7:14 pm
the sions out there in country, i know it often appears that we don't get along, that we hate each other, that we're add each other's throats, but nothing could be further from the truth. and it's been such the country, i know it often appears that we don't get along, that we hate each other, that we're add each other's throats, but nothing could be further from the truth. and it's been such an honor to work with chairman black as a member of the budget committee. and all the members. we do the country, i know it often appears that we don't get along, that we all respect each and get along. we just have some very serious disagreements about policy. that's fair. that's what this country is about. and once again although i may not get to do it -- since i may not get to do it again, as chairman black pursues another office and probably won't appear with me on the same program anymore, i want to wish and say what a joy it's been to work with her. with that we yield the balance of our time. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman yields back. the gentlelady from tennessee is recognized. mrs. black: mr. speaker, may inquire how much time i have left? 30 seconds. 30 seconds i want to once again say thank you to my colleague from the other side. i have enjoyed working with him. this is history. we're going to make history. i urge my colleagues to join me in their support of the budget

fiscally responsible, it strengthens our national defense, and is really good for taxpayers. this budget that we just pass in the house brings us one step --ser to the store t historic tax reform. long, the american people have been living under a broken system where they see too little of their hard earned dollars. they spend dollars is just doing their taxes. so much time and money is wasted complying with this incredibly complicated tax code, only to your are awarded by having a big chunk of their income taken by the income -- by the government. people are struggling. some and people are living paycheck to paycheck. single moms deserve a break for it parents working to send their kids to college, they deserve a break for it -- they deserve a
7:17 pm
break. ist is what this tax plan all about. our tax reform invests in real people. families knowt how to invest their dollars more than the federal government. we believe that families need a break print tax reform will help reignite the american dream. will help us bring us to a stronger, healthier economy. this budget the house just passed brings us closer to making that dream a reality. mr. speaker, i appreciate last night. >> good luck with the other career. the 2-year-old strategy. >> you had a bowl, you cut around it? seemed like multiple

investigations into elements in the clinton foundation issues, there has in allegations this is an partisan effort, what is your sense of the endgame? related to the dossier issue -- what are you willing to do? of theseint investigations is to find the truth and to make sure that have laws were violated, they are not made again and transparency is what get to that. thorough conduct oversight over the executive branch print that as a important responsibility for congress. we've been asking for documents from the fbi for months. since yesterday morning, the fbi got in touch with us yesterday afternoon and they have informed us that they will comply with and theyents request
7:19 pm
will provide the documents congress has been asking for by next week. we expect the fbi to honor that commitment. on tax reform, you did pass a final version of the budget, but more of your members voted against this version then voted against the original version that passed the house. many of them from high tax states. what are you doing to ensure you get tax reform passed? >> look at the big step we took today. this was an enormous step. ok? is what -- we just passed, that is really important to getting tax reform done. we'll be putting out a specific plan very shortly and they are going to work with all of our members to address their concerns.
7:20 pm
i believe that working with these members in particular to find a solution. earlier in an interview, you would not guarantee that i tax will would not increase the deficit. can you guarantee that it will cut taxes? >> the entire purpose is to cut middle-class taxes. >> about 401(k)s, you left the door open. >> i'm going to leave it to those who are writing the tax bill, that is their job. i will have to refer you to the e. mitte >> do you agree with that president that retirement accounts should not be touched? the believe in giving committee their latitude. we are trying to achieve giving people a break on the taxes making it easier for them to plan and save for their futures. on immigration, can you
7:21 pm
clarify what you -- what your colleague -- >> i was leaked incorrectly. made about has and the timing and nature of daca, and when it will occur. there is as ongoing conversation. >> a vote what occurred? >> correct. ongoing conversations about the various possibilities of how to address the situation. you know we are working on a daca solution. we want to work am a daca solution that we do not have a daca problem in five to 10 years down the road. we have to address border of that anda part how we do that is an ongoing conversation we're having. incorrect leaks are not a way to convey that message.
7:22 pm
earlier this morning, your office described the tax foundation as nonpartisan. mong ms. boards -- -- among this board, there are various people. it includes staff from both ides including two gop > ex-ceos. why do you think one is nonpartisan? >> i think having a closed economy model that disrespects capital flows does not make a whole of cents. -- sense. there are some model flaws. it was a model i used to work on. the ggn model is the current.
7:23 pm
basic is they put a bunch of assumptions in their model, made things up to come up with a conclusion that seemed overly partisan when in fact those were not the decisions that were made. that was my fault with the tbc model. >> on the other side of the capital, there were strong words about the president from republican senators. do you share any of these flake thatke senator he does not want to be complicit? >> jeff flake is a good friend of mine and i think -- i think the world of jeff flake. . think he is a very good man a voice ofs, he was fiscal strength here in the house, but i do not think the american people care about that. you know the american people
7:24 pm
want to see us do? solve their problems. they do not with to see us up here yelling at each other. they were to see us fighting for them. the american people want results. that is what we are focused on. the more unified we are in pursuing solutions that solve the american people's problems, that is what they sent us here to do. that is what they expect. we work for the people who elect us. if we are calling each other names are calling each other out or saying things against each other, what does that do to help a working mom get ahead? what is that due to get a better in the health care he deserves? what is that due to advance tax reform? nothing. that is why we need to stay focused on solving people's problems and being concerned about their issues.
7:25 pm
that is what our focus is. -- >> you often talk about tax and helping people know about special interests but the has taken issue with -- are you at all concerned that the rollout, that he is not going to like any of them? >> he is going to be in asia. [laughter] >> that was a joke. no, i'm not. we are working very closely with the white house on this. on the big six, we work very hard on the parameters. the tax writers are working on the granular details on how to make this work work.
7:26 pm
we are working very closely with the white house so there will be no surprises from our partners in the white house or the senate when we do this. thanks a lot, everybody. i appreciate it. >> house minority leader nancy pelosi also held her weekly briefing. she spoke about the passage of the 2018 budget resolution, tax reform, and immigration issues. this is half an hour. >> good morning. good morning, everyone.
7:27 pm
what in that event full morning it has been. really one that marks a transfer -- transformative moment for our country. this morning, when the republicans voted to advance the budget they put forth, they drew a line in the sand between the middle class and working families and the very wealthy and corporate america. it is really unfortunate but it is at least an opportunity for the american people to understand more clearly what the debate is here in washington dc. line of thatf that line in the sand, we have the republicans in congress who are in their dna committed to a mission of giving tax breaks to the wealthiest people in our country. that is the dg
