if we don't straighten this out, we will be sorry. i'm sorry to say this about the democrats, but they need to work on getting their party back in focus. they are so corrupt in that party it is unreal. host: last caller in today's host we take you live to the national conservative student conference they host by the young america's foundation. recommend, byhly the way. kingdom follows a hollywood nobody finds himself a murder suspect in a bizarre fantasy world. injured is a contributing editor to the city journal and has essays and offense on public movies, thaton,

10:02 am
you should convince the left. knowles believes you should convince the left, you should own the left. i feel those young whippersnappers can't just -- can't do both. they are just not working hard enough. the logohere with behind me looking out at your eager young faces brings back one of the worst moments of my life. a very first speech was to conference in santa barbara just like this one. a complete disaster. i spent my realize life as a novelist and a screenwriter. room ands to sit in a make stuff off. i go off to a tiny office and sit there and think what if a cop became a werewolf? werewolf cop.
10:03 am
but i did well at it and finally started making my books into movies. i work in hollywood. after 9/11 happen the movie industry started to churn out these antiwar movies in which asy depict did our soldiers rapists, as killers, as victims of evil conservatives. i thought that is not right. i don't care what your opinion is about the war. antiward had never made movies before. you don't make propaganda law -- for the enemy. i start to write about that. i lost my friends in hollywood but made new conservative friends. andrew coffin who runs the reagan ranch where i lived asked if i would give a speech to a conference like this one. i said sure. i have been thinking about werewolves for 20 years.
10:04 am
do young colleges want to hear about. i studied the culture. i studied narrative. i have studied it deeply. i wrote this intricate speech about how the culture invented the idea of the individual, why that matters to conservatives. i arrive at this thing and there are these practice conservative speakers delivering the red meat. muslims are coming and they are going to kill us. coming anduals are the homosexual mexicans are coming. speechp and give this about the idea of the individual in western culture. five minutes into a 30 minute speech, and i am dying death. they have their phones out, playing minecraft.
10:05 am
they are hooking up. they are just having sex because they are bored by my speech. cool butke i'm pretty i feel the sweat going down my back. i stumble off the stage. a crowd of five people follow me backstage and embrace my hand and say that was the most wonderful speech we've ever heard. i said, they hated me. they said well, they are conservatives. they are business majors and engineers. i said who are you guys? >> we are of the english majors. i went home. i called my power, andrew breitbart. i hope you guys remember andrew breitbart. a day.what i tried to talk to conservatives
10:06 am
about cold sure. there was disgust of laughter over the phone. for the next several years i went around to conservative groups giving speeches about how we ought to care about the culture. how the culture works. why we ought to have think thanks. we ought to give awards and build -- because the thing about the culture, while conservatives -- everything is an emergency. if we don't win 150 congressional districts in missouri the constitution is dust. it is a slow way. it eats away at the world you know and sweeps under your feet. the san gets eaten out from under you. that is how culture works. how else do you explain that we live in the freest, wealthiest,
10:07 am
strong nation that has ever existed and twice we elected a guy who promised to run the mentally transform it? i want to fundamentally transform this country. strong,oo free, too stop us. that is the culture. getting into people's heads, convincing them this is an oppressive and wrong place. trump is not a political phenomenon. it is a cold troll phenomenon. culture that has hated the central values of this country for 50 years. people say they like to try because they are angry. 50 years, every movie, every tv show, every comedian has been telling them their country is garbage. of was heckled. he said i don't feel like i'm an american. i said yes you do.
10:08 am
you're getting at all the time. giving speeches to conservatives like this was like talking to my wife and saying if you buy something on sale it still costs money. she looks at me like you are adorable but i have no idea what you are talking about. up.ve i stopped giving that speech. first i had thought we weren't in the culture just because we were blacklisted. when you open the door no one was there. it took a while before they came in. i started to think there is something inherent in the conservative philosophy antithetical to making culture. think about it. conservatives will leave in fax. facts don't care about feelings.
10:09 am
the left seriously believes there is no such thing as a moral reality. it is just the narrative. there is a book out now called sapiens. bill gates loves this book. what he says is what makes human beings different from animals is they create fictions. they create stories that there is a god. moneys are a- fiction. that brings us together. it is useful but not true. this theory is garbage. my only point is if you have one side that believes in fax and another side that believes the truth is established by fiction who do you think is going to be better at telling stories? it is going to be the left. it matters more to them. you can see with paul ryan and
10:10 am
his attempt to reform entitlements. i'm a big paul ryan fan. people thought he was a conservative enough because he didn't tar car sleep. he had the guts to reform entitlements. his point was when you had social security, it kicked in at 65 and people lived until they were 63. you could afford social security. there are more workers supporting it. he went out and said we should move up social security. he had his charts and pointers. here are the numbers in here is what we do. the left made a video pushing an old lady in a wheelchair off a cliff. who do you think is going to win that argument? i left at that because the point is a 65-year-old woman does it look like an old lady in a wheelchair anymore. she is doing yoga and kick
10:11 am
boxing. you win that argument. up because i looked around in here is what i saw. i see it now. we complain about hollywood but we don't go to hollywood. the complain about twitter banning. we didn't invent twitter. i get a and on youtube every day. they get the monetized. i know why. they pick on me more than anyone else. i'm a culture maker. i know how to tell stories. they put up the thing saying no sponsors every single day. we complain but we didn't build youtube. that means you guys are living in a world where the culture belongs to the left and are continue to be doing that for some time.
10:12 am
talk to you about is what that means you personally. then i'm going to give you some advice as an older guy. which i promise will be the worst advice you've ever gotten in your life. it will ruin your life. the thing about the culture, what culture does it is a creates with the left has deemed the narrative. the narrative is that cloud of thatng that surrounds you don't even know is there. it's the ideas you breathe in and hold fast, and believe they dissented from god and you don't know where they come from. the best example of culture i have is i love to tell story of george washington. here is a class soul -- classical example. he was the greatest hero of
10:13 am
liberty who ever lived except maybe jesus. george washington was worshiped by the entire country. he had an army that would have marched through hell for him. if he wanted to be king of america he could have been king. king of a continent. king of a country that never existed before. the first king of that country. instead because he believed in liberty, he traveled to maryland and handed his sword over to the civilian authorities and went home. there is a mural of this. -- because of his virtue and believe in liberty, he took the ideas and geniuses around him and gave them a habitation and a name. realisticberty a
10:14 am
being. that is an active virtue and heroism that history does not have another example like that. george washington could not understand why his slaves didn't work harder. he was blind to this. . have a quote washington suffered from a blind spot about slavery, regarding it as an economic exchange. he clothed and fed his workers. he said i expect such labor as they ought to render. they treatede that like family. she escaped. he was flabbergasted. he couldn't understand. she must've been seduced. he spent a lot of money trying to bring her back. that is the power of narrative. the greatest hero in liberty could understand why a slave would escape. that is what a narrative does to you.
10:15 am
washington, because he was washington, he broke through. the only one of the slaveholding founders who let his slaves go. think of the power of narrative. you render him blind to a central injustice of his time. how is that happening to you? let me give you some examples. and talk about what they have in common. will have a chance to offend each and every one of you. abortion is the most obvious. a lot of you conservatives oppose abortion. 3000 babies in america are being killed every day. i don't think any one of us really feels the urgency of that. is urgent about is many of the women having these abortions are good, moral people who like washington are swept away in a
10:16 am
narrative about that child and they don't feel it. neither do i. i do not feel the crisis at the level we should feel that crisis. that is because of the narrative. feminism. i'm antifeminist. you drown out the sound of people watching c-span whose heads just exploded. i obviously am an individual list. every person should do what he or she wants. it is not what they say about men. i never paid any attention to what they say about men. why would i care what they say about men #i hate the denigration of femininity which is one of the graces of our world, but we should and -- between the sexes. and i have seen so many women
10:17 am
were so many women without dreams they were told they were supposed to dream and not without the dreams that were in their hearts. i think that is a tragedy. that is a terrible thing to do to people. has is a narrative that taken over the country. atheism. this affects a lot of smart young men even on the right. you are just absolutely certain the logic of science discoveries of science have disprove the existence of god. this is untrue, by the way. it is so apparent most everything you believe everything you think, it requires there to be a god. it is obvious. powerful, ive is so they are absolutely certain if harris, yout, sam don't believe. they deprive themselves of the
10:18 am
joy and the wisdom of knowing their creator. the other one is victimhood. especially to seeing who isa young black man strong and healthy and intelligent and able worrying about micro-aggressions, but the fact that people tense up the walk into an elevator. if you are a man and you were worried about micro-aggressions, you have allowed someone to take your manhood away. a micro-aggression is something a man steps on on his way to doing what he has to do and doesn't even notice. what theset out things have in common. silence.ing voice is
10:19 am
abortion, if you are in a room with a woman and it unborn baby there's only one person in that room with no voice. the right to choose. there is only one woman who has -- one person who has no choice. it woman can go on tv and say i was right and i got pregnant. or i can afford to have this child. this child is damaged in some way. that is a sad story. you will not hear me say otherwise. tv and saynnot go on i would have cured cancer. i would have had more children of my own who would have been you do full people. you don't hear that story. it doesn't have the urgency of the tragic mother story which has an urgency. feminism is baked into cynicism among women who are going to have the loudest voice is are
10:20 am
not going to be the women who motherhoodily life, my home life. when you see a news lady on fox news or msnbc who just had a baby and two weeks later, 112 pounds, back in front of the camera, she is not going to be saying the best thing for a child is to have its mother at home. the mother who is at home is not one to have time to be telling her that. you're not going to hear what that is like reviewer not when hear people talk about the power women have. the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. they are not kidding. they are the most powerful woman on earth and the most empowered women on earth. truth. just the atheism is built into the system. christianity is antithetical to
10:21 am
the world. it opposes the world. pastors andr priests saying how can we appeal to the culture. stop preaching christianity. stop preaching the gospel. hollywood, west hollywood which is a gay ghetto. it is. this is nothing against gay people really but when you go down to the churches on gay thee week or month or year, churches are decorated with rainbow flag. one had rainbow letters, affirmation on the front of it. not against gays but one of them should head pride, it is still one of the deadly sins. the christian voice is never
10:22 am
going to be as powerful. christians have to tell the truth and let the world come to them. victimhood and whether they have just created this beautiful -- if where you are not you are not one of the victim class you can't speak. i'm a white guy so i can't speak to women and blacks. they silence everybody and go out of their way to do it. they really work hard to silence anybody who speaks up against the system. this bring me to my bad it lies. my bad advice to you is tell the truth. if you're not going to build you to, if you're not going to make movies or tv shows, each one of you is holding a piece of the coulter in his hand every time
10:23 am
he tells the truth. the reason this is a bad idea is it is going to cost you. it is going to cost you on social media. it is going to cost you in college. the question i'm asked most often, what do i do with a leftist college professor? what they really mean is how do i answer my leftist college professor without paying a price. you can't. you've got to pay the price. they go out of their way to destroy lives and reputations of people. if you don't think the right -- they left the dedicated to destroying the lives and reputations everyone who opposes them, consider this. dan rather destroyed his career and reputation and his honor by getting forged documents to prove george w. bush committed
10:24 am
minor infraction when he was in 1973.tional guard in that is what he spent his honor on. that is all. it is like mitt romney. this was the power of donald trump. you can't assassinate man's character when his character has committed suicide. that ias lived a life don't think we can approve of. he has bragged about adultery. that gives him strength because the attack your character when you speak. of course, the biggest power they have, how they have managed to do this, race. i know strong outspoken conservatives quayle and turned white at the idea of being called racist. citizens united, he had to apologize because he was arguing
10:25 am
with a black commentator and said you are out of your cotton picking mind. that is something he would they to me if we were arguing. he was treating the guy like and he will and the left was send you can't do that. gifted treat them like a fragile victim or you are not a true american. keep his joblogize at fox news. they will do anything to call you a racist. here is the thing you have to remember. ideas are not a race. if you believe all of wants you to kill the infidel you were nuts. ok. i don't care what color you are. onsomebody kills the infidel that fidel at -- philosophy and use of work him you are an accomplice. everyone who supports and is an accomplice and deserves to be attacked for their ideals.
10:26 am
i should say this. i don't know if you listen to my men and women are made in the image of god. that is not something i believe read that is a fact. bernie sanders always says this. i happen to believe. everyone deserves free health care. who gives a rats ass? i happen to believe i can fly. made inbelieve we were the image of god. i know. all nature proclaims, all reason proclaims it. if you hate him and because of the color of his skin you are slapping the image of god area
10:27 am
it is a free country, not yourself out. don't sit too close to me. i'm going to be ready. ideas are not a race. ideas are not a race. actions are not a race. i have worked in the arts. i have friends personally and politically with gay people. supporthen it cost you gay lives. debating whether homosexual acts are moral or not is not an act of hatred. debating whether they are moral is not an act of hatred. that is what we are here to do. that is the point and purpose. culture is not a race. guy in ae a black culture where you knock a woman up and live her -- leave her alone to take care of that baby
10:28 am
you are a knucklehead and you can hide be kind the color -- hide behind the color of your skin. you can't say that is my culture. the culture is wrong. the culture is wrong. you have to change the altar. criticizing actions, criticizing ideas, criticizing culture is not racism. they will use that term to shut you up. i'm going to stop so i can talk to you. i want to reiterate, we are not that it culture. we have great culture makers. some of the greatest writers alive at this moment are conservatives. we have great. tom wolfe just died unfortunately. we have great culture makers but we are black listed and there is something inherent in the
10:29 am
conservative philosophy that keeps us from making culture. if you're going to live in a leftist culture you oh it to yourself and your country to tell the truth. that means to pay the price. i made a lot of money in hollywood. i don't anymore. i have not lost a minute of sleep about it. my life -- my wife has never said you're not making as much money anymore, why? the left has dealt with their academies, with their news organizations, with hollywood, and empire of lies and the only way to live in it empire of lies is to tell the truth and pay the price. that is the bad advice going to give to you. jesus said the truth will set you free. i'm going to tell you also only the truth will keep you free. that is my charge to you. that is what you're going to have to do. thank you very much.
10:30 am
i know that was just for my bernie sanders imitation. >> this is an interesting crowd. we are young people. we are sexually driven. approaching the peak of very productive try -- drive. we like to think of ourselves as social conservatives. in the culture marriage is in decline. the question i have is how can we as young conservatives
10:31 am
succeed in our marriages and ratchet the culture back to marriage and sexual conservatism? >> great question. person to ask about this. i have been married, with my wife for 40 years. my marriage is a miracle. i'm not kidding. my marriage is not like other people's marriages. we have had one argument one fight. we have had one fight. 30 years ago. lasted five minutes. i'm still chasing that woman around the room. chasing her a little more slowly now eerie i'm crazy about her. people ask what is the secret? i tell them you have to marry my wife. that is part of it.
10:32 am
you are a walking advertisement. i live in a town where people are sleeping with each other right and left. they envy me. they see my marriage and say how do i get that? they do. you are a living advertisement for what you do. you can't condemn people, you can't throw stones at people. you have to live that life and make sure it is a joy to bow hold. one of the ways you should do this is talk to each other about what a marriage is. feminists live. they have told us these lies. i got a letter and i believe my marriage is a partnership. now i'm dealing am a wife all the time. it is not a marriage -- it is not a partnership. it is a partnership. a marriages to people both coming one flesh. that is a tough thing to negotiate.
10:33 am
this because i am sold by the time they catch me i we did. every happy marriage of ever seen, the man took a leadership role. it does not mean you are telling people what to do and you are a tyrant, lording it over people. a leader works for the good of the people who leads. someone who knows the responsibility for the good of the people in his sphere, on his shoulders. whole thing is i want my wife to be happy every day. my wife has lived the life she wanted. i have something to do with that. there are times i made decisions of major and have the because i knew that was the way i was going to get her there. you have to talk about that before you go into a marriage. you don't want to go in and then find out marriage is nothing what feminists tell you because
10:34 am
then you are going to be on you will unhealthy live it and that preach it for you. >> along similar lines, it is hard to convince the other side you are right if there is hypocrisy area i have noticed among the young conservative movement students will proclaim socially conservative values but not practice them. whene win the battle statistics are on our side but our site is not on our side? >> a great point. my pal at the wall street journal wrote this wonderful piece about how individual corruption, talking about the archbishop who was tossed out , he saidting young men individual corruption is what
10:35 am
takes good ideas of good validity. when communists come into a country, they are more -- less corrupt than the capitalists in power. that is how they win. people say here is a guy who is not corrupt and they follow the communist into hell. you are right that you have to live the way -- what you believe. all i would say is this. i'm not here to tell you how to live your life. i do not care. i think i have met a lot of mistakes that made me who i am that i don't regret. you are going to do that. make sure your ideas makes sense. make sure ideas makes sense. if you are living a certain way and it doesn't jive with your ideas, change your ideas or change the way you live area did that is what i would say to those people. hypocrisy destroys your point of
10:36 am
view. it makes you a bad advertisement for the good. thatay to people, i'm not culturally conservative. but if you can't say that, don't do that. that is what i would say. without the meaning of your creed. >> my question is similar as the first question. it relates to the liberal biggest industry, tearing down conservative values among men's sexuality and ladies. the port industry. industry.he porn had we show the poor and industry is ofn the liberals making?
10:37 am
>> i am not sure that is fair. it has been with us since ancient rome. that has been with us. i don't want to tag the liberals with it. they have torn down every sexual moray that we had. i saw it happen. the world they created is a mess. why would you tear down sexual morality? they are noton -- a liberal about anything but sex and drugs. why? because sex and drugs make you a slave. when you are promiscuous, when you use drugs you're going to come crawling to the government and say help me, i had aids. i had children i can't support, i'm it did did. that is why they want that stuff. you have to live out the meaning of your creed. you have to live the things you believe in and show it gives you joy. it is not about condemning the
10:38 am
other guy. it never works. celebration is a great draw. >> the statement i get when arguing about culture, if we would only get rid of racist institutions and have equal representation among women in congress, ceos, within any other field, how would you go about answering that statement? >> what is there evidence? it has never happened. nothing is like that and live. in life wereing things gather equally. we have disparities. more tornadoes in america in america. it is more fair to tornadoes they whirl -- they will spill
10:39 am
out everywhere. it is a false idea. they are so afraid they don't blame things on racism they're going to have to blame them on race. underlying their fear is racism. they think laxer underperforming in this country it either has to be because of racism or their race is inferior. it is neither. it is a culture that promotes not working, not getting an education, not marrying the woman who has your children. it keeps people down in white hillbilly culture. i would do. i would refuse to argue about race. behaviors cause outcomes. that is the truth of it. that is what is going on. >> thank you.
10:40 am
>> i go to florida state university. a couple weeks ago we had a statue removed from campus because it was thomas jefferson's grandson who helped establish our university because he owned slave -- slaves. we stand uping how against that? well not being per trade as supporting -- portrayed as a wording that person because they own slaves. lifetimey in your everybody who supported abortion is going to have their name taken off of the air war. there will not be a nancy pelosi boulevard. people see the signs: the signs come irrefutable, those people who say go kill your kid
10:41 am
are going to look like what they are. we live in the narrative we live in. you have to respect that about people. in agent agent they had everything they needed to make a light all. were they stupid? no. human beings learn over time. we learn over time. to disrespect our ancestors because they made mistakes is incredibly cruel and unforgiving. you have to remember it is going to blow back on you. respect your ancestors in their day. respect them in their day because you want yourself to be respected 30 years down the line when it turns that you were doing something wrong. >> something you said a week ago has sparked my interest,
10:42 am
jefferson's words in the declaration when he says we hold these truths to be self evident, can you expand on what he meant? if they were self evident they would have existed and practice for a long time. how can that be used as an example of how there is a god or external moral standard that we need to compare the past to the present? that these things are self-evident. evident't think self means all the difference -- means obvious. it means it can't be proved but it's proof is everything else depends on it being true. two plus 18 was one, one plus one equals two. if it was obvious it would have been discovered long before. you have to think you have to fight coming have to die to get those ideas to birth. you look at them and say that is self evident. there is no way to prove it but we know it to be true because
10:43 am
everything else depends on it. that is what i think he means. so much of what we find self-evident is dependent on there being a god. the fact that we have values. that when things have meaning. if i strangle a child that is just not a piece of meat doing some thing to another piece of meat. it is evil. parablecan understand a proves there is a god. if you listen to about somebody doing something but you know it has a spiritual meaning, where did that come from? the fact that you know you are you and i am me over time, ultimately the atheists have to make the argument, and do make the argument you and they are an illusion. i love a guy telling me he doesn't ask this but i should listen to him -- doesn't exist but i should listen to him.
10:44 am
they have to make the argument that you and everything you feel and know to be true is an illusion. that is an absurdity. >> hello. i have a random question. on the conversation you offhandedly mentioned you have enjoyed playing video games. i was curious what the great andrew clayton enjoys. >> i have loved them from the beginning. i've always watch reynard will -- an article. erin burt saying pong. it was like the scene in the movie 2001. my life is over. this is all i want to do. when space invaders came out, i
10:45 am
played it so much i got a bump on my wrist. i thought it was dying. he said have you made any repeated pressing motions. i love them. because they have gotten so sophisticated. third really like our person shooters. i love god of war. i love all puzzle games. i love all moving puzzle games. there is one called inside or outside. i love that. >> now it is absolutely later it -- what left has done is the pro-life movement most effective response to persuading more people to join the
10:46 am
movement? >> science is on our side. science is going to increase. more people should be talking about what i have been talking about today, i made a speech to liberals once and they challenge me on abortion. i said i'm always for the smallest guy in the room. how do you fight against that. tell that kid story. that is how they work. every time to republican says he is against abortion somebody says what about rape or incensed? they never say do you believe in abortion if the child is a girl? because it is going to be cap are torn or sagittarius question mark it is legal because your kid is a girl. it is legal because it hasn't got the right horse go. speak up for the child. that voice is silent. you have to be that voice.
10:47 am
it is not about condemning. it is about reading that other narrative to life. >> i'm from howard county committee college. one of ronald reagan's best tools was the ability to disarm opponents with humor and stories about his opponents politically. why do conservatives not use this more in the 25, 30 years since? >> if someone is in government he is probably not going to be a natural conservative. conservatives say you should have less power. a person and government once power. that is their personality. reagan's tools because they don't support reagan's agenda. that is the wonderful thing about donald trump. they keep calling him an authoritarian. branchmade the executive
10:48 am
less powerful. chuck schumer is saying you make the law. you are the executive. they don't know because they don't believe in it. the bushes were wonderful people but when george bush replaced ronald reagan, he said it's going to be a kinder, gentler presidency. george w. bush said i'm a compassionate conservative. apologetic?y they don't use reagan's tools because they don't have reagan's certainty of the loss of the. reagan new conservatism down to the ground. he knew he was standing up for the one great political truth that has come out of history. it was easy for him to be relaxed. plus he was an actor. that helped.
10:49 am
>> i was running what your vision of the future of the pro-life movement is and what cultural changes take ways for abortion to be ended in our time? >> it is important that roe v. wade be overturned if for no other reason than to start the conversation again. the new york times keep saying if it is overturned you're going to be living in the handmaid's tale. decisions will be made in the states. that is where those decisions are supposed to be made. then you get to have the argument again. i am hopeful about this. it is going to go one way or the other. abortion is going to go the way of slavery as it should or we are going to be living in a post-human world and it is not going to be fun. good luck. i'll be gone. i'm optimistic. i think the science is on our side and i think our voices will we have learned how to talk to people. they were raving and pounding on
10:50 am
your bibles. that doesn't help. you have to make the argument slow by slow. i believe we are going to win. i believe the facts are on our side. jeremy. my one question regarding you mentioned abortion, you know hopefully overturning it. what do you feel are the odds of brett kavanaugh getting into the supreme court based on resistance from the left? do you feel there is hope? >> i think he is going to get in. he is a washington guy. he knows how to do what he is doing. there is nothing they can pull against him that is going to destroy him. we have the votes to do it. i think he will get in. the left has overplayed their hand.
10:51 am
