9:18 am
>> the concern is that yates will be essentially spilling the beans at least publicly on private discussions between the justice department and the white that took place not too long after trump us his inauguration and ultimately led to the resignation of michael in february as a national security advisor. sally gaetz went to the white house after trump's inauguration , went to see the white house legal counsel to let him know it was her view and the view of others in the u.s. government that some of the things that michael flynn have been saying about his contacts with russian officials, especially the russian ambassador to the u.s., that those statements were not accurate. some of them have been relayed by spokespeople for the white house or the trend transition. she also reportedly said they

>> such a white house has said the real story is about who -- the leaks and so forth. security the national , but copterslynn -- intercepted by u.s. authorities, those intercepts would be classified. you are not supposed to discuss them in public and so the white house has a point that some of the information reaching the is classified were would appear to be. what trump -- whether what trump said is true, whether sally gaetz no how newspapers got the information, we will see. i imagine it is one of the questions that will be asked. republicans in congress are not defensive on this issue and eager to take up the defense in the white house, perhaps as white house officials themselves or the president, the chairman of the subcommittee of the senate judiciary committee meeting on the issue again --

the issue today, and interest in getting to the bottom of the russian interference in the 2016 -- with repeatedly made john mccain to try and start an independent or special committee russianinvestigate actions in the election, it ended up not happening but they got a green light to pursue this inquiry, one of at least three investigations going on on activity,ll into this as well as a criminal and counterintelligence investigation conducted by the fbi. as it stands now, no specific testimony document has been released from sally yates yet? if it has, i have not seen it. we have spoken to sources who believe the testimony will largely track with counts to have it appear publicly, the

visits to the white house and the follow-up. that basic account has been essentially confirmed by white house staff who said they did do this investigation, and then you had flynn fired by president trump, although they said the reason he was fired was not because he had done anything illegal or necessarily unethical, but somehow information, that turned out to not be true. host: what is expected to talk about? he should have a broader view of what the efforts were in the 2016 election, as well as the overall obama administration facts to bring forward about the russian actions,
9:23 am
especially after the election but even before. there had been criticisms even from democrats that the obama administration did not do enough to respond to what russia was doing, did not do enough to publicly call attention to what russia was doing. when fbi director jim comey testified to the committee, he confirmed that he proposed in august of last year writing and not that essentially calling the russians out for efforts to appear in elections, but the obama administration turned that down, offered a 4 -- a statement in october, a few weeks before the presidential election and then did not put out a detailed accounting of what the u.s. intelligence community believed happened. before president obama left office. i expect he will offer some of that chronology and a defense of trump officials.
9:24 am
i believe he said publicly he byer saw an active collusion the trump administration or trump transition or campaign officials with the russians. instead, he said it was more a question of russians taking various approaches and making inroads rather than any wrongdoing. hearinglking about this featuring james clapper. 2:30 this afternoon is when you can monitor the hearing for yourself and see what happens. thanks for your time this morning.
