of fear tactics to divide us. is up. thank you very much for joining us this evening. [applause] and later today, president trump and vice president pence are heading to indianapolis for a campaign rally to endorse republican candidates. we will have live coverage you're on c-span at 7:15 this evening. the president is also visiting west virginia today and he spoke to reporters as he departed the white house. he talked about the midterm elections. reporter: [indiscernible] be a veryp: it will exciting five days. we are doing numerous trips to numerous great places, great states. and i hear we are doing very well but we will let you know on
4:36 pm
tuesday night. you will know before i well, i suspect. i will say that we had tremendous job numbers today. we just -- it was just released -- 200 50,000 new jobs created in the month of october. that was shocking for a lot of people. that was a tremendous number by any standard. and that is despite the hurricanes. they normally have a big impact. and i am sure these hurricanes that were massive had a big impact. 250,00050,000 new -- new jobs in october. we also had a wage increase of 3.1%. a perfect increase. the country is doing i think maybe you could say better than it has ever done. we have a lot of new companies moving into the united states.

and that is where we are letting people in. we are letting them in based on merit. we need workers. we need people to come in at 3.7% which was also announced this morning. 3.7% -- 25,000 jobs, jobs, 3.7% wage increase. unbelievable numbers. [indiscernible] pres. trump: sure. mr. president, are you really ok with the military firing? pres. trump: they won't be firing. i don't want people throwing rocks. it was just announced by homeland security that in certain areas they know there are 300 people that are trouble. what they did to the mexican military was a disgrace.
4:38 pm
they hit them with rocks. some were seriously injured. they were throwing rocks in their face. willdo that with us they be arrested and there will be problems. i did not say "shoot." but if they do that to us they will be arrested for a long time. we will arrest them. c.e. and border patrol are there with the military. discernible] -- indiscernible pres. trump: who are you talking about? do you know who will decide that? the supreme court will determine that. the supreme court is going to determine that. many, many people feel that. go ahead. [indiscernible] pres. trump: we have had very
4:39 pm
good discussions with china. we are getting much closer to doing something. they very much want to do a deal. going wayomy has been down since we have been doing this skirmish. -- the to president chinese president yesterday and they very much want to do a deal. it will be a good deal for the united states. [indiscernible] g20. pres. trump: we have agreed to meet at the dinner. we will have dinner and discuss this. i think a very good deal will be made with china. we want to do a deal if we can. a lot of progress has been made. a lot of progress. understand that if a deal is not made, we are doing very well the way we are doing it right now.
4:40 pm
you understand that. billion at 25% and it could be elevated by another 267 billion dollars at 27% -- at 25% or more. but i believe, i know they want to make a deal. their economy has been hit very hard. if we can make the right deal for this country and also, they will make the right deal for them. if we can open up china and make it fair for the first time ever, this should have been done years ago by other presidents but it was not. i am very willing to do it. but china much wants to make a deal. [indiscernible] pres. trump: who was arrested? i wish him luck. [laughter] [indiscernible] pres. trump: no, no, no.
4:41 pm
but if our soldiers or border .e. are hit in the face with rocks, we are going to arrest those people. not shoot them. but we will arrest them and for a long period of time. everything we are doing is totally legal. it has all gone through the courts. we have one of the few systems where instead of telling people you cannot come in, we take them in and we have to take them through a court system. it is the most ridiculous system in the world. it is obsolete but that is not the problem. the problem is that it is a stupid system and it does not work. the democrats and the itublicans could change immediately. we could do it in one day. we could have it fixed.
4:42 pm
but the democrats do not want to do it because they are playing politics. i think it is very bad politics because the people of this country know what is going on better than they do. and you know what? we could fix our immigration system in one day if we could sit down with them but they do not want to do it. because they want and open border. an open borders breed crimes. upy want those people coming by the thousands. and you know, honestly, they have always come up. they want them to pour into the country. and there are a lot of bad people. there are criminals. people with records. people with criminal records. we could fix the system so quickly, so easily, but we need some democrat votes. or more republicans. if we had more republicans, it would be fixed immediately. reporter: [indiscernible]
4:43 pm
start onmp: sanctions iran. they are very serious sanctions. a are very big and will be elevated from there. as you know, sanctions are it isng on iran and taking a very big hits. the country is not the same country as when i started almost two years ago. iran is a much different country since i terminated that deal. that was one of the most ridiculous deals ever made why e,y country, at any tim the iran nuclear deal. sanctions have been elevated as of -- you know when, as of next week. [indiscernible] pres. trump: the democrats never had a bipartisan agreement. they are trying to say that.
4:44 pm
tell them to come around and see me. they had an agreement that was a one-sided agreement that i would never approve. catch ando get rid of release. you have to get rid of chain immigration. you have to get rid of the lottery. they never agreed to any of that. [indiscernible] pres. trump: i hope they want. but you know what? forre not going to stand people doing what they did to the mexican military and the build -- and the mexican police. they were very badly injured. the military and police. what they did -- with rocks thrown in their faces -- not going to happen. reporter: [indiscernible] pres. trump: you are creating violence by your question. .ou are creating
4:45 pm
you. and also a lot of the reporters are creating violence i'm not writing the truth. the fate news is creating -- the fake news is creating violence. the people that support us, a lot of people, most people, many people -- those people know when a story is true and they know when a story is false. i tell you what -- if the media would write correctly and accurately and fairly, you would have a lot less violence in the country. [indiscernible] pres. trump: i think we are doing very well. certainly well in the senate. which is obviously very important. and i think we are also going to do well in the house. we are going to see. i can only say this -- the house is a lot of stuff. [indiscernible]
4:46 pm
pres. trump: what is your next question? how many questions do you have? no more. doing a perfect executive order and the border is closed to these people. they are not coming in. they will go through the system and then shifted back depending on what happens with a silent -- with a silent -- with asylum. , all of, el salvador these countries are getting millions of dollars and are doing nothing for us. people, letting their and they have formed their caravans in the country. they are doing nothing. we are paying them hundreds of millions of dollars --guess what? that money is going to stop very soon. thank you all very much. reporter: [indiscernible]
4:47 pm
pres. trump: say it again. i have no idea what you're saying. we are doing very well with china. that isaid over there just spoke with the chinese president yesterday. we had a great conversation. he wants to make a deal. are getting more than a million dollars and that has never happened with china before. china has been hit very hard. we have the best job numbers you can imagine. 250,000 today. it was just announced for the month of october. unemployment which is fantastic.
4:48 pm
and wages going up. opportunities going way up where people can now get the job that they want. the numbers are about as good as you will ever see. and that is despite the really bad hurricanes. that deeply detract from the numbers. i am sure they would have been better. --, to under 50,000 jobs 250,000 jobs in october is really shocking. larry kudlow, and kevin -- all of these people, they were so impressed so we are really doing it. think it may be the greatest economy our country has ever had. i hope people realize that when they go out on tuesday and vote or do early voting. but i hope people realize that. thank you very much.

well, a final message to voters is number one, we want to have strong borders. but, if you look at what is happening with our country, we have the greatest economy we probably have ever had. we just had among the best job numbers we have ever had. created despite tremendous hurricanes which are always a tremendous detriment. we never thought those numbers could be anywhere near that because of the hurricanes. really, the we have -- we have the greatest economy we have ever had. 3.7% unemployment. we are doing some special things. tremendous tax reduction and people are bringing home more money. and you know what else about the jobs? people can now go out and get the job that they want. what weking of choice, have done for the military and the veterans that we have gotten
