commander-in-chief's tribute to america's warriors." and the first guy i painted was major chris turner. and i turned to him and i said why are you here? he said i can't get out of my mind seeing a buddy of mine killed. and i paint from pictures and -- or photos and as i'm painting turner, i'm think what that must be like in his mind. >> for on this week's schedule, o to booktv.org. >> "washington journal" continues. host: welcome back. and we're taking your calls in this segment about the week's news and anything frankly that's on your mind. we've been talking all morning about this story the washington post. cuss for the sought secret channel. the "new york times" confirmed that jared kushner who is the

phones and we will get more headlines. lori calling in from herndon, virginia on the democratic line. good morning, lori. caller: oh, yes, yes. i would like to have the electoral college names who voted for president trump published and i would like to know why they voted for him over hillary clinton. and i would like to know why that is not, you know, publicized now. because president trump is in office now because of the electoral college. so i would like to know their basis on voting him in office. and i would like to know if they got money for voting for him or what their reasoning was. i would like to know every single one's opinion on how they voted for president trump. -- instead of hillary clinton. that's what i would like to know. host: richard's calling from
9:21 am
north fort myers, florida on the republican line. hi, richard. caller: good morning. first, thank you for c-span. i'm a daily watcher. as i challenge myself even though i called on the republican line, as i challenge myself to see how centrist i am if i'm left, right or center, i think of the coverage in various things. and one of the things that happened this week was i watched the speeches from the -- to the arab consortium and also the run from annapolis that president trump gave and i believe that they are in the category of presidential speeches that rifle -- rival president reagan's berlin tear down the wall level of each and yet they've been pretty much glossed over by most of the media, which convinces me that there is a concerted effort by the left to minimize anything good that president trump does.
9:22 am
host: what in those speeches particularly struck you? caller: well, the simplicity of throw them out of your neighborhoods, your streets, your towns, your villages. if there's going to be a change in the philosophy of the islamist terrorist community, that's where it's got to start. it has to start at the local neighborhood mosque level. and they have to realize that the brutal -- brutality that they're exerting epitomized by this manchester heinous, heinous killings of -- and we don't even know the extent of the injuries and how long they're going to go. it's got to start at a very, very simple basic level. not unlike how the united states was taken away from the british and -- in the 1770's by neighborhood by neighborhood. and that's got to be done in those places. they have to look inward towards
9:23 am
themself and say is this in our interest? host: ok. let's go to lauren, calling from alexandria, minnesota on the republican line. caller: good morning. i want to talk about global warming. host: sure. caller: i think technology is a lot to blame. we went from the horses to the mole t. and the model t to the model a. from the four cylinder in the six cylinder. and now the v-8's. and people have to get 60 miles an hour within just a short distance. and i see it all over on the highways. they're just -- i go on the freeways, the semis go 65 because they can get better fuel mileage. i go 70 miles an hour which is the speed limit and cars are flying by me like i'm standing still. people are to blame. maybe we should be better off to go back to the model a car where
9:24 am
people press on those accelerates and bomb around so fast. they're just speed, speed, speed. host: what kind of car do you drive, lauren? caller: i drive a 1996 ford ranger pickup. host: oh, that can get some good speed, right? caller: yeah, but i don't use it. you don't have to be using that horsepower to get 60 miles an hour in just a short distance. and i see it all over on the highways. even in town. i go 30 miles an hour which is the speed limit and they're flying by me like i'm standing still. i don't think people pay attention to the speed zones anymore. and maybe if they lift that, it would help on global warming. host: let's go to tim in arkansas on the independent line. good morning, tim. caller: good morning. good morning to you and c-span. likewise.
9:25 am
i'm a longtime listener. rather than critiquing the other callers, you quoted your "washington post" story. and the reason why news organizations put out stories that really have no basis and fact or you can call them fake news, they want to fill their pages but they don't want to tell you certain things. here have only of the stories they're avoiding. e, all the illegal taps to illegal unmasking and they will legal leaks. they're not covering that story. nobody's being prosecuted for it. and the other story that body's covering is how remarkable it was on the very same day we learn that comey may have had memos on trump. well you have to think comey's also got memos on obama and clinton. so the very same day we find out
9:26 am
's got memos, now you have a special counsel. the -- and we never found out at comey had on hillary or obama. and if i could interject one more, ali obama came in with his 40 thieves and got us all hooked on the opium that is free stuff, entitlements from the government. i would prefer that the freedom caucus repeat, insisted that they repeal obamacare entirely but then you've got people saying we think we have to accept a new sbrimet program. sorry. i don't accept a new sbrimet program even though i am a recipient of the obamacare, i would rather the federal government not be interfering with assurance companies. host: you would rather be
9:27 am
uninsured than to have obamacare? caller: i've spent unshudder as my choice. i didn't need doctors because i led a healthy lifestyle. now the new c.b.o. says 23 million people won't be on it. that's because they don't want to be on it. they don't want that expense. this is a country of choices. now if you take away everybody's choice of whether or not they could choose to be on or not be on, whether or not if they have to buy what the government says, then there is no more choice. host: ok. let's go to jim calling from ohio on the line for democrats. good morning, jim. caller: good morning. thanks for taking my call. i have quite a few issues on the air. so if you don't mind taking a couple of minutes. host: sure. caller: first of all, i'm so tired of hearing about russia. it's -- host: jim, are you there? caller: yeah, oh, i'm sorry.
9:28 am
it doesn't make sense that russia would involved in our election the way everybody thinks they are. i mean, they didn't change anybody's vote for one thing. now i want to get to another subject here. it's nobody's talking -- no channel. you even have not talked about it on all your station, it's about obama proven now that he has surveiled -- surveillance on trump. before the. election, during the election and as far as we know, he probably still does. the next thing i want to talk about is how come nobody brings up cnn? it's a proven fact. well, i shouldn't say that -- well, i can say that because that's what you're saying about russia. they get hillary clinton the questions to the debate. if there's any collusion, there's a fine example of it. and i like to have somebody from cnn come on and defend why they did that.
9:29 am
and that's my questions. thank you. host: all right. and that will do it for this portion of the program. coming up, we have sophia lee of "world" magazine. she's our spotlight on magazines guest. and we're going to talk to her about a recent piece about homelessness in los angeles and what folks there are doing to try to combat the problem. tay with us. >> this ho weekend on american history tv on c-span3, tonight at 10:00 p.m. eastern on "reel america," the 1977 documentary, "men of bronze." about the all-black 369 u.s. infantry soldiers. >> approximately 24 germans attacking. they got slugged immediately and johnson fought them off. he shot and he cut and he swung
