10:53 am
every two years. 111.7 million voted in the midterms, slightly topping the turnout rate of 47.3% in the 1970's midterms. it does not beat the 1966 numbers of 48.7%. uncertainty here among the high volume mail ballots. we will keep checking in with michael mcdonald. a reminder of where we are, coming up on 11 a.m. eastern. 413 races have been called. the latest out of michigan, mike bishop losing his reelection to a democrat in that race. democrats have flipped 29 republican held seats. republicans have flipped two democrat held seats.
10:54 am
we are still watching 22 races. democrats are ahead in seven seats currently held by republicans. republicans currently ahead in one seat held by a democratic member of congress. democratic gains could rise as much as perhaps 33 or more depending on the results. the senate race now. you heard from senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. he will remain majority leader if elected by his conference again, 51 seats with four raises outstanding. let's take you through them. montana, senator jon tester remains behind matt rosen dale. jon tester with 48.2%. matt at 48.9%. aheada, martha mcsally is .n her bid to replace

10:56 am
nancy pelosi." comments on social media. you can make comments about yesterday. republican line, massachusetts, linda from chicopee. caller: how are you. host: i am fine. caller: as far as i'm concerned, the democrats winning the house is a blessing and a curse. can young because, imagine what america would look like today if they had lost? they would be tearing up the cities, burning things up. they are completely out of control. if they do not get their way, they are insane. it is sad. it really is sad. they cannot control themselves. host: what is the curse? caller: the curse? host: you said it is a blessing and a curse. caller: the curse is that they won. they will raise hell with our president and i am tired of it
10:57 am
and i think a lot of people in america are tired of it. the rioting, the screaming, the carrying on, the marching on washington. they are out of their minds, they really are. host: new york, independent, roy. good morning. caller: good morning. i am extremely disappointed with the outcome of the election. putting aside the results, you have probably 115 million people who voted, which represents half of the registered voters in the country. there are still 116 million people who do not understand the privilege it is to vote, don't understand their vote matters, we still do not have a good gauge of what america wants, when half the population has not participated in the process. what we have seen in this election more than anything else
10:58 am
is that people are still voting party line. people are still voting color. liberal versus conservative. no one is focusing on the issues. everyone is voting against their own best interests because of their blind allegiance to a color or label. in anyyou move forward country or any environment with that type of childish mentality? host: what is your top issue and who did you vote for because of that? caller: i am independent. not democrat, republican. i have never been a member of a party. when i graduated from high school i was recruited by both but their number one mandate was that you had to be loyal regardless whether you believe in the platform are not. i am not that person. i voted for different people in different areas based on what their policies were, but there platforms are. i vote my best interest. host: give me an example. caller: sometimes it is republican, sometimes democrat.
10:59 am
i do not want to talk over the air about who i voted for. the reality is, the one thing everyone should know is, i and they should not vote based on loyalties to a color or party as opposed to understanding what the issue is, how it affects them and their neighbors and making decisions based on that. host: ok. michigan, democrat line, bill. caller: hello. host: hi. caller: good morning c-span, good morning pedro. this is a super bowl for us c-span fanatics. it is great to be on with you. 10 years since i've been on. much, amazing to me how how divided this country really is, right down the middle. you have your so-called blue states and so-called red states, they are still so close. i think, my point is i think it
11:00 am
is time for term limits for congress. we have term limits on the president, and constitutionally, if there are term limits on the president, there should be term limits on congress because the money is getting out of hand. tomorrow these people will be on the phones, raising money, and our interests bea damned. the big money is up to control politics. host: did you vote yesterday? caller: i sure did and i vote straight democratic because i believe the democrats support the working man. there are big republicans and little republicans. the little republicans have been buffaloed into believing the republican party is for them. the republican party is for the elite. host: what did you like about your new governor?
11:01 am
caller: i particularly did not like her but i voted for her. i think she is a little too liberal. we will see how she works with the other side. our state representatives have gone democrat, i believe. maybe they will be able to work together now and get something done. i hope the whole country can get thisher and get rid of all vitriol and work together to do things like health care and things that affect the working man. host: diane in kansas, republican line. caller: good morning. everybody i voted for lost. when i listened to this gentleman from massachusetts, i think that we have to come
11:02 am
together as a country. lost, hough my candidates i want to explain a couple things. first of all, laura kelly, i did not vote for her. i'm not worried about it. i think she is pragmatic. i can live with that. number two, my man kevin lost. i'm concerned about that. ms. davis got tons of outside money, from outside the state. group supported her as well as big democratic funders. here's the problem. republican national committee did not even support kevin yoder, did not give him the funding he needed to win this race. it was lost long ago. the polls were exactly right. she was going to win and she
11:03 am
did. she is a very liberal representative. it will change our district. host: that is diane in kansas. just after 11:00, you are not imagining things. the show continues even though we normally end up 10:00. facebook posts on the results of the election. (202)-748-8000 for democrats, (202)-748-8001 for republicans, (202)-748-8002 for independents. the president is expected to speak at 11:30 a.m. this morning. we will take you to that live. jim in california, you are next. caller: thank you. i do not think it was that big a deal, the elections, that democrats won the house. they picked up a little more than average. nowhere near what people were hoping. i think trump, has not turned out to be the equivalent of
11:04 am
-- the extreme right, the antichrist figure, which he became for the extreme left. his policies are pretty much normal republican policies, at least for the last 10 or 20 years. i do not know why everybody thinks there is this great split between the party and the president. a lot of people don't like his style and i understand that. the democrats are going to have to shift a lot in the coming election. it is not just, trump is a horrible person. we have been hearing that for three years. time,l be an interesting i am looking forward to seeing who the democrats and up nominating for president. thank you for taking the call. nominating for president. host 2: looking for statements
11:05 am
from political figures past and present for the morning. the latest from former president barack obama. his statement saying "on a personal note, michelle and i could not be prouder of the alumni of our administration who took the baton and won their races. they have infused new energy and blood into the democratic process and america will be better off for a long time to come. i want to congratulate voters for turning out in record numbers and for voting for several ballot initiatives that will improve the lives of the american people, like raising minimum wage, expanding medicaid, and expanding voting rights. the change we need will come comeone election -- won't from one election but it is a start. going forward we will return to the values we expect in public life, honesty, decency, compromise, and standing up for dne another as americans, boun
11:06 am
together by one common creed." host: a picture of gretchen voters turned out in large numbers to elect the new governor. she will lead the state for the next four years. that from the detroit free press. another female in the spot line. kim reynolds, the republican winning her first full term as governor. that is the photo provided by the gazette of iowa. linda in colorado, democrat line, you are next. go ahead, good morning. caller: good morning. i was calling in to say my opinion on election. i do not believe in the one party system. i do not believe one party should have total control of the american people, that sets the agenda. i am all in favor of democrats controlling one party and the republicans controlling another party.
11:07 am
i am also in favor of term limits. we need term limits. i don't think a center should have -- a senator should have the ability to win the election 3, 4 times. we are talking about 30 years of the same individual in this position, which can be brought, you have special interest groups, knowing that this person is going to win election after election, that is six years in office for one term. i think we need to have term limits implemented in the system. i think that needs to be discussed. i think that needs to be implemented. host: the washington post this morning showing results. 69 districts hold leading up to election day, talking about what people found important -- polled leading up to election day. when did you make up your mind on who to support for congress in your district? 14% saying it was in the last few days.
11:08 am
20% said it was in october. 13% said it was in september. 53% saying the decision was made before september. questions about the economy, which some people have commented on this morning. "would youn posed -- describe the state of the nation as" -- 26% saying it was excellent. 19% saying the state of the economy not so good. only 4% rating it as poor. calling fromo, portland, ohio, republican line. caller: i wanted to comment on the election yesterday. i think we did a good job as a nation and god has given us the opportunity to really get together. i hope they can work as a bipartisan group. we can solve these crazy
11:09 am
problems. host: what is chief among those problems? caller: immigration, is the main thing. will halt the rise in incomes. it is our jobs, our food, everything. we need to watch who we bring in, we need to only bring those like trump says, we need to bring those who can help us out. host: do you think it helps or hurts the president talking about immigration in the final days of the campaign? caller: i think it helped. host: why? tired: i think people are of, you know, people are just tired. people are tired of the rhetoric , tired of listening to all the problems. it seems like you take one step
11:10 am
forward and two steps back. host: north carolina is where william is on the independent line. caller: good morning pedro and america. schola --o previous callers. i believe we need to come together, we are all in this together. as far as the president with the lies and stuff that he is constantly calling, i hope i do not ever have to go to the pearly gates with these type of people going to be in my judgment. all of us at some point or another have committed all kind of stuff, that a lot of us have asked for forgiveness. that is what the lord, god and the bible preaches. i am in north carolina and i would like to congratulate north carolinians for voting for the way the state needed to go. as far as immigration, i am a firm believer we need id.
11:11 am
you cannot go anywhere. i am disabled. i cannot go anywhere, cannot pick a check up, cannot do anything without an id. i recently bought a new car. i cannot go through my dmv ithout up-to-date picture id, do not understand what the big problem would be with that. host: you had said you were happy that the people voted for the way the state needed to go? who are you referencing? caller: i'm referencing the republicans. i voted split ticket. i am in raleigh. we have people on the democratic side including my sheriff and my local community, split ticket. i feel like in north carolina we are starting on a new economic upturn. raleigh, i have seen the jobs, the people in my community, going back to work in making decent money.
11:12 am
i keep in touch and watched c-span. i would like to see this continue. i'm afraid at this point that with all the animosity and stuff, divide between the urban and inside city, with the country, splitting themselves along lines between poor and rich or however you want to put it -- i just hope, i am from north carolina. there are a lot of people out here that have their backs against the wall at this point. i feel like, especially with folks that were saying with people tearing the cities up if they hadn't got their way on the democratic side, sometimes when you push and you push someone against the back wall, eventually they will turn around and bite you like a dog. host: that is william and north carolina. we have been focusing on several states as we bring you election
11:13 am
coverage from yesterday. from across the united states, focus on. host 2: interesting story out of maine. a reminder of what happened in the governor's race last night. john moody is the republican, janet mills, the democrat running to replace paul lepage. john moody, an ally of paul lepage. janet mills wins 51.1%. reported left to be but the race has been called. -- 18% left. the press herald out of maine with the story. "she showed up at the medicaid expansion lawsuit court hearing on wednesday morning, the morning after winning her election. she was here to listen to the lawsuit where an activist group is suing the lepage administration for failing to
11:14 am
implement medicaid expansion." mills is a strong supporter of medicaid expansion. implementshe will " medicaid expansion immediately after taking office in january, using existing state funds." particularly interesting story and light of health being such an important issue democrats ran on there. host: from indiantown, florida, democrat line. caller: yes. my name is humor, i am a democrat -- hubert. i have a mixed view of the elections. i was happy with the amendments. with theappointed governorship in the senate. rick scott is a criminal. that is a fact. host: what do you think about bill nelson asking for recount in the race? caller: my personal opinion, he
11:15 am
should have been replaced. i do not like who he got replaced with. you know, it was about time for him to go. he is one of those guys with the good old boy system, in his nature. it is sad we would come to this in this country. there has to be changes top to bottom. it didction in florida, not surprise me the way it turned out. like i said, we need a lot of change. host: in florida, you had 12 constitutional amendments you could vote on. the one youe most, are paying attention to the most? caller: 4. host: which is what? caller: it restore the voting rights of convicted felons. host: why was that important to you? caller: because, i have relatives, convicted and stuff.
11:16 am
that was not like they committed murder or rape. i think they should get a second chance. host: that is hubert from florida talking about the race, the constitutional amendments involved. republican line, brian from youngstown, ohio. you are next, good morning. caller: thank you for taking my call. i want to congratulate mike. he has worked hard for the governorship. he deserves it. agree, with term limits. one of our senators has been a senator since 1994. up.have interests that pop i want to state that with the
11:17 am
governor ships that were won by taking back the senate, the red wave is real. there are indictments coming down. trust the plan. there will be special elections. where we go one, we go all. host: florida, independent. caller: i am for term limits. there is too many people been in there too long. the main reason i'm calling is the news media, all of it, fox, cbs, nbc, all of them, i believe all reporters should be held accountable for statements they make on the air. host: how does that relate to yesterday? the statements they make on the air effects elections. when they say somebody is a
11:18 am
racist, like they were calling trump a racist and anti-semitic here he hasng else, people in his family that are for israel. the news media needs to be held accountable. how does that stretch to the democrats winning the house and the senate being held by republicans? caller: well, i think you need both parties in the government. you have a counterbalance for each party. host: delray beach, florida, hill, democrat. -- bill. caller: long time, first time. florida had a lot of down ballot issues. i am registered democrat but i stepped over the line and voted for donald trump in the previous election. rick desantis is doing quite well. he will pull it off.
11:19 am
governor scott did a lot of good around the lake okeechobee area with sugar behind him, they purchased large sections of land, that they will turn into washbasins to clean up the mess that big sugar created. they bought that land and now that goes back to the states. it is not the army corps of engineers. it is the state of florida. criminals being reinstated for voting rights i thought was very important. you did the crime, you did the time, you are still american. host: the rick scott race what do you think of the recount? caller: business as usual. it is a tight race. did a lot oft positive advertising. there was some nasty stuff. bill nelson hasn't done anything in 25 years. host: were you going to vote for andrew gillum in the governor
11:20 am
race? caller: no. host: why? caller: tallahassee is a different place. sort of like washington dc is a bubble. so is tallahassee. there is a lot of people in the rest of the state that were being ignored for a long time. he was promising the sky and there was no money behind it. from florida bill calling in on the results of yesterday. donna from indiana, republican line, doing the same. caller: hello. i have never called in ever before until now. you know, americans, we need to come together. i think there should be no more republicans, no more democrats, no more liberals. we should all be one. republican but i did vote some democrats.
11:21 am
that is what i think. we should all come together and know that we are americans. not republican, not democrat. take care of us. with, every time the government wants to shut down, what is the first thing you put on tv? they might take away social security. that is my money they took out of my paycheck that i worked over 30 years. host: texas, next. bob, independent. caller: yes, pedro. my major issue is principles. it seems like every problem we have revolves around us not following the rules or the principles on which we are founded. overreach,le of that the call from kansas on kevin yoder, i looked up the funding
11:22 am
for his opposition. it is like so many others. it is like ted cruz. there were a number of others, politicians i revere that had appointments opposed by alphabet, major publicly funded universities. to bring this back to the principal thing -- the federal government has no power to have anything to do with education. host: how does that relate to yesterday's events and the midterms? the ted cruzeason race was so close was $79 million being paid by publicly funded schools. six of beto o'rourke's top funders, number two was the university of texas.
11:23 am
number one was j street. number three was alphabet. that seems to be common. they're trying to buy senators moreongressman, to affect of a publicly federal education system that is unconstitutional. host: that is bob in texas. aining us on the phone, couple minutes before the president is expected to speak around 11:30 a.m. reporters gathering at the white house. we will bring you that press conference when it starts. until then, here is john. host 2: all morning long we have been talking about the makeup of the 116th congress. what it will look like when it is seated in january. it will have the most women ever. from a congresswoman,
11:24 am
"make no mistake, this was historic. i am so proud of the women trailblazers that mobilized, ran for office and cast ballots. you made history." the center of american women in politics has been tracking. 95 women, 83 democrats and 12 republican have been elected to the house and 12 elected to the senate. when combined with current theers, that comes up with 117 number. number, 10 the 115th more women. 23 in the senate, 84 in the house. host: democrat line, linda, hello. caller: how are you? host: i am fine, thanks. caller: i am disappointed with
11:25 am
the election for the senate and the governor. if it wasn't for wasting my $.50, i would like to send governor scott a congratulatory -- congratulations you ripped off the state of florida for how many years? now you get to rip off the country. as far as term limits -- that people do not get out and vote, that is why they do not get removed from office. host: what did you support about bill nelson? caller: he has been much more honest than rick scott. i had several issues i ended up using him and his office for and they came through with flying colors. i felt like he was the one that would be there for us always. host: for andrew gillum? caller: take a look at how he grew up. he grew up the way the difficult way, many of the people in this country have grown up, and had all the difficulties. what is he doing?
11:26 am
trying to help others. he is not trying to rip off anyone. you has been working on doing his best and i was proud of him of what he said last night. you."l be there to help that means a lot. host: that is linda from florida. this is john. host 2: before the president comes in, i want to update the viewers on a race we have been watching on the senate side, montana. jon tester trying to hold his seat. 347 -- i'm down to sorry, 1347 votes. tightening as reporting comes in. 14% yet to be reported. jon tester just behind matt rosen dale. host: 11:30 a.m., scheduled start time for president trump postelection press conference.
11:27 am
we will take you as soon as it starts. north carolina, republican, marie. watching was shocked the regular newscast. i normally watch c-span and other neutral broadcasts. people, ocked to see regular broadcasters calling trump a liar and other ridiculous comments. trump will gold down with abraham lincoln as one of the most historically significant presidents our country has ever had. the people that were saying bad things about donald trump have never actually listened to donald trump or seen the remarkable accomplishments he has done for our country, like the shocking improvement in our economy. we have historical lows for unemployment and historical highs for employment, especially among minorities, in this
11:28 am
country. there has never been such high employment rates, such low unemployment rates for blacks, hispanics, any minorities in this country. why: if that is the case, do those things not translate out to the house where democrats took power and republicans lost? caller: because the media covers up these things and then when he talks about it, they call him a liar. i watched them yesterday calling him a liar. it does not translate into the general public. the general public sees his businessman, not political personality. they just do not report the truth of what he has accomplished. historically, he will go down as the number two most successful president we have ever had. host: that is marie in north carolina.
11:29 am
annapolis, independent line, jack. caller: thank you for taking my call. career, it my voting has always been as independent. this year i voted straight republican ticket. the main thing that influenced my votes was on immigration. employed for a number of years in the corrections, here in the state of indiana. i had noticed in the last 15 years, that the number or percentage of hispanics that have risen in the prison system has been dramatic. after you are around for a while, you talk to people and they tell you reasons why they are here. some of them -- this is not a lot of them -- one of the reasons is, they say they can come to america, work 24/7 for two years and then go back to
11:30 am
mexico and live like kings for the rest of their lives. most of them have no remorse as to what it is doing to our society or our families. to what it is doing to our society or families. i do believe there is a systemic problem of not having our borders controlled and having the flow and influx of drugs is one of the things that influenced my vote. host: so how do that issue change with the house in democratic hands as of next year. caller: i am hoping they can reason, sit down at the table as reason among themselves to what really is the best thing for the american people, and i am talking about -- i know we need a lot of people here to at theo the problem border as far as immigration needs to be fixed. they need to allow a lot more people to come in legally.
11:31 am
if they have to increase their number of people there to process a larger number of people, i agree with that. host: ok, ok. that is jack in indiana. indiana is next. kathy, jump right in. caller: i would like to comment on the preacher from north -- what, when he said is the difference between abortions and the nra with guns? what is the difference? advocate having abortions than homosexuality, .ut god say be merciful god gives you mercy and grace, and democrats want everybody to have the same rights. [inaudible] what was the difference? host: gary in pennsylvania,
11:32 am
republican line. hello. hi, i watched your thing with mitch mcconnell, and somebody asked him about women and minorities, are you going to outreach? well yeah, we are going to do that, but the correct answer should have been -- this is according to ball otpedia, 39 races do not feature a republican candidate in 2018. to be fair, there were only three races that did not feature across, but -- democrats, but that is through both being handed to the democrats for nothing. mcconnell's answer should have been, when we are allowing something like that to happen, we should be taking whoever is most qualified, regardless of gender, race, regardless of what boat they came over on or anything else. one of the races -- in
11:33 am
fact, the only race in pennsylvania is the district i am in, and i voted for the democrat before. when the republicans -- when the democrats start talking impeachment, you know, everybody is wearing their own colors. he would have voted for impeachment. host: who was the person you voted for? did not vote for anybody, because he ran unopposed. caller: so you did -- host: so you did not vote yesterday? caller: no, i voted early. i voted for casey, the way he voted for judge kavanaugh, i voted against him. were -- wolfe and wagner, as far as i'm concerned, were in a dead heat. i believe i voted for wagner on
11:34 am
that one. host: let's hear from jim, redline, pennsylvania on the republican line. caller: good morning and thank you for taking my call. first of all, i was a former democrat for lost 30 years and i of timeafter a period that when democratic candidates run for office, they say a great deal of good things, but when they get into office they do the exact opposite. that is why i changed my -- i honestly changed my registration. i looked at this year's candidates. in florida, we had a candidate running for governor that was being investigated by the fbi. he was a democrat. in texas, we had somebody againstfor the senate cruz who was a convicted felon. he left the scene of an accident with a dwi. senator casey was named twice the least effective senator in the senate of the united states. those are just a few examples of exactly why i changed my registration. i'm not totally happy with the
11:35 am
republicans, but unfortunately i see in the democratic party the same old thing. we say things when we are running for office and once we get into office, we just simply do the exact opposite. calls, gain, where taking tweets, and facebook postings on yesterday'ss -- on election results. you will be able to do that on the social media site and the phones throughout the day. we are waiting for the president to come to the podium to speak from the white house to reference and talk about the results of yesterday's election, what it means for the remainder of his first term in office, and he will be asked questions from reporters about that. that was scheduled to start five minutes ago. again, we will take you to that as soon as it starts. our next colors from saint -- our next caller is from st. louis on the democrat line. caller: hi, i am just trying to look for the light in the
11:36 am
darkness that we have been under for two years. i am so happy that the democrats took the house back, and i just feel super sad that i just had to call and say that. host: what makes you sad? caller: pardon? host: what makes you sad? well, donald trump, the republicans, and to realize i live in a red state around him andhat just follow what he says, and all the ugly, ugliness and racism that he has. it just makes me sad. host: what did you think about claire mccaskill losing? caller: profoundly sad. and i am really sad that and wagner won in ann the house of representatives.
11:37 am
i guess the values they all have are not like mine, and so we will see what happens. host: i suppose that would extend to claire mccaskill's -- the one who beat her, josh hawley? caller: josh hawley is a duplicate of our past governor and donald trump, and i just don't agree with their values. host: ohio is next, john in bellefontaine. caller: hello, great show today. aren't you to be an american out there, americans? whatever party you are for. i was a veteran. i thought for you. i did not care what party you were. president trump is not a racist. face-to-face.s grow up and be happy that we had a fair election. i am not happy that the democrats are in, but i will some work done and hope they do the right thing, as i did with
11:38 am
president obama. i do not like how trump talks sometimes, but he does the right thing and he loves this country. american veterans fought for you so you have this right. thank you very much. host: from lincoln, nebraska, republican line. good morning. >> yes sir, thank you for taking my call. i hear a lot of divisiveness. to the veteran that called last, i believe that. i also believe in term limits for congress. but i want to get to something -- i believe a lot of this is man-made divisiveness, and there thingsthings -- so many we need to secure. they called for infrastructure. the last four presidents. nobody moves on it. i am terrified of cyber security. listen. i live here in lincoln, nebraska.
11:39 am
town was without heat for a week. we are going to go nuts. it is going to happen, folks. fischer won reelection. did you support her? caller: no, i voted against her. but it is soican, read here i only do republican when i feel it is necessary. host: why did you vote against deb fischer ? caller: she was on the armed services committee, and i asked her office, what about the girls who want to be the green berets and qualified physically and mentally? should they have the right to do that? i never got a call from her. i got a little letter that said yeah, everyone has the right to do the best they can and they should obtain a quality for
11:40 am
that. well, what is she doing? these people don't do anything. it is just same old, same old, you know? host: then what it is it about jane grable that you support? caller: she is an honest woman. she has a grocery exchange. her brother and father started it. what else do i support about her? we voted to expand medicaid for all, that we could buy into it rather than having the insurance companies take our premiums. host: that is howl from lincoln, nebraska. again, calling in in response and reaction from yesterday. john mcardle has been supplying us with data as it comes in on the races yesterday, and here he is. guest: we wait for the president's remarks, which gives us a chance to update the races we have been watching all morning.
11:41 am
in montana, jon tester trying to hold onto his seat in montana. it is down to about 1000 votes between the democratic senator and matt rosen dale, the republican. i also want to update you on the arizona senate race, down to congresswomanor martha mcsally, still in the drivers seat with 49.3%. the democrat, kristin sinema, 48.4%. us from st.s joins louis, missouri, democrat line. go ahead. caller: good morning, pedro. i think the democrats have a problem. they really don't have a clear, a positive focus, you know? something that would mobilize the people. there is a lot of complaining. they are not going to offer any good solutions or alternatives, i think one thing, people need to get back to what former president john kennedy said --
11:42 am
don't ask what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. there are a lot of simple measures that could be taken that would make life much better , the economy run smoother, but instead we are reaching for this big high in the sky, which is kind of unrealistic. host: what would you suggest the democrats focus on? caller: get back to simple things, like promoting what we call family values, traditions. get back to some traditions. it does not mean we cannot be diverse. we have to include everybody. simple family values. host: why do you think that is an important trade for democrats to focus on? caller: because that gives a strong foundation.
11:43 am
the democrats need a strong foundation to build on. the association is one of the strongest thing we can do. host: ok, let's hear from brian, in michigan, independent line. go ahead. caller: yeah, thanks pedro. yeah, sorry, john james. maybe next time around. you know, in our country right now, there are so many falsehoods and misrepresentations and things, we have to look at the core structure of the media. i have been saying this for years, but obviously i am just a citizen. if you look at c-span and you bent towardsare the liberal or democratic way, then you look at the announcers and find out their background and do a little bit of research, you realize a lot of them do not even have a degree in journalism
11:44 am
and a lot of them work for the democratic party. when i look at your network -- it is fine. i have been watching you since i got out of the service in the 1970's. host: so as far as yesterday specifically -- i need to make my point. steve scully works for joe biden and ted kennedy. now, that does not disqualify you from doing your job, his job in working with you. but that should be disclosed. ,ost: the hosts of c-span as varied and diverse as we are, we present information and don't do it with bias. i know we come from different kinds of backgrounds. people can analyze that and find that out, to be frank, but we present the information in a straightforward manner. let's go to cassidy in jackson, missouri. republican line. hello. caller: hi, how are you? host: fine, thank you. go ahead. caller: first of all, a man came
11:45 am
on earlier who is name was john, he was a veteran and said a lot of things i agree with. i wanted to say thank you to him directly, because he was exactly right with what he said. those veterans out there they fight for our country. it doesn't matter what our parties are individually. they fight for this whole entire country, ok? the party lines works me a little, but i want to say a big thank you to president trump, and a lot of people are probably groaning at their tv screens right now, but i am thankful that someone is actually putting us first, because i feel like first so long it has been all about helping other people. don't get me wrong, i am one of the nicest people you will ever meet, but it is time someone puts us first. that we can help other people once we are as strong as we need to be, and we can go out and help other people. but we have a lot of homeless people and people in need here
11:46 am
in our own country, before we need to be letting a whole lot of other people in our country illegally and open arms to everyone like that. host: how do you think those issues will be affected in a when democrats take control of the house of representatives? will probablyk it not go the way i hope it would go, because i do believe republicans are a little bit more firm and not quite so giving and open. iey do look at us first, and believe the democrats are more give you what you think you need. the reason i am a republican is because i know i am a very smart person and i know i can handle my finances and my life the way it needs to be handled. i can do it on my own. and democrats, as far as i'm concerned, they want the handouts. they do not know they are strong enough to handle their own affairs. they want other people to do it for them. host: that is cassidy in jackson, missouri calling in. in case you're wondering, the box next to me over there is from the white house.
11:47 am
that is where the event where president trump was expected to speak, around 11:30 this morning, has not started yet. it goes reporters are still doing their standups i do not know if it will start anytime soon. we will take you live to that event when it starts. it was expected around noon, that will probably change, the house minority leader nancy pelosi is expected to make comments and statements from yesterday. we will bring you that too when it happens. your phone calls and tweets, looking at yesterday's election. (202) 748-8000 for democrats. republicans.1 for independents, (202) 748-8002. you can also respond on facebook. up next is janet. hello. aller: hi, you are doing marvelous job. that call made me laugh, that democrats cannot take care of themselves.
11:48 am
took over half of congress, and maybe we will have some stability for a change. it is such a shame that we cannot have our children watch the president when he talks with all the terrible things he says. that is about all i have to say. host: what would you like the democrats to focus on? what do you think should be the main focus? number one,th care, definitely, and maybe a tax cut for the middle class that we never did get. i have never seen anything. host: do you think something like that is even on the table when it comes to the democrats working with the president? caller: yes i do. yes i do. i do believe so, yes. host: ok. louisiana, kimberly, port allen, independent line. yes.r: i would like to say, as far as the country is concerned, that i really have no respect. we are so busy [inaudible]
11:49 am
things asoken so many if we do not like this country. all i hear on the media is a lot of negativity. this country used to be a place where people came together and help each other. -- the people that live here don't realize that we are not the same anymore in this country, and yes, we have republican, we have democrats, and the whole point is, if we came together and we did try to work together, it would be better than always talking about i'm a democrat, i'm a republican, and not realizing that we are tearing each other down because the media always speaks against the president. ,or, when you had a president you spoke of good things, regardless of who voted for them. host: so when it comes to the
11:50 am
idea of working together, what things could be agreed upon that the president and democrats should work with together on? caller: well, there are several things. as far as the system and all those who have been in it along control in ways that -- you know, if a person has been in there that long, they are not looking at those who are voting who should have more choices. more rights than they do, and that is my problem, because too many people speak for people, but you do not hear what people really feel. host: let's go to france is pennsylvania, republican line. caller: thank you for taking my call. i am glad that the republicans won the senate. i am disappointed that the
11:51 am
democrats won the house, because mr. --t two years, president trump had nothing but hassle with the democrats. allhe way they are talking, they are going to do is harass him. they do not care about the people. they only care about trying to get him out of office. it does not make sense. host: so you don't think as far as the rest of the president's agenda is concerned, that has been effectively stopped as of next year? caller: i think they are going to stand in his way. instead of finding a solution, they have a personal grudge against him and they don't care what they do, but to stop them. from brooklyn, new york, democrat line. a net, you are on. go ahead. yes, good morning. i am just here watching, and my we haveis the fighting among democrats, republicans -- if we should take the example of
11:52 am
the creation -- god gave us a right hand, a left hands, and we need each of them to work together for the good of the whole body. if we could adopt that principle instead of just fighting among ourselves, then we would get things, because we all have varying opinions and it could all benefit one another, because a specialist would deal with the brain. he may not have a good example for the feet, but that the diets deal with be able to the foot. we need each and every one of us. if we could just look at each other as human beings instead of a vote, then maybe we could do things differently and, you know, better this country. host: alaska, caleb, independent line. caller: hello, thank you for
11:53 am
taking my call. can you hear me? host: yeah, you are on. caller: i am not very familiar with many of the candidates are policies, but i wanted to bring up something that happened yesterday. results aed the poll day before the polls closed. now, i am not sure if you talk about this or -- what yount to know think the implications of such a mistake our? do you think of the implications such a mistake our? caller: well, i think there are a few things that have to be set about it. host: such as? caller: one, it is a major mistake because it could have swayed the polls in a different way. if you notice, they had gilliam
11:54 am
-- was that his name? the democrat? host: guillen out of florida? yeah, they had him beating the other guy. then it ended up the other way. sometimes that depends on districts and when results get in from various districts across the state. florida is a big state, so you might have seen it at a point where initially he was ahead, and that changes as more information comes in. caller: that could be true, yes. i am just saying -- mistakes like that can't happen. host: ok, that's caleb in alaska. aboutre telling us that two minutes from now, the president will address the reporters. again, we will bring that to you. to show you some headlines, this is the houston chronicle, from the senate race that took place. the houston chronicle's headline features a picture of senator
11:55 am
ted cruz hugging his wife, heidi. he was reelected as dems seize house. and if you go to the el paso times, the focus is on beto o'rourke. beto draws spotlight. that is what they take as far as the results from yesterday. you can find the stories that accompany this on their website. again, the president is just about to speak in a short amount of time from now. squeeze in one more call -- kansas city, missouri, democrat line. terri, go right ahead. door-to-door for claire mccaskill, and i was out knocking doors yesterday, so i am crushed and disappointed that we lost. i wanted to say something about you know, he, and just hasn't followed the traditions of the presidency. and the dignity of that office
11:56 am
has just been destroyed by him. it will be so hard to put that together in the future. all of the speaking he did in helsinki against the intelligence community, calling the press the enemy of the people, the name-calling, like "pocahontas," the threats to have people investigated for leaks, the coarse language in his speeches, and some of his tweets are so childish. though i am really disappointed in him, so i hope that having the democrats in control put a morer on some of the outrageous ideas that he comes up with. people have been calling in during the course of the morning, that is terri from missouri, talking about claire mccaskill's race. we have been telling you about losing against josh hawley. by the way, speeches last night that we couldn't show you from people who won and lost. if you want to go to our website .org, you can find
11:57 am
those speeches there. and as we go forward and the new congress takes place, we are hearing from people and where their various positions are on certain issues. you can go to the debates in these key races we are tracking, well over 100 of these races and debates are stored there. if you are still interested in finding out positioning, you can c-span.org,bsite at where all that information is archived as part of our 2018 coverage from election night or leading up to election day and election night. the president is just about to speak here at the white house. we will go to the white house for the president of the united states. president trump: thank you, thank you very much. please, thank you.
