tv   Week Ahead in Senate  CSPAN  July 22, 2017 3:14pm-3:23pm EDT

3:14 pm
sitting this out means more harm and perhaps harm that cannot be undone later, so i will keep working. i have committed to passing the best product that we can deliver for the people of wyoming and for our whole country. toook forward to continuing work together to repeal obamacare and replace it with policies that will truly improve health care in america. i hope my colleagues will join me in this worthy endeavor. >> from the washington examiner, kimberly leonard talking about the status of the health care bill. we saw a lot of change over the last couple of days.
3:15 pm
where are we right now where it comes to the bill? >> it was a roller coaster this week regarding what would pass the senate. as far as what happens next week, it is unclear. we spoke with a lot of senators who said they were unsure what bill they would be voting for. they will be looking at the motion to proceed which will begin debate on the bill. it is unclear at this point whether they have the votes to move to that place. >> even though speaker mcconnell said he expects some type of movement on that. that is right. >> that is right. i am coming from the office of the vice president and he he is urging republicans to vote expects the same. to proceed. when we looked at the different bills, we had different senators that opposed various measures for different reasons. >> you had a recent story talking about medicaid changes being discussed. can you give us a sense of what that is about?
3:16 pm
>> they are calling it the medicaid wrap around. you have a lot of centrist senators saying that they do not want to roll back to medicaid expansion. what they have done is have members of the donald trump administration including the individual that runs the centers for medicaid services working with senators to work this out. what they have suggested is this medicaid wraparound which would take people who were on medicaid expansion and provide some flexibility with medicaid funds to be able to still provide medical care for those people. >> kimberly leonard, besides that effort, talk about the senators that a lot of people are watching -- those on the fence. are they being wooed to specifically? is there any chance of those changes are mines, or at least these proposals? >> it is hard to see for some of them. senator susan collins has says she does not want to vote to repeal obama care. she did
3:17 pm
not vote to repeal it in 2015. she wants to work with democrats to come up with a solution for obamacare. on the other hand, you have been senator from west virginia. they have added funding for opioid they have added funding for opioid addiction treatment centers and that does not seem to be enough to win her vote. the medicaid wraparound is one way they are trying to do this. they have had other proposals , but we are not seeing movement on it. cruz asked up for an amendment that would allow companies to offer plans that have fewer medical services as long as they offer one plan consistent with obamacare provisions. it is controversial and does not have a lot of backing. we have not seen it in the recent version. it is hard to tell what we are going to see. when they moved to debate, they can always provide amendments that would allow for some of these changes. >> is there a sense of frustration among republican leaders to get this done one way
3:18 pm
or the other? >> i think there is. one of the bills they are considering is a bill several senators supported, and now they say they don't want to support the bill, so among senate leaders you have people say why did you vote for it back then? thoughtcause you president obama would detail it, and now that it is real, you don't support it? and so, politically, it could be damaging. at the same time, it depends on how it looks to voters. you are seeing more support for obamacare these days. it is hard to know how it will be received by different people. >> how does this go forth particularly as they are concerned about the status of senator mccain? >> that's right. they say he will be back next week to start debate on this. it we will see. it is unclear. many senators are concerned about his health. i know they
3:19 pm
i know they are thinking about him a lot. >> you can follow our guest on twitter. she also writes for the "washington examiner." kimberly kimberly lenard covers health thank you for your time. care for the publication. thank you for your time. >> one of the problems is the insane ceo pay. we can get into later how it became insane. it is harming the companies that use it. it is harming the employees. it is terrible for the economy. one of the principal drivers of increasing economic equality in this country. >> tonight on book tv, stephen clifford, former ceo of king hisdcasting, talked about book, the ceo pay machine.

someone who has not properly reported on this to saying,s opposed donald trump, why are you smearing john mccain? >> it was the washington post i wrote about. on orot here to cheer defend john mccain or donald trump. when youistake criticize media behavior for how it treats donald trump, but does that mean i support him or are cheering him on, but it is miss red often as you must be supporting him or not like x or y because you said this. it has nothing to do it that. it has to do with accurate media coverage of the candidate. i have spoken out about that. onouncer: watch after words
