week takes upext the annual defense authorization bill. ,e are joined by joe gould "defense news" congressional reporter. tell us about key programs and policies in this annual authorization bill. the earlier this month, house armed services committee marked up its version of the national defense authorization act, which is the annual defense policy bill. hews to the top line of the two-year budget deal, so it is a 716 billion dollars, an increase from 2018, which was $700 billion. there is a number of policy provisions which also layout what sorts of hardware and what kind of numbers would be provided to the military. 77 f-35's in the

bill, to virginia-class submarines. there is a 2.6% pay raise, an additional 16,000 troops, and there are policy provisions in there as well. it is supportive of the administration's nuclear posture review. 's includes mac thornberry proposal to cut 25% from certain military support agencies, the so-called fourth estate. additionally, viewers may have of problems with military aviation. well, there is a bipartisan push for a commission that would ofestigate the causes military aviation mishaps that we have seen lately. so there is quite a bit in the bill.
