5:53 am
very, very bad state of condition. it had the foundation for success, all of the elements were here. our job was to restore its former glory, on honor its heritage, but also to imagine a brand new and exciting vision for the future. to create a new place for people and families to come together and a magnificent place at that. i have been very lucky and i have led a great life. now i want to give back to the country which i love so much and has been so good to me. i want to go into the inner cities and the poor rural communities and failing schools and i want to work on a revitalizeation. i'm tiredor excuses from our politics and tired of being told what cannot be done. i'm told of people asking americans to defer their dreams
5:54 am
to another day but really what they mean is to another decade. enough waiting. the time is now. we can achieve our goals for this country and we can do so more quickly than anyone ever thought possible. there is nothing we cannot accomplish. the united states is great. it's great. its people are great. there is no task or project too great. there is no dream outside of our reach. don't ever let anyone tell you it can't be done. the future lies with the dreamers, not the cynics and the critics. everywhere i go in this country, all i see is untapped potential waiting to be set free. and the biggest element of all is our incredible people, the people of this country. they are just waiting. they are waiting and waiting and i think maybe now their
5:55 am
time has come. but we will realize never that the potential we continue to put in our faith and the faith of our country and we sa v to say the word never will always have to be taken out because we have such tremendous potential. we have to choose the most optimistic path. we have to choose to believe not our politicians that in many cases truly don't know what they are doing, but to believe in ourselves and in our country. if we do that, anything is possible. i'm asking america to join me in dreaming big and bold and dream for wonderful things in our future. let's close the history books on the failures in washington and let's open a new chapter of success and prosperity for all of our people.
5:56 am
we have a divide nation, a seriously divide nation, all of our people. that is how we will truly make america great again. thank you very much. i greatly appreciate it. [applause] so we're now going to lobby. i want to thank in particular now the employees, the construction workers, and all of the people that worked so hard to make trump international a reality. this will be one of the great
5:57 am
hotels anywhere in the world. i want in particular to congratulate ivanka. because ivanka -- this was her baby. she worked so closely with the g.s.a., great, great professionals. the g.s.a. people are amazing professionals and work long and hard for years and this is the culmination. so ivanka, congratulations. melania, thank you so much with putting up with all of the time and all of this effort and we're going to now be cutting a ribbon and maybe what we'll do is have some of the folks -- why don't you bring them up. come up on stage. that's so beautiful. i've never seen scissors that look so beautiful before. that's great. that's beautiful. thank you to the employees. it is all about service. it is all about loving what you do.
5:58 am
so many of them have come up and thanked me. they now have long-term jobs. many, many jobs and long-term jobs and we're going to -- we're really looking to make this one of the great hotels turnover country, but i think it is going to end up being one of the great hotels of the world. we have the finest location and we have the finest building. building built in 1889. that is when this was a very, very powerful rich country, when money was no object. they built the post office with big, big dollars. and the walls are sometimes -- you'll take a look when you see them. some of the exterior walls are five feet of solid granite. five feet thick. it is really quite a place and we're honored to have been given the opportunity. so this is for many, many years of success msm many, many years of great jobs and i just want to thank everybody for your hard work and for being here
5:59 am
today. thank you very much. [applause]
6:00 am
mr. trump: ready? many, many years of luck and happiness. 1, 2, 3. [applause] >> on election day november 8, the nation decides our next president and which party controls the house and senate. stay with c-span for coverage of the presidential race, including campaign stops with hillary clinton, donald trump and their surrogates and follow keys -- key house and senate races. c-span, where history unfolds daily. mcmullin is an
6:01 am
independent presidential candidate and mindy finn is the independent vice president of candidate. let me begin with you by the numbers. how many states are you on the ballot and how many do you votes? for write-in >> we will appear on the ballot of 11 states and then we will be registered as a right in the number of others that will total, including the ballots where we have secured on the ballot, 43 to 45 states by election they. the vast majority of americans will be up to vote for us -- will be able to cast a vote for us. reaching 270 votes by november 8 is going to be very difficult evan that we are three-month presidential campaign and as a result, related circumstances, but our strategy is different.
6:02 am
not our strategy. our strategy is to win as many states as we can in hopes that if the election is close between hillary clinton and donald trump, we could block them both and prevent them from gaining the threshold. in that case, the election would go to the house of representatives where we like our chances. youindy finn, utah, where are today, is it not voted for a democrat ends 1964 -- since 1964 and with mike pence campaigning as part of the trump-pence ticket, it is very much in play. why? >> utah is a conservative state and donald trump is no conservative. throughout his entire adult life, he was liberal on abortion, health care, the second amendment. he changed those positions to run as a republican.
6:03 am
republican. in the primary in utah, they rejected donald trump. they had concerns about him from the beginning. it is impacting their views on the republican party. more so than republicans, they are conservative. we're the only conservative ticket in this race. we're standing on principle, foundational constitutional principle and that is whether gravitating toward our. >> campaign. >> evan mcmullin in "the new let me go back to your earlier point. what role do you and your running mate want to play and where do you see the future of the gop heading? >> we definitely believe our role will be the part of a new conservative movement, the very movement we are building here as part of this election. the question is, what role will that movement play? some possibility, we believe the republican party may reform after this election. but having both had direct experience with that effort from within the party, we know how difficult it is an believe these are challenges that the party will face on a generational basis.
6:04 am
it is very difficult to imagine the republican party will be aftero shake off trumpism this election. these problems existed before trump entered the race. we knew about them after 2012. the party was not able to adapt. now that trump is have the success he has come even if he loses badly in the general election, the people were supporting him i think are empowered and will be empowered even after the election. so the reality is, we believe this conservative movement may need to take the form of a new political party. it is simply true that those of us who are constitutional conservatives who believe all men and women are created equal and we all have inalienable rights to the pursuit of happiness, and the government should be limited and only derives power from the people i know other source, those who fundamentally believe these things can in no way support a party that goes down the road of populism and white nationalism, which is where donald trump
6:05 am
would like to take it. if that is what the republican party is going to be, there is can be aat mindy and i part of that. we of millions of people across the country supporting us. see a you saying we did new political party, republican party divided basically in half -- could see a new political party, republican party divided basically and have? >> that is very much a possibility. >> let me go back to the idea of trumpism. 13 million voters in the primaries are supporting him. he beat out 17 candidates. there is a base within the gop were the trump message has resonated. what do you say to those voters? >> well, their frustration, some of it is founded -- well-founded, and they have been left behind. we have an economy that has been transformed because of technology. due to automation, many are losing their jobs are facing wage stagnation.
6:06 am
the party has been more focused on those who write the big checks. that frustration is very real. however, donald trump, wall may be a very loud, bombastic voice, is one that is just kind of using them for his own political party. he is been a liberal for all of his adult life. more so than that, he is terri the country apart and byermining our democracy demeaning african-americans, hispanics, women, people with disabilities. we are a country who has legitimate reason to distrust institutions but now we are being ripped apart by those people are being ripped apart and then calling into question whether democracy is rigged. there is no body anymore for conservative values. we need to think about the future. we represent a new generation of leadership who understands the concerns of those same voters that gravitated toward donald trump, who like the fact he anded directly and plainly
6:07 am
to them. but we have a positive vision and one that can unite the country, not one that will tear us apart. >> evan mcmullin, what will be headlined be the day after the election? who wins the presidency? who wins the house and senate? >> well, you're asking me to do something that is very difficult, of course. i believe the polls probably state ofhe accurate the race and that hillary clinton is dominating donald trump very strongly. i would expect, sadly, her to win and be our next president. whether it is her or donald trump, i think they're both people who want to grow the size of government and don't respect our constitution in a way that mindi and i believe it should be. that is what i think the outcome at the presidential level. i believe republicans will likely hold on to the house and certain.e is less
6:08 am
i just don't know. it is hard to predict. i think donald is definitely making it much more difficult for republicans to hold on to the senate and for them to hold on to the margin that they've had in the house for the last couple of years. ,> evan mcmullin, mindy finn independent presidential and vice presidential candidate joining us on the campaign and salt lake city, utah. thank you for being with us here on c-span. we appreciate it. >> thanks for having us. >> thank you. >> this afternoon, donald trump makes a campaign stop in springfield, ohio, live at 1:00 p.m. eastern on our companion network c-span2. the michelle obama will join hillary clinton at a rally in winston-salem, north carolina, live at 2:00 p.m. eastern. celebrity chef in florida senator bill nelson joined hillary clinton on the campaign trail yesterday. from tip of florida, this is just under an hour.
6:09 am
>> thank you, thank you, thank you for being here today on behalf of hillary. florida, you know is exceptionally important. that is why you're here. corridor is important. that yount to tell you have already concluded this, but look at the assault that has at this candidate, not just this year, but for years, and look who is standing tall. and if there is any question about it, how about that third debate?
6:10 am
it is a privilege for me to be going around the state with hillary and with tim. we've had the nelson family has had the privilege of knowing the clintons for three decades. and in the senate, tim kaine is one of my best friends. and i can tell you, he is the real deal. and what is so instructive about tim and what is so prophetic was back in law school, he took a year off anyway to honduras as a catholic missionary teaching .elding to the kids and lo and behold in that year, of course, he
