers and their schools. we have had horrible rhetoric coming from the top of the ticket on the republican side about immigrants to this country . i have tried to send example. -- set an example. the thing i can't abide are people who just want their names in lights. there is a lot of anger because of national
2:48 am
politics, is there anything you would say? answer,i gave you an because there are people in congress who do not play teddy politics.- petty they get up every day to get work done. that is not speculative, that is what i have done the last seven years. glenn: the wind the person at the top of your ticket does something wrong and talks about deplorables, you need to call them on it. it was requested that what voters say are the number one issue, jobs and the economy. please cite to specific builds -- bills that you think would lead to more jobs. bennet: the infrastructure bill that i sponsored, that is an
2:49 am
important thing for the private sector. and the bill i just mentioned with the fda. the companies developing these new drugs are all private companies. the problems they faced across the country was that they could not raise enter capital anymore in the united states, it was all going to europe and asia because of the regulatory uncertainty caused by the fda. i worked with the republican from north carolina to change the way the approval process works. 1-2 drugs perthat year would be approved, 50 drugs have been approved. i can't remember the number of bioscience companies, that i companies, we0 have thriving bioscience come -- companies here we need to protect. moderator: mr. glenn, to
2:50 am
specific bills you advance the private sector to create more jobs. when you're out there talking a small business owners, it is crushing them to have to deal with the affordable care act. we need to repeal the affordable care act and have a replacement in place that is extremely important, the other thing i am hearing when i go and talk to , they need regulatory reform. the war on coal israel. we are shutting down -- the war on coal is real. we are shutting down an entire industry. mr. bennett continues to have a war on coal, shutdown communities, and then he will double down on his work for the affordable care act, which then incur a 40%rying to
2:51 am
premium increase. inc. about trying to pay -- think about trying to pay your bills when you have lost your job and your premiums go up 30%. moderator: a lot of folks wanted us to talk about guns tonight. trump has said that hillary clinton wants to abolish the second amendment, something she is never said. maybe she shouldn't say that. she has made it very clear, and it is a very eye-opening when you talk about the types of justices she would support, they would infringe on the commitment rights. if you are trying to say that she did not say that, actions the louder than words. she continues to try to threaten the second amendment right of law-abiding citizens. moderator: there is interpreting
2:52 am
and putting limits on their, which exist today. to think you equate that with abolishing, to want to put limits? tells us that she did not lose e-mails, that she had a doeste server, that she not take responsibility for that, she is all over the map. maybe we should be looking at her credibility. the one person not holding her accountable is michael bennet. moderator: i'm hoping for some straight talk about gun control, senator. there were some really interesting research and work around guns and crime, looking at numbers. assault rifles are always the bogeyman, and if themselves caopped tomorrow, ameri
2:53 am
would still have billions of guns. what sort of confiscation would actually make an impact short of that? bennet: any and all restrictions on the second amendment are unconstitutional. no amendment is absolute. i am a strong supporter of the second amendment. i don't think that anyone in this audience should be able to wave their guns around your what i strongly support is a national form of background check. if you look in 2015 after the law was passed here, there were roughly 300,000 people applied for a gun, 2.2% were denied. among them were murderers, rapists, and kidnappers, domestic abusers, it is hard for me to hear an argument that is we would be safer if those folks
2:54 am
had guns. moderator: if you're not going to confiscate -- would make ank it difference because it is cap guns and colorado out of people who have committed crimes. you hear people say that none of these laws would make a difference in what happened in orlando or dallas, that is an excuse for not doing anything. if we can keep them out of the hands of someone by doing a background check, and by definition that means it is not taking someone's gone away -- gun away, this is the point when someone is applying. moderator: thank you. a couple of questions before we get to your closing statements. senator bennett, initiating is overblown this year -- an issue you think is overblown this year? bennet: i tell you an issue we
2:55 am
are not paying enough attention to, and that is education. at the presidential level, you hear nothing about what we are doing to support teachers and students and principles. glenn: i am glad he brought up education because he likes to distort my record. i would like to know whether he will stand here and support vouchers, especially for people in underserved areas that need that. moderator: we must go to closings now, you get your time by a flip of a coin. one minute. bennet: thank you very much for moderating the debate and thank you to the audience here and at home. it is been a great privilege to be your senator over the last term. it has not been a great privilege every single day when your people back there who by definition cannot agree with the other side just because they might be republicans or might be democrats. i have very little patience for that, i have a track record of , fromst year -- six years
2:56 am
before i was even in politics, and that is a willingness to work with absolutely anyone for the benefit of the next generation of americans and the people coming after that. this is the most wonderful state in the most wonderful country in the world and when i travel the state, it fills me with optimism, and what i want is politics worthy of the aspiration we have for our tears and grandkids. that is the example i've been trying to set as your senator and what i will continue to do if you give me the privilege again. i like very much if you would cast your vote or me. glenn: i want to thank all of you very much and i want to inc. senator bennett -- thank senator bennett. we were talking about issues, and i hope we will continue to show that we can do this in a respectful manner because i am concerned about the tone of this campaign. i am concerned about everyone of
