tolerate this kind of ruthless action to silence mr. khashoggi. maintain a strong partnership with the kingdom of saudi arabia, neither the president nor i are happy with the situation. our shared strategic interests with saudi arabia remain, we remain to view as achievable the twin imperatives of protecting america and holding accountable those responsible for the killing of mr. khashoggi. week, a delegation of cuban diplomats through a childish temper tantrum at a un-sponsored gathering. highlightinging the cuban regime's intolerance of political operation. response, i have written a letter to the un's secretary-general requesting to know what measures the you will take to respond to these actions and make sure that they do not happen again. finally, it is my honor to tell you that investor dan smith will

i'm wondering if you agree with that characterization. if you could be more suspicious specific about the visa regulations, how many are we talking about? on the migrants, what would you say to people who would criticize your comments just now as being disingenuous by telling them to apply for refugee status when this administration has slashed the number of refugees it will limit. >> you just us three question. i assume everyone in the room would've been very disappointed in you. let me take the last one. this is a historically generous nation. there is no mistaking that. it will continue to be so. those who want to come here legally have every means available to do that. people can file to be refugees and other countries.

what we know is this. we are a nation built on laws. we have an obligation to protect american sovereignty and to secure our borders, to make sure we know who was coming in and out of our country. it's the duty of the united states government. we will continue to execute that with great energy and vigor. second, i will get you the numbers. i want to make sure i get them right. iere's not a lot more that can say about it, other than to say this is not the last step. we will continue to do our own efforts, our own fact-finding to make sure that decisions that the united states makes are based on real facts and data that we can confirm ourselves. we will certainly take information that comes from other sources, the turkish intelligence service. we will evaluate that information and validated. we will form our own judgments about the fact and hold those responsible accountable based on the fact that we determine are appropriate. congress, i with

policy with respect to south-central asia has not changed. the expectation is that pakistan will not provide safe harbor to terrorists on their western border. we couldn't have made that message anymore clear. pakistan will be held to account if they don't achieve that. we don't believe we can get to the place that everyone wants. everyone wants a reconciliation in afghanistan. to achieve that, you can't have a safe harbor for taliban and others inside of pakistan. the pakistani government knows that's our view. this administration has already made significant efforts to hold them accountable. we help that they will achieve the goal that we have set out for them. thank you very much. commente president's about the worst cover-up ever, does the trump administration still have trust and confidence

in the crown prince of saudi arabia as a reliable security partner? is there a believe that he might have been part of the cover-up? should he step aside until it has been established whether he played a role of any kind in the killing? >> we are learning the fact. as the facts unfold, as we continue to develop our understanding of the individuals that were responsible for this, who not only executed it but lead and were involved, the world should know that we intend to hold those individuals accountable when we develop that. we hope to continue to learn facts. we have learned a lot over the last few days. we hope to learn a lot over the next 72 hours. thank you. president erdogan said today

that this was a predesignated murder. the president says it is the worst cover-up. the saudi's telling us it was an and at to hold khashoggi turkish safe house for two days. do you accept that expiration? you personally were told one-story and it has evolved over the days. do you think that the saudis are still covering this up? do you feel misled by them? you feel personally misled by the crown prince? do you accept what president erdogan has it to you? >> i haven't said what the crown prince told me. i don't talk about those discussions. i don't intend to. we are going to accept what erica learned. we will accept the data set we are able to develop. we have people working all across the world to figure out what we can determine to put our

own understanding together. i talked about the work that we have helped the state department with. that has to be our work. we have to develop our own data set. it will be our work, we will take in all the data sets. we will validated. we will in the facts for ourselves. >> are they giving you what you need to know? >> the turks have been very cooperative with us. the turks have told us that the saudis have cooperated with them as well. officials heard the audio tape? >> i don't have anything to share with you about particular data sets. we will continue to keep you informed as we learn. you will see the united states hold the persons that we believe should be held accountable, hold the mcgonagle.
