reform,t welfare healthcare legislation, tax re form, and the federal response california.ires in this is 20 minutes. you very trump: thank much. today we're here to discuss at the cabinet meeting critical issues. policy i'd like to basically provide you with an update as to how we are doing for the american people. we are doing a lot of great things. the unemployment rate is at a low.t 17-year the stock markets is soaring. we hit a new high friday and i todayanother new high because there's tremendous optimism having to do with business in our country. g.d.p. growth has reached more than 3% last quarter. and other than the hurricanes, would have done phenomenally and i think will still do very well but something will have to be off because of the tremendous problems of the mass
5:04 pm
ive hurricanes that we've endure. and now i guess you could probably add the wildfires in california. economy cannot take off like it really has the potential reduce the tax burden on families, businesses, workers of our country. and we'll be able to do that. tremendousre getting receptivity from people. i hope we get the same from congress. but we are getting tremendous accolades for what we are doing, having to do with both reform massive tax cuts. it will be the largest tax cuts .n the history of our country we're one of the highest tax nations in the world right now, of jobs andillions trillions and trillions of dollars. restore american's competitive edge and pass historic tax cuts to the american people. g.d.p. would be $2.5 trillion. think of that, revenues. point, if we go up from
5:05 pm
three to four -- when i began, s and now thee one last quarter, 3.2%. higher.ing up but if we went, as an example, from three three or to four, we're talking about $2.5 trillion. and we're also talking about millions of jobs. so we want to also reduce excess government spending and that's what we're working on at our cabinet meeting today. we head into next year's budget season, i've asked direct or mulvaney to come up and find various savings in all of the departments that are gather ed around the table, which everybody. i need my cabinet to work with mulvaney to fight these spending cuts, fight for them .nd make sure that they happen and we want to make the departments as lean and as possible, at the same time be departments with lots of heart, lots of heart. one thing we're going to be look at very strongly is welfare reform.
5:06 pm
we are going to be looking very very strongly, therefore, at welfare reform. be a very big topic under this administration. it started already. of we have a lot recommendations that we're going to be making and you'll be shortly.bout them very the other thing we're doing that thetes to people's lives is prescription drug prices are out of control. the drug prices have gone the roof. if you look at the same exact companythe same exact made in the same exact box and sold someplace else, sometimes it's a fraction of what we pay in this country. meaning, as usual, the world is taking advantage of the united states. they're setting prices in other
5:07 pm
not.ries and we're the drug companies, frankly, are getting away with murder. bring our prices down to what other countries are paying. or at least close and let the countries pay more because they're setting such low price we're actually subsidizing other countries. that's just not going to happen anymore. on for years going where our people are paying so much more for it. more.don't mean 2% i mean they're paying double, triple, quadruple. they're paying so much more that unfair to the united states, as usual. last week i also sent a letter to congress outlining my administration's top priorities reform.gration this was a bottom-up effort driven by dedicated law professionals they took a big oath to protect our nations. the justice department is doing a fantastic job on the border regard to immigration, more than anyone's ever seen
5:08 pm
department a justice thank you very much, jeff. impact and aad an very positive impact. and now we're going to take it further.teps our proposal closes dangerous and vulnerabilities that enable illegal immigration , and visa overstays the visa overstays are just -- you're talking about numbers nobody even knows what they are they are so out of control. we are going to take care of that. when you look at what's going on in mexico, mexico is having a ofgh time right now in terms crime. more than ever we need the wall. pouring through on the southern border, literally p ouring through. have to have the wall. we are going to have the wall. but if you look at just what's happening on the other side of border with the tremendous crime and the tremendous problems going on -- we have a relationship with mexico but there are a lot of
5:09 pm
thelems and we don't want drugs and we don't want the crime but we need the wall. we've asked congress to ensure that any proposed immigration re chain migration. one person comes in and then brings everybody and his family her.th him or and we have to end chain critical forch is creating a system that puts american workers and the first.n taxpayer last thursday i proudly nominat ed kisser teen kneelson to serve as secretary of security, of homeland urged the senate so quickly confirm this really tremendously nominee. and i also asked for my other nominees. we have approximately half the nominees confirmed by the senate. the democrats have , andble policy, terrible they're very good at obstruction and one thing they do well,
5:10 pm
is no good -- i'm not even sure they're very good they don't baugh know. sob doing too well that could be because of their bad policy. obstructiongreat at we have half the nominees that president obama had at this time unfair.y they're taking everybody right to the final moment and many confirming them with tremendous majorities. but they're bringing them out purposely, right down to the final. are totallyle that qualified, are going to pass, but they are going to have to because totalme obstruction. i can say the same thing with nominees, our judge s we have some of the most .ualified people this is some of the most qualified people ever and they are waiting forever on line. happen that way. it's not right and it's not fair accountinghank secretary elaine duke for her leadership in responding to the
5:11 pm
catastrophic storms that have struck our nation and our territoryies we have also issued disaster declaration in california, in response to the we'veating wildfires like never seen. and we mourn the terrible loss of life. fema and first respond ers there. we have our military helping. very sad to watch how fast, how rapidly they move and how people are caught in their house s. it's an incredible thing, caught in their houses. people helping, california.n we've made a lot of progress in the last couple of days but little subject to winds nature. happens with but it's been -- it's a very sad thing to watch. we also continue to pray for the victims of the mass shooting in las vegas. we cannot erase the pain of those who lost their loved ones but we pledge to never leave
5:12 pm
their side. we're working with them very much so with the f.b.i. and law , department of justice. guess a lot of people think they understand what happened but he was a demented, sick individual. the wires were crossed pretty badly in his brain, extremely in his brain. .t's a very sad event in each of these tragedies we've witnessed, however, tremendous ourngth and heroism of people. each one of these tragedy that witnessed suchve strength and heroism. when americans are unified, no force on earth can even come close to breaking us apart. to do on lot of work behalf of our magnificent country and our extraordinary .itizens a great trust has been placed cabinet. member of our we have a cabinet that there are those that say it's one of the
5:13 pm
finest group of people ever assembled as a cabinet. to agree with that. of course, i should agree with it. but i think we have an peopledinary group of around this table. ofs is a tremendous amount talent. i wouldn't say i was necessarily looking to be politically correct, although i ended up being politically correct because that was the right thing sense of the word just gottenhave really, really great people. i'm very proud of them. work on all ofto those things i just outlined and many more. iran deale have the but right now it's being studied agreed a lot of people with what i did. i feel strongly about what i did being taken advantage of as a nation. this nation has been taken advantage of for many, many many decades, frankly , and i'm tired of watch ing it.
5:14 pm
was somethingeal that i felt had to be done. we'll see what phase two is. it might be positive, it might be very negative it might be a termination. that's a very real possibility. some would say that's a greater possibility. could turn out to be very positive. we'll see what happens. theought the tone of iranian leaders was very modif ied. i was happy to see that. don't know if that means anything. they're great negotiators. phenomenalated a deal for themselves but a horrible deal for the united states. what happens. see the healthcare, as you know is moving along. the c.s.r.'s. that was a subsidiaryy to the was ance companies that gift that was frankly what they gave the insurance companies just look at their stocks. where their stock was when obamacare was original ly approved and what it is today. see numbers that anybody -- if you invested in
5:15 pm
those stocks, you'd be extremely happy. a total have given them gift. they have given them -- you could almost call it a payoff. it's a disgrace. that money goes to the insurance companies we want to take care people. we want to take care of people that need help. .ith healthcare and that's what i'm here to do. and i'm never going to get campaign contributions, i guarantee you that, from the insurance companies but a lot of other people got them. takeook at the democrats, a look at that. take a look at how much money that's been spent by the healthts and by the companies on politicians general ly but take a look at the covers of the democrats -- coffe rs of the democrats. actually. payments has brought republicans and democrats together because we fromalls, emergency calls, the democrats. and i think probably the also callingere them saying let's come up with at least a short-term fix of
5:16 pm
this country. the gravy train ended the day i knocked out the insurance companies' money, which was last week. of dollars millions a month handed to the insurance very little reason , believe me. i want the money to go to the people. i want the money to go to poor people that need it. i want the money to go to people proper healthcare, not to insurance companies which is where it's going as of last week i ended that. so we have a lot of interesting .hings to do i'm meeting with mitch mcconnell in a little while for lunch. say a few're going to words on the steps after that. i know you won't have any questions. it.ty much that's enjoy yourselves, folks. i'll see you out there with mitch mcconnell. much.you very >> [multiple voice overlap] president trump: steve is very committed.
5:17 pm
and he'siend of mine very committed to getting things passed. greati have -- i have relationships with actually many senators but in particular with senators.lican but we're not getting the job done. and i'm not going to blame myself. i'll be honest. are not getting the job done. we have had healthcare approved had a surprise vote by john mccain. other things happen and they're not getting the job done. and i can understand where steve bannon is coming from. and to be honest with you, i can understand where a lot of people from because i'm not happy about it and a lot of people aren't happy about it. cuts.d tax we need healthcare. now, we're going to get the healthcare done. happeningion what's is as we meet, republicans are meeting with democrats because c.s.r.'s,did with the because i cut off the gravy train. c.s.r.'s,t cut the they wouldn't be meeting. they'd be having lunch and enjoy ing themselves.
5:18 pm
they're right now having emergency meetings to get a short-term fix of healthcare premiums don't have to double and triple every year like they have been under obamacare. finished.is it's dead. it's gone. you shouldn't even mention it. it's gone. there is no such thing as obamacare anymore. it is -- i said this years ago. that couldn't have worked. in its best days it couldn't have worked. some kindworking on of a short-term fix prior to the getting, maybe with some democrats, again, it's obstruction but maybe with some fix healthcare permanently. so i think we'll have a short- term fix with republicans getting together. and after that we're going to have a successful vote. you know, we were one vote short. rightk we have the votes now. whether it's through block grant grantething else, block ing the money back to the states, which does seem to make
5:19 pm
sense where the states run it smaller form of government that can be more individually sensitive. so that will happen fairly short ly. as soon as we have the next reconciliation i think we'll get the vote for healthcare. i feel very confident. i think we already have the vote for healthcare. can't joinemocrats us on that, which will be the long-term fix. at i do believe we'll have short-term fix because i think the democrats will be blamed for mess. this is an obamacare mess. when the premiums go up, that to do with anything other than the fact that we had poor healthcare, delivered poor ly, written poorly, approved by the democrats. it was called obamacare. we'll have a short- term fix and then we'll have a long-term fix and that will take place probably in march or april. we will have a very solid vote, probably 100% republican, no democrats but most people know a veryat's going to be good form of health insurance. so that will be it.
5:20 pm
ok? question? no? thank you. i'll see you in a little while. >> [multiple voice overlap] >> thanks, john. president trump: i know how he feels. it depends on who you are talking about. some republicans, frankly that should be ashamed of themselves. tellost of them -- i'll you what. i know the republican senators. really them are really, great people that want to work hard and they want to go a great thing for the american public. thatou had a few people really disappointed us. they really, really disappointed us. so i can understand fully how steve bannon feels. ok? thank you very much. .hank you fund [captions copyright national cable satellite corp. 2017] [captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org]

>> tonight on "the communicators " we interviewed four cyber researchers teaching the latest cybersecurity techniques and artificial intelligence at the black hat conference in las vegas. >> the internet of things is awe a bit unique even from embedded devices like phones because they're typically used autonomously. so there's no human interaction with, like, your thermostat or industrial controller. and we've seen some attacks where they're able to exploit like webcams, for example. >> traditionally hacking was more around building and making stuff. and more recently i think society has seen it as people breaking into systems, you know, attacking systems in an offensive manner. but traditionally it's approaching problems and solving problems in various different ways. >> i think now is probably the most exciting time to start hacking. the information out there is unbelievable. it takes very little to hack
