president obama was in las vegas this evening campaigning on behalf of hillary clinton. he also took the opportunity to talk about the u.s. senate race in nevada. here's a portion of his remarks. pres. obama: on issue after issue, nevada, you have a clear choice. if you care about immigration reform, you can vote for a presidential candidate who sees immigrants only as criminals and rapists, a family never heard of people like kevin and his grandfather, or you can vote for the granddaughter of an immigrant, who believes that everybody deserves the chance to contribute to this country that we love. if you care about criminal justice reform and disrupting the pipeline from underfunded schools to underfunded jails,
9:48 pm
and helping people serve their time to rehabilitate themselves and become productive members of society, you can vote for an outstanding prosecutor and attorney general who has worked to make the system fairer and safer, or you can vote for the other guy. actually, there is one other difference between the -- cap are never supported donald trump. she never said he had high hopes she would become president, never said she would trust his figures on the nuclear codes. there on the record. now that's trumps poll numbers -- now i am not
9:49 pm
supporting him, too late. you don't get credit for that. -- it to make a point here know a lot of republicans. i have republican friends. whove members of my family are republicans, and they don't think the way donald trump does. i am not generalizing about all republicans. here's the thing -- four years, ,epublic -- for years republicans and media outlets have pumped out all kinds of gradient -- crazy stuff about me , about hillary. they said i wasn't born here. they said climate change is a hoax. they said i was going to take everybody's guns away. weresaid that when we doing military exercises that we have been doing forever,
9:50 pm
--denly this subplot this this was a plot to impose martial law. this is what i have been saying for years now. if the world that they have been -- still in what is against the middle that i come and impose martial law, even though i can't talk without a prompter. [laughter] pres. obama: then is it any they would go for donald trump? there are a lot of politicians who knew better. there are a lot of senators that knew better, but they went along with these stories because they figured this would help ryan
9:51 pm
lochte base and give them a hundred -- give -- this would help rile up the base and give them a political advantage. they stood by and did nothing, and their base began to believe this crazy stuff. donald trump did not start this. donald trump did not start this, he just did what he always did which was slap his name on it, take credit for it, and promoted. that is what he does. [applause] pres. obama: now when suddenly it is not working and people are saying this guys kind of out of sudden, these republican politicians who were
9:52 pm
ok with all of this crazy stuff up to a point, suddenly they are all walking away. when you finally get them on tape bragging about actions that qualify as sexual assault and his polymers go down, son -- and his poll numbers go down, suddenly that is a dealbreaker. what took you so long? years you have been idolizing ronald reagan, and suddenly her presidential toinee is looking up vladimir putin, a former kgb officer, that was ok. official thatn says you love the constitution
9:53 pm
-- they say hillary and i are involved in unconstitutional measures, involved in power grabs, but they say they are ok jaila candidate who will reporters, but his candidate in jail about the process, apparently has not heard of the first, fifth, and 14th amendment. why would you support him? why didn't you offer had your pocket constitution like captain khan's father did? all these years you said you , but why family values did you walk away months ago when you heard your nominee for president, the guy you are hoping to become president, call
9:54 pm
rate takes, dogs, slobs, them out of their character or intelligence, but on a scale of 1-10? you don't have to be a husband or father to stand up for women, for our daughters. have a't have to disability to say it is wrong to mock somebody with a disability. you don't have to be a muslim to stand up for our fellow citizens who are just as patriotic as we are. you don't have to be a democrat to think there is a problem with that, you just have to be a decent human being. [applause] pres. obama: i mean it. now the excuses they are using for why they should be elected trumpbe awaited support
9:55 pm
and now we are being quiet about it, but you should vote republican anyway because we will check hillary's power, we will be a counterweight. no no no no. they have been in charge of congress for the last six years, basically. what have they gotten done? how do they help to? pace minimum to wage increases, they weren't for that. they were for immigration reform -- they were not for immigration reform. they were not willing to support early childhood education measures. we could be putting guys to work right now, gals to work right now, hard hats on, building nevada, creating jobs all across this great state. they have not done that. i have asked them.
9:56 pm
although for them is basically more gridlock. that is their argument. that is not a good argument. , catherineter issue cortez besser was going to be on your side working for you. her opponent is going to have koch brothers online one and donald trump online to -- on line two. even after rescinding his endorsement of trump, he said "i want to support them, i really do." really? how does that work? you are for him, but you are not for him, but your kind of for him. what the heck? [applause]
9:57 pm
you can't adjust the things that he stands for what are undermining our democracy by saying he may not even accept the results of election. and then say you wish you could sick with them. that is not leadership, that is cynical. you will say anything or be anybody just to get elected, depending on what is convenient at the time, that is not what america needs. you need someone who stands for principles. [applause] you need members of congress with principal, like jackie rosen. if you want that kind of representation, then you have to vote, because there is
9:58 pm
only one way to lose this election -- if you fold your hands and don't vote. you have the ace underneath. if you don't turn it over, you will lose. so you have to vote. >> this is my first time voting. pres. obama: good, i am proud of you. ,e need more first-time voters and we need second time voters, third, fourth,, and six time voters. do it big. don't leave any doubt. donald trump is already talking about how the game is rigged. i have to say that means he is losing. [laughter] start -- if if you you have ever played about small
9:59 pm
game, and halfway through the middle of the game, suddenly therset saying the racks -- refs are making me lose and i'm going to walk off the court. that means you are losing. that means you don't have what it takes to do this job very there are a bunch of times where it gets tough. in the air are a lot of times when things don't go your way and you have two hang in there. the way hillary will hang in there. the way catherine has hung in there. don't have to tell you this but i will tell you anyway. your governor is a republican. you have a republican governor statesmost all of the like florida, ohio, north carolina, georgia, iowa. governors from texas, arizona,
10:00 pm
in every polling place there are democrats and republicans watching how the ballots are filled out and how they are turned in. there are republicans and democrats watching how they are counted. if this is rigged, boy, it would be a really big conspiracy. governor isblican not going to rigged an election for hillary clinton or rigged an election for catherine. part.rget the rigging you know what is going to win this election? you are. we have made so much progress despite the forces of opposition and discrimination and the politics of backlash. we have made progress. we have not gotten everything done, with more work to do. there are still folks out there struggling
